I was once talking to some friends of mine, one of them was a big Kirby fan and he told me that if Meta Knight had been in the first Smash games he would have chosen Daran Norris as the voice of Meta Knight. At first I thought it didn't make sense since Nintendo doesn't usually contact VAs who participate in Cartoons. But now seeing one of their Cowboy Bepop characters AND that Nintendo sometimes contacted those same actors, well it would have been a possibility to hear Mr. Turner as Meta Knight Lol.
Back with another banger what if scenario I really love these! It would’ve been wild to see Star Fox have more characters than Zelda, Pokémon and Kirby but I actually got to mess around with Slippy and Peppy in 64 Remix, both are very fun and well made clones!
While I love this (and I _really_ do love this), I can't suspend my disbelief enough to think that late-90s Square or Sega would even consider adding their biggest stars of the time to a Nintendo-exclusive fighting game. I still think it's miraculous that Cloud got into Smash 4, even all these years later. Those two companies were just way too antagonistic towards Nintendo at the time and Sakurai didn’t have the incredible reputation he has now. And if Nintendo had the time to really flesh out this roster, it's been recently confirmed that they would've gone with Clefairy instead of Jigglypuff. Everything else (even the other third-party characters) are spot-on though. This is a fun thought experiment, good stuff.
Thank you! And I appreciate your comments and clarifying statements. You are correct on all of this. The goal of this video was to mostly showcase Smash Remix and the fun additional content that's been added to Smash 64.
Pretty cool 'what if' idea. I like to imagine my own smash 64 reimagine and some characters i include, and some characters i exclude. My roster: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Luigi, Ness, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Peach, Bowser, Zelda, Falco, Marth, Ganondorf, Mewtwo, Wario, Snake, Charizard, Sonic, Dedede, Megaman, K Rool, Ryu, Knuckles, Cloud, Shadow, Impa, Ridley, Zero, Simon, Slippy, Peppy, Wolf. The character i cut out: Sheik, Young Link, Dr Mario, Conkers, Lucas, thats all i can think of.

I have a few characters that could also be in the 2001 release version of Smash 64 Rayman from Rayman: His appearance would be based on how he appears in Rayman 2 Abe from Oddworld: His appearance would be based on how he appears in the PS1 Oddworld games. Those being Abe's Odysee and Abe's Exodus Lara Croft from Tomb Raider: Her appearance would be based on how she appears in the first four Tomb Raider games, which were all released on the PS1 Sub Zero/Kuai Liang from Mortal Kombat: His appearance would be based on how he appears in Mortal Kombat 2 I have a lot more character choices, but I think this comment is long enough
@@davidvkimball fair point! Makes me think standalone title versus a franchise. If you don't plan on making more games, you make sure it's the best it can be as possible, make it count as it were. But franchises have room to grow and expand on ideas, so you wouldn't want to make it so good you wouldn't have a reason to play another one. Especially as a business wanting to profit off of the continuing IP.
Had the same idea for a SNES Smash, too. I can see it being released around '95, with the roster consisting of the main eight, barring Pikachu since they haven't existed yet. Replacing Pikachu could be the F-Type from Stunt Race FX, and Jigglypuff's replacement could either be Diddy Kong, Wario, or Peach.
I love Smash 64 Remix, and all the work the team has done on it. However, I think the inclusion of levels that wouldn't exist in the N64 era (Mementos, Delfino Plaza, etc.) sometimes takes me out of the experience they were initially going for.
I remember how in that timeline the game was delayed for an extra two years to be worked on some more and it was frustrating at first but it was worth plus it was a great send off for the n64.
