The Killer, Jerry Lee, performs his 1968 Top Ten hit, "Another Place, Another Time". It led to a series of Top Ten singles including the 1968 number-one country single "To Make Love Sweeter For You" • Jerry Lee Lewis - To M... , which brought Lewis renewed music stardom. His shift to country reflected the fact that he had grown up listening to the Grand Ole Opry. Another country hit of Lewis's during this period was "What's Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made A Loser Out of Me)," • Video
Lewis was born to the poor family of Elmo and Mamie Lewis in Ferriday in Concordia Parish in eastern Louisiana, and began playing piano in his youth with his two cousins, Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Swaggart.

Fact
Jerry Lee Lewis's piano playing and singing ability come along only once in a lifetime. Glad it was in my lifetime. Thank you, Jerry.
I echo your sentiment. Very well put.
I mean unless you listen to the original artists of which work he covered.
@@freebird3581 naw, he did it better.
His brother was a talented performer too and cousin 😊
@@garyjablonski6742 As well as his first cousin. Jimmy Swaggart
This kind of natural talent is very very rare, with perhaps only 2 or 3 people that I can think of who were able to create a whole genre of music all by themselves. Jerry Lee is an awesomely talented man.
Colter Wall does it too. Both legends!
I agree, love this song
What a voice!!!!
Yes and what should the genre this man created be called? Master talent? He most have been a genius! He was very special in every way and life did not come easy for him in any way. This legend deserved more but still this true talent will be heard and inspire for many more generations to come. Rest in peace Jerry Lee Lewis you were really something special.
Hank Williams and Elvis are among the great talents that Jerry Lee equals and in some ways surpasses.
Jerry Lee got a pretty high opinion of himself, and I agree with every brag he makes.
da killer lol
There is only one
Russell Cleaver haha exactly! Me too. He is the absolute coolest.
It's not bragging if it's true
@@RJ1999x you know it too.
How can one person be one of the greatest rock and roll stars of all time and one of greatest country artist ? His talent is utterly beyond compare! Just outstanding.
Tom Jones also has an amazing voice. Check out JLL and Tom singing together "End of the Road". Also another duet JLL did with Dottie West. I just saw this since he died. It has very few views and I love it.
Conway Twitty.
S
Country and Rock go hand in hand the would be no rock without country and blues
Pure talent
When country was country. Nothing like this today. Jerry Lee makes that piano talk. The best.
++Maggie Mae
There was no-one like Jerry Lee even then. None of the other C&W singers in those days, except Ray Charles, managed to persuade me that they were actually feeling the things they were singing about, not even the women singers like Patsy Cline.
This is the song that revived ole Jerry Lee and his career. Nobody has reinvented themselves as many times as the killer. He is a true survivor warrior. I admire him more than anyone in the business!
Cher re invented herself so many times as well.... But Jerry Lee always acted his age...
He acted wild and crazy .....cher .....silly trying to be younger and clowning.....
@@reginaldharris1721 not so sure it's an "act"
@@weshunter_musicman of course he wasn't acting ......Jerry Lee was a real wild child ....its just a figure of speech when people say things a certain way!!!!
@@reginaldharris1721 I know what he is. I toured with his former wife Kerrie for years.
Part of his reinvention for a career jumpstart was because he married his 13 year old cousin when he was 22. Maybe u didn’t know that but musical talent aside not somebody I would consider an idol
Rest In Peace, Jerry Lee. Thank you for decades of great music. ❤️

Mit diesen Song haben wir meinen Bruder zu Grabe getragen, er war einer seiner großen Fans , in Lee's Alter❤
Five stars!! THIS is what country is supposed to sound like!
Ultimately talented and crazy as a loon! The dude was great!
Tell me again why this guy isn't in the Country Music Hall Of Fame!
Still Not! I don't get it.
Politics!!
I know. It's not right at all. Jerry Lee is one of the best country music musicians ever .
