- In this video I do a fluid change on the rear differential and show how easy it can be done in your driveway.
The rear diff takes 2.9 quarts of fluid if you have a locker. (2.7 quarts if you do not.)
The fill and drain plugs need to be torqued to 36 ft lbs on new crush washers.
Things you will need:
Fluid: I used Lucas 75w-90 GL-5 Synthetic Gear Oil amzn.to/3rfF7VA

Hey . Double check your rear diff vent. Looks like you had so weepage there on the bottom. Just make sure it's not rusted shut . Might need a spin. Maybe a toot of fluid film to keep it from rusting shut in the future . Awesome video
How come nobody is talking about that scary ass baby?
I used synthetic in my Tacoma and it started chattering so I went with conventional and just added lsd additive and it solved my problem
The good thing about doing it yourself is that your sure you will wipe the magnet. Some techs will just drain and fill to move to next job.
Leave it to Toyota to make it super easy to drain the oil

Yes the rounded edge faces the differential the flat side faces the bolt

I think there was water inside. It was milky.
Why would you chince on a $1 crush washer….odd.
