Welcome to my channel, I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together.

While the wood was striking, I think I still prefer natural colors of wood.
Thanks
Alan
Great idea, saving the shavings to use for an inlay.
Turned out beautiful Carl, the coloured ply is quite stunning.
Cheers
Mike
Good job Mr. Jacobson.Keep safe yourself.
That looks great, and pretty easy... Or maybe you just make it look easy! I can see some of those as Christmas presents!
Thank you Brendan, It actually turns very nice you can get it in quite a few different colors.
Take care, Carl
Yes it turns very nice too.
Thank you Steve, It actually turns very nice you can get it in quite a few different colors too.
Take care, Carl
Hi Carl your fast becoming expert with the skew Top job again
Thank you George, It comes in a lot of different colors too.
Take care,
Carl
Thank you Jan
Thank you Bernie,
I just sat in front of my computer and ate a sandwich and I literally stopped eating haha. Very very nice video!
That type of wood also looks great on pens
Thank you Eddie,
very nice as allways Carl certainly going to give one of these a going a go some time cheers George
Thank you Frank, Yes they're are very easy to make. Great for Christmas gifts.
Thank you Mike, It turns pretty nice too.

Saunuolis Carl, labai patinka tamstos filmukai . Bravo. Tai linkejimai is Lietuvos. tikiuos ateity susirasysim.Sigis
Hey Carl, you certainly make some lovely objects. As a cook I'd love one of these in my kitchen, but I'd probably spend more time looking at it than using it.
That is really attractive. I had no idea that you were turning plywood because it looked like a polyester resin from here. I suppose all the layers of glue would make it hard.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
Nice peppermill Carl. I'll have to give the multi-colored ply a try. I'll be interested to see how you use those chips.
Hi Jack, No it was up. I have done a little inlay with copper and brass.
Thank you Tom, I thought about using the shaving from the paint too.
Take care, Carl
The dust and bits you get off this would make a wonderful printed carton, just tale a still of the video just as you showed the white towel with it in and used as a pattern for the gift box it will look wicked and no one will ever guess there is a mill in the box!
Hi Carl very nice Peppermill next time with the colour ply wood cut the blank in 4 piecies lengthwise and turn the 2 opposites to create different patterns....i ll send on your site some photos of a bubinga peppermill that i made with a ceramic mechanism...
these shavings on a cake ! perfect ! :P
Thank you, Yes it's very interesting looking wood.
I use Generals also.. Love it.. Makes grain pop like no other oil.....
Nice one Carl. When you next do some inlay work, would it be possible to give us an insight into the process. I have , like you, been saving things ready for inlaying, but have never done any so a guide would be useful.
Take care,
Bob UK
Thank you Des, I'm not sure if Craig at Chef Ware Kits ships to Australia but he has a great selection of turning kits.
Take care, Carl
Thanks Ron, I've try that a few time but I could never get it to match. I thought about using the shaving from the paint too. I just got home and got your package WOW! that's awesome, I need some help with the code :) can I post some pictures and a video of it? and no you can't have it back....LOL
Thank you,
Nice mill there Carl !!
Thank you Bob, Yes I'll do a video on this soon I have a few ideas.
Take care, Carl
I love Spectra-ply. I have made a few of these also.
Thank you Lyle, Yes "Shop Made Thin Parting Tool" the video should come up.
Good new video Carl.
Hi Bob, I have one on the wax and on sanding on my new channel. The link is in the description above or just search "woodturning Q&A"
Take care, Carl
Thank you, I'll try that next time. I'll look for the pictures.
Thank you Richard,
Cool wood master carl
Wow I didn't know if I had been smoking something funny or if I just needed the sun glasses Really nice. I like it what you do in that if the first time you do something your not happy with then you have another go at it. Great work.
I got it over a year ago. Spindle brake you mean my hand :)
I'll check and see if they have those colors available and get you a price.
Nice work, like the shape. As always a great video, love watching your work.
Thank you very much Gary!!
I have a shirt just like your Carl. It's like we are in a club! HA
That looks good Carl. We don't see plywood like that in Australia. Des
Thank you carl means a lot for u to give the time to write to me so thank you for that and thank you for all the good vids
For a second there, I thought you were making the pepper mill out of PAINT. LOL
Now that would be awesome!
If a little unhealthy... ;)
Great video carl, i always love your videos, take care man, keep doing these great videos, peace!!
+Gustavo Alvarez Gutiérrez Thank you very much Gustavo!
Take care,
Carl
Those shavings would be great for use with epoxy resin as a larger sort of inlay in something.
I think so too, I saved them.
Just a little crunchy,
Заниматься таким делом наверное очень расслабляет ?
Nice job keep it up!!
Thank you, That's a great idea you just glued them together?
Hi, yes I do is there something you would like.
