Bros, who actually owns the items in these abandoned properties? Those old books at the 33:28 mark were absolutely beautiful! If you just wanted to take some, could you?
@@sashasue00 That is what I want to know. Why do people walk away from their homes like this? I am always wanting to know the stories behind the abandoned properties.
I feel a deep sadness while watching these abandoned videos. Just imagining how many people were born in, lived in, and died in these amazing castles. So much history fading away, memories that will be consumed by time.
I also don’t understand: WHY THE CITY HALL DOES NOT TAKE MEASURES TO CONVERT SUCH BUILDINGS FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PEOPLE: after all, it would be possible to open a home for the elderly there; various schools, shops, restaurants, hotels, museums.... - But unfortunately, due to the unreasonableness of the mayor's office... such buildings simply disappear in all the winds, snow and rain. - Probably everything again and again - depends on the entire population... who received such an abandoned heritage. - After all, the property could be sold to the population... rather than being given over to be torn to pieces by merciless nature.
Many years ago, here in the UK, there was a manor house that was sold off, subdivided by a developer that did some remedial work and central services put in and then subdivided into apartment sections which were sold seperately. Each purchaser was then responsible for restoring their apartment. It was an amazing project with a lot of very, very hard work over years, but the result saved the building and created beautiful homes.
It still blows my mind that families leave so many things behind. I understand that managing a Chateau is very costly, it does appear that the family could not afford the upkeep even when they were living there too much decay for being abandoned in 2008, but why they don't sell off the furniture or donate it with the clothing, then take family photos and other personal items before leaving. and at least try to sell the Chateau before it gets to the point that it can't be restored. Great video Lesley, PLEASE wear a mask, that black mold might cause harm later in life, you breath in way too much of it, also a lot of those old Chateaus have asbestos as well. Great video, Love from NY,
It might be a case of heirs fighting over the estate? These issues take years to resolve. And sometimes it is restricted to sell or divide these huge estates through inheritance prohibition’s from ancient days. This is sometimes what does them in sadly.
@joni marchess I agree with on this, it seems like they just have no value on anything they have had in life. The furniture alone an the books must be with a fortune , hello from a upstate New Yorker as well.
I believe many times people were ran out of their homes due to wars, we're maybe killed, or taken hostage, so things get left behind. Just what my intuition says... I know it says he was in a car accident, so then his like (many families) could have been victims of violence or driven out... Who knows though.
French inheritance laws and tax make it almost impossible for a chateau to stay in the family: firstly the estate is split between by the inheritors (4 sisters for this chateau) and then each pays 45% tax on the rest (after a €100k allowance). In this case the chattels were sold off by auction for around €90k in 2014, and most recently the chateau was sold by judicial auction for €201k - about the value of the forest and farmland.
@@georgespelvin491 Thank you for that information, it does make a difference when we hear what the actual facts are. Still very sad all around. I mean my goodness some of the stuff in these homes are worth a fortune. It just amazes me how these people lived. I love old homes ,old things ,history, it is way more interesting then modern day.
I have found if i drink two glasses of wine then watch your videos, I actually weep tears over the discarded and neglected beauty of the buildings. Thank you for sharing.😢
So many valuable things left behind. I don't understand why don't they try to sell those items? Such a beautiful place just to be left to rot away. Love watching your videos.
No one does these abandoned tours as good as you do. You cover everything of interest, give as much background on the owners and what happened to them as possible. You also show respect to those that were there but have now moved on.

@@bernadettekavanagh9984 I think the “victors” of imperial power are just Germany, England and America, those are usually the big three fighting over artifacts, Rome and Israel try to grab objects of interest sometimes too but usually just whatever they can bring back to their catacombs and vaults, none of these powers are rightful owners of properties and honestly shouldn’t be allowed to remove artifacts from where they were found, they’re all usurper alumni of the house of Israel (Marion murderers)
@@bernadettekavanagh9984 Of course, we have. It is called Protection des Monuments Historiques. Mais faut il encore que les propriétaires fassent appel à eux. These castles are private properties if Real Aiglon has forgotten...
No abandoned place is more beatiful and more interesting to explore than an abandoned castle! This castle is just gorgeous, all its rooms displaying so many priceless artifacts and exquisite works of art ! So sad to realize its beauty and value may never be restored! You look like a perfect gentleman in this outfit, Lesley and it's been a pleasure to watch this great exploration!
