WWF Rage in The Cage was released for the Sega CD add-on, a game that played very similar to previous WWF titles "WWF Super WrestleMania" and "WWF Royal Rumble". At the time, Rage in the Cage had the largest WWF Roster available in any game, it featured full motion video for the very first time in a wrestling game, and it also included ring announcing from Howard Finkel along with wrestler taunts before matches. This, really, is where the new content stopped. WWF Rage in the Cage should have been a wrestling game that took full advantage of the hardware it ran on, but instead, it ended up as one of those things you didn't really miss out on if you didn't own it.

I remember traveling to the U.S. trying to find this game with my grandfather, he must have taken me to 6-7 different stores and to no avail, unfortunately. One of the few wrestling games I never got to play. The Sega CD as a whole, however, was probably the shittiest investment I ever made in terms of a video game console, lol.

Always thought the Sega CD was a very well-made system especially the Sega CDX. I own a Sega CDX back in the early 90s is basically a 3 and one console a Genesis, Sega CD and a portable CD player and hell, even had double A batteries with it as well so you could carry the portable CD player around with ya

Did you have the Lunar games, or Snatcher? Willy Beamish? If you liked RPG/Adventure games it was pretty awesome.
Tony Flores, I think I base my opinion strictly on the fact that when I got the system in the 90's it was already a dying breed, and the games I got to play like "Sewer Shark" were very underwhelming. One game I did enjoy thoroughly was "Eternal Champions", but I never really had the opportunity to experience many games on this particular system.

But I do understand where you coming from especially you living in another country must be extra hard to find a decent game out there. Sonic cd, Mickey's Mania, Mortal Kombat, Eternal champions, heart of an alien/ out of this world, Prize fighter (boxing),NHL 94, Android assault, who shot Johnny Rock and Vay are usually the ones that you wanted to play back then but the rest of others were pretty heinous too
But just like the video says that the Sega CD / Mega CD was very very expensive when it came out. I think the Sega CDX came out it was about over at least $400 but now these days collectors considered antique now and now they're selling for almost at least $1,200 for collectors

It's pretty ridiculous just how many times Sculptured Software had come out with the same wrestling game over so many years. WWF Superstars 2, WWF Wrestlemania Steel Cage Challenge, WWF Super Wrestlemania, WWF Royal Rumble, WWF Rage In The Cage, WWF Raw were all damn near identical. IRS had the best finisher in the game with the "Write Off".

Same here, and another little tidbit he forgot is that the game uses the same title screen music as "WWF Royal Rumble" the SNES version at least, so they could have at least come up with different title screen music at least.

Bossman's last appearance was Royal Rumble 93 and this came out in December 93, he just barely snuck in there.

I own and still play both Royal Rumble and Rage in the Cage. I prefer them to raw and WrestleMania

I would have loved to get a combination of WWF Raw (32X), WWF Royal Rumble (from both Genesis & SNES), & WWF Rage in the Cage combined with all modes & characters.
I think that it wouldn't have been possible with RAW, as RAW added moves, animations, and changes. HOWEVER....i'm 100 percent on board we need a mod that combines the Genesis/SNES Rumbles (how do you not have Hogan and Flair IN THE SAME GAME, plus Genesis didnt have Yokozuna?!) the 32X exclusive Kwang, and the roster from Rage in the Cage. Im actually even fine leaving out the cage elements, just get them into the Rumble game, complete with tag matches so we can do nasty boys vs. headshrinkers or Money Inc vs. The Mega Powers. All of those aforementioned games besides raw ran on the exact same engine.
@@prayeronestart994 Not to forget put the Give Up Animation from Raw in to it for Submission Finishers like the Sharpshooter, Boston Crab, Million Dollar Dream, Cranium Crush and Figure 4 Leg Lock. Pin holds for the Perfect Plex, Banzai Drop, Headshrinkers Splash, Kamala Splash, 123 Kid Moonsault, Whoopie Cushion and maybe the Tombstone to.😉
I remember being a kid going to blockbuster really wanting to play this game. I was so sold on that cage. I already had RAW on Sega at the time. Glad to have watched this video to see it wasn't all that after all these years. Lol

Another nostalgic video. I remember going to FuncoLand trying to buy this with my elder brothers but it was gone. We settled on Spider-Man vs King Pin which only worked for two days...god I hated Sega CD
I never had any issues with games not working on mine. Although honestly, I never used mine much as there weren't many games I wanted to play.
All this game was is The 3rd installment of the Wrestlemania title. And all I wanted was wrestlefest at home.

