I first saw this episode while I was deployed. Over the years I have watched it a million times. David has me obsessed with the idea of building a stock 49 or 50 and charging up the old inline 6. Life keeps happening so no truck yet but one day I will own pigpen
Impressive claim, but I did the math. You would have had to watch this like 300 times a day, every day for the last nine years to have watched it a million times. The problem is, there is only enough time in one 24 hour period to watch a 24 minute video 60 times. You would have had to watch at 5x speed continuously for nine years to reach a million. For this reason, I am doubting your claim. 😝 Still, I hope you get the truck you want. Best of luck, bro.👍🏻
Watching in June of 2022. I have a 53 GMC with the inline 6 302. Original owner was my Granddad. It still runs.. The " Jimmy" is a 5 window. I love that truck. My Granddad used it specifically for elk hunting here in Arizona for a decade and a half, then gifted it to us. My older brother drove it for a while, when he was in high school here in the mid seventies, then I drove it in the late 70's. It has a special order from the factory 2 ton drive train, 4 speed with an incredibly low or first "granny gear". The ol' girl won't go over 60 mph because of the gear ratio. Its was painted in 1978 a specific Chevrolet/ GMC color " corvette orange flame". The grill, bumper and all badging was professionally chromed in 78'. Great video ! I'm extremely sentimental about this truck as the family history that surrounds it
My grandpa has a 51 GMC which has been parked since '86. He's told me as long as I can remember the truck is mine I just need to get it home. You'd be surprised how far down the list 'is the exhaust plugged' is when you're troubleshooting an engine. In my case, it was a muffler that had filled with water and frozen on a diesel engine, but it wouldn't run at all, so that helped push the thought processes along and I figured it out in about 2 hours. When an engine doesn't run, the thought is 'do we have fuel, air, and spark?' I want to fix up a junkyard vehicle one day. No idea why, but I just love beater vehicles. Where others see rust and scrap, I see beauty and history...ehh, I don't really know why but who cares. Don't know exactly what specific vehicle I'd look for, but maybe a Peugeot 205 or a Ford Aerostar or something. But anyway, this is why I love this show, they go out to these junkyards and give vehicles which would probably otherwise never ever be roadworthy again and they give them new life. That and I'm a fan of human ingenuity, I love it when people improvise and get creative and do the kinds of things they do on this show. The dead coyote makes me sad and I have to look away every time the show starts, but though the death of such a beautiful being is indeed upsetting it's nature and in a way it's like the cars on the show, it too gets new life...not in the same way the cars, but in general something at least came of it. Kills me all the cool projects these guys do on worthless rustbuckets, and in a way it inspires me, it makes me want to do it myself one day. I don't think I would want my 205 or Aerostar all butchered up and whatnot like the Rotsun they did, I'd want to clean it up and make it nice and sporty, but still.

it looks like the front fender has the dual side marker lights on there like the firebirds had but it is blurry. Is there something on it that u can see that makes it a camaro?
So as a swede.. I'm considering travel to US.. do this on a junkyard, having it put in papers and export the thing home - and having the most insane background story for a truck ever....
Road kill and Road Kill Garage reminds me of every busted, rusted, and dusted hand-me-down vehicle I've ever had, and I've had some winners. My son's are amazed at how I can fix cars and then I tell them how I never had a nice car until I was in my thirties. Me and the local tow truck driver were on a first name basis for years.
Robertas Bukantis I don't mind Hot Rod Garage, TBH, given that it's basically them saying 'this is the show we had to make to stop our sponsors suing us for not actually advertising their wares in our normal content'. It's still fun and has interesting content, they just give their sponsors a few minutes a show, and Davids attempts to use the sponsors products have been...hilarious. Especially his rather surprised sounds when they seem to do what they claim to....which honestly, is better than having a spokesdroid do it. Some of Drives more recent stuff does feel neutered, especially the televised stuff I've seen. It feels like UK Top Gear. I watched drive because it *wasn't* like UK Top Gear. Sort of took the shine off for me.
This video is the only reason I'm studying mechanic cos it looks so cool that your fixing something and you can be happy at the end of the day cos you fixed something. Thank u guys, u made me find what I wanna do as my job FOREVER
Funny thing is it wasn’t crank case pressure if you watch the newer episodes it had a kink in the exhaust system and that was exhaust flowing back through the engine
they found it in the harry tow episode, and it was why it was smoking out the valve covers, because the exhaust gas was forcing it's way through the piston rings.
"We gonna change all of the fluids" WOW, how seldom it is heard from similar videos. Many just put battery, fuel and do all to kill the engine. Thank you for not doing that )
Even though it didn't get all the way home, it's still satisfying to see it run and drive within a week of work - keen to see it go against the Muscle Truck
One of the best moments was watching that truck pull out of that spot it's been sitting in it looked happy and I am pretty weird probably people think but I think the truck has feelings ha ha
Mike Finnegan Got to use oil made for a diesel engine in those old, flat tappet engines. Oil for modern cars doesn't have enough phosphorus and zinc in it (screws up catalytic converters). Been using straight 30 weight All Fleet Plus Valvoline in my '46 with a '54 235 for over 60,000 miles w/o issue.
