This is exactly what I have been dealing with for over 5 years now. It doesn't appear on X-Rays and the doctors I have seen seem to think there is nothing wrong, to the point where I have reached a limit to acquiring professional assistance in my community on Canadian healthcare. The pain, especially when the ankle locks up, is so severe that I have been out of work for 2 years without compensation. Thank you for explaining this injury. Hopefully I can now find someone to follow up on it and help me out. This injury has really altered my life for the worse. Best wishes.
I finally solved my own issue by altering my diet. Oddly enough, cutting out all dairy, wheat products, and foods containing MSG and palm oils, the pain went away. I can now jog again, have lost 20 pounds, and am back to work.
@@ryanlie6250 No, no tests at all, other than feeling the area with their hands and an X-RAY. Specialist informed me he would not see me until I completed a desired number of Physiotherapy sessions. Being unable to afford the treatments, I had given up hope, until changing my diet began to show an noticeable improvement in my condition.
I have electrical zaps of pain in this area even when resting and it’s excruciating . Am grateful to have found this . Does anyone suffer from this debilitating sort of pain ?
@Sharon Clark If you don't mind me asking , were you diagnosed with a reason for your pain . I've had 3 different diagnosis , Peroneal tendon Sural nerve , Mortons Nuroma ..
Did a 16 mile long run when my previous was only 10 and my weekly mileage was only 28 a week. I didn’t take a rest day the next 2 days and got this. Lesson learned
Yeah I had pain and weakness there. What helped me was standing calf raises. I had immediate relief after doing a 5 set and 5 rep workout. The ankle feels much better now.
I self diagnosed this condition myself as my first consultant said there was nothing wrong. I finally convinced them I had STS so they operated. I had some relief for a few months but it’s now back , the pain is incredible I’ve had various cortisone injections none of the helped. I don’t know of anything that helps the pain I’ve been living with this since 2015 it’s changed my life .
Wow!!!! finally!! I think that this is what I have! I've been trying desperately to find some self help videos and everything is mostly Achilles tendinitis or some other ligaments, finally I think I found it!!! Pretty much everything you were saying fits my profile!! And it's exactly what I was doing, trying to do those rolling motions to try and relieve the crackling and tendon grinding that is giving me sooo much pain!! It's not working 😩😩 exasperation comes to mind!!! I keep having pinched bloody anchor for NO reason at all!! Just walking!
I'm 66 with a history of many sprains while playing basketball in my younger years. Now I have sharp pains in right ankle in the area described in video when doing yard work (uneven surfaces) and on my feet for several hours. Pain, at times, will almost bring me to my knees to get weight off it. I wonder if I have this sinus tarsi syndrome. Haven't played ball in 35+ years.
I went from years of wearing heavy, steel toed work boots to fancy Italian leather dress shoes in one day, so I could look nice for some formal event I was attending. No support. Collapsed arch? By the end of the day I was hobbling to get home. Tons of pain, even while resting in bed. The pain can be so bad I lose the ability to stay upright; my strength in that foot totally disappears if I stand on it. It’s like a pinched nerve or tendon.
Did you try insoles 1st? I used SuperFeet green insoles & they REALLY helped. But recently, my left 🦶 is flaring up like a 🦂 sting every now & then even when I’m not on my 👣. Will be seeing a podiatrist soon
i rolled my foot off a deck on a job, this was a year in a half ago and the pain has gotten worse and worse. i have been in a brace for months and doing my own doc on it. Any advice?
I rolled my ankle severely while playing football 9 years ago. I've been dealing with this excruciating pain all these years & I just can't seem to get rid of it!
I used SuperFeet green insoles that fixed the pain. If I don’t wear them & walk in 👟 or 🩴, top of my feet get sore More recently, i was standing @ thought a wasp got in my left 👟& stung me. It felt what I imagine a 🦂 sting would feel like. I need to get it checked out again as this was far worse than when I was originally diagnosed several years ago & resolved w/insoles.