If I'm not mistaken, the room you said was for food storage may originally have been a still/apothecary room where herbs were dried and remedies were compounded and put together. They were usually located near the kitchens on the lowest floor where it tended to stay darker and cool. Amazing place!
Yes, I believe you're correct. Funny, that they still use Marinol, a derivative of marijuana, to help "rev-up" the appetite of people who are ill or for whatever reason, have no appetite. (Yep, the whole "weed munchies" concept is an actual thing lol)
@@shirleysmith635 you're welcome 😊 I adore reading about history, so I'm always excited when I can put one of my typically useless facts to good use lol 😆
Fun fact: the "Roman man" at 51:00 is actually a statue of Diana, goddess of the hunt 😉it's possible that at one time this property may have been merely the family's "hunting lodge" with their primary residence elsewhere. Love seeing inside these places, thank you!
Such a beautiful Castle in a most romantic setting. I feel such a sadness to see this family home abandoned, unloved. Wish someone with the funds can purchased and restore it to its former glory.
Hello from western Canada. Can you explain to us why a whole family would abandon everything?? Can you explain why no one comes to the rescue of these priceless treasures? There must be members of the family thrilled to have the China or paintings?? Can no one save anything?? Is it junk to the French people? Such waste makes me very sad. If I could come from my humble farm in Canada to help save these treasures I would.
@@dorothywillms115 There's another story behind all of this. And it all has to do with inheritance. The children finally got it much later on. This video is probably 12 years old.
Your videos are so awesome. It just makes me sad that they are just left to deteriorate. I wish someone with much money would help restore these beautiful castles and chateaus. Thank you so much for all you do!

Being a United States citizen of French descent I am delighted to have found your UA-cam posts. Thank you for doing the type of exploration in France that I enjoy doing in the U S. I know the despair you feel in discovering something so beautiful being deliberately abused and neglected. I wish you safe travels and many surprising and exciting adventures ahead. God bless you and your traveling companion.
I like the clip you left in of the “re-entry”:of the business office. It gave a little insight ( the deep breath before walking in, etc.) into the tremendous prep work and skill it takes to take us on these incredible journeys. You make iit look too easy when we all know deep down that it is definitely not!
This place is absolutely stunning. It's so sad to see it fall into decay like this. A place as this should be glorious and well cared for. It's so sad that the children of the owner didn't even bother to do anything with this castle as it could be used for so many things.
To expensive to restore after they have been abandoned by the owners for so long. I imagine that the roof in the older side of the castle is rotted through. It also may have a major termite problem besides the black mold. The family really should remove the antiques from the building and possibly display them in an art gallery. There is so much history in these old castles. It is such a waste to let them go this way.
Where I live they have taken old home and restored them to turn them into musuems, of bed and breakfast. I have seen others turned into apartments. This place is georgous, and a historical site. It really needs to be saved using taxes and volunteers for future generations to relive history. They could make the money up by making this a tourist attraction.
@@aleafox1675 The house is absolutely beautiful. I think the biggest problem would be an initial investment in it. By the looks of some of the ceilings, there has been roofing problems. We really didn't see it very closely, I imagine that there are termites and wood rot throughout the structure. Those spiders are another problem, once they get a foothold they are not easy to get rid of. The video didn't show the foundation of the building or the roof, so if they are not salvageable, then it wouldn't be safe to have people live in it. All of this is actually predicated on whether the family that owns it is willing to do a transfer of ownership to the government to let them restore it. Governments usually do not get involved in private property ownership. Most homes or castles such as this one, are refurbished and maintained by the family who owns it. This one in not abandoned, it is sitting empty but it is still a part of an estate. It has a lot of personal effects still in the home, such as clothing, pictures, and other personal items.
Yeah, I think you're absolutely right. For the castle to have only been abandoned for 8 years, there's FAR too much decay for it to have been recent. Even taking to account that it's literally sitting on water. The place was very likely falling into ruin while still occupied, with the last owners likely unable to fully keep up with the expense of maintaining the grounds. It's a shame that you weren't able to get any footage of the grounds, that bell tower(?) to the front of the castle, and that building to the side that looked like stables. That would have been interesting to see.
I love the back story, but would like to know even more about the families history, and also where they are now.. I love when you explain what items were used for.
Absolutely beautiful castle, and your video certainly done it justice, and especially for even wearing a costume from the 16th century, so much love and respect you show these properties off, thank you, and take care x
You're my FAVORITE explorer! I love watching your videos and the friendship of you and Danny. You two are so genuine and it's a breath of fresh air! Keep doing what you're doing!!
