What If Every Franchise in Smash Had 8 Characters?

- 8-Player Smash has always been a pretty wild concept, but very few franchises take advantage of the ability to play an 8-player Smash with every character in that franchise. So what if EVERY franchise had 8 characters? That's what this video aims to determine.
Imagine how angry the Smash community would be if Daisy got cut but every enemy from Ice Climbers were added.
Oh yeah, and GRASS from Duck Hunt
Make Daisy not an echo, problem solved.
She exists in Smash to bump Waluigi from the Mario Sports slot more than because Super Mario Land is an important bridge game from Mario to Wario, so give her the sports moveset that would've otherwise gone to a playable Waluigi.
I'd be SEETHING.
Honestly? I would be genuinely interested if the next Smash game took a "No One is Here" approach. Literally announce it by running the "Everyone is Here" trailer in reverse, eliminating all previously playable fighters and making a new roster from previously unplayable characters. Trophy characters would probably get first billing. ...Obviously this is a crazy idea.

Just as a heads-up, the Persona fandom would burn Nintendo HQ to the ground and crucify Sakurai if Marie was added to Smash before other Persona 4 characters. The other picks are good though!

@@luigconyoutube7551 That's a good pick. I think Takamaru (from Mysterious Murasame Castle) would also be a pretty great choice as well. There's still a lot of characters from that NES era of games with great potential for a moveset.

Some Pokémon Generations just had bad timing
There's no playable gen 3 or gen 5 Pokémon because the former was too late for Melee but too early for Brawl and the latter was too early for Smash 4. Gen 8 was too late for Ultimate and didn’t even get a DLC.
@@brandonwilliams6119 gen 3 had especially bad timing. Gen 5 at least came out close enough to Smash 4 that it got a stage on 3DS. Gen 3 came out the year *after* Melee and was too old to justify anything more than pokeball pokemon by the time Brawl came around.
I wonder if something similar will wind up happening to gen 8 and/or 9 when Smash 6 eventually happens.
I've never played a Sonic game in my life, but I feel like if he wasn't third party he'd already have 8. Very iconic series with many very recognizable characters.
For some reason Sega is limiting Sakurai....if Sega was more chill with Smash...Sonic would habe 50 songs with 40 of them being remixes....the franchise would get at minimum 5 reps and would have more than 2 stages....and they wouldn't just be the Green hill clones, unlike Mario...Sonic stages would be unique....
But of course Sega activated paranoid mode and Limits Sakurai with everything

Not a fan of this list. Five out of eight of them are hedgehogs. I'd say dump Silver and Metal for Blaze and Rouge.
It’s genuinely insane to me that Shadow isn’t an echo fighter. Eggman would also be a great character choice.

Spoilers warning.
Axel and aqua are mostly fine.
Roxas is part of Sora but not really.
Both xemnas and ansem are both part of another character Xehanort. Terra kindof is also ansem because he kindof fuses with xehanort to give birth to terranort who later steals the identity of Ansem the wise, impersonating him to become the ansem you showed. Although, terra has no direct conection with Xemnas.
Riku got his heart connected with Terra when he was young so they kind of vould be considered the same character. Maybe. Also, Riku eventually transforms into the Ansem you show, giving up his body to morph with him. Don't worry, it's for lore reasons.
Also, Sora's heart has touched every character, so they are all kind of but not really one and the same. But actually not.
The only real and actually directly and indisputably (kind of) two characters that chanonically are the same are Ansem and Xemnas. Although one is the Heartless and the other is the Nobody (kind of) of Xehanort, so they are technically both versions of himself.
Roxas is kind of the same, being the Nobody of Sora, but he is kind of the exeption, because he lived at the same time as Sora (but not really), so he kind of is treated sometimes as a different character. But not really.
Made it extra confusing so you get a taste of the Kingdom Hearts exeprience, getting to know everything by yourself. And also, this info is extremely ssimplified and may vary from KH3 onwards, since I've yet to play them. But I doubt there is any twists on the story, as it's quite straight forward and easy to follow.

