    Hey Brent. Nice work. The plasma is a lot better than torches are. It jacks up your hydro bill, but you don't have to worry about running out of gas. That truck will look nice when it is cleaned up. The patina is just right. Thanks for sharing.👍👍

      Andy's Dog House
      ... I have a Miller plasma cutter and it's about right for this type of stuff. I doubt you'd notice the difference on your electric bill because it only draws when you pull the trigger. Basically you'd be doing a job for an hour but the actual "buzz time" is measured in 5-10 second bursts, so only a few minutes. Where you do notice is the increase due to light, heat, compressor time. My last project vehicle ran about $125 a month in extra utilities because I did it in the winter and was heating the garage during the evenings, not to mention using a LOT of compressed air.

    • @AndysDogHouse
      @AndysDogHouse 3 роки тому

      @@rupe53 I am working on mine during the winter and the extra $$ that it costs me for heat hydro etc is worth the enjoyment that I get from working on my 1954 Fargo 1/2 ton. Drop over and see what is going on in my shop.🍁👍👍

      @@AndysDogHouse ... absolutely worth the $$$ to see the results. Just saying the welder and cutter are probably only $5 - $10 out of the increased costs. My last project was a 64 Corvair panel van.

You can chop them off flush with the front of the tires. I put a s10 in my 52 fleetline and ending up being a nightmare. This setup would solved all my issues.

    I don't know if it's the same where you are, but axle assemblies are around $100 USD so if the stock rear end is too narrow, the 4x4 rear is 4" wider overall and the ZR2 (8.625/disc brakes on the later models) is 8" wider than the 2wd. Perch spacing should be the same, AFAIK.

    Back in the eighties I bought a Toyota 4x4 mini truck. They were low on power so people were putting Weber carbs and headers on them. Didn’t help much. Then some went with the Buick V6 in it. Better but you had to install and automatic which was terrible for the down run when rock crawling. I went with a 289 HO SB Ford and T176 manual. Custom bellhousing, oil pan and trans/transfer adapter, solid pinion spacer rear torque arm and radiator just to mention a few things. Too much work now but was hot back then. I lit them up in front of the dealership a few times. A salesman once told me that if there was a guy looking at a truck when I did that, they sold a truck. He wasn’t going to say their truck couldn’t do that.

      Have you ever seen a Fortotoya? LOL!
      Went to a truck show with it and a guy said “I didn’t know Toyota had them with a V8. I took that as a compliment”. I got the very first Torsen differentials for mini trucks from TRD. They were prototypes and they were cut billet. Subsequent units were powdered metal gears which failed with the power of a four banger. I had them front & rear. Once, I lined up to do a hill climb and everyone was laughing at the little gutless wonder. I had good mufflers and by all accounts it looked stock except for a 3” lift. None of others could get to the top with their over shocked, V8 rigs. When my turn came, I started in second with four roster tails and had to stand on the brakes near the top to not launch it off the hill. No one was laughing...except me.

      @@joepacheco4038 ... I said the same thing, especially when I saw it was an LS motor instead of a Vortec. Of course I noticed it was a V-8, not a V-6 and that's what got me to looking closer.

    Couldn't you have moved the diff back on the s10 frame and built new mounts for the cab/bed/front clip? Wheelbase was only off by 9" or so...

      yeah I thought about it but In the end it's less work really, don't have to make running board brackets, box mounts, cab mounts and what not. When you clip you just need to make the rad support mount and done really. I've done both but I find I can do the clip way faster than a complete chassis swap.