It's pretty wonderful that this castle has so many antiques decorating its walls. I really like the recessed paintings, plates and tea sets. The wooden trim along with the tall windows and grand doors transports us to another era in time.
Iam from indian name vidya I love to see all u r video they so hart touching I also wanted to see such places thanku for axploring such beautiful plases
These stories are so sad when someone dies and all that was them, their homes, clothing and personal items sit there waiting for their owner to return. The castle is gorgeous but it is a shame that it's falling to ruin. I just wanted to add that the first section you expored was the servants work and living area ( break rooms and a small kitchen for their own use). When the main kitchen was in the basement the room you couldn't figure out where animals were kept was the butchers room, they would cut up the meat once the animals wee slaughtered at another location, most likely outside in a barn somewhere on the grounds. There was also a small space at the bottom of the spiral staircase that had a latch to keep it closed I think you overlooked. The floors about were where the staff lived and ate. The main part of the Castle was were the residents lived. The painting in the sitting room with all the magazines was of King Louis XIV of France. You really do need to be extra careful around that amount of black mold. If you get the spores in your nasal passages or inhale them into your lungs it could make you extremely ill and many people still lie from the mold that spreads to their lungs and brain so use caution when entering these places that are this decayed. At least wear of paper mask over your nose and mouth. I had a friend nearly die from black mold some years back. She. her son and father all were hospitalized and their house was condemned due to the black mold in their basement. Thank you for bringing us another interesting and beautiful explore. You're getting really good at this. A real professional.
Yeah I saw that little door with the latch at the bottom of the staircase too. I was hoping he would try to open it. I agree about the black mold, he should at least wear a mask. I hope he doesn’t get ill. God bless him & keep him safe. That wooden wagon was so cool. Items like that from these castles should be put in some kind of a museum with the history & usage of them. Such wonderful & educational pieces of history from our past.
@@craftingwithcharm7665 I agree. Someone should take the initiative to restore these historical places. We have many here in the states that are old homes and mansions that have been restored and placed on the Historical Society registry. Many well over 100 years old and yet some people still live in them. I see so many beautiful old homes for sale and I would really love to own one of them.
There are many people like you that do the same thing. I like watching you ! ❤ Some people make jokes, sometimes inappropriate, do things they shouldn’t do like pretending it’s their place, rocking in chairs, laying in beds, manhandling stuff. Kidding around in the mirrors like they’re all that. I would respect the home as if the owners were standing in front of you, which they may be! 😉 There are spirits that still roam these places. Believe it or not ! When you do touch, you are very careful and respectful. Thank you !
Lesley, I decided to look up castles in France before I saw this video. I read that there are hundreds of vacant castles are found all over the country. I guess the younger generations want to live more in the cities and live a life where they can travel the world. They don't want them anymore and they're too expensive to fix because they have to be upgraded to the latest technologies. Anyway, I saw your video of the churches in Detroit. I think that your admiration of the buildings that you explore comes across in your voice. It makes it so enjoyable to sit back and look at everything through your eyes. I thank the cameraman for doing such a good job. I hope you don't stop doing this for a long time. Sincerely, Carly

The wooden statues by the entrance hall and the painting look so antique. It must have been wonderful and magical to live there 300 years ago. Wow. I loooooved it!!!
So hard to understand how the children would not want to save the content’s & memories of their family. Thank u for the wonderful tour, beautiful building.
This enchanting video brought tears to my eyes. It's heartbreaking to witness such a magnificent French castle, once a joyful family home, now abandoned and forgotten. The charm and history exuding from every stone remind us of the memories that were once cherished within its walls. May this video serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of time and the importance of preserving our heritage. Thank you for sharing this hauntingly beautiful glimpse into the past.
One of the best parts of this video is your voice……so soothing and inviting. Along with your unique attention to details. It is so sad to see beautiful places going to ruin so appreciate you sharing with the world while still possible. Incredible, and respectful work you do.
It just makes me want to cry seeing history crumbling. It would be very useful to know the details of estate life. Like a small settlement providing for itself.
At 11:37 in the video is what appears to be a 'built in' corner shelf. (with small statues) I was told that these nooks are notched out in the past to accommodate furniture and coffin moving around the staircases. Before there were funeral homes, they had 'wake' rooms where the deceased would be honored for a few days before burial. Once the business of funeral homes came about, 'wake' rooms were renamed 'living rooms' to accommodate the living. Historical places like this are fascinating, thank you for your informative adventures and taking all of your viewers with you! Cheers~
I think it is very depressing to see all the abandoned homes . Where did the rest of the family go and why leave memories behind . Very saddened to know these homes never hear the voices of adults or the laughter of children.
