I’ve just gotten into one of these chassis swaps on a 49. That window to bed rail measurement was something I really needed thanks for posting . Iam in NC as well.
My 55 series 1 was 116 center to center originally but I did a S10 as well and made it 117. Most of the trucks look better with 117 because originally the 116 looks to short at the rear wheels
In the past i have drilled the hole in spring pads to move rear end forwards or backwards.i use s10 blazer rear ends with disc brakes ,which also have positraction ..blazer rear springs also give more load capacity.blazers also have sway bars which greatly helps handling.
I am doing the same build. I am so glad I found this. You work way faster than me. It’s fun to see. Are you sure it is a ‘50. It has vent windows and thumb press door handles. Both of which were first on the ‘52. You have shown me a lot to think about as I build mine. I am worried about my starter now hitting the lower A arm. Great ideas for bed material too. If your bored and can share some advice I have mine on my channel. Thank you so much for sharing.
Looks like a solid truck. Doors are not right for a 1950. If the cab is a 50, the doors have been swapped from a 52-54. I wish i would have put mine on an s10 chassis.
I make my own motor mounts .factory mounts to bulky.also notch frame for fuel pump.then motor can move back and down.this eliminates need for drive shaft tunnel.trim lower control mount and dent header tube.
What about the 2001 to 2005 tahoe?? I recently did a 53 3100 and i used a 95 s10 single long bed and to me was to narrow, i end up using 2” spacers for front and back wheels and I’m using 20x8’s front 20x11 back so not to sure if tahoe might work and I check and tahoe has same wheel to wheel measurements
Is there a specific year of the S10's that you'd recommend? I'm preparing to build a '58 GMC using a donor S10 (complete and running) for the mechanicals. I don't care about swapping in a V8 just yet, as I've never taken on a project of this magnitude before...
I have a really nice S10, you can click on my username and see. But I am considering a Body swap with something 1968 or earlier onto it's frame. The body on my S10 is one piece as the cab has been welded to the bed. It can all be lifted off in one smooth move. What I'm not sure of is if the VIN goes with the Body or the Frame. I find no VIN whatsoever on the frame. I also don't want to get a Donor Body that I can't title\Register because of VIN issue. Any info?
I like your video on this assembly, very well simplified & down to earth advice, keep the information coming
Thank you for the comment and thanks for watching!!
I'm really enjoying these swaps. Looks like Ya'll got it down to a science! Great work.
I think the earlier S10 (80s to ??) have a flat chassis (no kick up in the rear) making box mounting even ez'er! Your truck is looking good!
