In these situations there's only one thing to remember: if they are old enough to own a youtube channel and roam on internet, then they understand the concept of stealing and know it's bad, that it could hurt the victim. They are doing that fully conscious that they cause trouble and hurt someone, the fact they are younger than you doesn't mean they deserve pity. I'm tired of that whole "oh but they're a kid...". I don't care. They will never learn from their mistakes if they are never punished, they will only think that they will always be protected. As someone who saw her works stolen or partially copied by various kind of persons, from brats to scammers, I will never make a special treatment for one. If you can't act properly online, you don't belong online.

This is generally how I feel about it. If you're gonna take things and claim it as your own, you cannot expect that there won't be repercussions. Which is what most of these people think. Stealing is fine, apparently. And yes, your age has nothing to do with your actions. We learn from a very young age stealing is not only 'bad' but a crime. I don't want to make people's lives miserable, but it's so annoying, because they make everyone else's lives miserable XD

As an artist something similar happened to me
So I had some drawings that I trusted a friend to keep them safe
So basically the drawings were with her but not her property
And one day I took back the drawings (I didn't say anything about it to her since she was only reuqested to keep them safe in fact she pressured me into doing this)
And she confronted me on what was I thinking am I out of my mind, I was like I just took them back cause I obviously prefer to keep my own stuff with myself
Then she HAD THE AUDACITY to say that "But you gave me those drawings so you cannot take them back! That is considered theft! My mom could even arrest you!" (Yes her mom is working at the police)
      Bro.
      Those are MY drawings.
I never said that they are yours.
You literally pressured me to trust you with keeping them safe, not giving it you.
Yet she claimed them as some sort of gift from ME
Went home crying that day (this was in 5th grade okay?) and when my dad heard abt it he was damn furious

One thing i hope you talk about is clickbaiting. SSO united and minatozy are known for their blatantly ckick-baity thumbnail to grab the attention of a younger audience. Ever since the OG SSO youtubers like corinne, elizabeth, and some others left, these people have been increasing their clickbait content, due to being few of the still active SSO channels.

I really don't like being mean, but ugh, I could not agree more.. I subscribed to Minatozy cuz of Rattle, I wanted to support more SSO creators who talk about issues in SSO.... But dear lord I had to unsubscribe few days later cuz I just got so annoyed by the horrible clickbait. And even if the title was appropriate for the video, all she did was read everything already given in the news or blogs etc etc... Didn't even give personal input, just... Read...
I understand it might be good for those who are dyslexic or don't want to read and just want to listen in their earpods, but it doesn't excuse the blatant clickbait in other videos..

The thing with the obvious plagiarism is that it robs the plagiarist of their own unique voice, something they could develop and evolve and contribute. Hearing Castor's script reading versus the original sources makes it clear, Castor sounds like she's just reading from a script, where Rattle and Eleanor have the inflections and cadence that come from speaking their own words. A level of that is developing the skills to read a script well, but being able to be yourself means you can feel more comfortable instead of having to rehearse to the point of sounding natural.
Parroting bigger creators winds up just making you an echo of them, and undermines whatever creativity you possess. Study the masters for what techniques and tools they use to make their content effective, but bring your true self to what you make.

    • @YTRattle
      @YTRattle  Рік тому +2

This is such a brilliant point. You can only ever be a bad copy if you copy, you can't ever be more than that. A parrot with nothing else to say but what others have said already. I do voice overs for some people sometimes, and reading someone else's words is always a bit of a struggle, as your thoughts don't flow as easily. Because they were never your thoughts to begin with. I really wish Spelcastor had done her own work from the get-go, she had an interesting editing style (that clipping effect) and I think her voice is great. Sad she went the route of copying.

Ugh. It's disappointing about star stable adventures.
Plagiarizing is one of the worst things that seems to be happening in the star stable community. It's kind of disappointing, knowing someone is out there, possibly lurking and ready to take what is rightfully yours for their own will. I wish it would stop, I hope it does stop, but I don't think it will anytime soon.
Anyways, another thing that I've noticed is impersonating people. I've been down that road where someone has pretended to be me, for whatever reason. It was strange, and I didn't like it. I don't know if anyone else has ever been in that situation, but... I really hope this is discussed someday.

  • @Galoogie
    @Galoogie 11 місяців тому +4

Plagiarism will get you kicked out of any self respecting intellectual institution. If someone is old enough to post content online, they are old enough to know right and wrong. If people aren't going to be polite and get permission, you have no reason to be polite in asking them to take it down. While the community isn't mature enough to tackle serious issues, it does not mean people who are effected by them need to put up with it.
I was a former moderator for another horse game, and it's community became just as toxic as SSO's. I've noticed that online games that are targeted at children have a much more toxic community than the most violent games targeted at adults. While we could go into semantics and psychology, I believe the root cause is just that, simply put, the majority of the community is children.

