Helen Reddy and Bobby Darin sing "If Not For You", written by Bob Dylan.
As a bit of trivia, this song was Olivia Newton-John's first hit single and was also recorded by George Harrison.
It's a shame to never find this type of wholesome entertainment on regular TV any longer.
Bobby Darin was so cool! The complete entertainer.
2 beautiful people. so talented always in our hearts.
Never really listened to Bobby Darin much, but in this duet, I kept thinking - Bobby just kiss her. Talk about bedroom eyes! Lord Have Mercy!
Along with frank sinatra marvin gaye barry white lou rawls .... a fantastic singer
Yeah…go for it! 😎
I've always loved both of them, but I don't remember ever seeing them together.
WOW what a perfomance !!
The way Bobby looks into Helen's eyes and at her lips is sooo sensual.....I know this was a standard thing he did with other singers on his show but it was very, very wonderful to watch.....whoever was that special lady in his life was very lucky and Bobby looked a lot like an old boyfriend of mine....REST IN PEACE Bobby 💜and Helen : (
I just love it when someone takes a Dylan and raises it to another level. This is pure magic the whole performance.
WOW...did they get a room after this tune? Hot, hot, hot.
Helen had the sweetest voice and the best personality!
Absolutely
Wow...when did I ever miss this amorous event...& for all these years!
I love this Bob Dylan song. He wrote some beautiful love songs.
Maybe that is why they gave his that award.
Love this version
Love the deep looks in their eyes.
They never took their eyes off each other🎈
He looks like he is going to devour her, Helen is perfect
Damn, I miss the 70s! They were on fire!
Hell man I miss the 50,s, and the 60,s and by golly gossh the 70,s too...
Me too.... I returned to the world in April 1970.....but the world was disappointed
Amen.
LOVE
Bobby Darin
♥️🌟💖🙏🙏✨🎼🎶🎵✨🙏🙏
Both awesome performers very intense!! Miss them both
Wow! I wanted to say “get a room” but I enjoyed it too much!
Two of my most favorite singers singing one of my most favorite songs 🎵 ❤️ loooove
I didn't realize that Bobby Darin was in love with Helen Reddy.
two voices of the past. miss them all.
Bobby Rydell once when live on stage told us... that Bobby Darin was the best performer that he'd ever known.
Very enduring song. My mom loved Bobby Darin and I loved Helen. Dedicating this song to my wife.
Wonderful ! RIP Bobby Darin.
I still can't believe Helen Reddy has passed! So glad I found this!
Hopefully they are singing together again. RIP Helen.❤🙏
I get goose bumps every single time I watch this! Love you Helen and Bobby, you both are missed! Thank you for the music that I grew up with!
They can sing. Wow
WOW!!! It was like there was no one else in their world. Brilliant!
They look in love
perfect duet with a great song and 2 fantastic vocals....
Wow, what a performance!
I just love this ; what a team
Possibly my favorite Bob Dylan song.
Olivia Newton John brought this out in 1970 or 1971 I think! Another fabulous singer from down under!!! Helen Reddy is perfect here!
Shes not dead yet?!
Omg.. this was incredibly steamy. Staring intently at each other with such emotion while singing a duet is not easy. I’ve never seen a face to face duet like this! They seemed like they were in love!
It's a bit creepy. He did that with other female singers, as well.

The News reader said " and we remember Helen Reddy who passed away today "
My heart sank as the realisation hit that one of the world's greatest singers had died.
Helen was very ' Australian ' a great ambassador for us as Australians.
As a man, I love to sing " I am Woman " very loud.
Helen helped to emancipate 51% of Australia's population at a time when Gough Whitlam came to Government in December 1972.
It was great timing.
Gough's Government was progressive not conservative.
After 23 yrs of Liberal/Country Party Government keeping Australia in the dark, Labor had to work fast.
Abolishing conscription, bringing our troops home from Vietnam,
Women's Rights, Aboriginal Rights, Funding Arts and Culture, JJ 1540 AM Radio, Countdown on ABC TV with Molly Meldrum, the long list goes on..........
As an 11 yr old in a very political household, I remember thinking that this woman, Helen Reddy, was the voice of these great social changes.
Well, she was a major part of a very important time in Australian history.
She was a very strong and powerful singer who sang brilliant songs.
I love her very much and am very sad that she has passed away.
❤️❤️❤️
This sounds great helen reddy is so good
Gee, I didn't know of this duet. Bobby Darin was such a great singer, excellent performer, a great talent. He is unforgettable. Died too young. Helen Reddy sounds and looks great.
It doesn't get any better than this!
Love this smoldering duet. They are perfect together.
