This takes me back to my childhood. Mid 50s/early 60s my dad (a mechanic) supplemented his income by repairing cars and lawnmowers in our garage. A neighbor had a Gravely just like this one. He had both the sickle bar and rotary mower attachments for it. When it need fixing or a tuneup, he brought it to my dad. I remember that leather pull-to-start strap and how hard it was to pull for the skinny kid I was at the time. Of course, I had to help (?) pop with his work. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Very nice! It looks like an efficient way of cutting rank grass on a small plot. You brought back a nostalgic childhood memory, as these were often the "ride-on" mower equivalent of the day, used by councils and contractors. Cheers! Peter, NZ.
Hey, engines don't like to start first try when you have an audience. Nice job, it's good to see a young guy that is mechanically inclined taking an interest in these oldies but goodies.
Oh my we used a gravely to mow our acre around the house ,it had a conventional mower head, and a detachable seat, also had a snow blower attachment. This was 1957-8 I believe. Mom hated that machine because I alway mowed her saplings 🙄man I remember those throw control levers!
The l8 has a two speed differential, making it an 8 speed, 4 forward and 4 reverse, that is a model l, same as I have, 6.6 hp. There is a gravely dealer in lower part of maine that has around 200 parts tractors if you ever need parts.
You already know what Im about to say :P. that was 2 pulls and yep hahaha. The sickle bar was working pretty good there I must say. Is it just the camera or is the tractor awful loud? Other than that nice vid man!
cant tell me how much it thrills me to see a "young" guy interested in "old" iron!
thanks for posting!

Thanks!
Steven's was loaded up. That's why it wouldn't cut. Nothing could get to the teeth. And a 2 pull start is just fine!

Thanks I get that a lot hahaha
It is very loud! It had a broken ear on the jug and the welding job was bad so some exhaust gets out through there
My grandpa had one of these but it was green. John Deere maybe?
yah hahaha!
