Its pretty common for the factory skid plate bolts on a toyota 4runner tacoma or fj cruiser to either brake off in the frame bolt or the frame bolt brake itself. In this video I show you a way to repair this permanently. There are other methods but this method is my preferred as it also upgrades to a larger bolt. Do this repair at your own risk, Im not a professional nor do I recommend you try anything I do.

PS: I wonder how a well designed japanese vehicle like a 4runner couldn't come with this type of solution from factory. Plus... a friggin smaller 4 x 4" hole on the actual skid plate will make the oil change much easier. No need to remove the whole darn thing. Can't understand why Toyota didn't get this fixed.

Thanks for sharing. Just got a new 4Runner. This is a whole new world for us. I looked at the skid plate you got. Unfortunately, it won't work for us because the 4Runner has KDSS - not compatible. God Bless and stay safe.
Rci has the skid for you. My 2015 has the black steel plate on it and it’s a perfect matchup to my KDSS. Enoy your Toy.. love the hell out of mine. Just got back from running the shelf roads in Hualapie state park.

I replaced my skid bolts with flanged button head bolts. easier to slide over rocks better than catching a hex head with flat sides hanging down. ask me how I know🙃👍 Looking forward to your adventures 💯🏆
Can you guys list what's the flanged rivet nut that you are using? The ones I find online don't look as beefy as those!

Looking at purchasing a 4th gen, any special years or things to look for ? Currently in a jeep grand 06 witch has no support as to parts.
Not anything really in particular maybe just look for excessive rust. If it has that stay away!!
