When I studied sewing in the school, I was taught to hang the bias skirt for a few days before sewing the hem. This technique makes the skirt is more lively and beautiful.
Yes, it allows the bias in the fabric to stretch when it hangs and therefore when you put in the hem you don't end up having to adjust it later.
Yes 🙌🏻 ❤

this is a very good tip. i never would have thought that this would be a thing!
I definitely do this absolute must
The dress is fabulous! I find with my sewing that the maxi dresses that I sew that get the most compliments are the ones that push me out of my comfort zone and I think “I look ridiculous and I can’t leave the house wearing this”. Wear the dress. You will get attention and compliments but life is too short to not have fun!
Okay I'm now obsessed with this dress! It's beyond my skill level but that sounds like future-me's problem
This dress really reminds me of medieval garments. The side bodice especially is reminiscent of the gussets in those garment’s construction. Either way it looks lovely. 🥰
Wow. That dress is incredible. Unfortunately I'm overweight and it would probably look like a circus tent on me, but you look absolutely beautiful in it. You have a new subscriber :)
Janelle, I do a lot of sewing in my life. I am in school for costume design and I work at a tailor shop. But I don’t spend a lot of time sewing for myself. You continually inspire me to create more timeless pieces for my wardrobe. I watched this while sewing my own dress form! Hopefully it leads to lots of future projects.
That’s so lovely to hear! Thanks for watching, and I’m glad I could keep you company while you sew x
The dress is gorgeous Janelle, looks amazing on you. So dreamy and floaty and so feminine...... makes me think of something Maid Marian would wear in a Robin Hood movie.
I'd love this as a blouse... you make it look so easy! You must have the most patient hands in the world.
The dress came out absolutely fantastic! Well worth you skill and effort. Great job!
I had a dress with this style of bodice shape with a high polo neck in a satin rayon which was my favourite maxi dress so comfortable. 1979 it remained part of my wardrobe until 2000 the material just gave up the ghost.
That’s so amazing! I hope this dress lasts me that long 😄
Sustainable wardrobe goals ❤
You should put your cutting table on 4x4 blocks of wood. It will make the height so much nicer for cutting!
Maybe better for sewing too, maybe. I noticed how much Janelle was stooped over the sewing machine (sorry, couldn't think of a more elegant way of putting it) and how much that ends up hurting after a few hours... It does me, when I sew or craft... Our heads weigh like 7lbs and it strains our neck and back muscles in this position. Same for when we spend too much time on our cell phones. Ugh. Ergonomics!
One day would you mind showing us your sewing fails or half completed projects? I have a bunch... and sometimes I feel like I'm alone. 😅 Love your videos and outfits. 🥰
I made a dress for my daughter... tried the bodice on before the next step, too small, so made a bigger bodice and decided to use the smaller one for a matching dress for her sister. More than 2 months later (I don't even remember) I'm finally finishing it today. I hope.
Love that dress! you should sew another one with the elven style sleeves. They both look good.
I agree with you about Rayon. Cool and still with that dreamy movement. Definitely my favourite for summer in Australia. I'm sure you'll enjoy wearing your dress at any time for anything!
Oooh now I'm looking forward - still new with fabrics, but recently bought some rayon in the hopes that it would be a good option to try.
As sooooon as I saw you repost this I went and made the dress! I love your commentary because that definitely was me the entire time I was sewing...lol like how is this going to work and then it all came together. The true definition of trust the process!
Haha I’m glad to hear you were the same! Jessica from Silversaga is a pattern wizard 😍
You look lovely in this dress. I'm with you in the love of rayon, so flowy to wear. Good job.🏆
The checkered dress you are wearing is also lovely! All the dresses hanging up look wonderful!
Aw thank you, pretty proud of my rack of me-mades 😄
this dress is the best dress I've ever seen. you look incredible in this baby!
I can’t believe that even your birthday mug from Matt matches your color palette 😂. Lovely dress too, so high end
The dress is so gorgeous on you! Rayon was definitely the perfect choice. Love these sewalong videos - so calming and inspiring to watch 🧡
It's very similar to the Bella Loves Patterns, the Linda dress. It is very different than what you have made previously. That being said, well done you on making a dress that's outside your norm and trying to decipher the tricky aspects of it. You look fabulous. 😊
Hi, does the linda dress have a deep neckline like this or is it less deeper than this one?
@@bandanarathoreThis pattern is super easy to Google (just type "Bella Loves Patterns, the Linda Dress"). Your question is a bit hard to answer since they have two different neckline styles. The Linda Dress has more of a wide scoop neckline while this is more of a plunging one (not sure the name). So this dress shows a tad more cleavage. However the Linda Dress shows more skin as it displays the neck, collarbones, skin above the cleavage and some shoulders. But it doesn't show cleavage. So....they're technically both "deep" necklines but they have a different style to them. I really just recommend Googling it as your version of "deep" may be different from mine.