I was hoping to see them convert this to four wheel drive or something, put a cummins in it now that there sponsored by dodge >:) that would of been cool
Jason Brunk Well, not entirely--according to what they were saying in the video, there's a whole bunch of period correct mod parts for the engine in it, so I would love to see it done up with said parts and have that straight six running good!
Did he say $2000??? I love the adventure, and think its so cool what they do. If I ever have money to burn id do the same thing, looks like a great time! But come on, 2k is insane.. even if they guy sourced their new parts...
In Canada yeah but Southern from a junkyard... shoulda been 5-700 Bucks. If running in that condition 2-3k. But thats pretty crappy if the guy charged them for it as a "running' Truck, they made it run... That was my point.
Ian Thompson I'm with you. They over paid. Seems like they expected $700. It was a probably a agreed price before they started, then the rat bastard changed his mine once he saw it run.
misfit77 The $700 dollars that they mentioned is most likely to pay for all of their tools. Freiburger and Finnegan fly to all of their locations for Roadkill and you aren't allowed to take tools on airplanes in America. If you go back and watch all of the Roadkill episodes, they mention the fact that they have to buy all new tools for every episode. And $2000 is a bargain for what the car is NOW worth, because there are now a ton of people that would pay a lot for that truck simply because it has been on the show!
Don't think that way... If you really want and work hard I mean if you organize / plan your life you can achieve everything you want... for now just keep dreaming, that's a good start......

Sort of took the shine off for me.
does anyone watch these videos more than once? I always do
I have seen.1 of those remodeled, looks great with a 454!!!
Me I have had two of watch this like probably ten thousand times so far like it's a thing you go through all the other episodes over and over again
8th time watching this one
Yep on my fourth run through for all of them
Alejandro Munoz alsways
I would love to have that old Chevy. Everything rusts completely through up here in PA. My 2000's frame is on its last legs after a patch.
This video is the only reason I'm studying mechanic cos it looks so cool that your fixing something and you can be happy at the end of the day cos you fixed something.
Thank u guys, u made me find what I wanna do as my job FOREVER
19:33 is the reason the truck died.. look at the kinked exhaust, caused them all sorts of problems. sometimes the obvious is hard to diagnose.
+RC Codes damn you beat me to it i was gonna say the same!
I was going to say the same the thing.
Yeah I can't believe they didn't see that. Hopefully they make it run again.
+M Astley in the tow truck vid you saw them fix it unless you didint see the vid
+Rambo the epic 679 how about you say video rather than vid?
Funny thing is it wasn’t crank case pressure if you watch the newer episodes it had a kink in the exhaust system and that was exhaust flowing back through the engine
Ni
I still love this episode and after watching Harry the wrecker I always see that bent exhaust
This iiiiiiiiii
You guys are amazing !
Nowhere in the world do you get this type of ingenuity and determination.
Great Job !
" It's not even smoking! " 😂🙌🏽. classic. was pinched shut
When you come back a few months later;
"It doesn't even smoke!"
There's a reason for that. 19:33 for the eagle eyed.
Yeah, they showed the problem but somehow didn't catch the problem.
Big_Adam_2050 hi
I was totally looking for it and just saw. How did so many fans, editors, and people miss this?!
they found it in the harry tow episode, and it was why it was smoking out the valve covers, because the exhaust gas was forcing it's way through the piston rings.
Big_Adam_2050 p
I love you guys
Mike has me in tears on every show
I love this show. Episodes like this are great. American ingenuity at its best.
I wonder if you can hear angelic voices singing as you drive through the entrance.
+James Demos "Glory, Glory, Halleujah! His truth goes marching on..."
Maybe?
I can't help it. I love junkyards and all the history they hold.
1950s GMC trucks fires right up after sitting and rotting for all those years. Now that is some good ol' American engineering right there.
Yeah, lets see a honda do that! The frame wouldn't be able to hold the motor
James Whisenhunt
Honda would probably start with less work and not need a rebuild.
James Whisenhunt All a Honda would need is a battery to start. Engine may fall out...but that's not the point lol.
misfit77 there is no alive honda on junkyard even from '80s
Bozo Pavlusec For some unknown reason I'd like to get my hands on a '74 civic. had three of them in the '70s.
i just dropped everything i was doing because i saw the roadkill video, for the next 24 minutes everything can fuck off!
A lil rude budy
Literally heaven, I could be there for weeks just checking out the cars. I wish there was something like this in Australia.
- It rolls!
- That's true.
- Does it stop?
- I don't care... :D
Zahari Stoyanov lol
All cars stop, eventually
LoL
I got to sit in one of these today and absolutely fell in love. I've started trying to find one.
if still needed, try classic truck rescue. they are on youtube too.