If you have Terra and Aqua, you need to have Ventus to complete the trio.
I assume you left Ventus out because you looked at him, said "that's Roxas" and called it a day, but that's wrong. The pair actually have very little in common. Roxas is Sora's nobody, while Ventus hid inside Sora's heart to heal when Sora was a child. Ventus caused the design of Roxas, but they have very little in common beyond that.
Kingdom Hearts is a series where you can do a koopalings, having multiple characters presented as different costumes. Riku can be Repliku, Ventus can be Roxas, Sora can be Vanitus, Terra can be the Lingering Will...
I mean if you don't count Daisy as separate, Mario has 8 characters too.
Mario, Luigi, Dr. Mario, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Rosalina, Piranha Plant.
@@hypotheticaltapeworm you could view it that way, although it would still feel weird to do an 8-player Smash without Daisy. I believe even in this video I used Daisy in the gameplay instead of Doc. Even though logically she is basically a Peach costume, the separate character slot just makes it feel like she is her own character.

No slightly different attacks, no tipper, not even something small like the Belmonts' fire having different properties - nothing. Which is baffling honestly. Why was she not a costume?

You could have grouped up duck hunt, the ice climbers and rob as representatives of the NES era of Nintendo and then just added characters from other games from that time like Wrecking Crew and Excitebike for example

I think Susie from Planet Robobot would be a good kirby rep, she could even have the gimmick of switching in and out of her mech, similar to when you play as her in star allies
star allies gave us so much potential for possible movesets for kirby side characters

Rosalina WAS more relevant than Daisy in the Wii and Wii U era, with her being playable in Mario Kart Wii and every other Mario Kart game afterwards and Super Mario 3D World and thus got in Smash 4 but every since then she never made any significant appearances in any Mario games after that, having a pathetic cameo in Mario Odyssey and excluded from Wonder. Daisy on the other hand, not only is way more older in creation, but she now is way more relevant than Rosalina ever is, with Super Mario Run and Wonder, she got back to main series status and even received spotlight with her tan she got back ever since Golf Super Rush. Also I can say that Daisy is way more popular than Rosalina nowadays, in fact I think even Pauline is more popular than Rosalina. So yeah, Daisy deserves to stay.
Rosalina has a few things over Daisy. Firstly, Rosalina was int he base game of strikers, while Daisy was left out until DLC. Rosalina was also a crucial part of Sparks of Hope, and plenty of hints to Galaxy were thrown into the Mario movie so it is likely Rosalina will be in the next one and unlikely they would add her and Daisy. Plus I believe Rosalina got more alts in Mario Kart Tour than Daisy (although I think it was very close). Daisy has had a few wins recently, but Rosalina had an entire spin off based around her and will likely be in the biggest non-gaming thing Nintendo is putting out at the moment. Rosalina is a character they know they can market hard.

Do you think it's likely Rosalina will be in the next movie because of Mario Galaxy references? The movie had references to a lot of Mario games, a line of dialogue of Peach, music from the game and a nihilistic Lumalee doesn't guarantee Rosalina will be in the next movie, you are just wishful thinking, also kudos to you to bring down your argument even lower for thinking Rosalina is better than Daisy for something that still didn't happenned.
I'm a bigger fan of Daisy overall but imo, Rosalina has better potential as a fighter. Like trust me bro, I'm a Rosalina hater and I would pick her in Smash over Daisy.
Also this wasn't mentioned, but Daisy very much feels more like a palette swap of Peach *appearance-wise* with very little indication of her being her own character.

Also, I have to mention that as an Echo of Peach, would it not make sense that she lives and dies by the fighter she's echoing, and vice versa? If that's the case, then Rosalina has to go. Not a cut I would want to make, but the most sensible play here, along with cutting the Plant and Dr. Mario.
Fun fact: For Pac-Man there is a group of 8 that is already pre-made. The 8 playable characters of Pac-Man Party. Pac-Man, the 4 ghosts, and the 3 other characters from the game, Patra the jackal girl, Woofa the Yeti, and Roger the Robot.

Zombie could pull out of all of his cousins. Husks, drowned, pigmen, babies, jokey, giants, dungeon variants (the game).
Like he can wield every tools like steve. Have armor. Ride a chicken. Throw a trident. Aply poison or another debuff. Use Lava attacks, and fire move including his would set him on fire, taking slight damage, but also increasing damage dealt to others. Summon an army of pigmen. Have a shield breaker (he break wooden doors).
And that's what I could find without any knowledge of minecraft dungeons zombies.
Duck Hunt's meant to also represent Wild Gunman and Hogan's Alley.
@@josephfanning1241 it has them in its moveset, but I didn't want to go that direction for this. After all, those games aren't in the same franchise as it were, and regardless, other characters have had a similar deal going on in the past - Pac-Man has multiple other Namco characters in his taunts and they used Terry as an SNK representative in general. Keeping just to the franchise as is felt cleaner to me.