This would be ambitious for a N64 Cartridge, I'd assume that they'd use a 64 MB cart that Conker and the N64 port of RE2 used. Or maybe this is a timeline where the N64DD released worldwide and had some success and this uses a DD with more storage. Also Clefairy could've been a Semi Clone of Jigs since Clefairy was considered in their place, though I understand as no one has modded clefairy into the game, hope that someone mods clefairy along with bomberman, roy, and solid snake into 64 soon.
also here is another interesting timeline, this turned out to be a false rumor since dragon king the fighting game wasn't planned for the snes using the super fx chip but what if smash debuted on the Snes (or Snes CD if we really want a blessed timeline) in say 95-96 instead of the 64, I can imagine the roster would be Mario Luigi Donkey Kong Yoshi Wario Link Samus Kirby Fox Captain Falcon Ness (to promote Earthbound) Marth Megaman Simon Belmont Bomberman Pacman A FF4 or FF6 rep Ryu Hayabusa Erdrick (and if Enix was being stingy, Slime, though this was early into dragon quest so who knows)
Just want correct something you got wrong (hope that doesn’t come across mean) Street Fighter’s first outing on a Nintendo console was in fact SNES, the statement about the series being on NES is false and the box art at the top right at 2:03 is for a bootleg/ROM hack (Unless the series appearing on NES was also part of this timeline, in which case… my bad.) Still a great watch nonetheless.
@@davidvkimball here’s a funny idea for a video. “What if wario was in melee, but with a catch”; detailing Wario going from a Mario clone in melee to a semi clone in ultimate lol
Would Conker actually be able to get into a kids game though? I know he first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing, but that was before Bad Fur Day came out and kids might get curious about where this character came from, even if his smash appearance was clean.
No Diddy Kong in the Remix Roster is kind of odd to me. like they'll have fully original character movesets like Conker and Knuckles but not Diddy, who was around in this era and also has a fully fleshed out moveset in later smash games.
Love this video. I was surprised that someone made the belmonts playable, I'll check it out. Also, there's someone missing... Spiderman lol. I see all the modded characters here in this video except for him. But in all honesty, I doubt Nintendo would convince Marvel to borrow Spider-Man. Overall good video 👍
@@davidvkimball Agreed, the more future characters feel way too out of place for me, some make sense, otherwise, i just don't see most of the choices. anyway, that small rant aside, i'm curious how Melee, Brawl, Smash 4 and Ultimate will be affected by this "super blessed timeline" as some people called it it in the comments? i'm quite curious about Melee the most
Interesting concept but realistically there is no way we would have had this many characters or even guest characters, it's very likely that characters that were considered like Bowser, Dedede, Mewtwo and Marth would have been part of the roster and I think Falco and Wario would have had a pretty fair shot too
a fun concept, though I do think some things could be changed instead, such as the number of characters some of the characters that are new I could instead see being put into Melee instead, such as Peach, Young Link, Zelda, Slippy and Peppy, Ken, Knuckles, and one of the two Belmonts, the N64 originating characters I'd say possibly only Banjo and Kazooie being ones to be in, but I could see Conker being added into Brawl thanks to Live and Reloaded. but one I could see added, and am actually surprised he's not on the list is Bomberman as for the stages, I would say no to the competitive stages (due to not knowing how popular the game would be competitively), I'd also possibly cut a lot of the choices for the stages, maybe only one and a half or two pages of stages instead of the 4 pages listed
Ok since smash melee would release in 2006, with a roster of 36 for this game then for Smash Melee we would probably get 14 more characters which would round up the roster up to 50 and so for those 14 new Fighter i think it be - Roy - Ice Climber - Mr. Game & Watch - Waluigi - Dr. Mario - Charizard - Pichu - Solid Snake - Krystal - Toon Link - Shadow The Hedgehog - Blaze The Cat - Lucas - Meta Knight
With each video this looks more like what if each Smash Bros was the size of the next one What if Smash 64 was like Melee What if Smash Melee was like Brawl What if Brawl was like Wiiu What if Smash Wiiu & Ultimate were combined you know what i mean.
Good point, but remember Sakurai was using Mario Kart 64 and Mario Party's Japanese releases as a reference for how Luigi sounded, which it's closer to than the US versions.
@@davidvkimball Yet they did dirty with the voice of Luigi ngl. If that were the case then Sakurai would contact Julien to retake Luigi. But two guesses of mine: Either he didn't know who the actor was or he just didn't want to do it. Since something similar happened with Peach in Melee. Until the early 2000s, Asako Kozuki was the voice of the character in Asia. Yet Jen Taylor did the voice for both regions.
