Great quality in audio in this video, too, because it's useful for me to improve my listening skill in English. Congratulations for her, bedsides she is beautiful. Sanjna, thank you for this video!! I find that I have many common experiences with you, law firm/banking :) except that I did these after finishing school. I think it might be super helpful if you can make a video explaining how you managed to do full time school + full time work at the same time bcuz not a lot of people get how to manage that!
It was tough! While working at KPMG, I finished my Juris Doctorate. On occasion, I had to stay up until 11:00 PM every night of the week to finish a last-minute engagement. But, my team was fantastic, and management was very helpful. My only gripe was billables. I might return at some point.
ahhh... consulting.... I thought pay raise happen fast in consulting, nope I was wrong.. Took me 2 years to earn 10K pay raise in consulting industry, while it only took me 6 months to earn 20K pay raise in IT start up
my take based on working in consulting for 7 years. pros; you get great exposure to many different companies / sectors. you learn and develop lots of skills including analysis and dealing with clients. cons; its a bit of a pyramid scheme, where you are told that if you work to death, sacrifice personal life, in some instances (tell the small lies to win bids), and put up with some of the toxic environment with backstabbing colleagues, favouritism (its run by partners, and the partners are like little kings and queens, and if they like you you rise if not, no chance). you can feel like a sellable resource, when the resourcing teams try and sell you for jobs (they act almost like pimps i felt just selling me to jobs sometimes without even asking me). for some its a great life, and it suits their personality and temperament. but i got tired of being sold to different clients as the 'expert' on something i knew little about, just because i was on the bench. i also got tired of being under pressure to deliver to unexpected deadlines that the partner had promised, working with lots of juniors who were from disparate backgrounds, emotional states, training and personal goals, to deliver something that was of high quality. sometimes there was no respect from the juniors to those below partners, as they did not see you as important in their career growth. so if you were in the middle between grad and partner, you sometimes got no respect from those above, nor from those below. but again its is very team dependant. if you are in a good team it can really be great. but most people did not want to kill themselves to be partner, and were looking to leave and join a firm in industry as a 'head of' type role.
I think that the internal audit practice at big 4 firms is very cyclical and project based. For example, When a company fires their external auditor it’s normally a big deal as they had a multi year relationship with them (30+ years in some cases). Internal audit advisory, however, is only needed for certain circumstances and companies have a range of providers to choose from (even non public accounting firms). What I recommend, out of school, is to join the external IT audit or external financial audit background. The external audit, although has long hours, typically are very well staffed and have a lot of resources because these are the firms flagship clients, so there are more opportunities to learn.
Hi there, thank you so much for this video it really helped a lot. I wanted to ask, I'm currently doing my final year where I'm studying Financial Management. I'm not graduating at record time which makes me worried that they wouldn't consider me. But, I was part of the social committee of my campus, this year I was an intern at an events company (internship had to be suspended due to Covid-19) and I am currently working at a Marketing Agency as a junior project manager (first started as an intern). I don’t think you should be concerned, I was definitely not doing the best at uni as well. As long as you’re part of extra circulars it should show you do more with your time. I also feel the fact that you are working as an intern is very beneficial, you just need to ensure that you actually mention that in your interview and play it up big. Good luck I’m sure you’ll kill it! Xx