Sad to see such beauty go to waste.Surely all the paintings with the family crest and the furniture,a family member would want. Its unreal the treasures France has just rots away in these beautiful castles.Another great explore Leslie.Take care.👍❤️🇺🇸 care
Yes - it is surprising that the portraits are sold off - it they were mine I would treasure them. I live close by to this chateau and there are lots of local auctions where family portraits and old photo albums are sold of: they get good prices: people like the portraits - especially in Paris apartments - and the albums are split up - old photos (pre 1900) get €40 each on ebay, and an album might have 200 photos in it...
This castle was built before the French Revolution -- so many changes since that time. One wonders if the family was able to escape. Although the moat is beautiful, it is probably the cause of much of the deterioration and black mold. Thank you for the thorough tour -- you both do an excellent job.
I’m just in awe of the phenomenal mansions you get to explore…. It’s my dream to find/explore a place like this- right behind discovering an ancient artifact. Hopefully one day I’ll make that dream come true!
Thank you for giving us an opportunity to see all those amazing places you go.I love that you take us to a world that we would not have ever seen. I am always in awww with the beauty of most of the buildings. Love following you. Keep well our friend. 🙂
It would be so wonderful if you could have someone come with you who could explain some of the architecture, furniture ,art and some of the more curios of items . Why things were made that way etc… It would really bring these places to life !
Watching old houses, castles and ruins makes me feel that spirits are just there lurking inside the place. We truly can't take anything when we die. We just have to enjoy life to the fullest and be present in the moment. Make beautiful memories! Nice video. 😊
This is the most romantic castle I have ever seen. There were a lot of books, but why wasn't there a library? I find this odd. I would think that during this time period there would be a very large one. I was amazed at how the paint in the living areas was in fairly good shape. I'd like to know what brand they used. I wish Disney would or someone like Downton Abbey would purchase this, and restore it to it's grandsor. Simply 🌹 romance.
I love your videos. I like to set and imagine these room’s being turned into banquet rooms with a beautiful bride coming down the staircase. I wish I had money I would buy all of them and turn them into party rooms. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing. It’s heartbreaking to see such beautiful homes abandoned and decaying. Sad that none of his children kept it , lived in it and kept it repaired.
This is a wonderful exploration of an old French castle. Great documentary of a time, a place and the past. So sad the owner was killed in an auto accident. Very beautiful place. Thank you for the great work.
Lesley, this is just amazing, thank you so much for giving us a tour. Perhaps the owner’s estate was contested by relatives or estate taxes have caused a delay in settlement, I’m in America and this happens often if families own large properties with land. There are so many expensive treasures left in the mansion, the furniture, chandeliers or even a rare book could be worth thousands.
I just wanted you to know how very much I enjoy your videos. I have watched others from other explorers but none have the finesse that you do. I would rather watch you because you seem so generally interested in the history and past inhabitants of the house or even in architecture of the home itself. Keep doing what you do and I will keep following you. ❤️ It breaks my heart to see such beautiful places ,furniture and artwork decaying to nothing 💔 😢 I would love to give each piece a loving home.
My favorite thing in the entire castle is the staircase! If only the railings could be salvaged and restored in another large building. Thank you for your passion (it shows).
