my dad was the same way, he has hated single ply for almost his whole career. the older materials were always failing under the ponding water. but over the years we have switched almost exclusively to single ply, when it comes to reroofs. we do mostly commercial tho. great work and video my friend
we just started doing a flat roof and its just a mess. its a pitch tear off, flashing is hanging 4 inch away from the wall, the cap metal has a 2 inch drop on the inside of the wall. its a huge mess. we are tearing it off and putting tpo.

@@Photostudioww thanks, i got quotes from 3 diff company and they offered TPO (most expensive), hot mop and torch down. My garage top flat roof has torch down material on it already with almost no slope. We are not expecting any foot traffic on it as well. Been doing a lot of research, still can't decide between TPO, torch down or hot mop (build up roof). Really need some help from experienced roofer. Thanks.
Bryan M they are all great systems. Pick what fits your budget because the budget is the biggest factor. Tpo will be less weight on the roof and the others are heavy. Systems not for diyers. Professionals only. All systems can take foot trafik but not recommended. If you expect foot trafik, modified would be a good choice.
Good work Eric, personally on a flat roof single ply for me is the best solution. It can withstand ponding water a lot better than the other products. Costs more money but in the long run a lot more efficient. I do agree that at times it can be very tough to find a good single ply roofer but just look around and do your research carefully. Hi Eric. Nice Firestone TPO roof. I am a commercial roofer and I find roof leaks for a living. You don't always see roofers use blowout patches. Nice!!
It depends state to state. This was a great system back in the day along with tar and gravel. Im a roofer myself. It was great back in the day because torch down and tar/ gravel were the only popular options. Great stuff that people loved, but as technology progressed people started to move on to other materials. The demand for these roofing systems went down and so the companies who produced the tar, the qaulity of it degraded. I now see roofs with torch downs or tar/ gravel 5-7 years and they fail, yet some that are 30-40 years old still in decent shape. Here in the state of NM the "newer" tar just boils up from under te granials/ gravel and cracks. TPO here is even worse as the roofs trys to breathe intense, the seams go kaput. What we do is if the roof is a torch down and failing, we pressure wash it, prep it and apply a coat of scilicone. Or if its tar/ gravel, we remove the gravel and prepare the tar for the application. Scilicone especially if you can get your hands on the authentic GE brand roofing ones is UV resistent, no matter how much water ponds on it will still keep up great, it is elastic and will breathe with the roof, reflects A LOT of heat and etc. But again it just depends on the state and climate.

I have to agree with you torch down is the way to go I know of one just 30 years old smooth I painted it three times for the person and it's never leaked they just have me go up and paint it to help keep the sun from deteriorating it but. single ply I put down probably 35 years ago couple years earlier then torch and just a couple years ago I had to patch single-ply they had all this new stuff I had to learn it all over again before I could even make a patch

Flat roofs and parapet got to be the hardest.
At 15:10 i see those air bubbles on your walls . but your field looks clean and nice . good floppers.
GetsLAHP...It's the nailed base sheet to the walls, then torch down adheres to the base sheet , not air bubles sir, this is not a hot mop roof
Thats not bubbles. As u can see the surface of the roof is distorted and the cap did adhere to it

Hola Eric, oye compa, si uso ice/water shield as the base membrane do I have to install the flintastic right away? I live in Texas and from my understanding the rolls can't be in high temperatures for a long time. I have a 1800 sq ft flat roof that I have to clean off and install modified by clients request. hopefully you can help out
cover the rolls with a tarp, or a big camping umbrella, if yiu you let them on the heat the plastic will stick to the back of the roll
you can't use water shield with SA cap sheet, usually you supposed to use the same brand of SA base along with cap sheet

overflow ??? on a house that was built in 1930? i think you should read the building codes and know when to apply them, this is a re roof, not a new construction, is doesn't require an overflow
