These guys have been such a good influence in my life. It's downright sad they have no idea just how much their music helped me get through some really tough shit. Pete's voice has been painted over many memories and made them a lot more bearable...

Yup
I met Pete and Sam in the early 2000s, in their prime. They were the nicest guys. Now, 30 years later I'm still a big fan and I've seen them more times than I can count.
Dean used to play drums in my buddies band Liftpoint. My brother always tells the story about how he played Legos with Dean in my buddies apartment "Did I ever tell you..." LOL. I never met Dean, but my buddy Kevin (bass player for Liftpoint at the time) is a phenomenal artist. Having never met Dean myself, but now hearing how artistic he is... I can see why he and Kevin got along so well.
Their music just gets better & better.
Oh man this band is really underrated, Wonder what’s next, This type of thinking, Vena sera and Sci-fi crimes are very great albums. 🤟

I think "Wonder What's Next" and "This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In" are by far their best albums, but I guess that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Joe. Though it does make one wonder if the change in style was a coincidence.
i think my favorite is hats off to the bull because when it came out i was in elementary and my dad would blast it on repeat in the car on any road trip, so it holds some sentimental value to me :)

I understand, the "issues"...and I adore and OWN all the cds since Joe left, BUT...I LOVED JOE, I admit I had/have a glorious hardcore crush on him. I still love Chevelle, and I understand they have serious issues between them. But I will never NOT love Joe and his presence on stage or the videos AND his fantastic bombastic bass playing. Sexiest bassist EVER...js. (Still love you Pete and Sam and always will). Everyone has to do what they have to do and I wish it never happened...but we ROCK ON.
There's a lot of speculation out there and Pete and Sam have said a lot of different things over the years, but we'll never truly know the sole reason(s) Joe was fired. I don't think it's really our business to know either.
Shortly after Joe left he posted on Chevelle's message boards back in 2005 saying:
"First off, very typical. This is exactly what I expected from them. Try and make it look like I didn't want to be in the band. I was fired plain and simple; in fact there wasn't even a discussion about it they just dropped it on me. I told them I would never quit and they would have to fire me. They were trying to get me to quit and told my managers that I did. I called sam and said "why are you doing this?" and he said we don't want you to come back. I said I will not quit. The next day pete called for the first time and said "did (our managers) call you and tell you your out?" I said "no, were they supposed to?" he eventually said in that short conversation "your fired". I am insulted by the message on the front page of the site,(by the way, thats the first change to the site I've seen in at least a year!) it is completely false and out of line. I made no decision and am not taking a break. I will be working on getting a new job immediately. A break also means there's a chance to come back, and nothing could be farther from reality. I was fired and they have not said a word to me since. I would never ask to be back in (why would I want to after this?) and I never did in the past when I quit. "We'll miss having him on the road with us"... Right."
I actually really liked his style, especially on the track Peer. Apparently he and a few other ex-band members (from P.O.D. and Papa Roach) formed a band called Daylight Division in 2009, which ended in 2011 since they couldn't find a permanent lead vocalist.
Regardless of what happened, Chevelle makes damn good music, and I can tell they don't like being asked about Joe repeatedly over the years. I think fifteen years is long enough, so how about we just drop it and enjoy the music?
Wow, I'd never heard of Daylight Division before, interesting. I've always liked Joe and I can't help but feel kinda sorry for the guy. From what it seems like, he had some bipolar issues and always felt like the odd man out. But I totally agree with you, it's obvious that they don't want to talk about it, nothing else really needs to be said. It happens.
i feel like a lot of vena sera songs are about some kind of egoistic person. humanoid is the best example; "for the forth and unknown/hate the work, but loved the scene".

Lol the difference of 2 albums. This type of thinking and Vena Sera, was because of a new collaborative bass player, Deans great, sound was great on Vena Sera. Every album since 2007 just gets better and better, heavier too.
ttot was alright, but yeah vena sera is a lot better and one of their best albums
Vena Sera was gold, Hats of to the Bulls is still my fave though, more melodic than last 2 albums.

RichardMetalFan he didn't really have a choice. He was seriously just a kid, like 15 or something, when he got pulled into the band. He was just being a normal teenager but had to go through his shit on stage in front of a crowd.

Regardless of how well they still do or don't get on with Joe, suggesting that the long term fans are erroneous or ignorant when they say they miss him, his element, is pretty damn harsh. Any time you listen to those early albums you can immediately hear Joe's punishing, aggressive, percussive bass playing, and they don't seem to even want to acknowledge what he contributed, because they are too hung up on what he didn't contribute. Some 15 odd years later!
Agreed, total drama, but I love Pete and Sam, and i STILL AND ALWAYS WILL LOVE AND ADORE JOE and his presence in the videos and on stage and I miss seeing him and hearing his awesome riffing on the albums A LOT. Best hardcore (and personally) sexiest bassist ever...and it shines in those early albums "This Kind Of Thinking" still being my favorite. js. I do love a rocker who never wears a shirt..lmao
@Jake Smith I agree, their feelings and dislike of each other is their own and none of my concern, BUT that Isn't what the OP said, and not the point. Their continuous bitching and dismissive attitudes towards his presence on their albums and most importantly, their dismissive attitude towards the fans who appreciate and love Joe is the part that is uncalled for, and would get me to chastise Pete and Sam to their faces, NOT whether they like him or not or their feelings, but don't be bitchy towards the fans who DO appreciate Joe's work and stop trying to undermine it.
But this is the point, if you had an bassist, that is not writing his own parts, you will expect from him, to play it at least good. But Pete and Sam were song writers, he was only recording what they already did lol. That element is still there.
Also, apparently, Joe still likes to talk shit about them to this day. They mentioned it in another video somewhere. Family is family, that doesn't always include blood.

Chevelle fell off the map once their album production value dropped when they wanted "The album to sound like the live band".
Ive never liked the live vocals, and the overly produced album vocals really made chevelle a top alternative artist.
"Hats off to the bull" and everything after that is unlistenable. I can get friends into old chevelle. If i play anything new, someone is going to press skip.

My martial arts teacher, who listens to almost exclusively 80s metal heard joyride (omen) once and instantly said "I like this band, who are they?"
I loved Hats off to the bulls but have a hard time listening to the latest 2 albums because there's no catchy melodies at all. It's all straight groove rock.
But Face To the Floor is one of their best songs.

Hats Off is great, but yeah I couldn't care less for la gargola honestly. I thought there were a few catchy songs on north corridor though
