To which you’d reply yes or no.

It depends on what you mean by moral or immoral, and different people have different views and standards of morality.
Torture on its own might be easy to consider immoral, you might be torturing someone who'e innocent, or someone who's guilty but doesn't necessarily have any extra information.
Or you might torture someone and find out their 20 friends all plan to carry out bomb attacks and you'll potentially save a lot of lives.
Which is why it's more reasonable to stick to the clearly-defined boundaries, such as "we did things according to the rules", which she says here in the video. Moral or immoral is potentially subjective, but they did whatever was necessary, and legal, at the time.
Answering either a plain yes or a plain no would both paint her in a very bad light, and that's why she's evasive. If she says yes, she's the CIA director who allowed torture even though she thought it is immoral. If she answers no, she's the CIA director who believes torture is not immoral. Lose-lose.

Like I said if you have nothing to hide and you’re following the laws and regulations you can answer a question without pulling shit out your ass. In my opinion, I’ve watched enough of her clips asking long complex questions to everyone of the people she’s interviewing and about 99% of the time she only wants a yes or no answer. I think she does that to make herself look more knowledgeable than she really is. To me, by asking those types of questions she knows she’s not going to get just a yes or no answer so that’s her way of trying to make the person she’s interviewing look incompetent or whatever because in most cases they are way more intelligent than she is so she tries to embarrass them. I also believe she is trying to throw whatever power she has around and throw them off their game so she looks like smart one. There is a way to ask questions and get the answers you want without intimidating the person or maybe that’s what she’s after. I feel that I’m pretty intelligent and wise as a middle aged person and I’d hate to be questioned by her because I would know what’s coming. I’d have to practice a lot. Lol Now after saying all of that I don’t think she really cares about the answer she just wants to put on a show. Who knows what’s going on in her head.
I know I'm a year late but this a trapping technique used by police as well during interrogations. No matter the answer, the interrogator will always have something to try to sway it to their direction. Like when Harris asked if torture was immorally wrong, knowing a CIA director could never answer that truthfully in public without it reflecting negatively on herself or the agency.

She's asking questions that require explanation, yet is demanding that Haspel give a simple answer. Also if you can see through what questions she asks, you can see she's trying to push a narrative/agenda (which isn't uncommon at all for politicians to do) that would favor Harris' viewpoints. Even when Haspel said that the CIA gained information through terrorists and said they did not use torture, Harris came back and said "So yes you used torture" (or at least implying that the CIA used torture) which completely contradicts what Haspel said. This is the type of manipulative tactics that politicians and media like to used to press people into a corner and say/agree with points they didn't even make in the first place. It was very apparent that Harris was getting annoyed and even frustrated at her comments even though she didn't realize her questions required explained answers.
No , don't fall back on the old dependable " complex matters require complex answers & " nuance": they were Yes/No answer questions. Moreover torture failed to acquire much useful info. as many of the torture victims were innocent, some of these even fabricating admissions, confessions .

@@wasatchm have you read the senate select committee on intelligence's full report on the use of enhanced interrogation techniques? like, any of it? serious question, because if you read the report in full you'll start to see the problems with the CIA's program, most notably that not only was waterboarding applied almost universally even after the CIA was warned against using the techniques by other members of the US intelligence community (in many cases it was used repeatedly on innocents who were arrested and detained based on faulty or plainly incorrect information), it was also completely useless. In fact, in more than one, more than two, more than five, and more than TEN cases, the people being waterboarded gave FALSE information under stress, just to make the waterboarding stop.
I'm not going to ask you to have sympathy for anyone, especially innocent civilians like Khalid el-Masri (who was completely unrelated to any terrorism in any form beyond being of Levantine descent), because I know you're not capable of it, but at least think about how insanely retarded the program was in terms of meeting the goals it was set to meet.