Hey great video! Thanks for sharing your story (my first job was at a NAB call centre 😜) 👍🏼 very informative content, nice in-depth look at details of consulting 👏🏼
Hi Sanjna, really good content, a couple of questions. 1) Is there a lot of toxic culture at the big 4, everyone trying to get ahead of their peers and get promoted and pushing u down? 2) how bad are the hours actually? At my current role hours are super chill but I’m doing barely anything and not learning a lot, culture super good but doing nothing except copy paste documents 3) do you get given meaningful work or mostly admin jobs and grunt work no one else wants to do at the big 4? Ultimately asking cuz got a grad offer from big 4, my current grad role at a big insurance firm in aus (been 4 months in it) has super chill hours so that might be a trade off but I’m barely learning anything atm and so bored cuz only doing admin tasks. My offer is for governance risk compliance & control advisory (think that’s what u did at big 4 too). I’ve asked current big 4 grads their experience from different teams, some are loving it and time of their life some aren’t and are tensed and stressed obviously depends on the team, but would u recommend taking big 4 for the exit opportunities and learning growth only trade off is if my team is toxic and super long hours, but exit opportunities down the road are super attractive too so I’m confused as I’m not learning a lot and bored at my current job even tho no pressure Also on a seperate note, do you know what risk remediation is and did you do a lot of work in it during your time??
This video suddenly recommend by UA-cam as if they know that I just finished my last paper (on last Wednesday) for my Bachelor of Accountancy 🤭 currently seeking for job opportunities. I read most of the comments that talk about external auditing. Haha! Maybe I am a weirdo because I actually more interested in external audit 😬 anyways, this video is so interesting to watch! Wish me luck to find and secure jobs that suits me 🤗
Tbh my degree didn’t help in my current career. My career was all on the job learning. I think with risk you don’t need a degree with it, there’s not even a specific degree for risk unless you do post graduate study, which I believe is not necessary. Hope this helps :)
Hi Sanjna! I was wondering if you know how difficult it is to internally transfer to another line of service in the Big 4? I'm currently in tax and am thinking of switching to advisory!
I’ve heard it’s actually harder to transfer internally. I’ve seen a few people experience it, but each division is different so it depends. I suggest getting the process started as soon as you know you want to change :) good luck!
It is fairly hard. I had an interview with consigning after being in audit and I had to have about 8 coffee chats with people in the department and then I had a formal interview and didn’t get the job
Ive been in this business for a long time and best is to speak with some partners and managers in advisory and let them know of your interest, check their reaction and then if positive, speak with leadership on the audit side. My experience is that most of the Big 4 look out for their people and are very flexible about making a transfer as long as a) you have very solid performance ratings and b) you are young enough in your career.
I’ve just transferred internally from being non-business staff into audit department. And a lot of my fellow colleagues switched departments internally even at manager level

@@TheTruthFadeswithTime28 I'm bit of confusion where should I go big4 or top 10, for me it's really a challenging task to get and according I have to prepare
Better exit opportunities with the big 4. But firms in the top ten still have decent exit opportunities. Also top ten smaller offices you get to know the partner and managers by name. If you want to stay in public probably a top 10 is better for work life balance and salaries are pretty much the same. Better exit opportunities with big 4. At least my understanding. Have you talked with your advisor?

Hi Joshua, oh no thats really unfortunate to hear. Sometimes it has a lot to do with luck as well. There are thousands of applicants who apply and also struggle to get in. Keep trying - did you try for EY or other major banks?
@@successbysanjna omg, for example, BDO uk and ey and even Morgan Stanley accepted lower-qualified students such as my friends and my classmates(I went to Hult Internatiomal business school in London and Pace university in NYC) so I’m very disrespected in terms of being unemployed because no other big banks and even Korean major companies can handle with me and they don’t satisfy me to work for, so I’m alone and I’m self-employed as of now in Seoul. When I heard you started the CA program without an accounting background I was a bit worried 😅 Just finished it myself last year and it wasn't easy studying around work.
well within the audit field there is a lot of accounting that is required. Although I’m sure there would be accounting divisions too, would just need to do research :)

Hi, great video and thanks for sharing because it’s very insightful for me. Pls, if you wouldn’t mind I’ve got few questions...... I would like to go into the IT Audit work line and this is going to to be my very first job( never worked a 7-3/5). So pls 1. what is the different between been a Risk Analyst and a Audit Analyst. 2. What else do I really need to learn and know computer wise when it comes to working in the IT Audit field. And any other advice would you give me before venturing into it cos I’m about putting my CV out . Thanks.
Risk analyst is in the risk field, like consulting type of work and looking at controls and risk management, whereas audit is looking at financial statements etc. if you are entering as graduate then you don’t need much computer skills, just basic functionality of Microsoft, they will teach you on the job. Advice for when you have an interview: be confident, show other skills besides study and be real :)
Hi Sanjna. Just wondering if you know or have heard of anyone in the audit/assurance side who made a switch to corporate finance (e.g. transactions, M&A, valuation, etc.) while you were at KPMG? If so, can you share a bit about how they did it? Thanks so much
I would say strategy management just because I know what audit is like. Audit involves long hours for little pay. Although it’s not about the money, audit does provide you with some good learning prospects because they do really push, but it’s upto you whether you think it’s worth it or not. As for strategy management, I don’t know much, but I’m assuming it’s much like management consulting, which I have done and absolutely loved it. Not sure if it’s the same thing, but the work was very relevant and interesting as compared to audit. Hope that helps, ultimately it’s your decision :) good luck!!
We find that a lot of people are very interested in consulting but are hesitant because they also want to complete their CPA. Times have changed and some of the firms (depending on location) are actually allowing you to achieve this and have built out a program that allows you to work in the consulting practice while working towards your CPA 😊
@@dommanedounia164 External audit is exhausting and u need to be able to sacrifice your life and make your life revolve around work since it's almost a 24/7 job. Sure, you'll learn more things and career progression is almost certain but it will eventually take a toll on you physically and mentally. Not to mention, it's hard to find a job after external audit since it is much broader and different from internal audit which is what most private companies seek. This is coming from experience since I recently shifted from public firm to private company. If I can rewind time, I would have gone the advisory route since it's much more specified and focused which will give you a specialty which can be an edge when job hunting.
I didn't do any practice, but you can do so many online tests - they are usually paid, but if you want to make sure you know the style of questions then I recommend doing them :)