    • @flyguysky812
      @flyguysky812 10 місяців тому

I was not impressed to hear the part Rattle played in the doxxing situation, however. Politeness is one thing, but breaching anyone's personal affairs is a level of intrusion that's both unwarranted and excessive. It's unnecessary, and frankly, a little creepy. I am sure she had her reasons to contact her respective thief's horseback program, though from the outside looking in, I fail to see how this was more effective than a callout and copyright strike.
Like most things that came out the accused and their defenders' mouths, I suppose that could easily be a rumor. I am more than content to rest knowing at least one of these people was stopped, but it does make me wonder.
We can only hope that lessons were learned, and creators will be empowered to reclaim what is theirs.

Most of them are copies and the majority of those who are affected are forced to say nothing because they don't have the money or means to face the corporate law firms and they would not win anyways. The original artist will remain in the shadows while the big dog of the industry gets all the credit and is made to look like a saint. Really sad to hear this - but this is a long-standing problem which arrived with the World Wide Web. I’ve read of numerous examples since the 1990s, but the worst was professional journalists stealing the work of PhD students who were blogging their research.
The annoying thing is that it’s so hard to do anything about it. You could put in a copyright claim on a YT vid - and given the community we’re discussing here, that might be enough - but it doesn’t do much.
I really love SSO and I’m planning my own fan site, but this has made me think. I’m particularly sad for Eleanor - the dynamic nature of the medium would make anything hard to prove and just spoils the whole conversation. At least a copyright claim is an option for Rattle.

There was a club that copied several things about my club. GRANTED: we took the SSO "Next Up In Jorvik" posts and turned it into our club's monthly roadmaps to tell our audience what our plans were for the month, but I hope that came across as inspiration rather than stealing/plagiarizing/copying. Anyways, that club copied that. Then we made a post about the Members Right's movement, and they word for word copied our caption. Finally, they nearly copied our Discord club advertisement. They have since apologized for doing all of that, and we're on better terms now, but it was certainly noticed at the time. There was this other club that 1:1 copied our "About Us" type information for our club. I can't remember if I stumbled upon it or if it was someone who brought it up to me, but either way it was definitely noticed. Club copying is sad, but I think part of the problem is that there is not much widespread EDUCATION about owning clubs that gives people the tools or empowerment to work through the challenges and mechanics of club owning. That's part of what my channel is about, to give new club owners the help I wish I had when starting out on my own. Great video Rattle and Eleanor, great insights on the WHY of plagiarism!

Professional musicians and other professional creators have been taken to court for plagiarism before. Getting told bluntly to stop stealing on the internet and losing viewers because you stole is barely a slap on the wrist compared to what would happen literally anywhere else. Obviously nobody deserves harassment, but even getting told Bluntly to stop stealing by the person you stole from isn't harassment. If you don't want your feelings hurt, then don't steal. It's that easy. The "they're just kids" thing really only holds water at all if it's a case of *accidental* heavy inspiration; lifting whole scripts verbatim Repeatedly is *not* accidental.

I can definitely see why not everyone does agree with the sentiment of course, but it's just kinda frustrating sometimes since it's one of those cases where personally I feel like just letting it go unchecked ultimately does more harm than good in the long run, since it's a lot better to get that slap on the wrist so they can stop Before they get the idea that they can get away with it, and potentially try it somewhere more risky. xP Not everyone thinks about it that way though, and it's def easier to just avoid the discomfort (and potential backlash) that definitely comes with a confrontation, so I can still see why some people don't want to fight it very hard.

It's like they were answering you but without ever assuming it or saying it while pretending that their subject is original and that they are just responding to "haters" in general. Sometimes I admit that I wonder if I am legitimate, after all, it is possible that other people have the same ideas or the same opinion at the same time... Case in point, this video. It is not a creator that leaves you feeling like she just wants to hate or punch down. It's all about the tone. This video is the right way to do it.

