I love our ability to seek out the others that are "boat weird ". Oh, and at 12:03 - "Lucky to have this piece of American racing history. " Spot on. And I think most boat owners agree, much better this evolution than on static display somewhere, even if funds for that existed.
The symbiosis of boating challenges and adventures, past and future(?!), creating human connections, experiences, that can benefit all that engage these great stories. Thx all
An amazing boat project. I briefly sailed an Open 60 and can confirm the transformation a few tonnes of water ballast makes to the angle of heel and speed. The heel reduced by 10-15 degrees and just accelerated to 20 knots! In colder waters, I would insulate the water tanks from the cabin. I hope they get the stability reviewed by a naval architect, I think Open 60's had a higher risk of capsize and remaining inverted.
Deeply moving sentiment. Such an honour to be trusted as the new caretakers of another's heart and soul. Beautifully captured and narrated story yet again. You start my weekends off so well. Bravo MCI, MCII custodians.
... I've been following Duracell since they first started on You Tube and want to thank you for highlighting them ... now I look forward to both your project and theirs ...thank you for allowing me to ride along vicariously ...
So cool I just subbed to their channel. I grew up in Port Townsend. PTHS class of 94. That remodel is looking sweet. Pretty Townsend has a rich nautical history. Annual wooden boat festival is fun
There you go - the BOC - stopped in Cape Town, there was a female skipper, Isobel Autissier, I was with sea rescue as a junior, and we would tow the yacht in once they crossed the finish line, and I was on the crew when we brought her boat in
Maya, so it's really something to go along with you to as you search for additional inspiration, because that's precisely what you provide for so many of us! I've got an old Catalina 22, MacGregor 19, Zodiak 10(?), Grumman 17' canoe all sitting in the back yard. They, and my loving and patient wife, are all hoping I get going this summer so someone gets in the water! Thanks for helping!! As far as my musical talents, I can play the radio....
What a dynamite story!…these guys are very cool , like you and Allie…the passion for excellence and adventure!…im sure you’re feeling much less overwhelmed with your project after seeing this massive undertaking ….I can’t wait to check in on them and of course, you guys! Thanks so much for sharing …im sure they appreciate the kindness of sharing their link with your huge audience… Cheers to you beautiful souls!
when you said another utuber in port townsend we all thought Leo and tally ho , now that would be a collab !! the two best sailing channels out there , This was an excellent story, Duracell will make an exciting yacht, with a fantastic back story it should have an amazing turn of speed . We can always dream of the great collab , maybe........some day ?
Just now watching this episode. Maya, fantastic interview, particularly interesting as I've been following the Duracell build for a year or better. Love following your builds and sailing experiences.
I was just pointed to this project by the cool family of the Sailing Melody channel and then binged through all the episodes. Now you have done a lovely job of introducing them to a much wiser audience. It's an amazing project that deserves lots of attention. So happy for you to get a well deserved reset. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to with your newfound energy.
Crazy, I was just reading my latest Cruising World magazine on the Duracell project this Easter morning, recovering from Covid. I finished the article, picked up my iPad and up pops a picture of Duracell on Sailing Magic Carpet, crazy, incredible story
Great story telling and eye opening treat. I binged the Duracell Project and rewatched this story. You guys took me along on your retreat and I am richer for it. I enjoyed you transitions , music, and noodles in cheek humor.
so crazy to watch this, because I started watching their channel, then stumbled upon yours and have been binge watching. I'm no sailor but loves boats, boating and the sea and have some exposure to yachting via working at the Cape To Rio, Volvo Ocean Race, and also some experience with Vende having done some TV work during the Cape Town stop overs - plus worked along side John Martin who skippered Grinaker, and als he skippered Tuna Marine, another famous SA skipper was Bertie Reed - so all of this brings back so many memories
More than one I know had been salivating at Duracell. Most with at least one boat in hand. Good to see who it wound up with to continue. Many projects and dreams in the same area as is mine still.
Nice story Maya, pleased you guys have met, Mike Plant is a legend , he’d be very pleased that Duracell is in such good hands with Janni and Matt, it’s come a long way since you made the video , must have had a torrid time trying to stop Matt and Alandino from talking technicalities on boat building😂 GL
Brilliant story telling Maya! I hope these two have the "where with all" to reconfigure this American treasure! It would be cool if Duracell is electric powered when refitted!
Wow, just what a Brilliant vidclip. Yopur narration is Stunning, so full of inspiration and 'Love' .... You managed to convey information that I did not manage to pick up from Matt and Janni.... Thanks so much, Very best for Your Channel.... Now just Another Sailing / Boat Building vidclip to my Extensive 'Subscribed' List .... Cheers to ALL from ChCh, NZ
I cant imagine you not visiting Leo who's building Tally Ho in Port Townsend boat yard. That's as exciting or more because he's rebuilding a 110 year old boat more or less from scratch. I would think this wood boat adventure is more up your alley.
