I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I enjoy watching your videos. I’m also an accountant in the Dfw area, working in government, and I can relate to so many of the experiences you share-especially when it comes to navigating workplace politics and dealing with toxic environments. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in facing those challenges. I really admire how you’re able to recognize when a place isn’t working out for you and move on to the next opportunity. That’s something I struggle with, and seeing your resilience inspires me to work on that. Thank you for sharing your journey and being so open-it’s truly appreciated!
Thank you so much for sharing love!! This makes me so happy, I’m so glad to be “here” for you virtually just like y’all are with me 🫶🏼 I appreciate you!
Thank you for another career chat! I love to hear about your journey and how you’re able to look for new opportunities because you know your value and your worth!
I’m an audit senior at a mid tier public accounting firm in DFW and have been watching your videos and following your journey since I decided to major in accounting back in 2017. You’ve always been such an inspiration to me. I never miss a video ❤
Love the glasses and I’ll forever to be a fan of these car chats!! Glad to hear you have made such progress with asking for the compensation you deserve. Looking forward to more YT videos in 2025.
Thank you for another career car chat! I love hearing about your journey, and your path to seek new opportunities because you know your worth and value!
It’s cool that you’ve gotten to work at so many different companies in exciting roles and sorry to hear you had to go through a layoff. Have you always felt that you’ve had options in your career and do you still feel like there is a lot of longevity in internal controls and audit? I think it’s a great career but hope opportunities will exist for the longterm.
Thank you so much! Even though I’ve moved around a lot, I am grateful for all of the experiences! I do feel there’s longevity in IA and internal controls (and even external audit). Compliance requirements in the US will always dictate it for public companies - unless they change regulations. While there is some change with AI - I have found that the value added from humans is digging into complexities or irregularities flagged by AI. More of the mundane, mindless transactional tasks are going away but having a critical mind and learning to unravel a tangled ball of yarn is important. There are plenty of companies out there that are still figuring things out - so I see opportunities there and in the compliance world in general ✨
14:10 I’m working for a Pre-IPO company now and completely agree!!! Sidenote - I left Public because of the politics I had to deal with….Too much unwarranted stress
Do you offer private coaching? I recently accepted a position in which one of my responsibilities is creating and implementing internal controls. I would really appreciate your expertise or advice!
I use to watch your videos for advice when i first graduated with my bachelors in 2018. Worked in healthcare AP until 2020 when I got laid off, had children and now want to get back into it… but I’m scared, nervous, unsure where to even apply with little experience and haven’t worked in 5 years. Any direction how you would start in my shoes? I’m hoping to avoid a public firm working 70+ hrs a week being in a mom of 3. Open to any positions, mostly because of my inexperience in not knowing how different jobs look.
If you go to the *right* kind of accounting firm, you should only work those hours during busy season (Jan - April) and I find they provide good benefits & flexibility for parents. But it’s definitely not for everyone or every season! You could also look at entry level accounting jobs, staff accountants or AP again. I would suggest connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn who could help find you a job (and they don’t or shouldn’t charge you - company pays for it). I have a handful of people/ recruiting firms I trust so not sure what area you’re in, would be happy to help connect you! Above all, your family comes first and I hope you will find the right company that values that too!!
