Restoration of an Abandoned 1950 Chevy. Budget Rebuild from Scrap Iron to Patina Shop Truck

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Today we are attempting to restore the parts truck for the Chicken Truck. This truck is a 1950 Chevy 3800 1 ton that has sat abandoned since 1977. Will we be able to resurrect it or will it have to be sent to the crusher?

Hey cool. At least this got all those old parts off the ground and in one place. lols. Should make a good work truck like it once was. Thanks for the video.
I too love the long beds good show
It's been a bad week for me. Thanks for cheering me up.
Glad the video could cheer you up and I hope things get better for you!
❤ you really do great work. Enjoy watching you. Thanks.😂
The dramatic fender tumble replays, along with the slo-mo finally, was artfully done. Thanks for the great videos!
Glad you liked it! Haha
Kyle is the last of the real hot-rodders. This was a superb project and a great parts truck!

I heard the rod knock but didn't want to say anything and spoil it for others. I don't have any friends and busses don't come anywhere near my compound but I have a 67 Cadillac hearse and a big Ford ambulance. I could make a sweep down to the nursing home in civilization and pick up a few "viewers". Joseph and Mary send their love. Mary enjoys your show so much she makes me play it for her when I leave or go out to the shop. She just loves watching them over and over with Joseph. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. We always look forward to them.
I'm looking forward to gaining some new viewers from your local nursing home! Glad to hear the show is keeping Joseph and Mary entertained!
Someday, (not necessarily anytime soon), that coat should find it’s place in the Canadian Museum of History. 👍💯 for the channel.
I have been trying to donate it to the Smithsonian for the past 2 years, but they won't return my calls.
@@CarterAutoRestyling When you look like the closet thing to a Canadian hillbilly, all the Americans think of are guns not hammers and dolly's in your back pocket. Stick to good ole Canadian museums of if going States side maybe a shadowy corner of Jay Leno's garage?
I think this video launches you into the ranks of top restorers on the internet, Kyle!! Thanks!!
I kept waiting for that rod to make an appearance through the side of the block. Looking forward to this project

11:19 Human portapower! That's the funniest thing I've seen all day. Those old 9 footers are so funny looking, and I love them. There aren't too many around today. I'm waiting at the bus stop now, it will be here in 6 minutes, prepare for the views....
PortaKyle!
Glad you got a laugh and thanks for the help!
Kyle that spider delete procedure is genius,,, I’m going to use that the first chance I get.
Just make sure you do it before soaking all the bolts with penetrating oil to avoid an epic fire....ask me how I know.
The spiders last act of defiance before being cremated . May the memory of Boris and Ziggy live on .
Would love to see you tear down the 235 and see if it could be fixed. Seems to crank and run very well except for the knock. Love to see you working on these old trucks.
Strong's Garage has poured Babbitt bearings, as I'm sure Kyle knows.

I dig the truck! That engine knock has quite the beat but I don’t think you could dance to it. It’ll be neat to see that rig and the chicken truck comparison.
Your skill and enthusiasm are at a bar most can only appreciate!
Thanks for the donation Mark, very kind of you to help out!!!
Pretty fun to see a long bed one of these! Always fun to see you toss one of these together. Not hurtiing anything to play with something that otherwise was headed to the razor blade farm. GG
I really enjoyed seeing you bring that back from the dead. Glad you are keeping it. Nice work.
Are you a submissive slave or Sissy?
I don't really know why I like watching these videos so much as I'm never going to restore one of these old trucks - impossibly expensive over here in the UK. I first subscribed as I wanted to learn about panel beating - and I have learned a lot. I guess I'm now an addict.
Great vid bro. Loved it !!! Always enjoy watching you work sir !!!! Your skills are unmatched. 💯💯💯💯
Thank you for the shout out Kyle. You have really given your neighbor hood an automotive atmosphere. Your PDR side job should take off after this video.
I also love the old larger trucks. Mine is a 53 Dodge 2 ton all stock but for the 2008 Dodge dually bed. I would like to see in a future video how you would fix the back of the cab low down and the rear floor where it ties in. You plug welded chicken truck but said that was not the way it should be done. Keep 'em coming.
Best Ray J.
I had a buddy who was all excited about winning a 51 AD truck on ebay. When he showed me the pictures I commented on how the seller took all the pictures from a specific angle to hide the fact that it had a 9ft bed. He had no idea and thought he had bought a short bed half ton. He listed it for sale the day it was delivered, he just couldn't handle the awesomeness of the 9ft bed. It came out of Saskatchewan actually.
Farm truck 👍👍🇨🇦
Can haul plywood plus, just isn’t wide enough, haha
that's not a bad looking truck she's a keeper mate

