I saw in a news channel that currently half of palm trees in TN are cut in last 10 years for roadways, infrastructure, and various other reasons. Please plant as much palm trees as possible. It keeps ground water level good and also has lot of benefits from its branches, leaves, fruits, even it's stem.

Until a few decades ago, “Karupetti kaapi” was the only “coffee” that was in common use, in Kerala. In its best form (usually when made at home), it had a golden-brown shade, was as soft as butter, and just melted in your mouth. The rich, unique, mellow flavour and fragrance of the toddy palm jaggery is unforgettable. Sadly, it is impossible to find this grade in the market these days. And very few prepare this in their homes anymore. Not many are fortunate enough to hold sufficient land with palms of their own. Hard work and patience are also “out-of-fashion”. Industrialisation of the cooking process may be part of the answer. But, once again, how many would want to make a career of flirting with deadly danger, thrice daily, 365 days a year … leave alone the lowly status in “Society”.

This is one of the best alternative for white sugar which is unhealthy whereas this is very healthy and has nutritional value.....if both state and Central govt's had developed these things instead of siding with the alcohol mafia we could have not only manufactured palm sugar but our palm oil imports could too have been drastically reduced too 🤦 Hope atl ast now they do something about this and revive our traditional way of life....as palm trees are even seen in Tamil Nadu sate emblem 👍🏼

Biggest issue with cottage industries is hygiene and standards. Though cottage industries focus on nutritious, less processed foods, due to poor hygiene standards, they couldn't be marketed like a Swiss cheese or a Italian olive oil.
The vicious circle of poverty which directly influences the lifestyle, choices and individual standards. Unlike mass produced factory, where "Customer" is the King, in cottage industry, this dynamics is yet to find dominance. This is one of the reason why, cottage industry fail to adopt hygienic practises in production. Here the producer is the King, and the entire process is influence by the producer's choice, quality of life and personal standards and choices.
This is not a mere, take it or leave it issue. It concerns public health. Though the product itself maybe health friendly, the process of production defeats the friendliness.

Let me tell you, currently i have added half kg of jaggery powder in my Amazon cart and it is costing me 399 rs. Amazon add it own price as well. Don't know if these hardworking people get their fair share or not😢