Carl, to be safe, I bought a threaded 1/4" rod and a 1/4" threaded knob with some washers and ran it through the tail stock then threaded it into the chuck in order to keep it anchored in place while drilling. I lost it the first time I used it and when it came out, it wasn't pretty. It actual came out of the piece I was drilling into and flew just past my face shield. It got my total and undivided attention. I stopped what I was doing and went Home Depot. You should to.
Richard Katzman That's a great idea, thanks for the tip.
beautiful !
Thank you!!
отличная работа!
Thank you
It's the handle to tighten my tool rest. I just pushed it in
Thank you, Perfect length :)
Hey Carl, great video as always, I like the idea of saving the shavings for inlaying, I've been dabbling in inlays myself recently and would love to see what you come up with :D
Tom
Did you get a new lathe? I don't think I've seen you use this one before. I like the spindle brake.
Carl, You are using a skew for roughing. Did I see that the long point was pointed downward?
Very nice peppermill Carl, did you make the thin parting tool and handle? If so, did you do a video on haw you made it?
Great video. Enjoy watching you turn. This time it was equally entertaining watching you grab all the colored bits for a future turning. Did you ever use them?
Take care,
Rik
Mooseberry Creations Thank you Rik, I haven't done anything with the shavings yet.
Why would you use the lathe rather than the drill press to drill your holes? Is one way better then the other, or just a personal preferance?
I need to find some of that wood...
You don't find it in a forest, unfortunately, you have to break open your wallet.
very nice job were did you get that wood i loved the colors
I like all your stuff. Do you have pictures of what you currently have?
Drilling it on the lathe insures that it will be center.
First let me say I love this video. I have watched it a dozen times. I completed my first attempt using the spectraply and my work has many flaws to say the least. My question is this...... Why do you use the "skew" (I think that is what you called it.... rather than a gouge? I am very new to turning, so I am looking for a little lesson or opinion. Thank you for your time and all the work you put into your videos. - v/r Shane
Thank you very much Shane! Small spindle pieces like this you can use a gouge or skew. I'm not sure way I grabbed the skew but they both do the same thing.
what are your steps when ready to finish and with what .Thx
Hi carl love you work I just bought another lathe and was wondering how many horse power is yours because mine didn't come with the motor but o am getting one just want to make sure before I buy it thank you and love the work keep up the good work
Thank you! I would get a 1 1/2 hp motor. I'm not sure what lathe you have, but it should give you plenty of torque.
I already gave away all the magazines sorry.
Carl, I love your works! Can you tell me what kind of lathe you are using and the model? Also, do you sell your works to support your wood turning?. Thanks...
Thank you, I have a Delta 46-460 and yes I do sell my turnings.
Carl, what dös that little metal peg do that you pushed in at 0:50?
עץ יפה
מעולם לא ראיתי עץ כזה
Have you done a vid on the inlays?
excuse my english
allo carl where do you buy this wood
thank you mario a (quebec fans)
I got it from Craig at "chefwarekits com"
How much you charge to make one of those for me? Maybe a black, gray and white color mix.
Carl. . how did you turn the depression for the peppermill driver in the top section?
I used a Forster bet to drill it.
Do you sell your stuff? I really like it.
wtha wood u use for this craft???? i love the colors!!!
It's dyed plywood.
Sure can.
Carl, I noticed you turned this pepper mill on your Delta midi lathe. I have the same lathe and I have been hesitant about making a pepper mill because I was not sure the distance between centers is long enough. I did not think the area between centers was big enough to drill the hole. Hence, my question: how many inches tall is this peppermill? I want to turn one that is 8 inches overall. Any advice would be appreciated.
The two I made are about 6 1/2" but you should have enough room for an 8" too.
Hi,where did you buy colored playwood? :)
Thank you, I got it from "chefwarekits com"
What did you use
Hi!! how can i find coloured plywood? or how can i create it? this pepper mill has psy colours!!! i want colours like these
xrisaki stam Here's the like to Chefwarekits he has a bunch of this wood.
www.chefwarekits.com/?tracking=carl
What woods are you using curious about the blue
It's dyed plywood
Wish I could find this coloured wood in Australia if anyone know I love to know
you can order it at Bunnings. also you can get a Timber specialist to order some in as well. it's not normally off the shelf you're right, it's hard to find.
Hey Carl, 'Know this is kind of late in mentioning, but I can't recall hearing the size of the second forstner bit...I've heard in some other videos 1-1/16", and others 1". What say you?Another question: Do you have any recommendations for cylinder thickness before boring through? Thanks
+George Cooper Jr Hi George, I would go with 1 1/6" I would start with a 2" blank.
Carl Jacobson Thanks, Carl!
lol!
What finishing product did you use since it has to be food safe?
Lol, I should have waited until the end of the video. You answered my question. Great job! These would make some nice gifts.
William Davis Thank you William, yes they do make great gifts.
What grind do you have on your spindle gouge ?
wood working I have a 45 degree grind on it.