No shy guy for Yoshi? Definitely feels more ubiquitous than bandit or ukiki. I know they debuted in Mario, but they are way more Yoshi enemies at this point. Shy guys don’t usually even show up in mainline Mario games. Also a ton of variants of shy guys (stilt, spear, etc) from Yoshis island

Shy Guy still ultimately feels more Mario than Yoshi to me, but the Bandit is a subspecies of Shy Guy so I still tried to rep them through that.

As a Xenoblade fan: The issue with Pyra and Mythra not being allowed to be 2 characters in one is that.... that is literally what they are in Xenoblade 2. While they can both always see and hear what's happening (unless one of them is asleep), only one can be in control at a time, and they need to switch places exactly like they do in Smash.
And none of the two is a better choice than the other: Pyra is clearly the most important in Xenoblade 2, being in the game for 3 more chapters than Mythra and being in control more often than her, but Mythra is FAR more important in the game's dlc campaign and to the overall Xenoblade lore, and many people who have played more than just Xenoblade 2 would agree that she is more important and memorable than Pyra, though that's tough to say.
That being said, your picks for the Xenoblade series were absolutely perfect, assuming Pyra and Mythra are with Rex because child Rex (as featured here) would not do much without a blade. Other than that, the only character I could see people making an argument for besides these 8 is Jin instead of like Matthew or Malos but both of them are so based they need to stay (Matthew literally talks about his balls, 10/10 character)
You know what, I actually did have Jin instead of Malos but ended up swapping them for the sole reason that it would bug me to have two characters in the roster called Jin. Although in hindsight I maybe could have swapped Tekken's Jin for Heihachi but that's a whole different can of worms. Or I could be less picky about these things but that's no fun.
Mythra is more important because of her participation on the Torna Cooking Conquest
yeah, as part a plural system having Pyra and Mythra separated would Hurt given how good they are as representation for systems! so despite how much I love them I'm definitely happy with the choice for them to not be included at all if they can't be together!
I think this makes much more sense if you combine the retro reps:
Climbers, Polar Bear, Mr G&W, Cat, R.O.B, Hector, Duck+Dog, Zapper.

Daisy was a highly requested character for years, even more so than Waluigi. She has mainline mario lore and has been making more appearances in mainline games as well. She was even considered for the Mario Movie and will probably will somehow be added for the sequel. So it makes no sense for you to cut her from the roster.
The reason why Waluigi will never make it to Smash is because he’s literally a side character made for mario spin-offs with no background story. Sakurai knows that, Smash fans know that. The only ones that don’t know that are Waluigi fans apparently.
@@juliiouus96 Waluigi will be added at some point because people want him in. That's as deep as it ever has to be. Even if Daisy was massively requested back in the day, I have nene following Smash for two games now and Waluigi has dominated discussion FAR more than Waluigi and as of right now is arguably the most wanted character, or at least top 5. Daisy never had that pull.

Some people talk about who could open up Smash 6 and be the big marketing hook for it and some of the answers go back to Waluigi, after Ridley and K. Rool got in, it feels like all that shifted towards Waluigi and a reminder that Villager opened up Smash 4 and Inkling Ultimate. Maybe they could do a rapid fire of reveals like they did for Brawl which started with Meta Knight, Pit, Zero Suit, Wario and ended with Snake.

Splatoon was such a missed opportunity. It should’ve been Marina with the Pearl drone, like Rosalina and Luma.
But realistically Daisy would stay if u think about it. She's done and gotten so much in recent years, it would make sense by the next game for her to be decloned slightly like Luigi maybe represent more spinoffs or Mario Wonder.
Personally I don't see why waluigi wouldn't just work as a Wario rep as it would just make more sense
Personally I’d like to see Anna from Fire Emblem if they did something like this. She appears in multiple games as a shopkeeper giving her several possibilities, is a trickster class that provides spells, swords, and maybe even other things from her shop, great personality and nice design
@@cloverx5 I think she actually got quite a few repaonses, but I just went another direction. I think there is scope for a shopkeeper in Smash, I've always had an idea for how Tom Nook could use that in a moveset.
iirc torneko from dragon quest (another suggested fighter) is also a shopkeeper? it's been a long time since I dragon quested.

