@ they’re just static objects that simply change states based on an HP%, it’s not dynamic whatsoever, you can collapse buildings by beating a corner with a shovel.
Really needs craters Speaking of craters. I heard there was plans to add trench digging. That would be a game changer but it's never been done before in any game
@@darthgonk5648 On the contrary, Arma 3 has script functionality to "lower" terrain. It's the reason we have mods like deformer, improved craters, and trencher. Just a matter of whether or not enfusion engine can do it too.
Destroying trees would be effective from the perspective of being able to easily hide behind a fallen tree. But now the fallen tree simply disappears. Regarding the destruction of buildings, I agree that a partially destroyed building after being hit by a single grenade would be more realistic.
Its definitely not realistic for a single mortar detonation to drop a building. I feel like defenders will just destroy all nearby buildings with this game design.
They have a lot of work to do sure, but I think it's a good start. What I don't like is those fallen trees immediately despawning or just disappearing, also they should add some kind of bush destruction to make this consistent.
More mortar thoughts: An 81 would have a tough time turning a building to rubble, an 82 would have a tougher time due to not having a delay fuze. What would be realistic is the round hitting or penetrating the roof and turning everybody on the space it entered into confetti. Mortars would definitely strip branches or shred small trees but it's not shearing them. Tree destructability has a long way to go, and I'm looking forward to it.
You could be hiding in a building in Montignac taking out soldiers on by one and a heli can come by and level the entire town in 2 or three passes. That's going to change the game significantly and unrealistically, IMO.
I think the buildings collapsing under the current amount of damage is not only low it is far too low. So I agree 100% I am fine with the game having this basic level of destruction though for the time being as this will bring major changes to the battlefield as is just as long as they increase the damage needed by quite a bit before releasing the patch. The entire battlefield would be flat within an hour or two of each match getting helis or mortars up and running lol.
Agreed. You could be hiding in a building in Montignac taking out soldiers on by one and a heli can come by and level the entire town in 2 or three passes. That's going to change the game significantly and unrealistically, IMO.
Thanks for making this video. At the moment they are very underwhelming effects for the buildings. Trees are cool though, except for them disappearing. BI has a long way to go to make this next level, as the new engine would warrant. Otherwise we have not anything better than Arma3 level effects
Arma 3 had some really cool and modular building destruction, you could torn buildings to pieces pretty specifically, destroy this corner, destroy this wall, etc. And you could make it better, there were the tool for developing modular destruction, they just didnt make enough models
It’s gonna be nice taking out the trees around heavy wooded bases gives attackers nowhere to hide when they’re trying to sneak up on a base. They should also add a flamethrower so you can get rid of the underbrush and bushes too.
Battlefield 3 had the Best ever destruction in the game like that nades would just blow a hole in a wall and when you busted enough walls the building would then fall but not just fall soon as it's hit with something it takes way more to drop a building then that
The tree damage is much nicer than Arma 3 but it doesn't seem to consider the size of the tree, just if it's x distance from the mortar explosion which will hopefully be improved. The building destruction seem to be very similar to 3 still, slightly nicer animation maybe but they really need multi-stage destruction. I should be able to blow out the corner of a building with some HE but not drop the entire thing in one go.
They for sure have this in experimental rn just to let people play around with it, explosives are too OP in current state to work PvP fairly (when it comes to building destruction, they are fine damage and AOE wise). That said, the rockets / mortar systems for sure should and probably will take 3-4 direct hits before anything happens. Buildings just need some more health is all :).
I think the tree destruction is fairly unrealistic at this time and I hope they add to it in future, I expected at least three states to replicate how a tree in real life would suffer from artillery or shrapnel damage. First state should be loss of some tree branches and leaves, second state should be visible shrapnel damage to tree followed by more loss of branches and leaves maybe even addition of burn marks. Final state should be destruction of tree, but third state of tree height should be random, so it looks more real. A place to look for this effect right now would be the Kremmina forest in Ukraine. The trees here don't stand anymore due to years of artillery battles, but its a good place to look at damaged tree models.
I have 100% seen real life video from Ukraine of landmine satchels being used to drop houses. I believe they generally use two tape together, but still that creates a crazy punch
As far as the visual representation goes, the 81/82 mm mortars look meager compared tot heir IRL counterparts, I have to agree though to the fact that an 81/82 would never collapse a building entirely like this, maybe after 10-12 direct hits the building would partially collapse IRL.
A devastated area, be it a town or a forrest is often a much bigger obstacle for any attacker in the real world. I hope they also add burned states of objects.
I agree that the building damage should be turned down (ie: 4-5 direct hits to collapse a building) but this type of combat is hyper lethal so I dont dislike this build as an alpha. I think mortars are in a decent balance state, Requiring skill and teamwork to be effective, constant resupply, vulnerability to ambush and counter battery fires. With the caveat being that shooting down a helicopter is hard right now due to lack of AA systems and risk of losing a helicopter is non existent meaning CAS helo will be meta. To address this we need limited gunship availability, longer and more expensive rearm and other balances Im probably not aware of.
the problem is that still use healt point to damadge something, and no physics. after 20 years still the same issue have like the OFP. no destructable enviroment , no normal driveable vehichles, difficult to use the equipment and difficult to command the units. I don't know if they change the entire grafical engine why remain almost the same issue in it? it will be very weak for the ARMA4. almost every arcad game has a more belivable damadge sistem and more realistic animation for AI and the weapons handlings. they should put more interaction between the enviroment and the units, and more physics, more particles effect. The farcry had better destruction then the reforge although this is almost 10 years game . Even the COD 2 has a feature if we shoot a barrel then the liquid pour out from it until the hole, where is this feature in reforge in 2024?
Lmao, wild take. It’s an entirely new engine and their trying to add more content then Arma 3 with more detail and better graphics. The choice is yours but it’s a transitional game and we can either play this as it develops or wait a couple years and play Arma 4 that should be more than complete on release. It’s up to personal preference, but calling it a scam is just false
Buildings being in binary states really sucks. Hope this is just a preview, and it will improve in future build
it will, they already said that this is the first iteration and will be improved upon
BI will never, ever, add dynamic building destruction, this is how the buildings have always worked.
@@TheRealHuskIn Arma 3, some buildings can be destroyed piece by piece

they said this is just the first stage of the destruction and they are gonna continue to upgrade it and make it more realistic

the whole system is obviously still work in progress, many buildings don't even have destroyed modeles yet and simply disappear, give it time

I think the current fast building destruction is mostly this way because the gradual damage models are not implemented yet

Arma 3 was pretty good about chunks of houses being blown open. The more and more Reforger gets developed, the more and more I worry about arma 4.

Can you destroy the big church at Montignac or the big red roof building at Mil Base Levi?Asking for a friend
Yes however there is one building that you cant destroy which is the main HQ building on monti.

Ya if it only takes 1-2 mortar to destroy a building then I’m going to level the enemy towns as fast as I can.

It would take full artillery to collapse trees like that. Not mortars.