Can this cause the foot to fall asleep on long runs? I've been having an issue with pain in that area and my foot falling asleep while running. I train for triathlon and my foot will go numb within the 1st couple miles and stay that way for and hour then the feeling gradually returns. Nothing more annoying than running on a dead stump. I saw a doctor over year ago. They took an exray and only suggested a cortisone shot which I refused. The sinus Tarsi pain comes and goes and have run through the pain which only last about a mile in most cases, but the numbing is really concerning and slows my race pace. How do I present this to a expert to get it resolved? I don't want to walk in and say "I saw this on youtube". You can guess how that gets reacted to. Would a chiropractor be able to help vs a foot doctor?
If this is what I have then it’s the lost painful thing I’ve felt at time…. Would always happen mid way through my day, and after the day was over OMG the pain… the worse pain was actually having it suspended in the air…. Omg! Why was that the worst…
i often have this problem after standing too long and i am aware that my foot turns out and compress that ankle area. i believed this is a flat foot problem because my foot looks flat, but recently i did a "wet foot test" which i wet my feet and step on a cardboard to see the footprint. in that test i found i may actually have high arch, so i am really confused now
It is 100% a flat foot problem. It's worse if you're over weight doing 9 hours shift on your feet in uncomfortable steel toe cap shoes. It's unbearable
I hit my outer ankle on a hard metal object and I think it caused sinus tarsi. But its been 4 months and I still have it. Its gotten better though. Doctor gave me anti inflammatory which helps and an ankle brace. But why is it taking so long to heal? Its just an annoyance and I cant do normal hikes.
Dr where are you located? I’m in L.A I been suffering with this similar type of pain for 2 years since I had my Brostrom surgery on the opposite ankle. I noticed this pain when I was post-op and did not have necessary DME especially when I showered I put all my weight on my good foot😢😢 since then I’ve had this off and on with a few injections now becoming more frequent . I’ve had CT of the ankle early this year which did not show ligament abnormalities.
I have just been diagnosed with this along with Metatarsalgia. Plantar Fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma and a bunion . I’m so miserable. I have had surgery about 8 years ago for plantar fasciitis but didn’t get much relief. I’m on my feet all day at work and have a bulging disc as well from a old fractured vertebrae. The foot pain increases the upper back pain and makes me crazy. It’s depressing
Your spine has more to do with most, if not all of your foot problems, at the causative level, than you might realize. Look deeper into finding a GREAT Chiropractor, not just a good one. You need a great one & you will find more relief than you gotten in the last 8 years (very likely). Praying for your full recovery. May you be blessed & pain free. 💜
Can this be mistaken for ankle arthritis? I am about to see a foot specialist after 2 years of my ankle getting worse and worse. Especially at the top part where it bends. 😢.

It's been a a few weeks now, and the gout pain is gone, but this sinus tarsi pain is still present (?)
I sprained my ankle 20 years ago and have a large bulge from exactly that area. Dr said it is a limpoma. I broke that same ankle 3 years ago and had ORIF on both tibia & fibia with metal plates on both sides. The bulge today is the size of a golf ball and causes me a lot of pain. I cannot point my foot or move from side to side. Some nights after long day, the pain is excruciating. Could all this be Sinus tarsi syndrome? Dr said to have limpoma removed if causing pain but I’m not sure I want another surgery

The problem with doctors in general is all they do is try to get you out the door. Sometimes I think they are extra unhelpful so you won't bother them again. It just seems hopeless .
When I was 1st diagnosed about 12 years ago, they wanted to build me a custom insole that would’ve cost a lot even w/insurance. I asked if I could try something off-the-shelf - he said SuperFeet Green. I immediately felt the difference & they cost $30-$50. But recently, my left 🦶 is flaring up like how I imagine a 🦂 sting would feel. I was standing & actually thought a wasp got in my shoe & stung me there. Later when I was off my feet & barefoot, the pain would shoot hard. Time to go back to the Dr to see what can be done. I jump roped a few days ago for the 1st time in years (& several pounds later) & have a feeling that caused the flare up
Is it possible for an ankle sprain to turn into sinus tarsi about a decade after the injury? I have pain in my right ankle it doesn't hurt when I run or workout yet it hurts when I wake up so bad or when I'm more on my tip toes and it's been consistent for months now yet no pain if I run? it doesn't make sense also it feels as if my ankle will just break and collapse on its self sometimes?
Woke up this morning with pain you wouldn’t believe in my ankle im not sure if i sprained my ankle tendons again or its this but the pain was extremely bad.