I also watch Duracell Project. I so glad you met them you guys have a lot in common. He is doing some amazing fiberglass work with Duracell. You should do a follow up video and see how much it has changed.
Great video. I’ll be binging on both of these sailing channels over the next few weeks. You might also like to know that that isn’t a mountain goat it’s a somewhat stylized bighorn sheep.
A very interesting and compelling video Maya, I have linked to them and will take a look after I finish with you here. I hope everything is going well with "Magic Carpet II", and you can start to see a finish date--I know it won't be soon. Take care of each other, be safe and refit on.
Thank you very much! This was a very interesting video. I loved it. Will most likely watch it again. Also Thank you for turning me towards "the Duracell project" I will surely enjoy it as well as learning about "Coyote" again, thank you!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤜🤛✌
that sailor you refer to who was rescued, was John Martin. he was rescued (if memory serves) by fellow South African, Bertie Reed. Now I know why Matt's boat Duracell rang such a bell for me
"Coyote" The Mike Plant Story is a must see video (Amazon Prime has it). There is more update about what happened with Coyote as she lost her fin keel ballast bulb during the Atlantic passage to Les Sables-d'Olonne.. Very well presented interview with Matt and Janni (Janneke) that for sure will keep the Mike Plant legacy alive..
That’s so funny we were in port townsend the same time as you guys! We were working on the fishing boat Tradition, right next to the Tally Ho shop! The owner of the Tradition used to also own the Rocky B, which you have a clip of! Too bad we missed meeting you! We are off to Alaska for cod season!
I kayak in the Bay Area in Ca. I just saw a mast from BMW Oracle racing sitting on top of a shed in the Emeryville ship channel. Looks to be about 80’ all carbon. It’s been there for a while. KKMI in Point Richmond is the yard I think.
Fabulous thrilling vessel. I suppose speed comes with a higher risk of collision and damage. Seems like cutting edge forward sensors could help reduce some risk.
If you're looking to see the Open 60 "Dog Bark", she' parked in Port Hadlock Marina. Across the dock from a converted Norwegen Fishing boat converted to a family cruising boat that's been converted and sailed by one man and his wife, that live in Port Townsend. Very interesting people.
It's always fun watching your videos. The mural reminds me a lot of Norway with high mountains, fjords and a ram. If I remember correctly, has Nianie? relations with Norway. I think you should somehow save the painting, maybe it's Baksy. You both give a distinct impression of being Scandinavian even though you are American. I'm Swedish but with a typical Norwegian first name. The huts under the bench should line up with the bench. Let the huts stand slightly askew underneath. I agree with you that there are a lot of angles inside. It is important to simplify the appearance, so the impression will be calmer and hopefully more beautiful. Architects usually say "it's important to take a holistic approach"
Another Open 60 is being refitted and converted as a family cruiser in Fiji by Joanna and Timo. They' bought their boat, now named Nv in New Zealand just after Covid broke out. Designed and raced by Hungarian Nandor Fa, also in the Vendee Globe,. The yacht has also raced the Sydney Hobart. Here's a link to their Sailing Nv UA-cam channel: ua-cam.com/users/SailingNV
excelllent prank on the youtube watchers i found the durcell guys a few monthes ago and signed up for thier journey as much as i like woooden boats. sadly so many classic plastic boats and being cut up after years in yards. moderan race boats have a very short shelf life being so extreme. the orginal open 60's are a good platform to build on in many cases massively over built and strong. personally id go for a ketch rig short masts and heavier keel.
Y'alls adventures are always so very interesting. Can't get enough of your podcasts. Wished I knew how to sail! I've had a yearning to learn but no sail boat and over the hill in age. May God bless your refit and your travels. Happy blessed Easter to you both.
Thank you for this awesome video. I immediately subscribed to their channel. I mentioned this in last weeks video, but it would be cool if you guys made a set of stairs like Duracell has for their boat. It would be safer and, I believe make your project go faster. Thanks again!
Thanks for telling our story so beautifully, Maya! We love it :)
I love that boat :)
@@RachaelSA we love that you love Duracell :)
I'm really enjoying the Duracell rebuild
So stoked for you two, and stoked to follow your journey as well!! ♥️✌🏼⛵️
Its just a boat but this story brought tears to my eyes. Thx SMC for sharing it. beautifully expressed.
I love our ability to seek out the others that are "boat weird ". Oh, and at 12:03 - "Lucky to have this piece of American racing history. " Spot on. And I think most boat owners agree, much better this evolution than on static display somewhere, even if funds for that existed.
Well done. Artistic. Such a trip down memory lane. Been watching The Duracell Project since b4 your documentary and wow they've come a long way.
So cool! Just found this amazing video. So nice you guys are hanging out, we’ve recently discovered the Duracell project and really love it!
A very cool project indeed, just like yours!
and both of your journeys continue... into 2023...
Duracell is priceless. This goes to show one can never put a price on the heart and soul of any thing. Thanks guys.
The symbiosis of boating challenges and adventures, past and future(?!), creating human connections, experiences, that can benefit all that engage these great stories. Thx all
thank you for showing this video.
I'll check out Duracell project. What Matt and Janneke are doing on such a beautiful boat looks amazing.

