Walking out of a bunker to a view of a smoldering Washington monument, realizing where you are and then slowly turning right to view the White House under siege was probably one of the most powerful video game moments I've ever experienced.
Well said. Infinity Ward really nailed it with this mission; in fact, I believe that this was CoD's peak. I don't think we'll see anything like this again until CoD shifts away from this futuristic crap that they've been riding on since 2012. I just can't imagine a grand battle taking place on a fictitious location with fictitious weapons/gear (though I commend them for their creativity) having quite the same awe-inspiring impact that this mission in particular had.
FlyJonat Honestly, I remember when games were chosen specifically for their campaign. A good multiplayer was also great but back then there was more passion into making campaigns than today.
Makes me sad that even Battlefield has pretty much given up on making full campaigns anymore. I like to give COD a lot of shit, but if it was like the old games, then I'd still have respect for the series.
@@MrVuckFiacom I love the COD campaigns cuz it always had a great war feeling. The multiplayer didn't feel like that to me. The minute I switched to Battlefield 3 in 2013, I never looked back cuz the multiplayer captured that war simulating feel and that's what i look for in a military game.

***** Not really... Mw3 has more "sense of war" than Mw2... For example in the first mission you can see the Russian fleet battling the U.S fleet. Then the game switches to a full invasion in Hamburg with a massive battle with all kinds of vehicles. And the other mission in Berlin were the city is destroyed you see massive battles too... That epic moments were better than Mw2

An invasion on home territory, fighting in the streets that many of the men walked daily before they joined the military, the aftermath of the invasion, this is the most eye opening scene in any cod since it accurately depicts what an invasion would be like.
An invasion on US would prove a very costly one for its invaders. A good percentage of americans own weapons, so it would be mass skirmish in the streets if Russian invaders decided to parachute into home land soil. There would be heavy resistance and loss for the invading side since we know our territory. The only successful way of taking a place now is by nuclear arms, or destroying it completely.

The US Army portion of this game was amazing. I love how it started out with the US finishing the war from CoD 4, America fighting across the waters, the killing happening in a faraway land. Then over time, the Russian invasion happens and America slowly turns to Hell on Earth. This level conveys the despair and hopelessness of a losing fight on our own soil, and the only way to save America was to destroy it. Too bad this was not much further explored in MW3 though...

You're looking at it wrong. Modern Warfare Remastered is a pre-order bonus with Infinite Warfare, meaning it will be released on standalone eventually. But, as promotion for Infinity Ward, you can get Modern Warfare Remastered early with Infinite Warfare.
It doesn't feel like the same passion that went into CoD4 and MW2 went into MW3. The Washington invasion missions were better than any of the other city missions in MW3.
IKR? The Emergency Broadcast/Alert System as the intro, giving you a look at the unfolding crisis from a civilian's point of view is scary enough. To then walk through that bunker filled with radio chatter and body bags gives you a real sense of dread. But nothing compares to the moment when you walk out and see that World War III is being fought not only in your country, but in the heart of its capital, fills you with a emotions of unyielding awe, horror, grief, and anger, as you realize that the United States of America, as you knew it, is gone forever.
Yes it will start to calm, worry, scared, and terrified it scares me that the operator said the civilians are arming themselves but they are not trained the last when the operator said THE CIVIES NOOOOOOOOOOOOO the scares me a lot
Omniversal Americaball there’s a video online showing it. I don’t have the link but it’s easily found. It is horrifying to listen to especially when they say “Civilians are picking up weapons and aren’t trained to use them”
Well he has to be. If Foley lost his cool or even showed the smallest hint of weakness or hopelessness, it would be damaging to morale. And in war, Morale plays a very important role. Low morale can get your troops killed.
I'm still relatively new to COD, as I've only really played the Black Ops Games, so it is interesting to see the others but this, this has the atmosphere that none of the Black Ops games have ever pulled off. The intro with the EBS, the setting seeing DC is ruins, the music that makes it even more dramatic, and the Background sounds, like the radio chatter, background gunfire from helicopters and such. It's just awesome
That-B if you want you should look up the MW2 radio chatter. It shows how much time and effort that they put into the cod games that they don’t put in now. They used to care about the games and now it takes them 4 months to put out a hot fix.
This is why one of the most important things in CoD Games it's the atmosphere, and MW2 had the best of the entire franchies... the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro is another good example of the awesome atmosphere of this incredible game
One Winged Ice Angel Activision, do the world a favor. Just cancel Infinite Warfare, release Modern Warfare Remastered standalone, and make Call of Duty: Online worldwide.
There’s cut dialogue from the Washington monument in this level. When you got to the crows nest and didn’t assist the troops below, you would get radio transmissions from your fellow soldiers at the Washington monument telling you that their combat effectiveness is dropping. You will begin to hear the desperation and fear in the soldiers voice increase over time and eventually their combat effectiveness will reach ineffective levels and they will be all killed. This dialogue is very disturbing and I don’t recommend listening to it..
A few years late, but I came and watched the rest of this mission after learning about that audio and listening to it. Kind of a shame that it didn’t make the cut because whoever voiced the radio operator did an incredible job with it. Might have even done too well and stopped it from getting into the game because it was just that disturbing.
I used to despise the Russians in this mission but after going into the backstory i felt bad for both sides as United States and Russia both have a madman in a position of power Shepherd in the U.S, Makarov in Russia both sides want more power and both are willing to start a war with civillian and military lives meaning little to either of them.
The Faceless Gamer Shepard didn’t want to kill people hear me out he wanted to start a war between US and Russia to see how strong the US was and didn’t want interference cough EMP he wanted US casualties a minimum but wanted them to win fairly but he’s still a shitty guy and is a villain when you know him more than just a traitor (well he’s still a traitor but still hasn’t got exposed) although he only became evil cause of the nuke and was a good guy
@@Deathmare235 wrongo. He started the war so that he can atleast become a war hero by winning the war than carrying the cross of those 30,000 men he failed to evacuate.