++retroeddie
Probably upset too many people. He was a wild man in his day, and probably didn't play the game the way the Country establishment wanted it played. But aye, he deserves to be there as much as anyone, and more than most.
he messed up with the cousin marriage
What a great voice. Never given the proper credit for a fabulous singing voice.

Absolutely 100% agree. If you like a song by any artist and want to hear the best version just check if JLL recorded and there you are. As good a singer as he is piano player. Plus he adds bits, changes it here and there, each subtly improving it and making it unmistakably a Killer song. One of a kind. The greatest artist of modern American music hands down. And he’s still doing it in 2020 !
Look at the absolute supreme confidence in that face. He knows he's the greatest.
I love Jerry Lee, but in my opinion Johnny Cash is the greatest.
Don't you know at the very summit there are no rivals, only peers?
anniepuk True...very true.
Kenny Dobbins Oh we mustn't forget Johnny. One of the greatest song writers of all time.
suprème confiance;sur de lui le killer
Godspeed Jerry Lee Lewis.
Good Lord, what a great COUNTRY performer this mans was. Sure, he was better known for his rock 'n roll, but he's a master of country and gospel in my book.
Its because when they suggested "THE KILLER" do country..the critics said he couldn't do it...."ANOTHER PLACE, ANOTHER TIME" when #1...One of the greatest albums ever recorded.
Not only is this good, it’s up there with George jones, maybe even Hank Williams!
Incredible performance👌🏼👌🏼
He sung the hell out of this song
That could be said of anything he ever did!
You ain't lying Mr. Samuels he sure did. He was probably the most pure raw talented entertainer/singer/pianist EVER and he knew just how good he was and he didn't hide the fact he knew it. I absolutely love that about him.
yes...like he does on all his songs......he's the "killer"....
He always puts his all in you win again each time he performs it too. Heard a story about Jerry playing a small bar when he was in exile. And he asked the crowd, "what would ya'll like to hear?" Then someone said You Win Again and Jerry's face lit up and he nodded at the person and proceeded to play.
You damn right he did!
Jerry Lee was a STYLIST, as was Mickey Gilley. Proud to call both fellow Louisiana boys.
I cant believe anyone could thumb down this master of music.
Some people don't know what real country is Clueless they are
I love Jerry Lee! He got me through some rough times. Such a smooth voice and can he play that piano! Thank you Jerry Lee Lewis for all the great songs. Nobody can sing them like you!
His seemingly casual, effortless mastery of the piano is a joy to watch, particularly when he just drops his fist on the bass notes
You took the words right out of my mouth. I love watching him do that. He plays the piano as easy as some of us breathe. He rarely looks at the keys. His cousin Mickey Gilley was the same way.
JLL has inspired me to learn to play piano. I watch his videos on You-Tube continuously and thank God for You-Tube so we can see them all...even the ones not ever released.
That vibrato around the 1 minute mark too!
@@wychwoodmusic Have noticed this a lot in the 100s of JLL videos I watch on You-Tube. Thanx for pointing this out.
I had a brother who resembled Jerry in this video. Handsome men
Really sad that we will never see the likes of Jerry Lee or his kind of music except on you tube....as the killer would say "thank god for you tube".....he will live on forever...
Jerry Lee Lewis had REAL Country Soul" !!! No other country singer had or ever will have the "Soul" in their voice like "The Killler" He was just in his prime when he went country, and we all are great - full he did !! He was one of the GREATEST PIANO PLAYERS of ALL TIME !!!! To see him play in a Tennessee bar was a dream come true !!!
Bill Brower
I'm with you 100% on his voice, the beste ver in th Country field for conveying emtions. I canna think of any popular music pianist that came up to his standard. I don't know about technique although it was obviously pretty good, but his playing dovetailed so superbly with his vocals. He must have been highly regarded to have been able to do so much piano session work after his marriage to his young cousin ended his initial Rock'n'Roll stardom.
I weep every time I hear it. Beautiful.