Dear Leslie, So beautifully and reverently documented, as always. Fairy Tale French Castles are my absolute favourite!! I can't imagine how there are so many of these incredible places all over France and Europe ... It doesn't make any sense to me that no one cares about so many of them anymore ... It's just incomprehensible! 1wish someone would restore every last one of them!! Unfortunately, no one ever will by the looks of. Thanks for a beautiful explore, and another first class edit. Your post production is always perfection : ) Much love from Australia, and lots of prayers for you. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Lesley, excuse me for writing so much. I don't mean to be rude. I just have to tell you that this Castle although it is enormous has a very warm home and family feeling. I absolutely love architecture. There is nothing as old here in the USA as there is over in Europe. I always fantasized about living in a house with doors that were so tall like the ones in this castle. I thought the different woods that they used in each room was a lovely thoughtful touch. One room looked like it was cherry, the next oak and then there was one done in white. Here, they are building extremely modern homes. They have glass staircases that go up four stories. Everything is made from granite and stainless steel. There is nothing homey or cozy about those houses. My heart breaks for the man that lost his life and never knew he was not returning to his home. I know English is your second language. I am amazed by the words that you choose to describe your surroundings. They are very elegant words. Now, I will let you get back to exploration. This exploration really touched my heart. I could feel myself wanting to cry for some reason. I was imagining being that young lady and growing up in that beautiful castle. Her bedroom was lovely and so was she. It reminds me that life is short and time changes everything. That's something that I often ponder. 🌺Thank you for listening. Carly

I love the reverence that he shows these homes. He speaks in hushed tones. It feels appropriate somehow. There's something ghostly about these houses because you can so clearly see the imprints people left in these homes through their furniture, the arrangement of their rooms, the photographs left behind. They are not just buildings, they feel like monuments to people who have long since passed. I wonder if someday another person will discover my personality by inspecting my remnants. Furthermore, you can see the pain that this person lived in in the final years of their life. My dad makes stacks like this. He's a troubled person. There is so much of the save-save-save mentality to him - which is not wrong, sometimes - but you can see what it left behind, and how much it was appreciated by the people who lived past him, whether those were friends or descendants or merely beneficiaries.
Hi Lesley! The King in the portrait is King Louis XV. I spent quite a lot of time examining a lot of King Louis portraits and observed every detail and found the exact one as the one you showed us. There are some from Louis the XIV that were very similar and a few others but I believe I found the right one! Thank you for your time.
I know this was the castle or chateau that was featured in a documentary several years ago...I can't remember the name, but, a family restored a castle like this and it showed the progression of it. I love this!! Enjoy how you explain all the artifacts.
I remember e to the chateau do u know what region it is in . Id like to do urban exploring but dont really want to go on my own .but would be good to rescue the place
You are so great at showing this with great respect. It looks as if a family member was an artist, due to painting standing up on shelves without frames and you can tell those are the same artist. With price tags on other framed works is another hint. Someone was selling the framed one's in one of the rooms. Oh my word, it's heart wrenching to see the castle deteriorating but all the furniture, artworks, light fixtures... it's just sickening it breaks my heart.
IT cost so much to save these buildings that it cant be done. Its such a shame. Some of the antiques should be saved. These things can never be made today. These homes can never be built today. There every where in the world. Going to ruin. We are very lucky that Lesley and Danny are able to bring it to us to see. Not long and they will be gone for ever. We all know there were happy times and very sad times in these places. Things we will never know about the people that lived here. I know I speak for everyone when I say we love what You two bring us. Thank you for your time and money for giving us these homes. Stay safe and we will keep watching Bros of decay
Please be very careful of black mold in so many of theses amazing places you share with us. It can be deadly to breathe in. Thank you so much for taking all of us on these adventures with you.
Just finished watching your tour of this amazing castle it makes me want to cry! I just don’t understand how no one cares about this place or it’s beautiful furniture. It’s so sad to watch parts of history and all those antiques slowly die… Anyways keep up your amazing explorations take care and be safe
I love your videos. You do them with such grace and interest in the episode. You are kind. As a person who loves redoing antiques, I am always so amazed that the furniture is still intact - sad in a way; glad the buildings haven't been destroyed by greed!
I can almost understand the family abandoning the building because of cost but how can they just leave all the stuff in it??? Sell it, give it away, something but don't let it just rot. Such a waste. Amazing building. I've never seen a stamp on every painting like they have. Wouldn't that devalue it? Love your costume.
It's a much bigger job than anyone can imagine until they have to do it. My brother and I had to arrange an estate sale for our parents' house (an ordinary house from 1965), and it was such a mammoth job, that we had to hire an estate sale company to help us. Even so, many items went unsold and were demolished along with the house, including an antique player-piano, and Dad's big quadrophonic stereo system.
@Lori Kendrick The family crest of arms on the painting denotes that they were direct ancestors……it is very sad to look at the castle and tell exactly what era each piece came to be there……my guess is that he lived there a very long time by himself on the side without the mold……and being such a modern mogul and car fancier, probably had a townhouse in Paris where he entertained friends and family.
Thank you for being so respectful for the properties you enter. Just cause there abandoned doesn't give people the right to disrespect these beautiful homes. I've watched others and so far you are the only one I seen being respectful to these homes thank you.❤
Are you for freaking real? What part of trespassing on private property and filming there and publishing it on UA-cam and making money out of it is "respectful"? FF'sake!