Ryan Schons I took a trip to DC too last year. I remember staring at the Washington Monument and seeing "how i had been here before" but in a different atmosphere.
Nothing beats that score hitting as you step out of the bunker and realize the utter chaos you’re stepping into. Seeing DC in ruins as evacuations and air support scream by overhead. To this day it still gives me chills

Next level : Of Their Own Accord Game : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Character : Pvt. James Ramirez Team : U.S. Army Rangers, Navy SEALs Place : Washington, D.C., United States of America Date : Day 5 (August 14th), 2016 - 18:34:20 Elements of the US Army, including the 75th Ranger Regiment are recuperating in an evacuation center, which is beneath the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, the site has come under attack by Russian forces that are advancing into Washington, D.C. and the site itself must be evacuated by the helicopter group Reaper Two. The Russians have captured many buildings in the capital, erecting SAM sites and pillboxes with caches of captured anti-vehicle weapons in the northern half of the city. After retaking the Department of Commerce building, Ramirez and the rest of Foley's squad halt the Russian advance on the Washington Monument by utilizing re-captured Javelins. Despite their efforts, the squad is overrun and forced to evacuate via a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Manning the minigun, Ramirez is able to buy the evacuating forces some time, but the helicopter takes numerous hits from SAM missiles and crashes. Making a desperate last stand, the Rangers are about to be overrun by Russian troops as a searchlight passes over Ramirez, blinding him. edited by 3XtrEmE August 14th, 2017 - 21:46:00 (9:46 P.M.)
This mission was directed so perfectly, a shot of an FOB with injured and demoralized soldiers, then a seamless musical build up to finally revealed Washington DC on fire
It literally brought tears to my eyes playing it but It also made me pissed off enough to get into the mission...you don't attack us without a very bad defense..
The EMP was released after Ramirez's copter was shot down. There would be a lot of time between the stoppage of evacuation and the EMP. Most of the Black Hawks would've gotten out of range.
He's right. Around the time where they're just in sight of the Department of Justice, there's a brief line over the radio that mentions Civilian casualties.
@@ellismichigan4338 If you look at the US when the EMP goes off, it affects everywhere from Maine to Southern Georgia. ALL AIRCRAFT on the Eastern seaboard plummeted to the ground when it went off.
Sgt. Foley: Take us up! If we're going down were taking those SAM sites with us! *Only takes out 1* Sgt. Foley: If you don't end up hitting the damn thing it makes you look like an ass.
OMG, the Emergency Alert System sound has to be the most irritating thing that i have ever heard, damn thing scared the hell out of me so many times when i was little😠😠 but at least here it's doing its job, in a video game lol :p
i have to say, this mission brought such chills to me back then and even now... back before this game came out, i think right after the first (CoD: Waw DLC came out) i went on a middle school trip to D.C. for a week. After loving it there and getting to know everything there. MW2 hits me with this. this mission made me mad and sad. (in a good way of course.) this is probably my favorite mission on MW2 and just the atmosphere created for this is just tear jerking. Hans Zimmer is Godlike at this so im not surprised xD
I had the same reaction, but different order. I played this mission, never been to D.C., and said "cool" because it looked really cool and sad. When I went, I loved D.C., and I would love to go back there. Now when I play the mission, I try to see the locations of where I was at in game, like the Hotel I was staying at. I feel like the scene where you had to do sniper support was either at the building next to my room or the actual room I stayed at was where they were doing the sniper support. Seeing the destruction of these landmarks makes me so sad and mad, like you, and I almost cried seeing the great locations of where I was at.
The helicopter gun run at the end of this mission has to be my favourite moment in all of cod. The immensity of the situation, I think I remember being able to take out at least 3 or 4 of the SAM batteries are the DoJ before getting shot down
The year 2016 doesn't mean real life AD 2016. Its just a symbol denoting future times since the game never explicitly states which year exactly took place. But yes I get your point, all Modern Warfare series are not just typical games, but prophecies for our real life future politics. For instance, COD4 will predict new revolution in Russia against Kremlin oligarchs who betrayed their people as well as Saudi Arabian monarchy will be overthrown and turns into republic. MW2 predicts USA will be isolated geopolitically and she will lose all traditional allies especially in Europe. MW3 predicts WW3 and the West will no longer be world superpower.
Sir Monkeys Yeah, the team that gave us 2 of the best video games in history were fired and created Respawn Entertainment which is where they created Titanfall. I actually remember reading this on an old game informer magazine and someone told me that COD will never be the same. They were right sadly.
At first, when the player gets on the sniper rifle in the enemy 'crow's nest' and aims at targets south of the Washington Monument, I thought the Russians were destroying the Washington Monument itself. Turns out, they were destroying the vehicles at the evac site at the Washington Monument.
I suspect it's evening, since the next mission chronologically is Second Sun, and the whole place is dark, and the following mission, Whiskey Hotel, shows a brighter setting, most likely dawn, though that's just what I think. Also, this has to be the most climatic levels I've played on MW2, and possibly the most in the whole Modern Warfare series in COD, especially the starting :/
i remember this shit, the funny thing was that i live in virginia and i work in prince george county, when i saw this i was like holly shit what the fuck happened, it took me a minute to realize it was part of the game. this moment was epic i will never forget it. COD I LIKE YOU WHEN YOU ARE LIKE THIS.
I actually played the last part of the level, the part where your in the chopper in surround sound and it was a magnificent experience. The music blaring along with all the combat below you, the missiles whizzing by your little bird, your fellow soldiers screaming for help over the radio and your minigun shooting is perfect. I highly recommend it