The killer Jerry Lee at work.
Nobody but nobody sings it like him or with this feeling .
Jerry Lee had real country soul !!! Nobody else has it - Just the kILLER !!! His Country music was BRILLIANT !!!
It doesn’t get any better than this.
R.I.P. Jerry Lee Lewis...he did some 'Killer' Country music.
Now and then, you still hear "What Made Milwaukee Famous," but you never hear this song, or "I Know There Must Be More to Love than This," two of the best songs he ever did.
You ask what it was about these wonderfully talenated entertainers, it was that they were real, their voices were real, there talents were real, what you saw and heard was what you got. These days, it's all techno, all about some 12 year old being made to look 20, with a voice elctronically enhanced. Thank goodness for you tube and all the incredible people who captured these very real people, and kept this footage, or we'd have nothing to remind us what real talent is. I love it all.
I could never get tired of listening to this song. I just need to be alone when it plays. Some others may feel the same way.
The way he sings "turning down the lights" at 0:02
Yes!!!! Its so sick the way he sung it. The first time i heard it, it touched my soul.
Turning out the lights. Is the lyric but yea hes the best
Flawless.
One hell of a Piana player. Ain't seen nobody do it like him . It's effortlessfor him
The proper term is pianer
ever seen him play piano with his butt?
A great video from the Hee Haw TV show. The Killer shows that he does have "country bones" in his body as well as the "rockin ones". With this song and others that followed into the 1970s' Jerry Lee understood pure traditional country music.
Some of his finest work was done during this time period.
RIP Killer.. you will be missed! ❤️
Who would have thought that one of the forefathers of rock and roll would sing such a great country song.
Very underrated as a singer
at the 57 second mark he starts a sustained trill with his right hand and sings over it flawlessly. Happy Birthday Jerry Lee.
I don't even understand what you said but I noticed that hand at. 57
Amazing talent
This guy had more talent in his little finger than most of today's artists have in their whole bodies.
his voice and the piano is just amazing. i can listen to it over and over again. and i do
His cousin was my preacher. The hair and piano talent was in their blood.
He was proud because he was at the crossroads of his career. Somebody suggested "COUNTRY MUSIC"..Critics said.."HE CAN'T DO COUNTRY MUSIC". He recorded Two albums back to back: "ANOTHER PLACE, ANOTHER TIME and "SHE EVEN WOKE ME UP SAY GOODBYE". Both went to #1. Both are two of the greatest country albums ever recorded.
Just watched Jerry Lee's funeral with his cousin Brother Jimmy Swaggart saying a beautiful rememberance of Jerry Lee. He said he knows Jerry Lee went to heaven (which I had no doubt of that already -he loved the Lord) . I know there was a big celabration when Jerry Lee arrived with some beautiful music playing. thank you killer for all the great music you left us with, it will never die. RIP my beloved JLL
JERRY LEE. was my friend for sure and entertainer that you couldn't beat.
I saw Jerry live at Kyle Auditorium in St. Louis in the fall of 1968 with my wife of now 56 years. It was loaded with stars and the greatest show that I have ever seen.
Got to be one of the killers greatest but then he never did a bad one....truly one of our greatest country singers....
I was 14 years old when i first heard Jerry Lee and it's been over 30 years now and he is still number one for me. R.I.P ❤
What a man.He was so handsome back then And ,omg, could he sing.
I love the twinkle of the keys with his right hand and how he hits the base keys with his left fist. That’s cool.
Jerry is king !! He sang it and lived it like no one else...!!
Jerry Lee was in Rock and Roll purgatory when he released "Another Place..Another Time" and she "Even Woke Me Up TO SAY GOODBYE" back to back in 1968 or 1969...In one swoop the Killer was King of Country...A tormented soul.if there ever was..
This is my favorite country song from Jerry Lee and one of his best live performances I've ever seen. This live version sounds so good it almost duplicates the studio recording. Jerry Lee Lewis is definitley one of my musical heroes, it seems like I've been listening to him forever!