Granted and for full discloser, Im a writer in a completely different community but still ^^;; I hope it's ok to share my experience with plagiarism.
They'd taken one of my stories and its characters/ideas for an erotic roleplay of all things, and they were pretty public with this rp and its "inspirations". When I privately expressed discomfort at something I worked on and cherished being used like that, I was essentially told "you dont own the story, if you didnt want it copied, you shouldn't have shared it"
    It unfortunately has gotten to me, and it's an issue that keeps coming back with the same people even to this day. Sadly in the end, I just dont feel comfortable talking about stories much anymore.^^;;

I have a personal story that may or may not be plagiarism and I have mixed feelings on it, but I kept quiet, because I ultimately got what I wanted?
I joined a patreon for a fairly popular UA-camr years ago (+1million subs) and sent them a video idea/request relating the game they talk about to a rare disease that effects my family member.
I went into a ton of detail, giving them tons of potential avenues of research and ideas...
And apparently I did such a damn good job it became the blatant outline for their script.
Like, I'm glad I covered things well enough to not merit corrections, and I didn't do that good of a job because it only hit 150k views.
And I got a shoutout for the video idea, but I did way more than just provide the idea, and wasn't told they were running with what I just sent as an informative message.
But still, that's, like, 150k eyes on a disease rarer than being struck by lightning, and whose prognosis is determined largely by the speed of diagnosis. I kinda feel like there's no point in rocking the boat.
But it doesn't feel nice, even when I literally might have helped save someone's life with this.
And a big part of it is that it means that your own words get taken out of your control- I would have added some things if they had told me, if they had worked with me on this.
Folks should try getting denied credit for their work and see how it feels.

Politeness is not what it used to be anyway.
I mean, you're called a bully simply because you try to explain your view on a topic (happened to me again just a few hours ago btw, lol). People honestly think that 'being nice' is simply NOT adressing the issue. It simply does not matter HOW you adress it, you'll always be the negative party simply because you mentioned it.
That in and of itself should be something games (and our society) should fight against and eradicate, but game staff usually doesn't bother. SSO least of all. They can hardly get their collective sh!ts together and deliver decent game content, so i honestly don't expect them to even care about this.
The sad thing is, that plagiarism is likely simply boiling down to laziness and/or wanting instant gratification. Especially among people involved with UA-cam and Twitch; they think it's easy to become the next Markiplier and take the easy route they think will work fastest. All while not thinking about the consequences. Maybe even due to the fact people nowadays are delusional and spoiled to the degree of thinking nobody would ever know.
In a way, I find people who silently delete and ignore you after being called out MUCH nicer than people who pretend they didn't know or are sorry (because they definitely are not, they are only sorry for getting caught, if at all).

I do not agree with copying content, as any sane person wouldn't - BUT when that is said, I do think it is highly valid to consider the fact that these are tiny channels and, based on what I can see and hear, run by kids. I think attempting contact is great, and the person you mentioned having copied you also privated all their stuff when you commented on it - isn't that enough? I think there are way more productive ways to bring this issue into light, instead of mentioning such specific situations - accounts named and everything. They ignored my initial comment, pretended nothing happened, pretended to not know Amelia when they had CLEARLY stolen her work. It's now come out that they also stole from kitti spiderweb.
You could say they unlisted or privated the video and that should be fine, which it would have been if they didn't continue to pretend nothing had happened and unlisted and listed videos back and forth. It cast doubt for me that they were willing to change to actually move on from copying content. Which is one of the reasons I pushed forward.
Another point people often bring is I should have reachied out through DMs. I don't agree with this. And I'll try and explain why. By keeping it in the shadows, we give them exactly what they want: secrecy. Which is the driving factor for stealing content. Stealing content is reliant on the ability to keep it quiet, and to ensure no one finds out. By moving it into private DMs one of two things will happen: 1) they will ignore you or 2) they will profusely appologise and promise to never do it again to you.
And then turn around and do it to someone else. Which is exactly what she did.
If it's any consolation it turns out she's around 18, so not a minor. I stand by the idea that if you steal work, ignore the people you stole work from, and continue to steal work, then really that should be called out. As it does tremendous damage to creators.
However, I do appreciate where you guys are coming from. It can be seen as using a larger platform to punch down. But the argument becomes moot when your work is being stolen. Your size of your channel matters little if you clearly, painfully, obviously, stole work. Your ability for rational decision making does not grow or diminish with the subscriber count. And I hope that this video gives one person, even two, the courage to step up and talk about plagiarism openly. Because really, the hurt this creates and how it sucks you dry from creativity and motivation is painful, to say the least. And it's unfair that the larger creators who are being plagiarised must forever have their mouths clamped shut in order to protect smaller ones.
I do hope clarifies it a bit more, but if anything else is amiss, please let me know! ♥

@@YTRattle I appreciate you taking your time to answer to my comment, and while I don’t necessarily agree with everything you’re listing above - I never doubted that you made this video with your own best intentions.
I do have to comment on your disagreement with reaching out privately - while I hear you on the “secrecy”, I do think any problems ever occurring should ALWAYS be handled privately first and foremost. It is simply the most civil thing to do, as well as the correct way to handle confrontation if you want to speak from a law-perspective as well. If you then get “ignored” like you said, you can consider going forward from there.
I am happy to hear the person in question turns out to not be a minor, but it doesn’t sound like this was known before recently? I also see a lot of people commenting on the fact that they want minors to be held equally accountable regardless of their age. I think this is a highly problematic way of thinking, and there are reasons why almost all countries across the world has set laws in place to make sure that minors in fact are NOT held accountable as adults.
I of course do not think you as a bigger creator should stay quiet, I think speaking up is important - I just think this was a risky way of doing it, especially if you were unsure on the ages of the people who’s accounts you are sharing publicly. There are many other ways to bring light to this topic, but as said: I acknowledge that you believe this was the optimal one.