They really missed a great opportunity with the New York missions
+MBr WHat's wrong with MW3?
It doesn't feel like the same passion that went into CoD4 and MW2 went into MW3. The Washington invasion missions were better than any of the other city missions in MW3.
personally, I hate all of the invasion levels in MW2, except for Of their own accord.
In all fairness MW3 had a pretty messed up development
This level is tha most epic part of tha game. It left me in awe, ect...It still gives me chills to this day.
IKR? The Emergency Broadcast/Alert System as the intro, giving you a look at the unfolding crisis from a civilian's point of view is scary enough. To then walk through that bunker filled with radio chatter and body bags gives you a real sense of dread. But nothing compares to the moment when you walk out and see that World War III is being fought not only in your country, but in the heart of its capital, fills you with a emotions of unyielding awe, horror, grief, and anger, as you realize that the United States of America, as you knew it, is gone forever.
hell. if u didnt defend the monument. the radio is pure horror...
Yes it will start to calm, worry, scared, and terrified it scares me that the operator said the civilians are arming themselves but they are not trained the last when the operator said THE CIVIES NOOOOOOOOOOOOO the scares me a lot
@@MIRKY-fe4yg what is that "nooo" refers to? I know the radio msg, it was fckin horror
The shits been removed in the final build how the fuck are you guys getting it
Omniversal Americaball there’s a video online showing it. I don’t have the link but it’s easily found. It is horrifying to listen to especially when they say “Civilians are picking up weapons and aren’t trained to use them”
@@ragaputra3958 if you wait too long the Russians breach the bunker thing and start killing everyone inside
This is the best stage in all video game story. Period.
Addendum: No, your Halo fantardism and that flood bullshit will not freeze someone's spine below the zero point.
MoppyPuppy Yeah and Michael Salvitori and Marty isn't good? fuck off.
@MoppyPuppy hans is the mvp for sure but idk about the game being nothing without him
Love how Foley is all calmed the whole time.
Cool heads prevail
Well he has to be. If Foley lost his cool or even showed the smallest hint of weakness or hopelessness, it would be damaging to morale. And in war, Morale plays a very important role. Low morale can get your troops killed.
@@spyrothelegendarypurpledra8786 That's a nice take on morale, thanks Spyro, the legendary purple dragon
He's trying. I was young when I played this, and even I could see Foley's fear and trauma from his shaking voice.
mw2 was dark amd deep game... i love it. miss those times when this was new game
+MrSpiceNinja thisis my favorite mission of modern warfare 2
+sWooZieGaming same, i liked the u.s army rangers missions most
I'm still relatively new to COD, as I've only really played the Black Ops Games, so it is interesting to see the others but this, this has the atmosphere that none of the Black Ops games have ever pulled off. The intro with the EBS, the setting seeing DC is ruins, the music that makes it even more dramatic, and the Background sounds, like the radio chatter, background gunfire from helicopters and such. It's just awesome
Yeah the modern warfare is better at actually making you feel like your in a war. Black ops has better gun play in my opinion though
Play the original Call of Duty. Came out in 2003.
Yeah, its music is also awesome.
And it is really accurate historically.
That-B if you want you should look up the MW2 radio chatter. It shows how much time and effort that they put into the cod games that they don’t put in now. They used to care about the games and now it takes them 4 months to put out a hot fix.
Please Leave how is that host migration?
