CAF Warrent Officer James Topp is marching across Canada and has written some very powerful words as to why.
"We are adrift on an ocean of information on a raft. We have elected a leadership that has taken upon it self to hold the only cup available and call it a holy vessel. They dip that cup in the ocean and call it the only approved source of water. Anyone who has the temerity to suggest that there is water all around us is castigated and shunned. It is stunning to behold."
    Symbolism happens.

Today at the Mass, in Catholic Liturgy, we have read the part of the story of David where he gets the chance to kill Saul, but doesn't. I was reflecting exactly about how this is akin to our situation, as an illegitimate power raises and raises, and tries to take everything, and it is our duty to resist, but in a manner similar to what David did! This was a very elucidative lecture. I will surely rewatch it later

"When David saw that his servants were whispering to one another, he perceived that the child was dead. So he asked his servants, “Is the child dead?”
    “He is dead,” they replied.
Then David got up from the ground, washed and anointed himself, changed his clothes, and went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they set food before him, and he ate.
“What is this you have done?” his servants asked. “While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but when he died, you got up and ate.”
David answered, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, ‘Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let him live.’ But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.” 2 Samuel 12:19-23

Brilliant. Saul was a giant of sorts: "From his shoulders upward he was taller than any of the people." (1 Samuel 9:2) Saul's biggest concern is always the favor/control of the people, which is why he supplanted Samuel's role in making the sacrifice. Too much flesh.

"Afterward, David’s conscience was stricken because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s robe. So he said to his men, “The LORD forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the LORD’s anointed. May I never lift my hand against him, since he is the LORD’s Anointed.”
With these words David restrained his men, and he did not let them rise up against Saul. Then Saul left the cave and went on his way.
After that, David got up, went out of the cave, and called out to Saul, “My Lord the King!”
When Saul looked behind him, David bowed facedown in reverence and said to Saul, “Why do you listen to the words of men who say, ‘Look, David intends to harm you’? Behold, this day you have seen with your own eyes that the LORD delivered you into my hand in the cave. I was told to kill you, but I spared you and said, ‘I will not lift my hand against my lord, since he is the LORD’s Anointed.’
See, my father, look at the corner of your robe in my hand. For I cut it off, but I did not kill you. See and know that there is no evil or rebellion in my hands. I have not sinned against you, even though you are hunting me down to take my life."

Excellent presentation. For those who have unfortunately experienced narcissistic abuse first hand…king Saul’s actions here certainly are parallel and suspicious for narcissistic personality disorder in the way David is “targeted”…in the way he attempts to usurp the priesthood…in the way he envies…in the way he does NOT take appropriate responsibility for his own shame but acts to wipe David out of existence. Despite all of this (not forgetting his marriage to Michal and his love for Jonathan), David still loved Saul

  • @Okayand33
    @Okayand33 2 роки тому +2

Thanks for the upload! Yeah the story of David is extremely vivid. It's especially confusing if you dont have the symbolic eye for it. My favourite part was when tribes east of the Jordan agreed to cross over and help David. At this time Israel was somewhat fragmented, so to bring all the tribes together is a great feat in and of itself. The imagery used to describe the Eastern warriors alongside the mountains as if they're cherubim is the closest ill ever get to having a drug-induced hallucination
Abraham Lincoln also played the role of a conservative rebel. Despite being a "Radical" alongside other abolitionists, he wasn't shy when it came to dealing with those in favor of slavery and making small concessions. He understood how illogical it was of championing yourself as "home of the free" while enslaving a large portion of the population. It was in remembering these fundamental flaws that he took action to correct them while staying true to his beliefs through trying times. It was his 'vision' along with this faith-based morality that gave him the conviction to go against the crowd and do something for the greater good.

Awesomely insightful. In a deeper more metaphysical and politically thorough exploration of this same framing, Camus in his book The Rebel delineates this dilemma almost exhaustively. Interestingly St. Augustine is very much a formative part of his struggle to understand the phenomenon of life and the proper way of responding to it outside of the institution that no longer seemed willing or able to provide the way forward.

It reminds us that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Is it lawful to heal? etc. I love also that you bring up feigned madness, the madness of the fools for Christ who appear in times of great static social life and rigid control -- and let us not forget Christ's family also said He was beside Himself

I see the shift partially in terms of the Lucas Star Wars movies. In the prequel movies, the system is "as it should be": the Republic is the reigning power (ordered liberty), the Jedi are esteemed and authoritative; the Sith are shifty, working behind the system to undermine and destabilize the Republic/Jedi by exploiting their respective weaknesses.
In the originals, the tables have turned: the Sith have gained power (chaotic tyranny), and it is the Jedi -- guardians of order and light -- that have to take on the role of shifty, manipulators in the shadows (allying with the literal "Rebels") to subvert the subvertors and restore harmony.

My friend and I were just talking about this yesterday. Following David's example for how to deal with the current evil authority. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on my talk concerning translating anthropos as man and not human.

This was very helpful as I determine my course of action regarding what to do with the criminal organization we call government in America.
I will speak truth loudly, and condemn the genocidal monsters that have risen to the top of our hierarchies. And when they come to oppress or kill me for it, I will accept that persecution with excitement and joy.
The worst they can do to me is return me to the Father, and crumble their own evil empire in the process.
Some day we will all be free from the Enemy’s government. But for now, I know I am already free.
