I like your version, I think your neck looks better, I think brown bows might blend better and maybe your second row of elastic could be drop by half a centimetre but that’s nick picking. I would wear your version. Fantastic job👏🏻🎉
I’m a beginner sewist making a Clara dress and this is SO SO helpful as I was a little confused just being guided by the pattern instructions. Gorgeous dress!!
The dress is fabulous. Better than the inspo! When I was a little girl, my mom made me black velvet ribbon bows and put them on tiny safety pins, so I could wear them with different dresses and also, not put them through the washer. I had a red plaid dress and wore it a lot with the bow. I was obsessed with the feeling of the velvet ribbon. The bow was sewn so it would not come apart. I just love the look of them with your gingham. When I was young, I also pinned the bows to my knee socks.
Gorgeous dress! The bows finish it off perfectly. I haven’t found making my own clothing cheaper than purchasing clothes but my handmade clothing fits me better and is in fabric that I love. Not to mention the sense of achievement I get from them.
I loved the price comparison 😂 and I get it, my knitted jumpers are definitely my most expensive items in my wardrobe 😅 we don’t really craft to save money though, do we?
This turned out so beautiful! I love the bows and the gathering on the bodice. So pretty. Also thank you for including how much it cost you to make it - considering you only included the materials/pattern costs and it came out at the same price, it really goes to show how even a "pricy" dress like this is not expensive enough to mean sewists aren't criminally underpaid 😢 (of course a company will save a bit on material costs when they're buying in bulk etc., but still!)
Good work Janelle - I like the bow's (although I would have used a chocolate velvet I think). It is not cheap to make your own clothes, I try to only use second hand or recycled fabric where possible to bring the cost down (and recycle). I have had a few people ask me where I got dresses I have made from and then ask if I would make them one - I have done it twice but it isn't really viable to charge them anything near what it would take me in time and materials.
Wow, you absolutely nailed this. The original dress looks insanely low cut, I like yours better! The bows are wonderful, they make the dress. Lovely work :)
The bows are the main feature of the original dress. I love how sewing it yourself cost the same as buying it. But sewing is so much fun, and you got a dress that was out of stock.
I am always in awe of how you are able to replicate dresses just based on the images, using either a hack of your own pattern/s or somebody else's ❤ I've tried this a few times in the past, with little success! But now I'm feeling inspired to have another go this year 😊 This dress is so YOU and looks perfect for summer!
Oh my gosh it turned out amazing!! It's so pretty and I love the bows. They're my favorite part! I think this would look great with a small floral print on a white background as well. 💕
Beautiful dress ! I love watching you curate your perfect wardrobe. As a mom, I'm constantly sewing for my littles ! It encourages me one day that I might be able to make my own wardrobe the way you do. 💞💞
The dress is perfect! I cannot believe how perfectly you replicated it. And as was mentioned, we don't sew to save money, but to wear something that also has love and an experience in its seams!
Beautiful job in recreating the Damson Madder dress. I am not a bow person for myself, but the velvet bows look so cute on the dress on you. It may have cost just about as much to make the dress as it would have to buy it. However, the dress online was out of stock, but now you have the exact dress you wanted! Thanks, Janelle, for sharing the process wth us.
Let's be honest here. Janelle your dress is far better than the original. I love how your dress has turned out the bodice, skirt part and even the neckline is better than the original which is low cut. So pretty, Well done great effort!!!
The dress is very beautiful. Lovely bows! The non-stretchy bias tape on a neckline kinda defies the purpose of the elastic, so in theory, you could just gather the neckline. The dress looks a little different from the original, but it is more *you*.
The dress is just adorable and I love the black velvet bows; I think it adds a special touch of whimsy. The only thing I might do differently if I were to make it for myself, is to lower the neckline just a bit. But that's just a personal preference. Beautiful job as always, Janelle!
Nailed it! Also love the cost comparison. So often when I make something I’m like- I understand the cost now 😂 but it’s so much more fun to make stuff ourselves
Your dress is a triumph, Janelle! It's absolutely gorgeous 😍 and looks exactly like the inspiration image as far as I can see. I think the bows are a perfect finishing touch 👌 Well done!
Hi Janelle. I love the bows and i think your dress actually looks better than theirs. Their dress looks abit messy around the neck line. Yours looks perfect. Love it!! ❤
Janelle, I saw a dress on youtube by a sewist who put the ties as a loose corset thing, crisscrossing them in front or in back. Using the same material, it looked very classy but had the beautiful detail. One had it in back and straps with ties at the shoulders. Even the black ties might look nice laced up the front but would give it more of a milk-maid look. I like your version too!
Hey Janelle dress is fab on you!! I think with your style/figure the bows suited you very much! Also I liked how you included the cost the end of the project nice detail. While expensive it’s always better to make your own
I love a bow! I’d choose a black and white gingham though. But even though it cost you 220 ish you can make it again minus the pattern and printing with different fabrics and bows! It’s gorgeous!
I really love this dress including the bows. Your version is a great replica of the original. The pattern which you used is good one. The silhouette reminds me of your Pansy dress to some degree. A dress which I make over and over again. I love this pattern
Hi, Janelle. You are so talented! The dress looks exactly like the one you copied. And you look lovely in it. I guess I’m on the no bows side, I just think they look kind of messy. But as long as you love it, that’s what’s important.
It is so beautiful 🌼 Really like the detail you put into it when thinking how to do the neckline, so it had the same distance between the elastics. Maybe the cost is the same as if you had bought it, but no better feeling than wearing a piece you made yourself 😍
I pretty nervous about that.. it’ll be a hand wash job for sure and I guess the good thing about them being faux bows is I can replace them pretty easily if they start to get a bit worn
You did awesome on replicating the dress. I love the bows! Velvet just adds that special touch. I would just worry about how they will wash (I think I would have made them removable, using a broach pin on each bow). I'm a worry wart. Lol
I think you did a great job, and its lovely. The only adjustment I would make is the bows a bit wider and ribbon trail a bit shorter - when you put up the comparison pics thats what i thought
Janelle, you absolutely nailed it! Well done. It’s a joy watching you work, your videos are so clear to follow and instructions great. I love seeing the actual sewing too - which some other UA-camrs skim over??? Why? The dress is gorgeous. I’m a fan. Cheers from Sydney, Debra
Really cute dress. As usual, you did a great job and made excellent decisions about how to make it the best dress for you. I am a person that oddly loves to make bias binding. I can’t believe I took so long to even understand how to *use* it. Mass made is not very good.
Amazing dress. You make it look easy. Also clever move to make the bows a faux accent instead of part of the dress. Now if you decide later that you are tired of them you can just remove them and have a beautiful and wearable dress
You have really rocked this! Such a great approximation of that dress! Love the bows…a bit sad that it cost you so much…maybe material on sale next time…but given it is out of stock making one was really your only option….i think I am seeing you take on more challenges these days and really confidently making some fantastic garments💕
You did so well recreating this dress! My next project is to try and recreate a disturbia dress and youve just given me a confidence boost to get stuck into it :-) i absolutely love how you htoke down the cost and hope you'll consider doing this more often. Maybe even adding the time it took you. Im still learning and find it really frustrating that i am so slow, but am really curious to know how long it takes others to complete a project. I aldo think thos will really help eith the 'cost' re how labour intensive msking clothes can be and helps to create a realistic understanding of gow much clothing should cost
6:25 I have the original dress and you nailed it! The casings are elastic, there is no zip, and the bows are sewed on. 👏👍
I like your version, I think your neck looks better, I think brown bows might blend better and maybe your second row of elastic could be drop by half a centimetre but that’s nick picking. I would wear your version. Fantastic job👏🏻🎉