I would actually disagree with this - I think it works as a joke character, but as an average enemy Goomba would have worked best. The joke is better for Plant, but if the focus was on generic enemies than Goomba is the obvious choice, maybe Koopa at a stretch.

Koopas on the other hand are yeah the namesake of the Koopa Troop (well Bowser is) and have way more moves to work with

Regarding 16:02, please remedy this, you are missing out because the xenoblade series is downright peak fiction.
It's one I will get around to at some point, I don't tend to be into RPGs unless they are simpler like Miitopia, gimmicky like Ring Fit or called Pokemon, but I want to branch out into more of them and Xenoblade seems a good place to start.
Seeing you struggle and having to think hard for some of the retro characters was quite funny, I love how you made mockups of each series with the 8 slots, your choices seem like they would be lots of fun and bringing something unique.

Gooey being in Smash makes a lot of sense, since he's already a fighter in Kirby Fighters 2. I also think he's a pretty important character to the series, because of his connection with Dark Matter, but I could be biased since he's my favorite. Don't forget that he was also Player 2 in Kirby's Dream Land 3!
I loved playing as Adeleine in Star Allies. I can only imagine how fun she would be in a fighting game! Her art would make her a really unique character, and the possibilities for her moveset are limitless.

I like what you did with each series but with the Mii Characters I would’ve kept their format the same with designing your own character with a custom move set. I would’ve created a Mii Mage, Mii Bard, Mii Archer following the trend of rpg roles. Then I’d switch it up to represent real life people with Mii Kid and Mii Business person. To represent how Miis are essentially just us.

For X, it would be Elma and Lin. Technically, neither of them is the main protagonist, but that character can't actually be used, since he/she's a custom avatar character, and unlike the ones in the Fire Emblem franchise, there's no default appearance for him/her.

Another one of the most underrated UA-cam videos I’ve ever seen. I adore how you didn’t exclude any franchise; I’m so happy you did that. Imagine if Mario and a random tree from duck hunt were given the same level of care; I love it lol. One thing though, dark matter should absolutely be in the top 8 for Kirby reps. He has a perfect base form, being the blade master seen in Dreamland 2 and Robobot, but could use his eyeball form for ariels and things like that. More importantly though, because of Kirby lore, you could have him reference FAR more than his own boss fights. Imagine him using the master crown, or taking attacks from void. It would be amazing. I want magolor and bandana see a little more, but he’s easily my most wanted pick besides them by a mile
That's really nice of you to say! I am just glad people are enjoying it. Dark Matter would be cool, I just haven't played enough of Kirby to really know if he would be suitable and there were actually a lot of characters that people brought up so he got a bit lost in the crowd.

I actually think James McCloud would be a really creative character to add to Smash. Which James McCloud? From Star Fox, or F-Zero? Yes. Have a character who's fighting style is somewhere between Fox and Falcon with different costumes as the two different James McClouds. It would be a cool way to tie these two dying franchise in with one character and add some intrigue.

Definitely fun to watch this video. I also have massive respect that you acknowledged Yoshimitsu as a quasi Soul Calibur rep too. But this list is definitely an example of how sometimes less is more.
I say, rework daisy with a different moveset and remove either captain toad or waluigi (me personally, I'd remove waluigi)
For pikmin, here's my roster
Olimar (red, blue and yellow pikmin and also pink pikmin as recovery)
Alph (rock, Ice, white and also pink pikmin as recovery)
Louie (either using his lil dog in pikmin 4 or the giant spider robot kinda like bowser jr)
Bulborb (most iconic enemy)
Purple pikmin (I feel like he's strong and big enough to be his own character)
Oatchi/Moss (cute lil dog fellas, could have them carry pikmins to attack after landing a successful charge)
Breadbug (cute, iconic but would be a funny meme character)
Finally, I know we can't have two fighters in one but I think water wraith and plasm wraith could make an interesting fighter combined together

For Duck Hunt, a character I’d suggest is Mr. Stevenson from Gumshoe, since “Duck Hunt” in smash represents the main zapper games… but that’s about it haha
Slime is also an official hypothetical as Sakurai said that if hero was denied, then he would be ready to make slime into a fighter

That aside, this had A LOT of great picks with characters I'd love to see. The Kirby ones especially were very nice. Although I'm tempted to say Gooey be replaced with Dark Matter. Since Kirby technically wouldn't have a full on villain, now that Marx & Magolor are redeemed... I think... lol.
Also think the girl Phosphora got robbed for Kid Icarus. And broooo fudge the multi character rule, cuz I'ma need Marina in there SOMEHOW if we get 8 dang Splatoon characters lol.