For whatever reason, I wasn't aware of JLL's country stylings. Recently I started listening to it and I'm freaked at how incredible it is. I guess I thought his stuff after Sun wasn't worth listening to. What a dope I am! Country Music Hall of Fame - what are you waiting for???
JJL at his peak.I think this extract is from an appearance he made on "Hee Haw" in 1969.He was the greatest male country music artist from 1968-1972
Hard to beat that
I'm a 50's fan of Jerry Lee and am still a fan. Love his country sound
.
I am crazy about JERRY LEE, I listen to his song's in my home,my car,on my comp.,and any where i can. this man is a great singer, and I have to say this. A very good looking Man. the only thing I would like now is to meet him for sure. no one has EVER ARE NEVER PLAY THE PIANO LIKE HE DOES.
This man can sing a tear-jerker better than anyone.....
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music🎷 today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
The one singer that I can listen to over and over and over again, year after year! I have everything he recorded, apart from some live performances.
He sure sang the heart out of this one.
I know some people thought that George Jones walked on water, but for my dollar, Jerry Lee was the greatest country singer of his generation, and he proved it right out of the starting gate when he released his classic version of "Crazy Arms" as his first record.
A musical genius and a one of a kind.
I saw Jerry Lee in 1968 at Keil Auditorium live. He played the piano with every part of his body. Great entertainer and great singer. Will never forget it. What a great loss at his passing.
That was awesome! Had no idea he could sing country just as good as rock and roll.
There is no one cooler than "The Killer " in the whole wide world ..... JLL stands alone as THE best !
Jerry Lee.. Happy 85th birthday 9/ 29/ 35 Ferriday, LA
You have lived a few lifetimes.. Here's to a few more... God Bless.. Your the true, "King"...
I have listend to jerry lee for 62 years i have 3 early country albums pure country as long as he dosent do his frills hes in the top 3 of country singers in my book mr s over in scotland
This particular song is one of Jerry Lee's greatest "pure country" recordings! He pivoted from rock to country to salvage his career after a marriage to his 13 year old cousin. Not many artists could accomplish what the Killer did and this prolonged his career and made him into a legend in his own time! My band and I opened for Jerry Lee early in his career in West Monroe, Louisiana (May 1959) when he had a few singles out including his "Whole Lot of Shakin', etc. The Ferriday,LA Wildman!!!!
You have just listened to one of the truly Greatest singers we have ever had. What was it about the 50S and 60S that produced these once in a life time talents? What an era that was. There will never, ever, be another era like that one.
The Killer threw down an eternally great one here. This should be shown to every current “country” artist because Jerry Lee set the bar high and no one in today’s country comes close to this.
Damn right.
Talk about a man on top of his game only the killer could lay this down without lip sync! Awsome!
This version is better than the original
You went to Heaven today. The greatest entertainer of all time, and the true king of rock & roll. R.I.P. Killer.
Jerry looks great here and singing his best💖
He was always a favorite of mine, I was raised not far from him, he was a rare talent, good luck killer
That kind of talent only comes around maybe once every decade or so, what a great performer.
So very sad to hear about Jerry Lee Lewis today. RIP Jerry. 😪
That performance is so beautiful. Almost exactly the way it was recorded! .I saw Jerry Lee at Milwaukee Music Fest about 15 years ago along with Johnny Rivers..When he did Great Balls of Fire, the people just came up out of their seats, went down on the dirt and started dancing..That was really cool! I would love to go hear a group that could do justice to this song..

I was never that keen on Country. So much of it seemed predictable, and syrupy, and I never felt much emotion from the singers. However, Jerry Lee raised the bar and the emotional temperature of so many of his songs way above anyone else apart from Ray Charles. He makes me actually believe what he's singing. I still listen to Jerry Lee a lot, but I seldom listen to any other Country, old or new. Unless you include Doc Watson. Is his music what you call Old Time music over there?