Yes they are. And he wad also eith hid bestifull. Wife. Makes you wondrr.
ion, yes. It helps them that they were both very young.
While I was watching this clip, which I haven't seen before, It dawned on me that of course Bobby Darin had died in 1973. It shows also, what can be done with the song If Not for you, recorded and written by Bob Dylan and Olivia Newton John as a cover. I have Helen Reddy's Greatest Hits album also, the New Zealand Edition. had it for over 20 years. released in 1975.
Bobby liked staging these face to face duets. How they all kept straight faces who knows but it was like play acting and added depth to the music. The Darin magic once again.
Joe McPartlin
Joe McPartlin i think were some sparks going on.
Who cares?
She almost loses it at 2:06, though.
@@ShunyamNiketana smiling is losing it?
This video is very cool. I have not heard this song very much at all in the last 50 years. The George Harrison version is the one I heard before.
huge hit for Olivia newton John.
and probably 90% of the people who bought it had/have said at least once in their lives, "I don't like Bob Dylan."
so romantic
great duet ! I like it !

R. I. P. Helen Reddy
Her timing, and phrasing were impeccable. One of the greatest
And her pitch was always spot on perfect...her live performances were even better than her studio recordings. She was a real and consummate professional musician, not just an entertainer.
I didn't like the breaks and delayed starts --- sorry.
@@zackparsons3937 Pitch indeed was perfect.
Just think of it as a sweet conversation... leading to...a sweet kiss 💋 😘
His too i think
Three of the greatest exports from Australia are Judith Durham (The Seekers), Helen Reddy and Olivia Newton-John. I remember in 1972 when ONJ debuted in the U.S. with a rock and roll version of If Not For You. This duet is a slowed-down and mellow version of this Bob Dylan song.
This song is the singer's tribute to their significant other that if it wasn't for them, they would be nowhere. We have all experienced that ultimate relationship where that person just rings all of your bells. It is not enough to just sing the words. You have to sell this expression of the ultimate relationship. This is exactly with HR and BD did in this duet. They were selling this performance and I (as a listener) just bought the whole thing.
Like Judith Durham, Helen had a beautiful and unmistakable voice that became her signature. The world lost a treasure two days ago when Helen left us. May future generations discover the amazing voice of this angel.
I could watch this a million times ,they are both so great ! ! !
This makes my broken heart feel a little better 💖
I remember as a kid back in the 70s watching the Bobby Darin variety show. He would duet like this with every famous female singer on his show: Helen Reddy, Petula Clark, etc. He would be in this same position, staring at them and, at the end, move in for a paused kiss, fading into the dark.
RIP - HELEN REDDY- YOU'RE MY WORLD, YET.
Man what a voice Helen Reddy has. I never heard her sound like this before. So sweet and wispy. She can belt out the songs, but this other side of her is just as soulful.
Thank you Helen and many others she sang with .. for your memories of the 70's was a peaceful sound
..not so much for great grandchildren life in 2020 ...
My goodness, never heard this duo together ❤️ R.I.P. Helen Reddy 🙏
She was such an exceptional singer! Wow!
She had to be to break into the USA.
Thanks for this ....so, so nice!
Thanks also to Bob Dillon for the song.
The chemistry WOW
Bobby Darin the voice 50 and 60 .King🎤🎶🎵👏🙏
I always admired his grit and determination. His heart ailment was slowly killing him, and he often need oxygen during his performances.
Wow! I had never seen this before, and can't get over the amazing pairing of two forgotten talents. Helen Reddy took so much crap for recording I Am Woman that nearly all her work has been ignored by homogenized oldies radio stations. What's wrong with singing an anthem about women's rights and empowerment? Bobby Darin blends smoothly into the mood of this song with a whole new voice and style, and Helen can't keep from smiling. I don't know if they were ever involved romantically in real life, but if they didn't make love after this performance, those of us lucky enough to see it now should be inspired to share this with someone special.
I agree very entertaining
This duet made Helen stop hating men.
😉
Rip dear friend of us all. X rest in peace Helen. Go join mac Davis and Glen Campbell xxxxx angel
Bobby Darin was only 5 years older than Helen Reddy.
Great acting it look like Bobby Darin was going to kiss her I heard first heard of body Bobby Darin when I was on a tram to Melbourne Zoo and this young man was seen Bobby Darin and I didn't know who he was and I suddenly Grove had a great deal with that cause the young man imitating Bobby Darin was an amazing and then I heard of Bobby darin's broken love life with I don't wear the Connie Francis or one of these other popular people at the in the 60s and bit of a sad story but beautiful
Wow, there is some hot chemistry going down here.