The childs tricycle was really nice. You could tell at one time that many of the rooms were lovely. Also just still seems sad. So much life there once. They should let an auctioneer hold things cleaned up and on the lawn in air conditioned tent with pastries and cold drinks. Before long, won't be able to, with the water and moisture that will destroy it. And not have sale inside with the mold. But I think people would come to the sale to even look at the outside of the castle. Just a thought. Thank you for really very nice tour and you are so friendly. 😊
It's fascinating that sooo many homes are left abandoned. Have you ever made any videos where someone recognized the place you were touring and contacted you?
This is the best abandoned explorations I’ve seen. This castle is so lovely with its elegant touches throughout. So homey yet elegant rich and sumptuous. The wood carvings, gold gilding and simple luxury. The architecture is stunning inside and out. The beautifully understated stair railing is so special with it’s glass newel post. The furnishings and built in’s with luxurious carvings, the huge windows with vertical wood shutters would have given this home wonderful light during the day. The rooms with new items in them are sad for sure. I’m so sad this is left to the devastation of time and nature.
I love when you dress the part and explain the history of the place. I like your appreciation of the places you explore. I also enjoy the detail that you go into as you go through the rooms. Beautiful French castle with a lot of interesting items and designs!
Woow, hey Lesley, what an unbelievable and beautiful castle! This building is really looking like a fairy tail castle. Very interesting and outstanding external architecture, which is also reminding me a little bit of comparable English castles. - I am already excited to see and hear you taking us viewers on tour through this truly amazing location. Thank you Willy for the wonderful comment! This was a true fairy tale castle like you see them in the movies :D MANNYYY MORE AMAZING PLACES ARE STILL TO COME :D Kindest and warmest regards from your bro Lesley
So sad to see all of this go to waste 😭... and especially the fact apparently, that there are no family members left to claim any of those rich historical paintings or the castle 🏰 itself. Great video though and thanks for sharing Bro's of Decay! I enjoyed it immensely....as usual.
He died in 2013 and had 6 children. Based on all the decay, my bet would be that it is so expensive to maintain that it’s easier for them to walk away from it.
I Love Love Love your videos! You guys are the best & my favorite exploration channel of all🎉😊❤Thank You for all the work you do to bring us such beautiful & informative videos! Sending Love from Wisconsin- USA❤

Thank you for the tour of this magnificent time capsule. I could spend a month in there exploring. So many treasures. I'm sure there is secret rooms and passageways. Hidden treasures as well. Enjoyed
Incredible documentary 🏰. Makes me wonder why did they leave all the lovely things that makes me so sad to see it. I will watch it again! 🏰📷👍♥️ Absolutely loved it 😍❤️ keep it up. Period costume!
Just want to say I really enjoy your work!! It’s beautiful you can bring life and interest to places that would never be seen again. It is so sad to see such grand places left. But the cost of restoration must be too much for surviving members of a younger generation who prefer more modern luxuries
I love looking through all these castles with you. The furniture is so beautiful. But they had 6 children, why didn't they want some of the beautiful things in the house? I know that it is time consuming to do, looking through all the things. But to just leave all of it to rot just hurts my heart. My husband died and he had so many things that took a lot of time to gather and show the family so they could take whatever they wanted. I wanted no payment for anything they were wanting to take. I was just glad to have it still left in the family. An awful lot went to charity but at least it will be used by someone else. I know when you're rich there is so much more to be divided amongst everyone but it should be done instead of it being left behind to just rot.
I Lesley! What an incredible and beautiful castle. Thank you for the history and the exquisite tour. I can just imagine what the upstairs and downstairs look like in the 18 and 19th century. The beautiful dresses the tuxedos and all of the servants that took to run that place. Must’ve been extraordinary! Thank you so much she did a great job as always. Sending love from California💜😎🤟🏻🇺🇸
If none of the heirs want the castle why don’t they let someone sell the thousands and thousands of dollars worth of contents. For a charity if nothing else. I would be willing as many others. Otherwise what a terrible waste. What happened to Mrs. Joan?
this makes me so curious. i have so many questions! what was it like growing up in a castle like this? full of history and art that's practically untouchable now. where are the children? the grandchildren? do any of them care? do some of them not know such a place exists in their family lineage? all those books. they auction for hundreds if not thousands each- i'm always looking at antique books because I'm so fascinated that we even have pieces of literature from 400+ years ago. wow. to find out something like this was in my family i'd hop on a flight to france in a heartbeat. so fascinating that every room is so pristinely antique and yet there are "normal" things from the 50's to the early 2000's spread throughout. i wonder if the castle began deteriorating long before mr. Joan's passing and he didn't mind, he just let it age as it pleased to. thank you for sharing. how beautiful.
Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► www.patreon.com/brosofdecay

What ever happened to the wife and six children?
@@sashasue00 That is what I want to know. Why do people walk away from their homes like this? I am always wanting to know the stories behind the abandoned properties.
Too long video it makes me fall asleep!
I feel a deep sadness while watching these abandoned videos. Just imagining how many people were born in, lived in, and died in these amazing castles.
So much history fading away, memories that will be consumed by time.
YES LIFE IS A MYSTERY AND MAKES NO SENSE TO ME , THE BORN TO DIE CONCEPT MAKES NO SENSE WITH HEARTBREAKING SUFFERING.
Que tipo de pessoas são as 6 herdeiras para desrespeitarem desta maneira o legado do seu pai que é também o seu legado.
No minimo deveriam transformar num museu e prestar tributo à vida que aí viveram.
I agree so much history lost very sad.
That’s a great idea
Boa trr4rr4rriteeerereearde 2 cprimo primo
That is how you honor your history by preserving it not by abandoning it. Not everything can be saved but some things are irreplaceable.
This option is much better...than leaving it to nature...
Wow! That's amazing. Ancient building castle, yes it's very beautiful 👏🏼 full of unique ornaments & legendary art 😍 I really like this vlog
No one does these abandoned tours as good as you do. You cover everything of interest, give as much background on the owners and what happened to them as possible. You also show respect to those that were there but have now moved on.
Thank you very much for this amazing comment :)

Fun fact: the "Roman man" at 51:00 is actually a statue of Diana, goddess of the hunt 😉it's possible that at one time this property may have been merely the family's "hunting lodge" with their primary residence elsewhere. Love seeing inside these places, thank you!
Thank you! I was looking at that statue knowing it was something else than what he was saying. Yes!
Such a beautiful Castle in a most romantic setting. I feel such a sadness to see this family home abandoned, unloved. Wish someone with the funds can purchased and restore it to its former glory.
You were dressed for this visit. Thank you, for your respect. I'm French and I like watching a respectful tour of this castle.
It is so sad to see how a tragic accident can bring down an entire dynasty. Every room has memories that are just frozen in time.
The park; the architecture ; the furniture ; the little details ; the light and the shadows...

Hello and thank you 🙏
Being a United States citizen of French descent I am delighted to have found your UA-cam posts.
Haha, that was actually a little mistake in the video. It doesn't happen often but sometimes they slip in ;) Lovely that you can appreciate it!
I also liked that behind scene clip… 😊
It breaks my heart to see such a magnificent castle go to waste.
This place is absolutely stunning. It's so sad to see it fall into decay like this. A place as this should be glorious and well cared for. It's so sad that the children of the owner didn't even bother to do anything with this castle as it could be used for so many things.
This home is stunningly beautiful! There is such a feeling of warmth in this abandoned home. If only someone could save this lovely castle.
Why doesn’t the government of France restore these and rent out rooms to tourists or turn them into museums. These castles are masterpieces
B &,B
Exactly, preserve the beauty😊
I wanted to see this too!

I could imagine this castle being a museum that gives historical tours. So amazing
That would be an amazing idea Lisa!
I think there are far to many valuable thing to just leave behind.
It's pretty wonderful that this castle has so many antiques decorating its walls. I really like the recessed paintings, plates and tea sets. The wooden trim along with the tall windows and grand doors transports us to another era in time.
Thanks for your work!

So very , very unfortunate.
One of the best parts of this video is your voice……so soothing and inviting. Along with your unique attention to details. It is so sad to see beautiful places going to ruin so appreciate you sharing with the world while still possible. Incredible, and respectful work you do.
What an amazing place. It truly is a shame that no one cares what happens to historical places. They all should be treasured.
I wonder if the longhaired lady with glasses shown in the black & white picture at -50.18 recognizes herself?

This is a wonderful exploration of an old French castle. Great documentary of a time, a place and the past. So sad the owner was killed in an auto accident. Very beautiful place. Thank you for the great work.
It’s ironic, really. The owner’s obvious adoration of automobiles - which killed him in the end. He must have intuited his exit point.