That don't look that simular at all
This dress definitely gives fairy vibes. It would be a perfect pattern for a Halloween costume. It's also a super flattering, feminine dress and I love it!
That is a lovely dress. The construction looks like a puzzle though.😂 I'm going to get the patern and make one for myself too 😊
Enjoy!! I had so much fun making this dress (if you can’t already tell) x
can you give us the appli that you used to draw you pattern ?
@@oumaziza707 Janelle didn't pattern this dress. She purchased and downloaded the pattern from an online store. Once downloaded, you can print and tape together the pages, then selecting your size and cutting along your size lines to get your pattern pieces. Hope this helps!
The dress looks beautiful on you and it’s interesting to hear you talk about a pattern that challenges you , good video I loved it👍🏻
What a stunner! This dress is gorgeous and looks amazing on you.
Thank you! I wasn’t sure if it was going to suit me, but I’m so happy with it in the end 😊
Saw this on your Instagram today and I've been thinking about it since. I'm obsessed! So happy you posted the video so soon 🥹❤️ what a treat!
Lovely dress Janelle, well done cause it was quite complicated. Hangs beautifully…love it…
Woooow, this dress is really very beautiful 😍💖.... Yes, you are incredible in this dress, this is a princess dress, it is a kind of magic 💖. I really loved it! I will try to sew it, wish me luck 😆. Following you! 🤗
Your dress looks gorgeous, suits you so well, thanks for the tutorial, Deb 🪡🧵💕
Thanks for watching Deb x
Thats an amazing dress. You look beautiful in it. My husband said to tell you that you look very classy. A complicated make, dont think i will be attempting it any time soon, my sewing isnt good enough yet. Well done xx
Your dress looks fabulous. I like the sleeves. 😀
Super stylish and beautiful Janelle! !
You look amazing in that colour and style of dress. You definitely look like a fairy princess wearing it. Thank you for sharing. Remain blessed xxx
Ok, first of all, I was obsessed with your awesome mug before you said anything about it, and now I love it even more. What a sweet and thoughtful husband! And I love how intriguing this pattern was for you. It’s fun watching how much fun you’re having with it. 😊
Oooh I need a green one. Absolutely gorgeous as always Janelle
The dress looks stunning on you Janelle, such a perfect fit. You look super relaxed and refreshed following your trip to Japan! As for future patterns........if you'd consider sewing a very beginner friendly jumpsuit I'd be forever grateful!!! 😊
Here’s one I shared a few years ago that you might like! ua-cam.com/video/0RykWzIMc5U/v-deo.htmlsi=CD3Zytx-Aze7gc_k
Yay! A sewing video!! I have been seeing lots of people making silver saga's patterns on Instagram and I'm in love with all her designs!
❤❤❤
Yay! Great to see you sewing dresses again! Love how it turned out! ❤
Absolutely beautiful. You look like a “fairy princess “!
You do look like a fairy princess!
Janelle, I would never attempt this pattern. I felt stressed just watching you cut it out, but you nailed it beautifully! In a word your dress is stunning and fits you perfectly. While watching your video I had a vision of medieval knights in shining armour on horseback, galloping through a forest accompanied by a maiden with flowing long hair and wearing this same coloured dress, the sleeves and skirt billowing around her. You are that maiden Janelle! Thank you for such a detailed video on the construction process. The rayon fabric is so right for the design.🐾🥰
Wonderful dress!! Rayon was a lovely choice to get the flow xxx
I am watching you video after such a long time. I missed you so much
That worked out so well! You'll be so proud of how you persevered and love it even more. Will you be pattern hacking it at all? Playing with the sleeves/pockets/etc? Just dreamy
I don’t plan on making another one anytime soon, but maybe a short sleeve/short skirt version could be cute and a little more casual 😊
@@RoseryApparelThat's exactly what I was thinking. Looks fantastic
I have recently started to have the cutting day be it's own day - it is so much work
I spy the lace scrunchy you said you would make! It’s so cute 🥰
Hehe thanks! I love it 😄
I absolutely love this dress! It looks beautiful on you!
I had an inkling that the side bodice and sleeve would be like a gore or gussets so it was cool to see it in action
That looks so fabulous on you! Well done!
Such a beautiful dress!😍 This one is really a case of trusting the process, the construction was quite unusual.
It was so fun to see how it all came together in the end! 😊
❤❤❤Love this dress. Looks great on you.
