    Thanks for the review. I am ordering a Himalayan in 3 weeks (to get 2025 model on my registration). I am going motocamping with it, mostly doing gravel roads. You can do 6000 miles without needing an oil change, you can do up to 250 miles with 1 tank of gas, and its such a cheap bike. I am just going to slap some soft luggage on it and off I go. Its not the fastest bike, its not the most challenging, but it is the perfect bike for people who want to go on adventures and focus more on the scenery and experience instead of riding.

      But you also need a valve check at 6000 miles (and again at 12,000). Is it really that cheap then?

    I like the look of most bikes. The old Suzuki giant bug lights never appealed to me, but as a rule, I like how motorcycles look.
    And yet for some reason, the new Himalayan looks... Off to me. Like one team designed half the bike, and another team the other half. Without knowing what the other team was doing. It just looks wrong. 🤔
    Kudos to Royal For the amazing price point, but it does not appeal to me, and if it did the weight would keep me from being a buyer. - Frank

    Older rider here with over 2 million kms of mixed driving riding under my belt. I did 50k km on a CRF250L Rally a few years ago cross country. No idea why anyone would want more than 50hp unless they enjoy highways for their adventure riding and need extra passing power? I think its funny when guys my age ask why I ride a smaller bike. I ask whey they ride in groups haha...we all know the answer

      @@advmattya fair enough I figured you lived in desert country or where high sped travel is still legal haha
      I live in the heavily forested PNW where roads get overgrown with vegetation and it rains so much older roads get washed out
      One other advantage with smaller bikes can be the price. I have two bikes in Asia and will buy at least one n the PNW this spring and hoping to have a bike in Europe next year too.
      I can buy 5 new bikes for the price of a new BMW1300 so that’s part of my reasoning as well since I’m riding as much as I can while I still can. Trying to complete the bucket lists.
      Of course they won’t do what you need a bike to do where you live though

    6000, 12,000, 24,000 miles valve check interval/adjust kills it for me. Shim under bucket on this new one; not easy to adjust like the 411. First valve check on its main competitor, the CF Moto 450, is 24,000 miles.

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  Місяць тому

      That is a short adjustment interval. Not good. I can see why you would pass on it.

    Nice review! Somehow I feel I trust this review more than those that are organized by Royal Enfield (those journalists all end up praising the hell out of this bike).
    How does it compare to KTM 390 Adventure? I'm sure on the road KTM would smoke it, but what about off-road?

    • @advmatt
      @advmatt  Місяць тому +1

      I would choose the 390 Adv over this bike every day. The weight difference alone of nearly 50 pounds make the KTM the better choice. More aftermarket parts too.

    • @RonOrud
      @RonOrud Місяць тому +2

      I suspected that. My 390 is so nimble. It's great weaving through rock beds and around obstacles.

      KTM in 3 billion in the hole. RE sold 100k bikes last month. I've got 5000 50/50 miles on my Himmy in Colorado and my buddy has 18k on his in 3 months. Fuzzy Biker channel if you don't believe me. So who did RE pay for a good review?

    • @SquareHelmet
      @SquareHelmet Місяць тому

      @@markjacobs3956 did I say that RE paid someone for a good review?
      It's a known fact that there is a HUGE bias in the industry when it comes to reviews - no point to argue here. Even journalists themselves admit and talk about it (check out Big Rock Moto video on this for just one example of many. The gist is: they pay for you to come for rides and for hotels... So you are already more likely to say something good about the bike. But also if you say negative things a few times - they simply stop inviting you. That's the fact, unfortunately).
      Now to the bike: I have no doubt it's a great bike. In fact, I may be adding it to my garage next year. I see RE as solid, basic, honest motorcycles at a great price - and that's appealing. I bought my Yamaha XT250 for similar reasons and I absolutely love it. It's just suspicious when RE-invited reviewers elevate it to some unicorn category, where objectively it is just not a unicorn bike. This doesn't mean it's not a perfect bike for many riders.
      Anyway, in your opinion, is it better than the 390 Adventure? What makes it better (disregard the company mismanagement issues - they don't make a bike ride better or worse)

    I reckon that could be summed up as 'meh'.
    Folk seem to be loving the thing, but after having a brand new 411 which was bought back by the dealer after massive issues inside 1500 miles, it's a big no thank you from me. Some really cheap bits on those r.e. bikes.
    I'll stick with the mighty 390. Was out riding in freezing cold muddy wet foggy single track roads this morning in 37f and I can't actually think of a bike I'd rather be on in those conditions. TC for the win ;)

    Always interesting when, wanting to sound erudite and trenchant, the reviewer makes up nuance (“on the one hand this…”, “it is a great little bike but …”). My review of this review will be, “try and be honest and positive, not fake and tentative. Find your own soul. Don’t be such a wet blanket.”

      @@hershchat you must be new to my channel. I recommend you watch some of my other videos to see how I approach reviews. If I like a bike I will say it. If I don't like it I will say that too. I think viewers are not used to anyone saying anything negative about a bike because the only reviews by the so called experts are always positive. Remember, I am just sharing my opinion based on my riding experience and the type of riding I do. Most of my subscribers are like me. They relate to how I ride, the way I ride and getting an honest assessment. I am not trying to make friends with manufacturers.
