  • I tried everything to capture the flycatcher in my garden, photographing from my van, pop-up hide, no blind. Also used the Pro Capture on my Olympus EM1X with the M.Zuiko 300mm f/4 and go over my settings for capturing the bird in flight as it lands and leaves the nest.

    Super excited to have spotted flycatchers nesting on our building! Does anyone else have any cool birds nesting on your house this season?

      We have had magpies nesting in our apple tree next to the house. They built the nest all the way back in April, spent May and June defending the entire garden ferociously with seemingly no signs of any young, then at the start of last week I saw one young magpie, fairly sizeable but still barely fledged! I follow their progress daily and often put out food for them. The parents continue to defend the territory while this one youngster finds its way. I've completely changed my view on magpies and had no idea just how intelligent they are, and fascinating to watch and listen to; they all seem to recognise me well enough now to allow closer photography opportunities than I've ever had with these birds previously. It's been a real privilege to have seen all of this, this year!

    The image of the spotted flycatcher approaching the nest is a gem.

    Always nice to see a song thrush. I’m very fortunate to have seen a mistle and song thrush outside my bedroom window. Mistle thrush do not like wood pigeons! 😅😎👊🙏

    Love the incoming flight shot. Just usual house sparrows and starlings on house, but after 3 years robins finally (and successfully) used the old stainless steel kettle lodged in the bush near the back door.

    Great video as always, Espen with some great photos and video in the ideal bird photography surroundings……..
    Just perfect. Only wish I could get a selection of these kind of birds in my garden……just wonderful to see Jays what a beautiful bird they are. Your tip on backgrounds is key as a messy background can sure spoil the perfect image. Thank you for sharing

    My sort of wildlife photography Espen close to home ! You cut out at least one variable the subject turning up ! You can try everything you have in the house and even throw in the kitchen sink if required ! Awesome work I think ! Well everyone is working close to home these days ?

    How adaptable these birds are, Espen!. They can breed in the Scottish cool weather or in the really dry and hot Spanish weather. I remember when you were in Spain one summer and you had the flycatcher outside your door.

    Nice pic with pro capture!! Espen in this case when you use the pro capture, where do you focus? you focus on nest? How to get the first photo in focus? thank you :)

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, with these types of shots I focus on the nest and I compose so that I have empty space for the bird to fly. They’re not always all sharp as it depends what direction the bird flies, but after a couple of go’s I end up with a few decent ones.

    Hey peeps, I’m searching for the best setup for this type of thing Espen does, called ‘being at peace with our inner @Stefano Ilardo’. Can’t make up my mind between all the brands, after watching tons of video’s. The Oly doesn’t seem to ever get feather-sharp and is noise-sensitive, the Canon R6 doesn’t have a matching affordable zoomlens unless with an adapter that is reported buggy, Nikon Z6 mkII seems to require some intense menu-diving before being able to do this, FUJIFILM is not exactly cheaper, nobody seems to win bird photography contests with the Sony A7III which is ageing fast, and only seems to have those big BIG lenses that you can’t take on a cycling trekking, … Any advice is welcome.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 роки тому

      😅 👍 - Impossible question 🤯 Best thing to do is try out a few options I think. Rent some good gear for a weekend of photography and see what you think. Olympus suits me, keeps me lightweight and easy to film on the go without using a tripod. But yes, it doesn't have the ISO capabilities that some of the newer full frame cameras does.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 роки тому +1

      I wouldn’t push the em1ii that far either. I think the em1x is probably 2x better if not a bit more with handling noise than the em1ii.