😂
Aw thanks so much x
Hi...this dress is so beautiful and perfect on you. It's a greate pleasure to see you sawing another gown in your australian nest although I followed you with great pleasure during your stay in Japan😊
Thanks so much for watching 🧡
Well done you! What a fantastic project to start back with and how successful is it! Looks absolutely beautiful on you.. if the colour of the zip tab at the back worries you..maybe go to a model shop and buy a tiny pot of paint to colour it to match…just a thought… I’d like to see you do another of these patterns…maybe a floral fabric and shorter length…
Love your lacy scrunchie Janelle😊
Loving this dress! And yes the rayon has a great effect. Looks a bit puzzely. But would love to try it too😊
Stunning, absolutely gorgeous so beautiful on you Janelle. So lovely❤ hugs and kisses from San Diego CA
What a lovely dress, and it really suits you! And the colour is definitely your colour 😍
Its amazing that you showcase other designer; I have few patterns and fabric from Silversaga and just need to drum up some surage to cut into it! Thank you for sharing the process :)
You can do it! 👏🏻 This dress was such a joy to make, and even more of a joy to wear x
❤❤❤
The dress is beautiful on you. I really enjoyed watching you put it all together.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the process 😊
You look stunning! 😍 What a great project to come back to! 😊
This is such a dreamy dress! The pattern is a work of art for sure, but the way you crafted the dress and executed the pattern to perfection is amazing. Maybe one day I will feel comfortable enough in my skills to pull off something as beautiful as this. ♥
The dress is gorgeous and looks beautiful on you ❤
We need more blouses! I would love some easy to sew, long sleeve blouses :) yey for more sew-alongs :)
Haya. OMG, you look incredible 😍decadent, elegant & dreamy 🤩I would like to give this pattern a go myself 😀It was fascinating seeing all the pieces of the dress come together, I like the off-piste unusual pieces, yay 😀Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. Ana. xx 🪡✂🧵🙂
words can not describe how GORGEOUS you are in that dress!!! very 'trust the process' fun and it is exquisite!! the color is perfect on you!! it matches your sweeter and it looked like a lot of other stuff in your wardrobe. it would be stunning with black accents. a shawl or the sunglasses are awesome. if you ever have a mind to recreate it, you could totally go with the fairy princess sleeves. you have the perfect figure for this. for some one that is more lumpy like myself, it would show every curve. you are very talented and i loved watching this!!! 🤎🤎🤎🤎
I love the dress! Well done. I also love that you have a limited color palette. I love so many colors and prints, my wardrobe is all over the place. The cohesiveness of your collection is pleasing and professional. Something talked about a lot on project runway and the designer and fashion shows. Glad to see you back. Six months in Japan flew! I enjoyed that too. 😘🎉
Really suits you. Material has a beautiful drape.
Looks absolutely fabulous on you. I am glad you expanded your horizons. What did hubby think?
So lovely! ❤
Either you lost weight or this dress style is just very slimming! I’d like to see you make this dress again in other types of fabric & maybe with the bell sleeves!
That dress is divine, you are such a gifted seamstress. I love this type of video and it's nice to see you try something new.
I absolutely love this dress. Very inspiring.
This dress is gorgeous !!
This came out completely stunning!
It's an elegant design and seems as if it would work with many different fabrics.
Lovely dress…..very elegant…..!! 😊
Love it, just gorgeous ❣
It’s a beautiful dress and love this colour
جميل وأنيق جداً ، أحب الفساتين التّي تصنعيها والألوان التي تستخدمينها رائعة وأنيقة.
Wow, what a beautiful dress! The shape is so lovely and I like that you can see all the details in the plain fabric ❤
Stunning. Purchases of this pattern will skyrocket
This dress is amazing!
Lovely!
The bodice fits so well. An amasing pattern designer, though the top shoulder line has a tad too much 'movement' this dress is absolutely gorgeous. I can't believe how good it fits you, like it was designed especially for you. The fabric, I love.
Yes you could put a pocket in one of the skirt seams but perhaps it would show through too easily. I don't know how you managed to figure out how to piece this together. Your zip is amasingly good considering the colour. Brilliant.
Not forgetting to mention that you have a good body to carry it off well. All you need now is a beautiful shawl or cape to keep your shoulders warm on a cool evening.
❤❤❤
Such a cute dress!!
Oh my stars it's so stunning!!
I’m so in love! 😍
Very beautiful and different dress ...I imagine this dress in white and silky-smooth fabric with lace on the neck line will give a good finishing
Looks wonderful well done. ❤️
The dress is absolutely lovely! I love the style! Definitely way out of my sewing skill zone, but maybe one day...
Stunning!
That turned out amazing well done 👏😍
I absolutely love that dress. ❤
It is such a lovely dress and colour. Do you have any tips on how can we raise the neckline on this dress, I so want to make this dress but I don't like to wear deep necklines.
There are tips on my Instagram page ❤
@@silversagapatterns hi, thank you. I will check it out.
