How To Remove And Install A Flat Roof
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 бер 2022
- In today’s episode we are removing, framing and closing up two skylights. We are also stripping layer upon layer of old flat roof membranes (i.e gravel BUR, modified bitumen, and tar) and layers of shingles on a low pitched roof.
We discover way more plywood saturated with water than expected. As the plywood must come off, we are insulating with a double layer of R15 from the roof down into the building.
Some of the weak roof rafters require extra reinforcement to carry the weight of the plywood. We are not only stripping and insulating but sistering up as well….we discovered much more problems on this roof than expected.
We are using taper ISO to create a beautiful pitch followed by installing TPO membrane. Stay tuned to see us install flashing and drip edges.

Beauty! The extra effort makes a real long-term result
You put in a lot of work but it definitely paid off! Looks really nice!
"This is not part of my contract, sorry." Lmao that was hilarious 😂 8:37
lol
Superb Work! That Roof is so Smooth n Clean! Kudos to you and the Team! 🥇🏅🏆
Thanks we really try our best
Nice clean finish
Thank you, thank you that was a four day process. I got to say the team really had it together.
Need you here in Florida!!
Music is pretty loud, but good video thanks!
Thank you for posting these.
I have a 5000 sqft shop i want to replace the roof on. I want to replace the metal B-deck and membrane. been learning a lot from you so far.
what brand is the tpo membrane used here?
what brand are the tapered iso board?
when does adhesive need to be used?
seams are just heat welded?
Do you offer a consulting service to plan the slope layout and scupper locations.
1. Firestone bc it’s readily available to us in our area and with our local supplier. However, any major brand is fine to use. You can’t mix membranes once you start, so I like to be consistent with using Firestone.
2. Brand of tapered iso doesn’t matter, just what you can get your hands on (especially now with the material shortage) there’s no advantage to getting a specific brand.
3. Adhesive needs to be used whenever you aren’t using self-adhered membrane and want a non mechanical fastened system.
4. Seams are only ever head-welded, never glued.
Be very careful starting such a big project. Not saying you can’t or won’t be able to do it, just a warning that there’s a lot we don’t show in our videos. It’s a lot harder than people expect and by what’s demonstrated in our videos. TPO can be tricky at first and takes practice to use…especially doing all of the detail work involved.
Yes, we do offer consulting services. Reach out to Sam@allroofusa.com for more information. Thanks for commenting and keep the questions coming.
What is the name of that large white membrane? I need you in San Diego!
Interesting video. Even though it's considered a "flat roof" the panels are tapered and arranged to allow for water and or moisture to run off. I have a flat foam roof that is actually flat and or concave (after 50 years.) I'm wondering if new foam panels are tapered similarly? I need a new roof but also want a bit of taper (without the expense of having to go with a full pitch.)
It really depends on the shape and size of the roof. Send me some photos and measurements. Also send me what the dip is or the deflection in the center of the roof. You can find that out by pulling a string line from one side to the other, and measuring the center, that drop is how much we need to compensate andre@allroofusa.com
Thanks for the speedy reply, it may take me a while but I'll work on what you suggested. I'm currently in the process of re sealing to try and get through another season.@@AllRoof.
Very impressed with your work. Why don't you use roof cutters to cut roof in squares before you tear off old roofs ?
No I don’t I don’t really do big enough roofs for it
😍
how much you charge for that roof
I was hoping to see how you do the chimney
I’ll see what I can do about getting one of those out
Great job !!I suspect this has to happen to my roof......feeling kinda nauseated right now,{ Anyway, so at the end there, you do not top it off with the traditional linoleum . What is that white sheet called 18:04
It is called TPO it’s rated for UV exposure. It is a true Flat Roof membrane. It takes a little bit of skill to install, but overall not hard when the tools are set up correctly.
After the roof was installed, I am assuming someone was replacing the drywall inside. Wouldn't the insulation just fall right down?
I think the owner of the building is professional Painter, so I think they did their own thing I don’t know really want
Eet's Not Part of his contract 😅
That roofing job must of been worth more than the house lol.
Oh, come on house values in Connecticut are insanely staggering
How much did you spend on the tapered system? how many squared were there? Thanks! BTW great job!
Well, aren’t you full of questions
Give me a ball park 😉
Well, then, what size roof are we looking at?
Only about 4,200 square feet.
What mil do u use?
60
i'd love to know what was the total cost to the homeowner for this entire project... this is a shit load of materials and a ton of labor... probably a lot
Probs more than the house is worth.
@ 8:37 🤦🏿♂️😭😭😭😭