@Blue Wave 2020 Check out the duet with Dusty Springfield. She could not keep a straight face. But it was cute.
This is the sexiest version of this song I have ever seen! I also love Olivia Newton John's version from one of her early albums. Helen Reddy and Olivia Newton John were both very popular during the same time and both are excellent singers!
what sheldon says
That is Art. That is beautiful.
Helen was such a beautiful young woman . I love the way she looked and I loved the way she sang. Will someone please hurry up and invent that time machine!!!!!! I see someone I'd like to marry
She would be flattered. She's got a really strong personality.
She was a beautiful lady. May she R.I.P 🙏
And she deserves a good man
I thought I was the ONLY one who thought that really. wow. and I agree. Totally would marry THAT one...
Let me know when you find it. I want Bobby Darrin. 💞
Those amazing folks go but never forgotten.
He knew how to do "the look"!
Two of the greatest!
What happened to talented people? Great video
What a master piece of blended perfection. I could listen to this a hundred times.
when you see stuff like this you are reminded of what real talent is as opposed to the fake marketing junk that is past off as music on the charts today.the talent is still out there but you go look outside the music biz for it!
Wow, just wow!
Helen Reddy's best of many grand performances. Bobby Darin brought it out and on....
Thanks for sharing...I'd never imagined these two made a song together, sound great 🎼💖
that was fookin great
RIP beautiful Helen.
Terrific
Helen looks beautiful here as well.
Love Helen's smoldering intensity. This is really nice. Thanks.
WOW,WHERE does that leave DYLAN?
Darin had so much charisma...he was an entertainer for the ages.
This is one very sexy duet between Helen Reddy and Bobby Darin…… Bobby really knew how to set a woman's soul on fire by just looking deep within a her eyes….. such a very sexy, charismatic, warm gentleman….. I never missed watching his shows because he always delivered 1,000 percent brilliance each and every time…… Bobby being of old school, learning from the greats in the business, felt strongly that his audiences and fans deserved the very best of himself, this he openly gave with each performance in front of the camera or on stage……. after all, entertaining was in his blood and every little detail mattered right through to the end of each show……. In my book Bobby Darin is the greatest entertainer this world has had the fortune to see and witness perform in my life time….. such a God gifted talented young man who shared his talents with the world…...
Bobby is missed, loved, and will always be remembered …….. RIP Bobby!!!!!!!
I am now 53 and remember these magical days! This is truly beautiful.*
100 percent..
VERY WELL SAID 👍👍
Bobby looks at her like he’s ready to make out with her.
I agree. Bobby was incredible. I love Bobby & the way he looks right in her eyes. Helen sounds like an angel.
Wow. Love the song and just love this performance of it. Talk about confidence and yes her lip did quiver on 2.05/6 - but she held it. Mac the Knife does it again.
Great great duet. Her phrasing is amazing. Wow!
Helen Reddy.....a truly distinctive and lovely voice.
Listen too them all day long so beautiful
so intense, I don't think I have ever heard Helen sing so tenderly, can't blame her, always loved Bobby Darin, wow, there must have been a connection, miss you Helen, I cried with your passing as it came to me how much your songs were part of my growth as a young woman in Australia in the late sixties and seventies
O THINK there's a love connection THERE. Just like kenny Rodgers. And DOLLY.
Most definitely. Helen must've had a thing for him as a teenybopper. He loved her too, you can see it!
I was so sad to hear of her passing in Sept of 2020.....I was shocked....ugh! I was depressed to hear the news! She was such a favorite of mine in the 70s! I loved you and me against the world!!
I would imagine she was real intimidating to sing with because she had such an extraordinary voice. Just listen how she weaves her voice through the melody without any noticeable effort.. not easy to do👍
Wow! They sang and looked like they meant it. I wouldn’t be shocked at all to find out they kept it going way into the night!! Helen Reddy you know how to bring the heat!!
These two make beautiful music together!
Makes time stand still.
Love Bobby Darin. Soooo cool. This is such a sexy song which proves less is so much more. Great clip, thanks so much for posting it!!!
Beautiful.
RIP, Helen Reddy :(
This is the most intense, smouldering duet I have ever seen! Amazing stuff.
Amen to that brother!!!
she is sexy and that voice
His duet with Bobbie Gentry is more intense than this one. Maybe because they had dated.
Look at his duet with petula clark
Good description
Two of the best. Hope this music lasts forever.
wish Bobby could have lived longer!!!!
Awesome
just wonderful
Given how much I always loved ONJs version, I’m amazed that this radically different version appeals so much to me. But with these two....RIP Helen