Xx
Thank you for the informative video. My younger sister is currently doing auditing, she's got a bcom in accounting and is planning on doing her honours next year. This information will come in very handy.
I’m glad you find it helpful! ☺️
what do you think you can get into after tech risk consulting in finance that is outside of tech risk and, consulting and finance?
I could look at this woman all day
Good video and useful content!
Been there, done that... It is not for everyone. Definitely not for me. However it's a good place to start after college and learn all you can
Agree its not for everyone, but definitely provides as a good stepping stone to later venture out :)
Impressive stuff! Keep at it
Hey great video! Thanks for sharing your story (my first job was at a NAB call centre 😜) 👍🏼 very informative content, nice in-depth look at details of consulting 👏🏼
Thank you!!! Appreciate it
Thankyou for this great video!
Hi Sanjna, really good content, a couple of questions.
1) Is there a lot of toxic culture at the big 4, everyone trying to get ahead of their peers and get promoted and pushing u down?
2) how bad are the hours actually? At my current role hours are super chill but I’m doing barely anything and not learning a lot, culture super good but doing nothing except copy paste documents
3) do you get given meaningful work or mostly admin jobs and grunt work no one else wants to do at the big 4?
Ultimately asking cuz got a grad offer from big 4, my current grad role at a big insurance firm in aus (been 4 months in it) has super chill hours so that might be a trade off but I’m barely learning anything atm and so bored cuz only doing admin tasks.
My offer is for governance risk compliance & control advisory (think that’s what u did at big 4 too). I’ve asked current big 4 grads their experience from different teams, some are loving it and time of their life some aren’t and are tensed and stressed obviously depends on the team, but would u recommend taking big 4 for the exit opportunities and learning growth only trade off is if my team is toxic and super long hours, but exit opportunities down the road are super attractive too so I’m confused as I’m not learning a lot and bored at my current job even tho no pressure
Also on a seperate note, do you know what risk remediation is and did you do a lot of work in it during your time??
Thank you so much😍 this is so helpful
This video suddenly recommend by UA-cam as if they know that I just finished my last paper (on last Wednesday) for my Bachelor of Accountancy 🤭 currently seeking for job opportunities. I read most of the comments that talk about external auditing. Haha! Maybe I am a weirdo because I actually more interested in external audit 😬 anyways, this video is so interesting to watch! Wish me luck to find and secure jobs that suits me 🤗
Goood luck with your job endeavours!!!
Thank you so much this was so helpful!
tbh, i got my motivation!! thank you!
So glad!!! Thanks for watching!
thank you sanjana.this is so much helpful
Can you please explain how your degree helped you with your current career in risk consulting?
@@boomds5602 Can you please tell me why do you want change auditing. I am thinking about it as a major but a lot of people tell me that it's really demanding. thank you in advance :)
I think we have the same jobs! Whatever you said about the controls and samples, I was like yeah this is my job description. I am also working for the big4 and agree with everything you said!
Really very helpful video..... I was also looking for such kind of videos from long time.
What important steps I should follow to be a part of big 4. I'm ACCA. Your advise will be appreciated.
Just go ahead and apply and see if you get through. I would recommend making sure your CV is up to date as well and aligned to the job you’re applying for :)
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, you were very informative!!
I would like to ask you if you've faced any sexism as a woman in theese corporate business environments. Were/Are you surrounded mostly by men? And if yes , was this a negative aspect of your worklife?
I am in my 3d year of uni, studying Tourism Management and in the meanwhile am doing a Minor Degree in Accounting , I am interested mostly in Strategy Consulting and that's why your video came up to my home page!
Hey girl! Yes, I have experienced a little bit of sexism/discrimination in my corporate jobs. This was in my previous job about 4 years ago now, but I’ve left that organisation now. Since then everything’s been going well for me! I’m glad this video was helpful to you! ✨💕
And this is why I chose healthcare ... 😳
It’s a good video, thank you for sharing your experience!
I’m applying for one of the Big 4 job.
Love from Brazil 😘

