I'm so happy you got to experience the Army life a bit. I was in for 10 years as an audiovisual combat photographer. I also went through airborne school at Ft. Benning and also was attached to the Golden Knights for their annual winter training. I made their annual winter training video back in 1998. But I got to get 3 tandem jumps with them, they are so awesome. So I'm glad you got to finally experience jumping out of a perfectly good airplane, nice job Michelle! Go Army!

It also shows your respect for other professions. Such as emt police firefighter etc. and this one was just a beautifully done as the others. Thank you for showing the emotional side you went through and showing just a glimpse of what these professionals go through. It is not something that comes out easily in a documentary. Thank you I appreciate you very much.

Is there a reason these are so short/rushed? It seems BONKERS to put in that much time, effort, pain, weeks of prep, footage, etc etc and just condense it to 14 minutes. It feels so rapid-fire, like we barely even get settled in to the meat and pace of it all. Just racing through totally new faces, job titles, tasks, locations for just a line -- more like an intro video or trailer.

    • @Kaalyn_HOW
      @Kaalyn_HOW 2 роки тому +148

(I also feel like you used to take a long, thoughtful moment to really explore the hard, serious issues within each job you're "trying on" - bc you really want to do it justice and at least explain with words what you can't know with your body in just a week. I know you've done soooo many now that it might feel repetitive or like people "already know", but each one is definitely unique and I know folks often watch them in isolation. To see "their thing". But you are also so in tune with people that you find the unique threads in everything.)

I think it's because statistically the algorithm favors videos less than 15/20 minutes and those are usually the ones with the most views. If it's too long a lot of people won't click on them, that's why a lot of the top UA-camrs seldom have more than 20 minute long videos

I really love these videos but recently I’ve disliked how short they’ve been for the past few episodes :( I really enjoyed the longer episodes because it led to a better understanding to the field and Michelle’s experience, and the shorter ones just feel like career ads because of how quickly each segment goes by. The production value is still amazing, but the amount of content in such a small amount of time makes it feel empty. I just miss the longer episodes

There's lots of swearing, people being at odds with eachother (at eachothers throats) petty differences and impending constant soldier correcting by DS (drill sargents) they wear and tear you down by punishing you and everyone around you until you get the job done which is called negative re enforcement which is something anyone can subject themselves to without having to contract themselves into the military, which operates in a very socialistic way where they punish the whole group for ones mistake and reward the whole group for ones hard work while pretending to fight for freedom, (freedom to choose which fast food joint you wanna eat at) that's the idea of freedom not actual freedom, otherwise they wouldn't use a socialist model to train them, pretty ironic huh?

I agree with the comments on this one, I would have loved to see more, maybe a longer cut. It's probably hard for the editor to take so many parts out and chop it down as well so maybe it would help both the editor and the audience. It's also the fact there's so much planning and work involved behind the scenes I think it deserves to get the most. Even if this ended up turning into like a two-part video I wouldn't mind.

instructors are always gentle and calm when it comes to serious things
they don’t want you to jump under stress because it just means trouble and potential injury
shouting and harassment is more of a circus and a choreography to discipline “young soldiers” and make them serious
Believe that you will not see the jump from the plane before the basic training is over, and then the harassment stops.

to be honest this is an army-sponsored recruitment video
      so
      a handsome colonel was chosen
and the best instructors were selected
the filming lasted for hours or rather days
      but a joke aside
when it comes to jumping off a plane and shooting with "live ammunition" then there is no joking and harassment
Everyone is aware that one wrong step is a disaster
that is why instructors are gentle and dedicated

I was a Marine and while I was in college, my girlfriend went through Army Airborne School. On her first jump, because she was so tiny (4'10", 80 pounds) they had her lined up as the first jumper. When the green light came on, the jumpmaster said "Goodbye Smurf" and literally kicked her out of the plane. She ended up landing on someone else's canopy. While he was yelling at her to get off his canopy, she gathered hers (which had collapsed), threw it up and it (luckily) caught the breeze. She finished the jump unharmed.

Edit: to the people saying "it's not propaganda, I got a degree blah blah" clearly you didn't pay much attention during your classes because the point went entirely over your head. I didn't say it was impossible to get a degree in the military, I said that this video is propaganda. Some people don't make it out of the military alive. For those that do, many are left with permanent disabilities, PTSD, alcohol addiction, etc. Many American veterans don't receive adequate healthcare and more die from suicide than from combat. This video is propaganda because getting a degree in the military can have significant costs -- not with money, but with your mental and physical health, and maybe even your life. But they don't tell you that in a recruiting center now will they?