You know how Sakurai actually wanted Geno to be a fighter and "thought it would be great if [he] could add him" during Brawl? Well, given Nintendo's relationship with SquareSoft pre-2002 in this timeline (as you explained in this video), and assuming that Geno isn't a fighter in Melee and that Sakurai still wants him to be a fighter, I assume that Geno would indeed be a fighter in Brawl. Also, I think that Geno has a stronger chance of being a fighter in SSB6, whether in the base game or as DLC, since he's been represented as a Mii Costume in two Smash games by this point and since Super Mario RPG just got a remake, though I know that his inclusion isn't guaranteed.
That's a really interesting point. For some reason I hadn't even thought of that. Mario RPG would be even more fresh in the memory of the team at the time.
@@INFERNO95From Sakurai himself: "I wanted Geno to be a playable character. He has a gun for a hand, and I think he fits in really well with Smash. During Brawl, I thought it would be great if I could add him, but in the end it didn’t become a reality."
@@davidvkimball No, but actually I just saw a trailer of it and I was amazed of that project, and I see that you also made a video of it. Thanks for replying
I feel like they would have shot themselves in the foot if they didn't switch development for the game to be on gamecube. Or have the game be both n64 and gamecube.
Glad you included Peach and Zelda even though you used Smash Remix a lot in the footage. Don't know why the Remix team haven't added them yet even though they have no reason to NOT be in it.
@@azurewarrior2000 well there are a lot of reasons not to do something. That's not really fair to say to the team. It takes effort to make custom animations and models and rigging.
@@davidvkimball I understand that, I do respect Remix for being an amazing hack in terms of being technical feat for the N64 and the team being able to pull it off, it's just the questionable absences of certain characters like them that make me raise an eyebrow personally.

But now seeing one of their Cowboy Bepop characters AND that Nintendo sometimes contacted those same actors, well it would have been a possibility to hear Mr. Turner as Meta Knight Lol.
I'm not familiar with those voice actors, I should look them up.

This could be a cool video idea
@@ItsTheRealPlush that would be interesting. I like the idea. It's a bit like RrelaxAlax's latest Ultimate roster cut down video. I recommend it.

Rayman from Rayman: His appearance would be based on how he appears in Rayman 2
Abe from Oddworld: His appearance would be based on how he appears in the PS1 Oddworld games. Those being Abe's Odysee and Abe's Exodus
Lara Croft from Tomb Raider: Her appearance would be based on how she appears in the first four Tomb Raider games, which were all released on the PS1
Sub Zero/Kuai Liang from Mortal Kombat: His appearance would be based on how he appears in Mortal Kombat 2
I have a lot more character choices, but I think this comment is long enough
I could see Rayman
And others (except probably Sub-Zero) in a PS1-based PlayStation All-Stars video.
Super Blessed timeline. I definitely wonder at times what Smash could've been if it started this big, and kept going from there.
@@MonteRicard SUPER blessed haha. At some point it's worth pondering... How much is too much? 😂
@@MonteRicard that's what I liked about Melee. It was made as if it was the definitive title and there'd be no sequels. Brawl was also made that way.
How much is never too much!
I'd actually call it the "Blessed 64" timeline, in case Kimball gives Brawl, SSB4 and Ultimate blessed timelines as well.
What if smash bros released on NES, SNES or Gameboy, colour/advanced?
Fun idea!
This video is like "What if Smash Remix existed".
But it does exist!
@@davidvkimball Inconcievable
I love Smash 64 Remix, and all the work the team has done on it. However, I think the inclusion of levels that wouldn't exist in the N64 era (Mementos, Delfino Plaza, etc.) sometimes takes me out of the experience they were initially going for.
@@raphletic2011 I feel similarly. But ultimately it's their choice what content they want to include and more options is generally better.
Bomberman and Megaman feel notably absent. I feel like Nintendo would've chosen them first before most of the other 3rd parties here
True!
I remember being a kid and always wanting them to put in All of the Star Fox team, i think i wanted that all the way up until sm4sh
@@SuperFIFIbros I know! Sakurai originally planned to have each one be an alt costume for Fox
I remember how in that timeline the game was delayed for an extra two years to be worked on some more and it was frustrating at first but it was worth plus it was a great send off for the n64.