This is why one of the most important things in CoD Games it's the atmosphere, and MW2 had the best of the entire franchies... the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro is another good example of the awesome atmosphere of this incredible game
This is how Call of Duty should be.
+One Winged Ice Angel i agree
And yet they're setting it in space now. Fuck you Activision.
DrScaphandre Call of Duty and Halo are doing a crossover game! :O
One Winged Ice Angel Activision, do the world a favor. Just cancel Infinite Warfare, release Modern Warfare Remastered standalone, and make Call of Duty: Online worldwide.
DrScaphandre An MMO RPG version of CoD?
There’s cut dialogue from the Washington monument in this level. When you got to the crows nest and didn’t assist the troops below, you would get radio transmissions from your fellow soldiers at the Washington monument telling you that their combat effectiveness is dropping. You will begin to hear the desperation and fear in the soldiers voice increase over time and eventually their combat effectiveness will reach ineffective levels and they will be all killed. This dialogue is very disturbing and I don’t recommend listening to it..
Chicken Fingers "I don't recommend listening to it" Well shit, I have to now.
I heared, sorry. Yeah it was kinda scary
I already heard that, it makes me can't sleep, when they scream nooooo
"Combat personnel are mostly dead! They're coming in at ANY SECOND NOW! ENEMY TROOPS ARE INSIDE THE EVAC SITE!!!! WE LOST THE CIVVIES! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Play or watch the game World in Conflict, complete edition. It tells a story of a Soviet Invasion from both sides.
@@Deathmare235 he was never a good guy to begin with.
@@garysanderson5015 Stalin wasn't evil like makarov
@@Deathmare235 wrongo. He started the war so that he can atleast become a war hero by winning the war than carrying the cross of those 30,000 men he failed to evacuate.
Just about all the voice acting was stellar. especially the radio stuff
Agreed👍👍
This game had such an impact on me growing up, I took a trip to DC several months ago and all I had to do was close my eyes and I was in MW2 again.. one of the few games that transcends the medium and becomes an EXPERIENCE...
Ryan Schons I took a trip to DC too last year. I remember staring at the Washington Monument and seeing "how i had been here before" but in a different atmosphere.
Ryan Schons I live 45 min away from DC so I can’t imagine this kind of thing happening right next to me
Nothing beats that score hitting as you step out of the bunker and realize the utter chaos you’re stepping into. Seeing DC in ruins as evacuations and air support scream by overhead. To this day it still gives me chills
"Pull that trigger till they dont get up"
The Rangers campaign is probably my favorite in the whole series.
Civil War has a battle scene that made me think of this mission
I can't imagine how hard it would be for most citizens in the U.S. To see if this happened in real life
Any citizen in any country would be heartbroken if they saw their nations capital being destroyed.
True but we got one of the strongest army's
It was heart-wrenching to see in-game. In real life, most citizens would be in hysterics.
@@secondpath5148 Me i'd be pissed and grabbing as many guns as possible. Even if i die im gonna fight and take a few with me.
@@toolitchris so do the RUSSIANS
The music at 10:20 onwards and this scene gives me goosebumps everytime I play it. I haven't felt like that in a long time, I'll miss you MW2.
For whatever reason, I always thought the music that played was The Cranberries - Zombie
One of the best and most moving missions in COD history I was a loss for breath and words when I first saw the Washington Monument like that
1:45 always gets me in the feels
Feels sad.
1:43 is so powerful. The music and running through that field and everybody dieing really shows that your losing.
HurricaneHomer9 the USA won tho
Not exactly, but at the time they were losing.