Port Townsend has been one of my favorite towns.
What a great story! Maya, your narration is so soothing as usual.

So cool I just subbed to their channel.
I grew up in Port Townsend.
PTHS class of 94.
That remodel is looking sweet.
Pretty Townsend has a rich nautical history.
Annual wooden boat festival is fun
Pizza to die for for sure. Haven't been to the festival in years.
What a unique boat.
It's like turning an F1 car into an RV.
Love the spaces inside - it's incredible.
There you go - the BOC - stopped in Cape Town, there was a female skipper, Isobel Autissier, I was with sea rescue as a junior, and we would tow the yacht in once they crossed the finish line, and I was on the crew when we brought her boat in

Maya: Your story telling made this boat and it's refit the most stunning thing in recent naval history! Great job!

Your narration is captivating and your film making is superb Maya.
Yes, her soft voice makes her storytelling captivating !
Just now watching this episode. Maya, fantastic interview, particularly interesting as I've been following the Duracell build for a year or better. Love following your builds and sailing experiences.
I just love what you’re doing.

Aren't algorithms great. Totally tracked and data mined.
Great story telling and eye opening treat. I binged the Duracell Project and rewatched this story. You guys took me along on your retreat and I am richer for it. I enjoyed you transitions , music, and noodles in cheek humor.
I just came across Project Duracell just before I saw this video.
Thanks!
Thanks again Dana!!
An amazing project! Thank you for sharing this!
I’ve been watching the Duracell project for a while. I really am looking forward to seeing your next vlog and the progress on Magic Carpet 2
Beautiful, wonderful story Maya - you tell it so exquisitely........Love it. I'm happy for you that you 'got away' - it's always a great reset.
Ambitious project. Amazing boat. I enjoyed this.

She’ll be electric-diesel hybrid I believe.

you can almost feel the power from keel to masthead on Duracell ,I will be following both journeys from here
I like the dropped-down quarter berth idea! Good use of 3D space.
I cant imagine you not visiting Leo who's building Tally Ho in Port Townsend boat yard. That's as exciting or more because he's rebuilding a 110 year old boat more or less from scratch. I would think this wood boat adventure is more up your alley.
Something about that boat shook my soul. Absolutely beautiful lines and a great story. I will be following along. Thank you!
I also watch Duracell Project. I so glad you met them you guys have a lot in common. He is doing some amazing fiberglass work with Duracell. You should do a follow up video and see how much it has changed.

