    What cool looking birds. The goldfinches we have here in Canada are all yellow, I can't think of a bird we have here that has that sort of red/yellow/black/brown colouring. Very interesting to see. Your footage of Scotland also reminds me a lot of the west coast of Canada, lots of green and plenty of rain and mist. I'd love to visit Scotland some day.

    Heeeyyyy!!! We do same thing!!! I do also ride my mtb with the photo gear on! :) BUT I DO WEAR A HELMET!!! You must too. Will someone develop a really functional and safe invention to carry the dslr with the lens on easily reachable? If you keep it in the rucksack then lose many nice chances. But pedaling with the camera hanged on the neck is a very difficult and uncomfortable (and even dangerous) thing. Regards from Spain.

    Great video! Are you able to freely enter private property in the UK with right to roam laws? We don't have those here in the states. Do you have any advice for finding places like this to set up a blind, and getting permission from the owner if necessary?

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 роки тому

      In Scotland it’s free to roam wherever you want, but in England it’s mostly private land. Best advice is to learn about birds and which habitats they use. Pick a target species you want to photograph and read up on it. As for getting permission, I reckon some people would be quite open to it. You can offer them some photos in exchange for using their land.

    Hi Espen. Great videos. I'm heading to Argaty for the Red Kites in a couple of weeks after watching your upload, looks fantastic. I recently decided to try out a gimbal for my birds-in-flight photography. Do you own one and do you consider it to be worthwhile? I notice a lot of your photos seem to be handheld or using a ballhead. Cheers.

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  3 роки тому

      Thanks Jon-Paul 🙂 say hi to Tom at Argaty! I think if you have a heavy lens a gimbal would be worth it. My gear is so light that I always handhold. Unless I’m in a hide and I just need something to hold my setup by the window.

  • @sebastianpalmay
    @sebastianpalmay 3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Not this hide no. I’d recommend the Tragopan V6, you can use it as a pop-up and get additional room to lie down in it and shoot from the bottom window. Large enough to sleep in as well.

    Hi Espen! Love the video! Can I just ask, what are the dimensions of the Tragopan Pop-Up Hide? I've been searching all over the place for a hide that I could use from my mobility scooter. I may end up resorting to just getting some Camo Netting if I can't find anything big enough! Cheers!

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  Рік тому

      Thanks, sorry for the delayed reply. No, the new grouse (pop up hide) has an awning you can attach and it allows you to lie down with no floor. The ceiling can be propped up so the water bounces off it, but if there’s a build up of water I believe it might seep through eventually.

    I’m thinking of ordering a Tragopan Grouse V+. I like the look of the V6 but I suspect I would end up not using it because it takes longer to set up. I want something to use for an hour or so and move to another location. I think a pop up hide makes more sense for that purpose. As long as I can stay hidden and keep a rain shower off, it should be fine. The newer version seems to be lined with black to block light. The colour of the camo looks a bit bright though. Maybe it’s just the photos.