"We gonna change all of the fluids"
WOW, how seldom it is heard from similar videos.
Bobby V old cars have character and personality, at least the good ones do.
19:35 you can see the kinked exhaust that gets them later.
That's most likely the reason it was parked to be honest
Can we like get the rest of roadkill back on UA-cam as much as I like rewatching this one I miss watching the other ones
Thank you so much!!!! One of my favorite episodes!!!!! A Roadkill Classic!!!!! Thanks for sharing. You made my night.
What I find amazing is how they are so close and in person with the exhaust system, but never saw the kink.
Amazing series very entertaining
I need more of this kind of Roadkill, please!! The last four episodes have veered away from this stuff, I think.
You guys are amazing and so entertaining! Love from down under🇦🇺
19:36 you can actually see where the exhaust is pinched
Love it. Royal Purple into an engine that they don't even know runs. Lol
Haha I noticed that too. I would've used used some non-synthetic and changed the oil twice on that thing
Mike Finnegan Ah gotcha, great episode guys! It's good to see pigpen saved.
Mike Finnegan
Got to use oil made for a diesel engine in those old, flat tappet engines. Oil for modern cars doesn't have enough phosphorus and zinc in it (screws up catalytic converters). Been using straight 30 weight All Fleet Plus Valvoline in my '46 with a '54 235 for over 60,000 miles w/o issue.
David B
they didn't have time for that , Finnegan had to get home for his wife's hair appointment, lol
David B you need to study some chemistry, there is neither phosphorus or zinc in diesel oil. now Zinc di-akyl di- thio-phosphates, different
19:36 the muffler pipe is bent shut thats why it quit in the end
@Phillip Holstein
You an actually see it in this video though.
Phillip Holstein the issue with that comment is if he came from the Harry tow episode how would he know the time stamp?
Always straight pipe 😎
Surprised they didnt catch that while running brake lines
Yup. Exhaust was closed off...they actually sold pigpen right after harry episode to a staff member
Great, great job guys. The 52 ish GMC or Chevy trucks were the neatest looking ever. Learned a lot just watching this.
I feel like if the jimmy 6 was taken out of Pigpen a part of the auto world would die. The originality of this truck is part of its charm.
FINALLY someone who thinks like me!
Favorite show on you tube
i wish we can see it in another episode...
Ahmad Mohanna me too, I think they should put another motor in it
Ahmad Mohanna we will...
Jayden
hi
Harry tow episode. Ep 2 to this whole ordeal.
James Alcorn same
god i miss the OG roadkill stuff
Why hasn't
the gmc returned on roadkill yet?
Gavin Cayan I think they sold it to one of their crew members like a lot of their cars.
I was hoping to see them convert this to four wheel drive or something, put a cummins in it now that there sponsored by dodge >:) that would of been cool
I was literally JUST thinking the same thing.
Gavin Cayan Its a GMC. Not a Dodge.
If its GM, put an LS motor in it.
Jason Brunk Well, not entirely--according to what they were saying in the video, there's a whole bunch of period correct mod parts for the engine in it, so I would love to see it done up with said parts and have that straight six running good!
Favorite episode. By far.
Then there's the rat rod bell air episodes
How can people dislike this show? :D
Holy crud how could you not be fully 100% committed to a beautiful old truch like that that just started and ran for you like that
Did he say $2000??? I love the adventure, and think its so cool what they do. If I ever have money to burn id do the same thing, looks like a great time! But come on, 2k is insane.. even if they guy sourced their new parts...
in canada that thing would go for 3800-4000 no rust is a big deal
Totally agree. When you can do the wrenching and have a decent budget it's doesn't seem as bad, though.
In Canada yeah but Southern from a junkyard... shoulda been 5-700 Bucks. If running in that condition 2-3k. But thats pretty crappy if the guy charged them for it as a "running' Truck, they made it run... That was my point.
Ian Thompson
I'm with you.
I hate looking at these beautiful junkyards knowing I’m never going to be able to go there
plane ticket to fresno is cheap and they will let you walk around the yard every time im in fresno I always stop by turners
Why not ??? I've managed it.. worked 2 years for tickets to fly to the USA, started from N.Y. to California in 3 weeks by car..
Junkyards near me basically strip the parts n smash the car .. Theyre mostly interested in metal recycling.
It's a junkyard. Not space.... If you have this mentality now, you're in for a rough life....
Don't think that way... If you really want and work hard I mean if you organize / plan your life you can achieve everything you want... for now just keep dreaming, that's a good start......
LOL at 19:56 "does it stop?" "I dont care"
I was impressed from the moment it fired up the first time, anything after that was just icing on the cake!
11:05 "IT'S NOT EVEN SMOKING"......i wonder why....
Benjamin Ewald หัตถชัย แซ่เหล่า
03:50 Brazilian beetle... Fusca 😁🤘🏼
''we need a plan''
''why? its roadkill'' xDDD
Really enjoyed.. I love watching ppl restoring the junkies.. N this is one of the best I have seen..
