  • I shot some video of the more unique/interesting Gravelys I saw at the 2012 Gravely mow-in. I was only there on Friday, and i'm sure many more machines showed up on Saturday. This video shows a grader powered by gravely, an ice cream maker, a well pump, and several others including some tandem creations made by "5Tractorguy". If you don't know who that is, I highly suggest you check out his channel here on you tube.

    Nice to see some Gravely red on display. My family has some history with them, for sure.
    Grandpa had a walk behind that was significantly larger than those on display that he used to mow the grass.
    When I grew up and left home (and stopped mowing dad's yard for him) he went out and rescued a big Gravely mowing machine from being traded in to a dealership. It had a 4 cylinder engine in it, and could mow 10 feet at a pass. Guess he didn't want to spend all day mowing like I used to have to.

    i know what you mean. i grew up mowing every square inch of 5 acres, with just one gravely model 8102 rider w/ a 40" deck. That was a solid 8 hour day to mow all that!

    these old tractors certainly do represent an era of american ingenuity and prosperity, Its' unfortunate that those days are long gone.

      I agree and disagree. Still lots of good stuff coming from USA. Tesla is a great example, and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Don't believe all the negative stuff politicians say. They only say it so people get brainwashed and vote for them. USA was and is doing very well.

    sure, i've encountered tractors from the 40's, can't say i've ever been into the engine on one though. My oldest tractor is a 54' ls. I'm sure 5Tractorguy and/or stevenpturcheck have some 40's model tractors, you should check out their channels.

    Wish I could find a modern scoop I could buy for a Gravely. I can get 60s era Gravelys in my area, but it seems like in order to get a scoop that dumps, I'd either have to find an old one (and nobody wants to part with theirs) or fabricate one, and I'm not a welder. I just want a solution for moving 30 yards of dirt around my yard to re-grade it where I don't have to rent Skidsteers over and over (I have lots of future projects) or buy $6,000 worth of old used subcompact tractor with a scoop so a Gravely looked like a good option if I can find a scoop.

    A four cyl gravely??? significantly bigger??? sounds like a farmall to me, but even a 10' pass is too big for that. I think cougarhunter33 was smoking dads grass not mowing it, but for sure not a gravely. Now to be more posative, the mow in looks awesome!!Hopefully Dad and I can come some year. Im trying to collect a L from every year up to the kohler powered units, almost 1/2 way there. Ever seen a wartime 1943 unit with a cast iron crank case, its my favorite to show. Thanks for the video.

    It's hard to say, the condition is pretty important. weather or not it runs is super important. your attachments are 3 of the most common. it also depends on the model. does it have dual wheels, good tires or chains? truth is i'd have to see the set, hear it run. you could always watch ebay and craislist, and compare listings to the condition of your equipment to get an idea that way.

    minute 7:16 - where can I find those type of seats (part #)? Thank you... great vid!

    • @GeneralChaos1756
      @GeneralChaos1756  10 років тому

      i don't know about a part # but they are called a "sulky" one kind is just a seat and the other is a steering sulky, both made by gravely. check craigslist or ebay. a steering sulky in good shape should be no more than $100, non-steering will be cheaper.

      ***** ebay is likely your best bet.

    all original, good tires, runs good, missing hood, needs battery, comes with brush hog.... $250....is that too much?.....

    • @GeneralChaos1756
      @GeneralChaos1756  7 років тому +1

      depends on the model, for a typical "L" model that'd be a fair price. L8's, commercial and professional models are certainly worth more.