Having the front sheet metal off sure makes working on the engine a lot easier.
Ok that lead work in the bottom of the door was magical
Are you a submissive slave or Sissy?
I'm seeing alot of bits and pieces going on her that you "restored" in other videos. She's a beaut Clark! It's perfect use of the "junkyard" parts to create running and rolling yard art. Keep up the good work brother. Hope this covers the oil.
Thanks Bill! That does help a lot!
Nice looking long bed. You never seize to amaze me with bringing bent metal back into shape
@@JeffKopis I looked it up. And both words can be used to describe a thing that has stopped moving
it's wonderful that you can be outside in a t-shirt right now!
Yep the ole nod rocking surprised it started but you the 50s chevy man
Sometimes not being perfect is perfect.

Good day. I saw one of those long bed boxes on a custom COE job. Very cool. Smitty
Blue heaven , great song , but I'm old . good video Kyle....

That truck turned out pretty cool n I remember my Dad coming home with a truck like that but had an old Camper shell on it in like 1968 when I was 5 yrs old n he pull a little boat on a trailer with it too
Also the best music of any tube videos !!! Perfect !
Maybe a bit of BIG BAND music from the era would be tasteful as well 😊
Killer 1 ton ! ❤❤❤❤
she is a beast!!! probably would take 3 pallets of bricks.
I think it looks cool as hell
Rare too!! I've only seen 1 or 2 others. My family of 7 came west to Oregon in a 1960 Studebaker Lark and a 1952 Chev 1/2 ton in 1963. Dad had that truck loaded, and I rode with him most of the way. It was a great truck!
I love your new fast-and-furious approach to a project.... Exciting! YAY!!! A work of art... I think you are on to something!
You never cease to amaze me… your body work, metal work is fantastic.
Are you a submissive slave or Sissy?
That's a really cool truck. Looking forward to seeing this and the chicken truck progress. It's amazing to see you whip the body panels that most people would scrap into very usable shape.
I once patched an old Chevy strait six pickup with a horrible rod knock by removing the rod and piston. I put a hose clamp around the crankshaft to block the oil passageway to maintain pressure. It actually ran great on 5 cylinders ! With the rear end gear ratio, I never missed the loss in horsepower. Great vid Kyle. But then I enjoy Shed by the Tracks too !!!
UA-cam just asked me if I found this video enjoyable. Made me rank it on a scale of angry to happy faces. I gave it a happy face and chose the informative option. Be prepared for the many views that will soon follow. Can’t speak for the likes cause that’s on you but if it matters I hit the ole thumbs up button lol. Cheers Kyle 🍻
Hahaha thanks!
I love the spider delete that is excellent
Kyle, you're a good noise in today's monotone world.
Kyle admire your dedication. Keeping the oldies going, great job🇿🇦
Looking forward to seeing more. 👍😎✌️❤️ cheers
A tractor that can be driven to town for supplies. Excellent plan in my opinion.
I've seen fuel pumps make a knocking sound. Unbolt it from the block and see what happens. It's worth a shot...
Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧
I love your style your attitude and above all else your sense of humor. Your channel is great! I’ve got a 47 one ton with those extra little windows. One of these days I’ll get to work on it and put it back on the road. Thanks
You have a great talent for taking a heap of junk and turning into a different heap of junk - but one that's usable. Best wishes.
And there's another episode of Carter's High-Speed Resorations in the books!

I love those front tires!