@@LilBibs I won't lie, it was a difficult situation, but your comment brought attention to the fact that I should address this more clearly in the next video.
The RP community has a serious problem with 'appologising and doing it again in any case'. These people are often polite, kind, and quietly ask for them to stop, and they never do. I saw in spelcastor a pattern. I will say, I was under the impression from the get-go she was about 19. If she was a minor I'm unsre of what I would have done. It depends on how she reacted, again.
However, I don't want to argue. ♥I do handle things a bit more 'bull by the horns' XD, as I hope people will do with me. Faffa, for example, did not approach me in secret, she openly called me out in my video. I accepted it, gave her full credit and apologized. And I learned a lesson. This has happened often. Where I've left crucial info in my videos and I get raked over the coals for it. I try and be as proactive and understanding as possible.
I think the issue is perhaps how I perceive it. Just take responsibility. I can be very straightforward and to me, writing that comment should have been enough. Heck, the second comment thread would have given her enough of a chance to come clean. She blatantly pretended she hadn't done anything wrong, completely ignoring the fact she stole my video. If she had, at least acknowledged the situation, as I had done with Faffa, it would have been a lot better.
But really, this whole thing would have been avoided if she hadn't been stealing in the first place. Which is the crux of it, and why age is not really a factor for me. I perceive stealing as stealing. But again, I can be a bit harsh.
I sincerely appologise if I missed some of your points, I spot-read your last comment. I'll come back in a few days and check if I missed anything. I'm technically on a break XD But thanks for being reasonable and friendly, despite not agreeing! I always appreciate people who bring me different perspectives.♥

@@YTRattle I do think most of my points in my 2nd comments can be used to answer this again - so I’m not going to repeat myself a ton more.
I hear you, and of course - discussions are only interesting when both parts can handle it in a mature manner, otherwise it just becomes a mud-fight and that’s never fun.
Only thing I will repeat again, is that - yes, theft is theft - but there’s a reason why a minor doesn’t get the same punishment for theft as someone of legal age. Age should matter to you, I think that’s something I want to stay very firm on - you cannot hold minors accountable as adults (yes I know it turns out this person was legal, I’m just saying this as a response to your comment on age not being a big factor in theft and that you weren’t entirely confident of their age when making this video).

Personally im a little disappointed in your stance on this topic as there are many flaws and misconceptions in your argument. Firstly regarding spelcaster you shouldn't of called out the person showing their channel and name in this video. That gives off signals that you *want* people to go to their page and send hate even if you don't mean for it, every creator knows this, if you didn't want that you could have blurred their user like you did for the commentor but you didn't showing you want this person to get hate sent their way. Secondly from the looks of things this person is clearly a underage minor, kids are going to copy and mimic things they like its what they do. I could understand if she had truly copied you word from word but from watching she rephrased what you had said into her own words. Yes they are similar but not the same, its clear she took inspiration from your video and others and mashed it into her own video i see no malice in that. I feel quite sad because this person clearly looked up to you and for that they've now been unrightfully bashed and shamed for it. This person is young and doesn't need unrightful hate sent her way. Please remember your words have a more impact due to your channel size and people are going to go after this person now.
    I'm seriously disappointed.

She is eighteen years old. She confirmed this in her own discord.
If she looked up to me, she would have said so when I first called her out instead of pirvating the video and pretending nothing happened.
If the material was not stolen she would have credited me.
She tried to slander my name by claiming I copied her. If she was a fan and 'looked up to me' that would not have been the response.
I specifically told people to no go after anyone in this video. As Moon and I made it clear with my Ambassador video.
You forget, I am not the only one she copied. She copied Amelia Dreambell, kitti spiderweb, and we have reasons to believe other people have also been copied.
And yes, it was basically identical. If you can't see that then I can't help you. I don't make excuses for people who blatantly steal work and pawn it off as their own.
Don't steal other people's work. End of story.

Did she not praise you for commenting on her video before you took your negative stance on her? She clearly knew you and looked up to you.
When you confronted her about it she privated the videos? why are you mad at her for taking the videos down if that's what you wanted. She took accountability by removing those videos i don't see the problem here if she did as you asked.
It doesn't matter if you tell your audience to not go after someone in the video if you don't sensor the name.