I came across Matt on his first video of Duracell and have been watching ever since ,also watched the Mike Plant story an amazing guy
A very interesting and compelling video Maya, I have linked to them and will take a look after I finish with you here. I hope everything is going well with "Magic Carpet II", and you can start to see a finish date--I know it won't be soon. Take care of each other, be safe and refit on.

What a great story and beautiful boat. Thanks Maya.
Excellent story! Looking forward to following their build thread!
She was beached in a hurricane in Jamestown, RI once too. Wow. Cool to know about this project.
Wow, I'm so fascinated by those immense ballast tanks! They must have one HUGE (and spendy) pump to keep them trimmed
Great episode and yes I'm going to their channel to see what's up. Don't worry though I won't leave you two and Magic Carpet ll
Nice video. That's a great big sailboat and a long project promising a load of content.
Glad for your reset … thank u 🇨🇦
Let’s support The Duracell project with a few bucks as they shoestring along remaking her in the best way possible!
Fascinating story. You find so many cool things.
What an amazing story I've been watching Duracell refit videos for a while but I didn't know the story behind it thanks guys for another amazing video
Good to hear of people with vision drive and courage. I wish them well.
that sailor you refer to who was rescued, was John Martin. he was rescued (if memory serves) by fellow South African, Bertie Reed. Now I know why Matt's boat Duracell rang such a bell for me
PT is one our favorite towns. We will be there in about 10 days on our way to Iceland.
super interesting and thoughtful episode!... hope you have time to visit and tell the story of other like minded folks! thank you!
What a wonderful story they have.... Looks like they have a lot of work ahead of them.... :-)) xx
Very good story, thank you very much🙂
I liked the story about this racing boat a lot. To give her a 2nd life after more than 20 years it’s so great 😍
"Coyote" The Mike Plant Story is a must see video (Amazon Prime has it). There is more update about what happened with Coyote as she lost her fin keel ballast bulb during the Atlantic passage to Les Sables-d'Olonne..
Very well presented interview with Matt and Janni (Janneke) that for sure will keep the Mike Plant legacy alive..

That was terrific., thanks.
Amazing story and I hope to follow it further.
This made me cry it's so beautiful.
Wow just finished watching the Mike Plant story and stumbled across your video , seem you have a very famous yacht.
No Thanyou for showing me the honest open heart and soul of another fabulous parallel couple of seafarers 🙏🖖🏻😜🕸
Great diversionary inter mezzo!
Awesome story!
Thanks
I worked on Michaels boat (Airco) in Jamestown,RI…. Interesting man
Thank you for another great video

Wonderful story! Amazing narration, Maya! We can’t wait to watch Coyote. Thanks for sharing this! ♥️✌🏼⛵️
What an extensive and lovely project .
They should be very carrefull of thé weight with this hull .
I’m sure Mike Plant has a huge smile looking down at you guys :-)
Wonderful storytelling tempo
great video happy easter

When everyone gets their boats in the water I would love to see, Duracell, Magic Carpet, Sailing Yaba, and Odd Life Crafting meet up!!!
And Tally Ho !
Shouldn't you add Tally Ho as well ?
I loved this episode. And you're really good story tellers
Really amazing, you doing, the boat, the story. From where you got the knowledge doing all this in a boat?
Nicely done
Great content. Thank you.
Thanks for watching and commenting Jeffrey!
Well done!
A very interesting video. Unrelated to sailing, who is the singer that plays starting at minute 21? Terrific!
Y'alls adventures are always so very interesting. Can't get enough of your podcasts. Wished I knew how to sail! I've had a yearning to learn but no sail boat and over the hill in age. May God bless your refit and your travels. Happy blessed Easter to you both.

great stuff
I can't keep silent alny longer. The linear motion of the stars in the intro really freaks me out! Other than that, you guys are doing great though!
Be careful: the mountain goat might be responsible for the ramming of the freighter!
Small correction: bighorn sheep, not mountain goat
🤣🤣