More Chicken truck! And more CAR quality control.
Are you a submissive slave or Sissy?
I love that truck! Yes, keep the shop patina. It would look like sh-t all dolled up. Also, you have the best music on UA-cam.
God I wish you were close to kentucky. I just pulled a good 6cyl and closed driveline from a 37 chevy that's hemming up my tractor shed I would happily donate. Argg!!!! Love your real world real life project videos!!!❤❤❤
Wow. Way to dress it up quick.
Impressive.
Cool truck
That is a sweetheart truck ! Your plan to just get the mechanicals tip top and use it is spot on !
I forwarded your video to as many decoupage enthusiests, nail salon patrons, and salsa dances as I could think of.
Hahaha thanks, I hope they will enjoy it!
Good to see the Taxi-Cab yellow fenders in the shape one would find them on a cab.
Wow! Chicken Truck’s Big Brother. Congratulations Kyle you knocked this episode out of the park. You knocked my socks with your skills. Don’t let the condition of the engine knock you down. We have all spent time at the school hard knocks. Before you came along, that truck was knocking at heaven’s door. If the truck was a ‘35, you could knock on wood.
I love the 9 ft bed trucks I have a 47 dodge 9 ft.. thanks for saving this one.
Thanks, for keeping, another nice old truck from the crusher 😊, Great work
Great video ! Thanks for another , Brother !
8:08 - cant say i heard it …. Once you drove it , the truck wreaks of history !! Gotta love it
My Dad had a 47 1 ton. Bought it new right after WW2 ended.
It had the same box but with the 46 cab. It helped run a homestead for 25 years.
The wooden body on the 35 was built by "Coach builders".
Very cool! I like the 46 style cabs!
Gotta love it when you put us in the 'back seat' and take us for a drive! 😆
I saw the way your neighbor shunned you as she picked up her pace walking by. Congratulations, that's exactly the response I've cultivated with people in my area. It was a Rootin-Tootin video even if it was a little light on cat content. Thanks.
Bummer for the rod knock. It runs nice! I would look into fixing it.
nothing more therapeutic than working with my hands in my nice and quit peaceful garage, no rush. nice job bro.
Haha convince yourself it's a diesel that engine will be fine..
Love the videos buddy
Keep kicking ass my friend!!
Thanks Mark!
BTW that seat might the nicest one you have. It actually had some fabric left. I thought all of them came with just rusty springs
You do such good work..I enjoy it so much. This is a rare steel long bed ton..I remember seeing them when I was young. Chevrolet also built a stake bed pickup..they were so pretty..
I used to think that you just can't save them all when it comes to old cars and trucks but what you do makes me question that. It amazing what you can do with a rusty piece of tin.
Another fine specimen
I am totally surprised there wasn't a GM build sheet , to bad. Love how you make something out of next to nothing . Turning dog doo into honey.
Eeewwwww!!!!😂
LOVE THAT TRUCK Kyle! FYI.... At the 33 minute mark, I think I can see your neighbor waving to you..... with one finger for some reason.
Haha I live in a friendly neighborhood!
wonderful announcing, pronunciation, and english... thank you
That engine is just fine. You really do need a good shifter knob. A croquet ball would look great
You are very talented and funny.
Thanks!
nice bumper
Bugger what anybody says I think your brill me old Squirrel.Well done.
i learn something every time i watch you
Good work ! Im inpressed 1
Good job on the old truck. I used to have a 1 ton panel touch with a long wheel base and granny gear transmission and an original 265 six cylinder.
Dammit gump you've done it again! Another one saved!
You've got the right amount of sarcasam & humour to make a good Video plus a huge amount of talent, so keep up the good work Kyle 👍
Thank you John!
Glad you are keeping it. I like the 5 window long bed.
Saludos desde.middleburg.flo nice work
Always looking forward to your latest video, this was quite the deviation from the standard, thanks for not calling it a "will it run" video. I'm really getting sick of those in my feed. I really enjoy watching you preventing that old junk from going to the crusher. I am getting a jeepers creepers vibe from that advanced design... love it!!!
Heard the rod knocking right off. Age 67.
Still a cool truck, fun project.
Wow, quite an episode. I am now coming to believe that there is no truck too far gone for you to pound out, patch together, fill, sand and primer and make look good. This "channel" has been progressing well. It won't be too long until you are building a new shop. I know you'll keep up the good work, just be sure to let us in on it once in a while.
Thanks, but there's no plans to build a new shop. I still have another 15+ years to go before this one is paid for haha
Thank you patrions. I love his channel and hope for continuing videos and hopefully Kyle becomes a great UA-cam hero
Good enrough is good enough! 👍👍
Another great episode! Thank you Sir. See you next time.
A nice entry to the "waste of time olympics" . 😂
Thanks Kyle! fun episode.
The 1 tonners with 9 foot bed are a nicely proportioned truck and very useful with that bigger bed.
Was about to say knock knock but who was there to say hello
also omg the PDR joke was way too good 😂
Thank you Mr. Carter for putting this out and teaching us. Kind regards.
