Thank you so much. This was really informative and it's always nice to have the specific research discussed being cited. A am in recovery from a LAS that injured the LTFL and PTFL. I'm nearly back to running but wonder if you have any tips for the mental side of things? My brain has been massively protecting the problem area for around three months now and I just can't seem to bring myself to jog and am terrified of the dynamic stresses put on the joint in my other activities - playing squash and climbing. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

This was the assessment I received:
    - Closed nondisplaced fracture of medial malleolus of left tibia, initial encounter
    - Grade 2 ankle sprain
Its barely been a week. The Orthopedic dr. said I have to wear the boot and crutches all the time except for showering.
Do you still recommend following this and not taking the boot off at all?

    Hey!
I just had a very recent ankle sprain that got much worse after another sprain a week later from the original one.
I watched your video and found it very informative, it explained how I literally got my first sprain. Thank you very much!
So, story short I fell around 8 days ago and a week later, I walked a few steps without the elastic support, and suddenly I was all over the floor and this is when I realized this 2nd fall got me way worse.
In that first week, I tried to relax the first couple of days, but very quickly I resumed my Yoga and bit by bit, started to treat my ankle as if it was not injured, I was still off from work though.
After my 2nd fall, I got too scared, especially that my doctor advised me to wear a removeable immobilizer for 3 weeks and I am too scared this could be an ongoing condition where I could fall anytime I am walking or running or doing anything of the sort.
I work as a Flight Attendant and our uniform standards will not allow me to wear an ankle support whilst on duty.
Questions are, if I have a complete torn of all three ankle ligaments, how long it takes them to fully recover? And, After how many days I can start the strengthening exercises for my ankle?
    Lastly, any advises please?

1week till swelling goes away then 4-8weeks in HARD CAST.... then you need around 4 weeks of terapy to walk like human again.
You did good but you made mistake...dont streach YOGA EALRY, Dont walk on it... If you relaxed for 2-3weeks without cast and heat-cold leg you be fine..... NOW YOU NEED 6weeks+

Sorry sir you did not grade the ankle injury & use of plaster slabs in grade 3 or grade 4 injuries asfar as I understand ligaments get stretched or torn depending on the grade of injury role of scans & the need for immobilization for sometime for the ligaments to heal in position to prevent laxity of ligaments & future instabilities ihope I'm correct pls update

I had a really bad inversion sprain over 5 months ago now, my ankle looked like there was a golf ball inside of it, initial X-ray didn’t reveal anything… but now I’m getting pain on the INSIDE of my ankle from simple treadmill running and I can’t take more than 5-10 minutes of it. Any idea why?

Would love to know a little more detail on timelines of each of these phases. E.g. do the ROM exercises last for 3 days or up to a week before you begin basic strengthening? Obviously will depend on injury severity

    • @ClinicalPhysio
      @ClinicalPhysio  Рік тому +2

Hi! A good way to think of this is to move on when patients can achieve certain markers, rather than based on time. E.g. ROM and gentle weight bearing exercises can be progressed to strengthening when patient has full weight bearing and 3/10 pain for example…… We have gone through this on a webinar with top sports physio (Max Verstappens Physio) which is part of our membership (member.clinicalphysio.com)

Yeah, I'm on my 5th week of ankle injury (no idea how I did it). My pain is around my ankle on both sides. I'm doing exercises and I'm really struggling with inversion and resisted plantar flexion, my foot just starts shaking and eventually drops. I'm elevating and icing, I'm using elbow crutches (meaning I can't swing the leg in the air, I have to put weight on it) and after 5 weeks, I still can't put any weight on the leg. Even walking with crutches I need to take regular breaks as the pain builds up and without the ankle feels like jelly and I'm struggling to not collapse with every step. Doctors just told me to 'keep doing what you're doing' and I see no improvement at all.

Thanks for your information it was useful and wonderful, 18 months ago I got inversion during a football match however I did an X-Ray but it didn't show anything and the doctor told me that it is not serious go and rest for a few days then slowly start your exercises again after rest I have done after rest when I started doing sport pain started again until it became worse.
I have referred back to doctor he told me to do MRI and the following is the result of MRI:
    1. Subchondral fracture of dome of talus bone with associated surrounding moderate edema.
    2. Mild free fluid in tibiotalar joint space.
    3. Sprain of anterior tibiotalar ligament.
since that time I have used different medicines under treatment of doctor the front pain is solved but still pain suffers me from the right side and back of ankle some them of doctors say that there is no need for surgery it will be ok in the feature but some says that it wouldn't be back to its normal situation and also no chances of surgical operation. And one thing to be mentioned that there is no instability of ankle I can walk even run but after the muscles becomes cool starts its pain looking forward for your kind instructions.

@deborahraaen Hi ! I sprained my ankle 2.5 weeks ago pretty bad, high sprain , luckily nothing was ruptured (Achilles) just a bad sprain, took work off and did the stretching elevation religiously for pass 2 weeks, added soaking in warm bucket off water after 1 week, iced for first 2-3days for swelling purposes. Now mixing it up with warm soaking MORE than ice because it heals quicker. Swelling has gone done drastically basically gone but ankle & Achilles is stiff so now stretching exercises, limping to make sure not to hurt it ( super cautious). I bought a topical cream call PRO & it’s unbelievable especially after day 2 ! It contains lidocaine & Phenol, you can get it at CVS , please try it if your ankle is still hurting ! I was kinda reluctant because I don’t think anything works 😂 but I’m super glad I tried it, tell me what you think ! Hope you feel better 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎😎😎😎😎😎