Good times! 😂
This would be ambitious for a N64 Cartridge, I'd assume that they'd use a 64 MB cart that Conker and the N64 port of RE2 used. Or maybe this is a timeline where the N64DD released worldwide and had some success and this uses a DD with more storage. Also Clefairy could've been a Semi Clone of Jigs since Clefairy was considered in their place, though I understand as no one has modded clefairy into the game, hope that someone mods clefairy along with bomberman, roy, and solid snake into 64 soon.
also here is another interesting timeline, this turned out to be a false rumor since dragon king the fighting game wasn't planned for the snes using the super fx chip but what if smash debuted on the Snes (or Snes CD if we really want a blessed timeline) in say 95-96 instead of the 64, I can imagine the roster would be
Mario
Luigi
Donkey Kong
Yoshi
Wario
Link
Samus
Kirby
Fox
Captain Falcon
Ness (to promote Earthbound)
Marth
Megaman
Simon Belmont
Bomberman
Pacman

You get Smash Remix!
Exactly
Would Conker actually be able to get into a kids game though? I know he first appeared in Diddy Kong Racing, but that was before Bad Fur Day came out and kids might get curious about where this character came from, even if his smash appearance was clean.
True, same could be said for other more mature characters that would appear in later games, like Solid Snake, Bayonetta, etc.
No Diddy Kong in the Remix Roster is kind of odd to me. like they'll have fully original character movesets like Conker and Knuckles but not Diddy, who was around in this era and also has a fully fleshed out moveset in later smash games.
Decent argument!
Thanks! yeah I deliberately left out Spiderman. Sorry! 😅
It would be cool to see if melee would come in 2005, brawl in coming in 2009, 4 coming in 2016, and Ultimate in 2020.
Yeah that's a fun idea
Although i'm not a HUGE fan on the mod, this video fixed of what i had of it using more future characters who didn't exist till much later
Right that was the main change I wanted to make. It's fun to have Dark Samus and Lucas, but they definitely feel out of place. 😅
@@davidvkimball Agreed, the more future characters feel way too out of place for me, some make sense, otherwise, i just don't see most of the choices. anyway, that small rant aside, i'm curious how Melee, Brawl, Smash 4 and Ultimate will be affected by this "super blessed timeline" as some people called it it in the comments? i'm quite curious about Melee the most
Interesting concept but realistically there is no way we would have had this many characters or even guest characters, it's very likely that characters that were considered like Bowser, Dedede, Mewtwo and Marth would have been part of the roster and I think Falco and Wario would have had a pretty fair shot too
Agreed
a fun concept, though I do think some things could be changed instead, such as the number of characters
some of the characters that are new I could instead see being put into Melee instead, such as Peach, Young Link, Zelda, Slippy and Peppy, Ken, Knuckles, and one of the two Belmonts, the N64 originating characters I'd say possibly only Banjo and Kazooie being ones to be in, but I could see Conker being added into Brawl thanks to Live and Reloaded. but one I could see added, and am actually surprised he's not on the list is Bomberman
as for the stages, I would say no to the competitive stages (due to not knowing how popular the game would be competitively), I'd also possibly cut a lot of the choices for the stages, maybe only one and a half or two pages of stages instead of the 4 pages listed
@@shy1157 yeah fair critiques! I mostly just wanted to show off what the Smash Remix team and other modders have made.
@@davidvkimball fair case to show what the Smash 64 modding community has done

Smash 64 is given two extra years of dev time and still they don't give Ganon a standout set? That's just silly.
Did you see how many different characters there were on this roster??
I imagine it would have been ported to the Gamecube like Animal Crossing
Hmm, I'm not sure the artstyle would have lent itself well to a 1:1 port like Animal Crossing does though.
Still being lazy with Luigi’s voice is the only flaw.
Now you gotta do a what if smash bros on the original plan for melee for the wii if they didnt make brawl thingy
I actually have a draft for that but it wouldn't be very interesting 😂
Super Blessed Timeline ahoy!
👍
@EclipsingTNT Sakurai was considering geno to be a fighter not wanting him in the game to be a fighter.
@@INFERNO95From Sakurai himself:
