Awesome that you finally did a video on this. Absolutely LOVED Mayhem. It was my first wrasslin' game and it hold a special place in my heart. It may be clunky compared to games today, and was outpaced and outclassed by WWF games at the time, but its still a solid experience. The commentary track alone was had absolute gold lines in it, including Tony and Bobby bickering, Tony plugging a product called "Chork" which apparently was a combination between chicken and pork or Heenan one liners like saying the wrestler has it all backwards and that his nose runs and his feet smell. The create-a-wrestler feature was probably its highlight, with its suite serving as the template for original wrestlers that I make still to this day. Yes, its not that great even by standards at the time, but it satisfied the pallate.
Honestly, yes. It had a great roster, the gameplay wasn't as good as No Mercy but it was still fun, commentary was okay as well. Was it a 9 or 10 like the AKI N64 games? Nah. But it was a solid 7.
Me I'll give it a 7 too. But it's a good game unlike some of these like WrestleGamia which only cares about fricken graphics instead of focusing in gameplay. The gameplay was okay and it had the real music. Overall it's a good game.
I had Mayhem when it first came out. And I was enamored with the idea of going back stage and using weapons. The game IMO was super slow, and some of the special moves, wrestlers wouldn’t even sell them. It wasn’t until I got Smackdown, that I knew Mayhem wasn’t where it was at. I just wish PlayStation would’ve got a decent WCW game because I wanted to play with those wrestlers.
I never played this one. But the footage and talk about WCW vs nWo World Tour, Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy really hits in the feels. Brings me back with great memories.
This game is HORRIBLE compared tho those you mentioned. I remember this game vividly on my PS as I never had an N64 growing up which really had the best wrestling games until Smackdown
The player models in those games looked terrible. WWF Attitude looked way better than all those games. Attitude was the best looking wrestling game of the era with Mayhem a close second.

I really love this game. Awesome roster, all the music for each wrestler, good graphics for the time. Great commentary. Run ins and back stage brawls. I think WCW/NWO Revenge and WWF Smackdown are better but this is one of the better wrestling games of the time.

So I will always remember this but about WCW vs NWO: world tour. Sting had pretty much a100% chance of getting a weapon from the crowd and the only other wrestler we found who could remotely come close was Mortis.
Yep! It’s a cools detail they added in my opinion. One of the things I always did as a dumb kid was pick somebody who had a few different eye rake moves (standing and ground) and I’d wrestle against the masked characters, just eye raking them over and over, trying to remove their mask to see what their faces looked like 😂😂😂, like their actual faces would be modeled… Fun times. I think he was the first wrestler to appear in two different wrestling games by two different wrestling companies at the same time. Unless you count Bret Hart in Warzone and Revenge which I think were two months apart.
It definitely was worse than I remembered. I loved it as a kid and played it so many for hours with my brother. When Bill Goldberg came to WWE the first time after WCW was done, he had a signing at Fiesta Supermarket in the north Houston area off I-45. My brother and I begged my parents to take us and some friends to it where we sat in the sun for like 3 hours to meet him. We had him sign the game manual for WCW mayhem and backstage assault. It was absolutely worth the wait for us(I was around 12 and my brother was around 7). When we pulled out the game manuals Goldberg seemed surprised to see them. The best part was my brother asking Goldberg questions and Goldberg responded to my brother like he was the most important fan at the time. As an adult I know he wasn't the best wrestler and his matches were really predictable but as a kid we looked up to him like he was the best. The only thing I wish I could have done is meet sting and get him to sign the disk.
World Tour and Revenge was that game for me as far as memories go. When this game came out, I thought wcw was on its last limb as a company. Great vid. Thanks for the memories
I remember being so hyped for this game. Loved this game as a game. But if I remember correctly some of the finishers were missing or lacking. The Buff Blockbuster was like a stunner or something and the Scorpion Death Drop was anything but. That said, damn, you got the music and all. I loved it.
I thought Mayhem looked pretty good character model wise back in it's time. The problem for me is the T-Rex stance but their bodies had unique textures and their body proportions were decent unlike SD 1 and 2. I also liked the commentary like you mentioned. The rest of the game is pretty unremarkable, and the N64 AKI games were a much better choice.
I'd love to see you as a guest doing a full show review on OSW. Your two channels put out the best reviews with footage, along with Bryan Zane, and it's much appreciated.
This OSW & MarkyD are the only wrestling content I watch I used to watch Brian but I feel more connection to Irish/English fans because that was the culture we grew up in whereas if I watch Americans it's just a guy who used to watch wrestling you know?
Everyone of these videos have reminded me of how many wrestling games I've had when I was a pre-teen to my mid teenage years. Excluding the Smackdown games after Smackdown 2: Know Your Role.
Decent game that could have been improved on in future releases. I liked the commentary for this game, as well as the unique stage designs many of the PPVs had.

I missed this game so I installed an emulator and downloaded this. I was trying to unlock Jericho so I am always backstage and I now listen to the commentary. I'm absolutely loving the commentary when you fight backstage
According to THQ producer Sanders Keel on recent podcast, EA scooped the WCW license when they were winning the Monday Night Wars. Two weeks later THQ got the WWF license. And soon after the Monday Night Wars shifted and the WWF was on top. Sanders and THQ and AKI were disappointed and WCW was a little easier to work with, but was what it was. After No Mercy AKI wanted to work on the PS2 but THQ already had Yuke's for that. EA poached AKI and they started working on WCW Mayhem 2 which became Def Jam Vendetta after Vince bought WCW.
So happy I’ve found this channel, I Know I’ve said it before but this is great . Good to watch in the day and also good to pick a video and fall asleep listening.
I've still got this game I've not played it for many years though but I used to play this religiously in the 90s when I used to rent it from the video store I eventually bought as a teenager but I loved this when I was a kid I would play on this or attitude. I never got a chance to play N64 games until the mid 2000 as I bought my own 64 console then and I played the hell out of wcw revenge and no mercy ...thanks for the great memories there and hope you get better soon dude
Well, didn‘t expect this, actually. I totally missed the wrestling games of that era, I bought some for the Dreamcast a few years later, that ECW games and Wwe Attitude. But I never really got into them. This is a great video. Thank you very much.
I learned Santa Claus was not real through this game. I asked him for No Mercy and got Mayhem. When I brought up this wasn't what I asked for, my pops was quick to blurt out "I thought you said this one?". Busted!
The commentary on that game even on PS1 was better than anything the WWE has made on any computer system or arcade system ever! It sucks the N64 removed Bobby the Brain Heenan, that's what made the commentary so epic on PS1.
Totally get what you mean about having high quality versions of entrance themes. Back in the days before streaming and digital purchases, you were lucky to find a real media player version online and that usually had the live crowd and commentary in the background
Another awesome upload from wrestling bios, something different. I put so much time into the wrestling games on the N64 back in the day. Namely WCW VS NWO World Tour and later Wrestlemania 2000. Although I did play the other N64 wrestling games. These two were my favourites and did prefer the game play of Wrestlemania 2000 over No Mercy. PlayStation had a lot to live up too and compete against as far as wrestling games. WCW Mayhem could have been a great game. However the wrestling games on the N64 were so solid it was hard to compete. Hope you feel better soon! Shows dedication to your channel when your still giving us content even if your not feeling at your best.
I just have to say that I have been searching for the name of that Stratosphere game for going on 5 years now after playing it as a kid and having it lost to time in my memory. The thought that I would discover it in a wrestling game review is mind boggling. Love your reviews by the way watching someone talk about the AKI games got me all types of nostalgic
AT THE TIME, jeeeezz.... this game was REALLY AWESOME. It was so "REALISTIC" at the time with all the amazing camera angles and zooms. I loved it. The Commentary was beautiful too. BEST commentary in any game I feel
I remember playing Nitro, Thunder, this game and Backstage assault on the PlayStation. This was the best of the bunch, but I was always jealous when I went over to my cousin’s house and player WWF or WCW games on his N64. Just so much more fun. Still at the time, Mayhem was a fun game, especially the backstage options.
I remember renting this from Movie Gallery, playing it for about an hour, and returning it the next day. WCW didn’t release a good PS game after WCW vs The World, for me. I owned Nitro and never played it. Great video sir.
Dad had that on his PS1, and I remember he had Game Shark codes to unlock everything. Thought it was fun when I was a little girl, but lately, I played it on Emulators, and even with my PS designed controller, it hasn't aged well. Still pretty fun, but not the best from that era.
Hot damn I miss WCW. I’ll always cherish those moments of flipping back and forth between raw and nitro and never missing a PPV

The upscaled Brett Hart face looks good
Another awesome video! Hope ya feel better soon!
Well, didn‘t expect this, actually. I totally missed the wrestling games of that era, I bought some for the Dreamcast a few years later, that ECW games and Wwe Attitude. But I never really got into them. This is a great video. Thank you very much.
Hands down the best era for any video games.
I learned Santa Claus was not real through this game. I asked him for No Mercy and got Mayhem. When I brought up this wasn't what I asked for, my pops was quick to blurt out "I thought you said this one?". Busted!
Feel better bro. You cracking up on the character models are gold though! LoL
The commentary on that game even on PS1 was better than anything the WWE has made on any computer system or arcade system ever!
It sucks the N64 removed Bobby the Brain Heenan, that's what made the commentary so epic on PS1.
WCW NWO Revenge was my favourite Wrestling game back in the day.
Speaking of Thunder rants, Kevin Nash's was hilarious.
"Don't pick me.....go go"
Sup jiren shouts puts from here universe 7 to you universe 11
Thank you for your great work. Get better soon
My aunt bought me this at a car boot sale for 50p in the year 2000 and I still play the same copy to this very day
Get well and amazing videos as always!
Oh this takes me back. It’s nice to have gaming on this awesome channel too
The running commentary was fantastic compared to today. Way ahead of its time.
Great vid hope you feel better soon
My first wrestling game! I know its not a classic but I'll always remember it very fondly.
So much nostalgia!! WCW/NWO Revenge was better in almost every way, but it didn’t have Disco’s entrance theme lol!!
AT THE TIME, jeeeezz.... this game was REALLY AWESOME. It was so "REALISTIC" at the time with all the amazing camera angles and zooms. I loved it. The Commentary was beautiful too. BEST commentary in any game I feel
Thank you for this video ! I gotta admit that those games were great and I'm still playing them sometimes !
Hope you get better as soon as possible.
Great content creator👍🏻
I remember renting this from Movie Gallery, playing it for about an hour, and returning it the next day. WCW didn’t release a good PS game after WCW vs The World, for me. I owned Nitro and never played it.
Great video sir.
I remember playing this. It wasn't terrible.
I'd give it a 6 out of 10.
Good vid, feel better, bud!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed this game. Going backstage was a blast to do back in the early 2000s!
Eric bishop had me cracking up 😂😂😂😂
Awesome Job as Always My Dude 🤘 Hope U Feel Better Soon 🥰🍻
Dad had that on his PS1, and I remember he had Game Shark codes to unlock everything. Thought it was fun when I was a little girl, but lately, I played it on Emulators, and even with my PS designed controller, it hasn't aged well. Still pretty fun, but not the best from that era.
It's a decent game. Not great but still decent to play and pick up every now and then, especially considering I was a huge WCW fan.
15:02 That seems more like a relaxing walk than a run-in.
