you know she could just admit she tortured people, and say she regreted it. and i would be ok with that and confirm her. you have said nothing to convince me that indeed your moral compass is strong, quite the opposite. if we want to send a clear message about our moral stance on torture, we don't confirm this woman.

She didn't give an answer about whether she now thought that the CIA's torture program "in retrospect" was right or wrong. Other senators asked her the same question.

CIA should never tell terrorists in advance what it will -- or will not -- do in questioning them. All this moral posturing is absurd.

As per Hitlers orders. 'It was legal and just following orders'? Where have we heard that before? Seem to me that this defence used in the past ended up on the gallows.

I do not believe the CIA director has the luxury of deciding what is and what is not "moral" given only that she follow the law. She is not a judge, and not a litigator. Congress and the supreme court have that responsibility. If she challenges a law, she may request clarification, nothing more.

That really doesn't impress me because she's not the person or people who made enhanced interrogation legal in the first place. It's the House, Senate and former president who made it legal. What's the point in questioning a lower level worker who was just following orders? Who gave the orders?

Boy 15 years ago most people would have agreed to anything for 911 fight back to be done. How some they forget when it’s more convenient for them to judge things by today’s standards. Another day : another time. Not too hard to understand.

A good half of the country knew it was torture and opposed it from the outset, most of the world knew it violated the Geneva Conventions. This is why it was a signature issue for the Obama campaign in 2008. This standard was set in 1949, not 2009. We're not conveniently forgetting history, you are.

There is a difference between legal and moral. There is a difference between good and evil. Sometimes Evil is not good but necessary AT THAT TIME. Read Old Testament what by today’s standard was evil and not understood was necessary for the greater good.

      Bec B.
I can picture you in a courtroom, using that same argument to convince the judge.
Something like "yes judge, I beat my wife and molest kids, but I read it in the Old Testament, and when I did it it was necessary"

morals are subjective and always changing based on the situation. even if you call them core moral values.
You don't believe in harming and killing anyone, but when faced with a choice that could make you and or force you to do something you normally would not. A straight yes or no moral question goes out the window for most all humans with a conscious in certain conditions.

Democrats love playing the gotcha game. It doesn't matter what her feelings are, it matters what's legal and what her orders are. If she is instructed by her superiors that the direction she's been given is legal, then she follows it or faces punishment for refusing to comply with a direct order!