Funny timing, was checking it out on MAME just a few days ago. I use to play it on dad's old Sega CD, but haven't played it since I was a little girl, and forgot how to pin. Somehow, still managed to push the right buttons. 😉😂

Bruce King..idk . 3DO was out. PC gaming, SEGA cd was a bomb. It was 16 bit games but smoother. Or FMV & make a video games. Was a huge bomb

I used to play this back when I was kid in the 90s. Great Times.
An early blurb I saw in a magazine mentioned there would be 24 wrestlers as opposed to the 20 we ended up with. I can only assume the remaining four were Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Papa Shango and Jim Duggan, the only four characters from the Royal Rumble games to not be in this game.
Also, Royal Rumble for SNES was originally supposed to have 14 characters as opposed to 12. One of the two removed characters was Kamala, as we know from the images scanned from a magazine showing him in it. The other may have been IRS (who was on the Sega roster but not SNES). He was planned at one point, based on a screenshot I saw of what was then known as “Super WrestleMania 2.” It showed two dummy characters with energy bars that said Mr. Perfect and IRS. I’ll submit the picture to the game’s prerelease page on TCRF.

I remember playing this years ago. I always thought that they originally intended to include tag team matches which is why The Nasty Boys and Money Inc were in the game but for some reason they cut the tag team match option out of the finished game.

I owned this game in the UK. I was the only kid in my class that owned a Sega CD. Was a good game I only preferred Dracula unleashed and Snatchers and that’s only for their storylines

This was my era as a kid. Had the Nes games when I was a bit younger. Loved Wrestlemania Challenge.
Even though the 16 but games were button mashers. They seemed fun at the time. I got a SEGA CD for Xmas when I was 11. And rented Rage the next week. At 11 i remember I think,it seemed fun, just for the ability to play as other wrestlers.
I’d LOVE to see a video on WWF War Zone or Attitude, as these were the earliest Moments of 3D wrestling games. They seemed amazing at the time. There was a 32 bit game prior to both called Power Move Pro Wrestling, that I remember enjoying. It was a Japanese port.

I beat this game not long ago in tournament mode with Rick "The Model" Martel. Video footage of the ending is on my channel. Will say I did enjoy playing it. Hint of advice. Definitely use the 6-button controller, and it REALLY helps to use a controller that has turbo switches. No constant button mashing required, and makes the game more enjoyable in my opinion.
I got a Sega CD after I got 32X because it was on super sale for “only” $150 lol. But by that time it was hard to find the games. As you and I both know it was hard to find used games back then. I think Funcoland was around but I didn’t have one by my house back then. I always wanted to play this game…I played Raw and Royal Rumble but this game eluded me unfortunately. Great video I always wondered! I had Raw for 32X with the “best” exclusive character: Kwang (Savio Vega)!! It baffled me so much how they choose him over so many

@@Skazellino: IRS agility was pretty underrated as well check out SummerSlam 92 when him and the million dollar man went against the Road Warriors and IRS performed very well in that match

IRS was always one of my favorite guys, I was a big fan of his and Money Inc. I first started liking him around Survivor Series 91. He was definitely highly underrated. A moment I always hated was when he got robbed after he won the IC title off Ramon at Rumble 94. They restart the match but don't tell IRS and Ramon just grabs him off the turnbuckle while he has his back turned celebrating and does the Razor's Edge for the finish, booo. I loved when Money Inc. was formed as I was a DiBiase fan as well and especially excited when they knocked off LOD for the tag straps via IRS using the briefcase, I wish there was footage of that house show match but all we had was an update on WWF Superstars. Money Inc. also beat the Mega Maniacs at Wrestlemania 9 and the Steiner Bros. later in 1993. Their track track record was solid!

Awesome video as always. I loved Royal Rumble on sega as a kid even thought I didn't watch WWF yet but I thought it was cool that scott hall, Hogan, and macho man were in it since I watched WCW. Cool thing about this game is it is the only game I can remember to use the 6 button controller's MODE button and it was used to switch out tag team partners in a 6 man tag

Idk if Wrestling Bios will read this but just wanted to compliment his improvement of cadence over the years. Wanted to go back and see some of the old game videos, and I noticed he talks slower, a bit more cautiously. Now he talks very confidently and faster and I honestly think he's perfect as a content creator speaking over his videos!

Great video and i just picked this up for nostalgia. I really enjoyed the LJN WWF games, and it'll be fun to fire up every now and again. Kamala is absolutely my favorite character exclusive here, woulda liked to get him in Royal Rumble for either Genesis or SNES. Headshrinkers would've been a great edition to RAW to face off against Diesel and HBK. And RAW should've had the cage, as it came out in 1994, right after the epic Bret Hart vs Owen Hart cage match. Plus the Steiners/Money Inc had just had a banger cage match on free tv a year prior when RAW was being developed.