Hey Sanjna great video! What are your hours like are they very hectic? And do you have busy seasons like audit and tax or is the work more or less the same through the year?
Thanks! I don’t actually work at KPMG anymore 😅 though the hours weren’t actually too bad. Latest I probably worked was 7pm :)
Couldn’t get internship at big 4:( but got internship at top 10.
Nice one!
I think it's better than big 4 they give more salary as compared to big4
Yeah it pays 30 an hour. But my dream is to get into a big 4 firm and it’s harder to get a job at a big 4 if you haven’t interned there.
Only for first attempt pass CA IPCC students applying for articleship in Big 4 CA firm
Hi Sanjna! I was wondering if you get to travel for your job?
Yes I do!!
Is a risk consultant similar to an internal auditor? Are they interchangeable?
I would say so :) an internal auditor does risk consulting work if that makes sense :)
Graduate scheme: I’ve applied to KpMG, pwc, Accenture, lloyds, Barclays, and even Deloitte, I couldn’t even get accepted to the Digital Numerical Test at all.
My life is FUCKED UP AND SCREWED UP.
Very informative💯
When I heard you started the CA program without an accounting background I was a bit worried 😅
Just finished it myself last year and it wasn't easy studying around work.
Great to hear! Now it's done and dusted for you :)
Honestly, it’s the worst. I worked for Big 4 and they have no loyalty at all and the place is ridiculously political.
Thank you so much for your video! Do you have to do any sales when working for the big 4?
No definitely no sales in the internal audit space as a consultant :)
Great video! When you were in school, how many hours/week were you working to be considered full-time at your job?
I was working full time during my college times and that’s about 35 hours per week :)
bySanjna as a new graduate, can a person do just accounting instead of choosing between audit or tax?
well within the audit field there is a lot of accounting that is required. Although I’m sure there would be accounting divisions too, would just need to do research :)
Thank you for this review!!!!!
You are so welcome!
hi excuse me i am french and i didn't understand what was your place in the entreprise. Risk auditor in intern ou extern ?
It's an external role I.e. a role dealing with clients.
Thank you for this video! I’m a junior majoring in Finance with a 3.1 GPA and I’m scared to apply for internships because I feel my gpa is too low ☹️ I also work a part time job 30hrs a week. Advice for applying to internships?
Never be too afraid of putting your application forward. You don’t know if they won’t accept you or not. I was the same, my gpa wasn’t high at all, but I got accepted :) gotta be in it to win it!
isn't a 3.1 GPA very good? that is 3/4 right? I am from Australia so i am not familiar with the GPA system
R NS not that great but not terrible. I had a 3.3 and got in but it took me about 5 years of applying
Boom ds 3.3 undergrad or 3.3 in your masters of accounting program? I believe I’ll be graduating undergrad with a 3.4 which is still low unfortunately
Hey, I'm doing Specialization in Human Resources (HR) do I have a chance in future to land in any of the big 4's?
Oh yes definitely. I suggest looking at the careers page, I’m sure you can find jobs relating to HR
Advice for when you have an interview: be confident, show other skills besides study and be real :)
bySanjna thanks so much really appreciate this🥰🥰
Anyone here specialise in tax with Ey? Could anyone who does tell me about it in detail if possible in terms of a typical day
Tax itself is quite broad..
Hi Sanjna. Just wondering if you know or have heard of anyone in the audit/assurance side who made a switch to corporate finance (e.g. transactions, M&A, valuation, etc.) while you were at KPMG? If so, can you share a bit about how they did it? Thanks so much
Not that I know of sorry. I suggest networking and reaching out to those on LinkedIn that have done so.
Stuck between Audit and Strategy/Management Consulting, Help pls!
Don't go to audit. Just don't.
@@raindelta7079 why please ? i was thinking about it as a major in college :)
Hi. How did you prepare for the psychometric test? How did you practice?
I didn't do any practice, but you can do so many online tests - they are usually paid, but if you want to make sure you know the style of questions then I recommend doing them :)
@@successbysanjna Thanks heaps😀
How different is the work from risk job to risk job? Is it similar measurements and procedures or is the job role completely different? This was such a great video, really inspiring!
hi there, honestly giving you my opinion, i think moving from Risk job to Risk job is very similar in nature. There will always be controls testing, risk management tasks, writing up process documents, identifying risks and doing some form of reporting. Hope that helps!
I am interested in Risk Consulting intern at PwC, and just like you, i am not great with calculating stuffs, maybe I can join Risk Consulting too :)
Yes you can! Go for it!

Where do you currently work?? Like wht company out of the big 4?