I am very happy that I could give this place a place forever on the internet!
Dear Leslie,
So beautifully and reverently documented, as always. Fairy Tale French Castles are my absolute favourite!! I can't imagine how there are so many of these incredible places all over France and Europe ... It doesn't make any sense to me that no one cares about so many of them anymore ... Your post production is always perfection : )
Much love from Australia, and lots of prayers for you.

Bonjour, il est rare de voir des vidéos aussi longue. Merci pour cette visite j'ai adoré 🤩
I know this was the castle or chateau that was featured in a documentary several years ago...I can't remember the name, but, a family restored a castle like this and it showed the progression of it. I love this!! Enjoy how you explain all the artifacts.
Escape to The Chateau..??
I remember e to the chateau do u know what region it is in .
Id like to do urban exploring but dont really want to go on my own .but would be good to rescue the place
So amazing and sad that all is decaying. But that's the nature of history. Thanks for letting us look!
Hi Lesley was wondering where you were ,looking forward to this looks amazing lv Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️
So many treasures left behind. So sad to see.
Great work showing us this beautiful castle.
Great video. Satisfied my curiousity. Astonishing how run down the castle has become in only 8 years! Careful around that black mold.
Please be very careful of black mold in so many of theses amazing places you share with us. It can be deadly to breathe in. Thank you so much for taking all of us on these adventures with you.
Scared of life maybe
Just finished watching your tour of this amazing castle it makes me want to cry! I just don’t understand how no one cares about this place or it’s beautiful furniture. It’s so sad to watch parts of history and all those antiques slowly die…
Anyways keep up your amazing explorations take care and be safe
I love your videos. You do them with such grace and interest in the episode. You are kind. As a person who loves redoing antiques, I am always so amazed that the furniture is still intact - sad in a way; glad the buildings haven't been destroyed by greed!
These places could have so many uses. It is heart breaking seeing these building decay and be forgotten.
Incredible video my friends! Thanks for sharing your travels with us. I love seeing the historical homes you visit.
I would love to see this castle restored to it's former glory.
I can almost understand the family abandoning the building because of cost but how can they just leave all the stuff in it??? Sell it, give it away, something but don't let it just rot. Such a waste. Amazing building.
I've never seen a stamp on every painting like they have. Wouldn't that devalue it? Love your costume.
ak juga kalo dikasih mau...
Since it's such work and if they don't want it at least give it away to anyone who will be willing to haul it away
@@marieburton6127 That is fascinating! Thank you for letting me know.
It is so sad to see these beautiful artifacts just abandoned by the family 😢 thank you for this tour.
FF'sake!
As an Interior Designer, it hurts my heart to see such ruin in such a castle. Your narration as really improved. Like the costume as well .
Very interesting
and outstanding external architecture, which is also reminding me a little bit of comparable English castles. - I am already excited
to see and hear you taking us viewers on tour through this truly amazing location. Wonderful! - Stay safe and many hugs, my friend!
Peace and kindest regards from still agreeably warm Switzerland.
Hi Willy lovely to see you here ,hope your well lv an blessings Ann uk 🙏🙏🙏❤️🇬🇧🇬🇧

Hello Willy! I am very impressed of your kindness . Here in Bakersfield California USA it is very hot weather 😰. I am sending one big hug 🤗
Thank you Willy for the wonderful comment! This was a true fairy tale castle like you see them in the movies :D MANNYYY MORE AMAZING PLACES ARE STILL TO COME :D Kindest and warmest regards from your bro Lesley
@@BrosOfDecay , Heyy my dear bro Lesley, you are of course most welcome and it's my pleasure. - Kindest regards.
Hello Lesley, this is a beautiful castle, but so sad that it’s in this condition+there is nobody to rescue it!!! I enjoy all your videos!!! Say “ Hello “ to Danny from me+keep up the good work!!! X🙃❤️
🏰📷👍♥️
Absolutely loved it 😍❤️ keep it up. Period costume!
Thank you so much Carey for the wonderful comment, really appreciate it!
Hi Carey I missed you on the bros vidio hope your well lv Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️
@@annsmith4739 Greetings! Ann yes I was there. Doing well . Hope you are doing well, too
Really looking forward to this! Keep up the great content! ✨
Love seeing the old plates and paintings and furniture the stuffed animals on the walls not so much but on the whole it’s an amazing building
God bless all the Bros of Decay!!!!!!! 🙏🏽✝️