I rented a Sega CD and Rage in the Cage. Had a great time staying up late with my friend playing the game. That was my only experience with it, a one night rental. I played Raw a lot, though.
I loved the entrance music on select screen it was nostalgic

Not really any reason why the video clips for this game look so shitty. They had perfectly fine quality source material to work with. The MegaDrive / Genesis had a limited color palette, but not THAT limited. Maybe it was just developer limitations or storage limitations on the CD. There was a lot of space on the CD (especially for the time), but most of it was used by CD audio tracks since they didn't use compressed audio files like modern consoles. A lot of wasted storage space for those SNES audio tracks, whereas on SNES it was essentially a small mod tracker file.

Would randomly love to see a video on RAVEN (personally I'd like to see full blown begining to end..including bring seen at *AEW* recently lol but even if you broke it up.. I'd personally love it! Also seeing as how *JEFF HARDY* is seeming close to returning to TV it reminds me if love to see a video of Jeff Hardy's over all TNA/IMPACT run.. although doing Jeff Hardy by the years makes more sense like your Undertaker videos. I heard about this game it was basically royal rumble with more new characters never played it but this game always intrigued me because of the steel cage.

I always wanted to play this game but to this day I still haven't played it. I didn't ever get a sega CD. I remember the Nasty Boys and the Head Shrinkers were in this game and it was the first time and only time they were ever in a wrestling game so the roster alone and the picture of the the wrestlers on the cover got me excited plus there were steel cage matches in it which weren't the most common back then.
Like most Sega CD games, it had some basic enhancements over a Genesis game, and that was it. What a waste.

Oh man, I have this on my shelf. Never played it as much as Royal Rumble or Raw.
Rage in the cage is basically royal rumble with a few bells and whistles thanks to the CDROM format of the mega CD.
I bring the swag like nobody can. Good game this, used to play it back in the day. The cage blocks the view of the wrestlers in the ring.
In some ways this is the most advanced version of the LJN WWF games. It would have been nice to have a Royal Rumble. I always assumed this game came out before Royal Rumble, or at least was made before Royal Rumble was(in development longer).

A lot of people actually don't know but there was originally plans to make a N64-CD upgrade too. It just never came about. Like the game cubes modem. It just didn't happen. However it's cool to see how those console developers where so ahead of there time

I had the snes growing up. Sunset riders, bomberman, super mario world, (several other Mario's also)the Simpsons barts nightmare, donkey Kong, street fighter 1 & 2 turbo. Wish I still had um, seems like an age ago...

The only thing this game has going for it, over the 16bit counterparts, is the roster and the addition of promos. That's about it.
Road Avenger, Snatcher and Sonic CD, the only games worth playing on Sega/Mega CD. Boy was I gutted when I put down a lot of money on the multi-mega CD. Least I got a portable CD player out of it... sort of.
I disagree. Batman Returns and Terminator are well worth playing on Sega CD.
I have a complete in case copy of Rage in the Cage. Got it for $5 about 10 years ago. I don't have a Sega CD, nor have I ever had one so I've only played this on an Emulator.
It's definitely a disappointment. While a Royal Rumble with the 20 man roster would have been awesome, it's the lack of any tag-team mode in my opinion that hurts the gameplay the most. It's also perplexing that they didn't include CD quality for the theme music.
Yeah the Tournament mode is a slog to get through as the ideas mentioned in the video would have at least helped mix things up a bit. I played through the Tournament mode about half a dozen times but thankfully with save-states so I didn't have to subject myself to prolonged playthroughs.
The game simply needed more. As much of a novelty as the FMV was at the time and it wasn't even good quality, would like to think if Rage in the Cage had less of it or even none; that few would have been upset about it. Sure it wouldn't show off the Sega CD hardware, but outside of the clear intro announcing by the Fink, I don't think it showed off what the hardware could do anyways.

Sega CD was where the cool RPGs were hidden. If you knew about those, you had some good times. Seems like not a lot of people figured that out though. I was playing Lunar, Shining Force CD (though that's a game that totally didn't need to be on Sega CD), Snatcher, Vay.. Adventures of Willy Beamish (I love point and click adventure games)...
I had this one, because I really liked this series of WWF games, to the point of buying the SNES AND Genesis versions of the ones with different rosters. This was my least played, for sure. Had some cool characters that weren't in the other games, but yeah, not a ton of cool stuff to do in this one, unfortunately.
I had actually help with a bunch of the ideas there was a contest that this video game magazine was holding and I had won with the ideas I won an advanced copy that was autographed by the makers. And they gave me ten other copies to give away. I was 13 at the time.
This game is still better then 2K! At least it's a finished and playable game
Sega isn’t to blame for the sega cd believe it or not. The dude who ran sega of america didnt know sega of japan were working on the sega saturn at the same time, so basically when the sega cd was launched people said sod that i’ll wait for the saturn
I had every LJN game. Never had Rage, but a friend did, I was so jealous lol. Doesn't seem like I actually missed anything.