If Janelle did not film the making process, I would have believed she just bought it lol 🤣🤣
I loved the price comparison 😂 and I get it, my knitted jumpers are definitely my most expensive items in my wardrobe 😅 we don’t really craft to save money though, do we?

Thank you!! 🧡🧡
I agree , the more modest neckline is much nicer
❤❤
Love this dress, its so pretty. Also love your shoes at the end!
This is a wonderful duplicate of the original design, Janelle.
A ruffle on the bottom of the dress would be cute, too.😊
The bows are the main feature of the original dress. I love how sewing it yourself cost the same as buying it. But sewing is so much fun, and you got a dress that was out of stock.
Plus she can make it over and over in different colors, different fabrics...
I really like how you did the neck line. I also like the wider casings and elastic. These are great ideas for any peasant style dress.
Yes! I love the neckline with the bias, and the casing. So pretty!
It’s amazing how fun it is when inspiration strikes. Also amazing how fast it goes when you know your vision is complete.
Amazing, Janelle!!! Your dress is beautiful. I loved watching the process. I also love how you included the cost to make at the end.
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🧡
Girl this is one of your best ig recreations ever! You would never know that this wasn't the original
Two thumbs up for the bows! Velvet? Yes, please!
Thanks Astra! Not all of my recreations have been this successful in the past, you will have a win soon I’m sure 😄
Wow, an absolute stunner. Love love love your dress Janelle. The bows and elastic really pops the dress. You made it better!!!!
Terrific! I actually like your hack of the pattern better than the original.
It turned out perfect! You’re so clever. Bias binding to make the elastic channels is such a good idea!
I loved the way you really thought about each stage of constructing the dress, It’s absolutely lovely 🥰
I HAVE to have a go at this now!!!!! It turned out incredible! So inspiring !
The dress is perfect! I cannot believe how perfectly you replicated it. And as was mentioned, we don't sew to save money, but to wear something that also has love and an experience in its seams!
This will have to be my next pattern, as I have just ordered the Rosa Dress!
I think the way you finished the neckline is great..and that dress will stand the the test of time
Beautiful job in recreating the Damson Madder dress. I am not a bow person for myself, but the velvet bows look so cute on the dress on you. You did an AMAZING job, it looks exactly like the original. Well done, and thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Wow! LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress on you! And it is an amazing copy of the original. Thanks for sharing.
Super cute and it looks absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!!!
Well done recreating this dress! It looks stunning on you Janelle 😍
The dress is very beautiful. Lovely bows! The non-stretchy bias tape on a neckline kinda defies the purpose of the elastic, so in theory, you could just gather the neckline. The dress looks a little different from the original, but it is more *you*.
The dress is a fabulous copy, well done! You also have the pattern to use again which brings your cost down. 💙
You are so clever. A fantastic job replicating the dress. It looks beautiful. Well done!