Next level : Of Their Own Accord
Game : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Character : Pvt. James Ramirez
Team : U.S. Army Rangers, Navy SEALs
Place : Washington, D.C., United States of America
Date : Day 5 (August 14th), 2016 - 18:34:20
Elements of the US Army, including the 75th Ranger Regiment are recuperating in an evacuation center, which is beneath the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Making a desperate last stand, the Rangers are about to be overrun by Russian troops as a searchlight passes over Ramirez, blinding him.

very awesome
So Nice
Sup Captain
This mission was directed so perfectly, a shot of an FOB with injured and demoralized soldiers, then a seamless musical build up to finally revealed Washington DC on fire
It literally brought tears to my eyes playing it but It also made me pissed off enough to get into the mission...you don't attack us without a very bad defense..
You know why you're back here
WE know why WE're back here
(no communism)
"We can't take any more people, we're gonna have to leave some of them behind"
Poor civies. A lot of those choppers must have crashed after the EMP.
The EMP was released after Ramirez's copter was shot down. There would be a lot of time between the stoppage of evacuation and the EMP. Most of the Black Hawks would've gotten out of range.
Ellis Michigan
That's true.
MoppyPuppy They did? I couldn't hear it.
Just realized, almost the whole missions takes place in a single building.

Who knew the people would do it
a lot of people don't even know why this level is called "Of Their Own Accord"
Why?

And then that disembodied voice that tells you just how fucked you are.
This I think was the greatest mission Call of Duty ever produced in terms of atmosphere, emotion, and overall quality
i have to say, this mission brought such chills to me back then and even now...
back before this game came out, i think right after the first (CoD: Waw DLC came out) i went on a middle school trip to D.C.
The immensity of the situation, I think I remember being able to take out at least 3 or 4 of the SAM batteries are the DoJ before getting shot down
All these missions from MW2 and MW3 were took place from 2016 to 2017. SSDD mission starts in August 10 2016 at Afghanistan 3:30 pm

3XtrEmE well atleast it's all over now
SIDA yeah
CAPTAIN HOW TF DO I KEEP RUNNING INTO YOU

That helicopter ride is the best moment in any video game, period.

Sir Monkeys Yeah, the team that gave us 2 of the best video games in history were fired and created Respawn Entertainment which is where they created Titanfall. I actually remember reading this on an old game informer magazine and someone told me that COD will never be the same. They were right sadly.

After all these years this level is still a cinematic masterpiece...both in setting and music.
Hans Zimmer is the man, knows how to write music. and that track when you get in the chopper... "it's about to get heavy!"
1:45
That score. I'm shivering goddamnit
At first, when the player gets on the sniper rifle in the enemy 'crow's nest' and aims at targets south of the Washington Monument, I thought the Russians were destroying the Washington Monument itself. Turns out, they were destroying the vehicles at the evac site at the Washington Monument.