Peach should get a complete rework where she uses all new moves based on her costumes in Princess Peach Showtime. So I think that Daisy should stay so she can have the old moveset and Peach can have the new. This will help Fans of the OG moveset.
Peach getting a new moveset seems likely... But i still jaut don't see Daisy getting in. The only person she could possibly get in over is Waluigi and I jaut think at this point he is so hotly discussed that he has to be there.

This was certainly a fun watch. Would be a pretty tricky ask for some of the franchises, but you made it work. One kinda funny thing I remember from an interview is that Sakurai was thinking that if the Hero got rejected, then they'd go for the Slime instead.
As for Pyra and Mythra, there is a way to separate them down to two separate characters. Making things simple, the swords are their physical form, and Mythra used to have somebody else as her 'pilot' so to speak. So, Pyra could go with Rex, and Mythra with that other pilot (blanking on their name).
Correction, no the swords aren’t Pyra&mythra physical forms (those can actually be broken and Pyra&mythra can just reconstruct it) the swords are an extension of their power.

Ok slight problem with Giygas and Porky. Giygas's schtick in battle is that he literally doesn't have comprehensible attacks, also I find considering one still sprite usage to be a stretch.
Porky has attacks you can understand in Earthbound, but in Mother 3, he gets the Giygas treatment, with his attacks saying "What did Porky do?!"

With KH you run into a problem where some characters are kind of sort of alternate copies of each other. Specifically Sora/Roxas and Ansem/Xemnas. In Kingdom Hearts some characters kind of get broken into pieces, so Ansem and Xemnas are two halves of one guy for example.
With the Wii Fit series you could make it work easier if you consider Ring Fit Adventure as a spiritual successor.
And the ROB “series” could also be broadened to represent various Nintendo peripherals and hardware.
You know, I thought Ansem and Xemnas looked similar... Either way, the 8 here were pretty much the only ones mentioned when I asked the subs, with a couple of others popping up here or there, and as I don't know enough about the series I just had to go with that.
@@sladelucas5531 Xemnas is also an anagram of Ansem, with an X added. Which is the naming convention for someone’s nobody. If someone’s heart (which is a soul basically in KH not the organ) leaves their body, the heart is called a heartless and the body is called a nobody, and yes those names should have been switched with each other but that’s KH for you.

As a huge Xenoblade fan, that lineup would be incredible. I think I would replace Matthew with Consul N though, giving a Xenoblade 3 villain rep and being an incredibly popular villain at that. If you did that you could also replace Malos with Jin, who is arguably more popular and would represent a more antihero type of character.
I also kind of want Riku and Manana in the game as an Ice Climbers type character, just because Nopon beating up Sephiroth would be hilarious, and Riku is the best lol
You lost me at "no Sceptile, Decidueye or Meowscarada" cause as a Pokemon fan, I can guarantee ALOT of fans want any of these guys.

I briefly considered it, and Smash has options for sure, Tabuu being a personal want of mine at some point in the future. The main reasons I didn't do that are because the Miis don't come from Smash, even if the moveset are mostly based on common types of Smash attacks, but also because on the Smash Ultimate website they are listed under the Mii series. Maybe another day for Smash.

@@starlite5154 I really think he should be added to smash, yes. If they're gonna add another Mario character, that should be him. If they're gonna reboot smash, the (possibly) 5 Mario characters should be the Iconic 4 (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser) and Geno. He shouldn't be prioritized over Bandana Dee and Isaac, but he really must make it in. Rosalina wasn't even highly requested, while Geno had a large fanbase for, like, forever. They used Rosalina 2 times for her major role, and a third one as a purely filler character. Then she became a spinoff charcater, like Waluigi. She has a poor and totally uninspired moveset in my opinion, and even if they were to remake it, I think that even Waluigi has a better moveset potential than her, let alone Geno. She isn't an unviable charcater, but she is so not fun to play, that I honestly prefer playing Min Min over her. My point is, that, more well-known doesn't mean more loved. And, by my comment, I meant that it is now the perfect chance to add Geno, since he's more relevant than ever, while Rosalina is trapped in spinoffs.