The dress you're wearing is gorgeous as well!!!
I think this dress is my most favorite
This turned out so pretty! I love how you finished the neckline! Definitely tempted to make one for myself! 🥰
You did an excellent job on the dress, it's beautiful and stylish, great vibe for Spring
Hi Janelle. I love the bows and i think your dress actually looks better than theirs. Their dress looks abit messy around the neck line. Yours looks perfect. Love it!! ❤
The dress turned out absolutely gorgeous, and I loved watching the making process and hearing your thoughts on it (as always!) :)

Hey Janelle dress is fab on you!! I think with your style/figure the bows suited you very much! Also I liked how you included the cost the end of the project nice detail. While expensive it’s always better to make your own
You are a fairy godmother for cottagecore dresses.
You are truly so talented!!
I love a bow! I’d choose a black and white gingham though. But even though it cost you 220 ish you can make it again minus the pattern and printing with different fabrics and bows! It’s gorgeous!
Wow!!! Your version is stunning! Great job! It was so much fun to watch this video and see your thoughts and ideas during the process.
Well done, Janelle! You rocked this make! ❤
Thanks Kylie 🧡
It's beautiful,your so talented.
I really love this dress including the bows. Your version is a great replica of the original. The pattern which you used is good one. The silhouette reminds me of your Pansy dress to some degree. A dress which I make over and over again. I love this pattern
Aw thanks Katrina! I’m so glad you love the Pansy as much as I do 😍
I absolutely love this dress! I want to make one myself 😍
It's beautiful! I like it better than the original! I'm impressed by your skills!
Hi, Janelle. You are so talented! The dress looks exactly like the one you copied. And you look lovely in it. I guess I’m on the no bows side, I just think they look kind of messy. But as long as you love it, that’s what’s important.
Had a look at the 'real' dress and honestly prefer your version 😍
Looks great and I prefer the higher cut.
You did a brilliant job it’s beautiful.😊
Gorgeous ❤you now need to make a pattern and recoup your costs! Great job!
Well done. It looks amazing.
It is so beautiful 🌼 Really like the detail you put into it when thinking how to do the neckline, so it had the same distance between the elastics. Maybe the cost is the same as if you had bought it, but no better feeling than wearing a piece you made yourself 😍
You made an excellent copy of the dress. It looks lovely on you. Well done!!
Smashed it Janelle.......well done! 😊
Lovely! Be interesting to see how the bows wash up.
I pretty nervous about that.. it’ll be a hand wash job for sure and I guess the good thing about them being faux bows is I can replace them pretty easily if they start to get a bit worn
@@RoseryApparelI suppose if you make them detachable (Eg with a snap) that might help with washing too!
You did an amazing job! It looks exactly the same!
I always have trouble finding dresses that fit me right and dont like a sack cloth makeing my own is soo much better ❤
I absolutely love to follow you because you always show that it's possible to make dream pieces instead of buying them 🫶
You did awesome on replicating the dress.

Thanks so much Debra! 🧡
This dress is gorgeous!
Stunning! I love it! Now you have to make the Ganni bow top ❤
Whoa beautiful job...love the dress
It’s gorgeous! You’re very clever. You can make more in different (maybe thrifted) fabric & that will spread the cost :-). I like the ribbons too.
Really cute dress. As usual, you did a great job and made excellent decisions about how to make it the best dress for you.
I am a person that oddly loves to make bias binding. I can’t believe I took so long to even understand how to *use* it. Mass made is not very good.

Thank you for including the cost, it really puts things into perfspective. at least you broke more or less even :)
I love watching your vlogs x you are so clever x thankbyou ❤

Love the end result, the bows are fine, maybe the tails are a bit long for me personally but otherwise I love it! Great work!
Cant believe I'm here so early, but what a stunning dress! I love the gingham.
Stunning dress ✨
It's perfect!!
What a lovely dress you've made. But i love all the dresses jou make😘❤
Aw thank you! 🧡
