To be fair though they did come up with some brilliant comebacks Dalek: The Cybermen are greater in only one respect. Cyberman: What? Dalek: You are better at dying.
People often misinterpret logic as a concept. Logic is a method of achieving a result, but it can't give you a goal. People say it isn't logical to do stuff like cry at a sad movie, but logic only follows 'if this, given that, therefore a conclusion'. So if the movie I'm watching is making me sad, given that I cry when I'm sad, therefore it's logical to cry. But if the movie I'm watching isn't making me sad, or it isn't given that I cry when I'm sad, then it wouldn't be logical to cry because there's no causal through-line. Daleks are perfectly logical, their goal is just a really dumb one; to destroy all non-dalek life, to the exclusion of all else.
@@equidistanthoneyjoy7600 Doctor #4 (Tom Baker) said it best to Davros Doctor "Nelly is Pink." Doctor "Nelly is an elephant." Doctor "Therefore all elephants are pink. Logical?" Davros "Perfectly" Doctor "But a human would say 'That's silly, elephants aren't pink.' Your logic is based upon a faulty first premise" Davros "Humans do not understand logic!"
@@autobotstarscream765 Klansmen didn't want to exterminate all species or even all ethnicities that weren't white. The Daleks would have been a 100th the villains they were if they were human clansmen.
I guess one of the things that makes the Daleks so likeable is just how ridiculous they are when you think about it: Robot mutant space nazis in tanks with napoleon complexes and literally no indoor voice. They're like the snow when you're an adult: no matter how annoying it is, you can't help a small, tiny part of yourself from being just a little bit happy every time it turns up.
Agreed. Despite me not being a massive Whovian, truth be told I do actually love the Daleks. Flawed and laughable in so many ways, but at least they are close to being truly original.
Same, they have their weaknesses, but I am used to seeing them soak up thousands of bullets and vaporize people, I couldn't help but chuckle at some of the classic scenes.
if you mean when Ace took one out with a bat you should know that was a bat supped up and modified by an alien intelligence (and also Ace was a 17-year-old child genius who invented a new kind of explosive in her college chem lab)
Dalek Sec was the only Dalek who actually realized that they were inferior because of their lack of human emotions. In fact the doctor mentions Dalek sec was the smartest Dalek ever. He actually felt that the Dalek way of life was wrong and made them inferior and if they didn't change they would face extinction. He tried to prevent this and was killed for his ideas. Before his death he warned them if they continued to choose death and destruction death and destruction would choose them.
Despite their blatant flaws, one of the reasons that I am still fond of the Pepperpots is that they were the rare exception to the pre-CGI law that "Members of an alien race that appear in greater numbers than two, will inevitably look like humans with funny noses and foreheads".
+Ted Moseby Who the hell said he was using a quote? There is no definitive quote for that, the fool would be you. Never heard of "A polished turd is still a turd"? Yeah, there are dozens of ways to say that and it's quite an easy thing to come up with, hardly some epic quote.
Kaled general: "Wow, I will have a 10 meter tall mecha body with shapeshifting and regenerative capabilities? You really are a genius, sign me up Davros!" (steps into the chamber) Davros: giggling maniacally, throws the bluepint he had shown into the trash can and pulls out a drawing of a mobile dustbin You can't convince me that that is not what had happened. Davros and his massive trashcan fetish

Well, after the doctor was the war doctor, he was anti gun, because the doctor wanted to forget the time war, the old who doctors used guns and were more violent because their before the war doctor.
I love how it’s taken as fact that the daleks reload by saying exterminate. If you even watched the clip with any context of the series, you’d know that the character was messing with the girl inside the dalek, not only that, there are times that a dalek has shot without ‘reloading’
I think it's more how they prime their weapon. Still flawed as they should be able to prime it without screaming "EXTERMINATE" But it seems like that's how they make the gun ready to fire. Like a charging handle and taking the safety off
The funny thing is when the plot wants Dalek's to be genuinely dangerous they're completely bulletproof and can turn very fast to wipe out and entire army platoon on their own, but then that very same Dalek will later turn like a rusted wagon wheel whenever the Doctor shows up and normal humans can literally just run around it. Basically the Daleks are only as competent as the plot currently requires them to be.
I always see the Daleks as the platoon destroyers and chalk anything else up to plot. My main guess is that, while they won't admit it, The Doctor genuinly scares them and that affects their movement.
chunky cheeza the thing about Doctor Who is that you can’t ever actually tell, the plot is so wild and poorly-constructed that literally anything any character says could be just a joke for 10 years and then suddenly be 100% canon
Dalek genetic engineering in a nutshell 1. We can’t come up with new ideas we need to make ourselves better 2. We have made ourselves better 3. Better Dalek: we need to do something different 4. Original Daleks: REEE! DIFFERENT! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! 5. We can’t come up with new ideas we need to make ourselves better
No, the root of all evil is ignorance. A good, stupid man will not go far, but he also won't do any harm, I know a few guys like that and some of the sweetest people I know aren't intellectually gifted. Better to be a decent idiot than a clever fool, and that's where ignorance comes in.
This may sound crazy but I was always more afraid of the Cybermen than the Daleks. I feel it’s better to meet an enemy with one emotion than no emotions.
Me too lol, especially in the episode where Cyber industries are creating them and they are going around breaking into people's houses like fascist soldiers to either bring you to a painful transformation into what is essentially an emotionless clone or to kill you if you don't comply. When watching that episode, I can't help but to imagine how terrifying that would be in real life, especially since there are so many instances where similar things did happen in real life, like with WWII.
I’m not a fan of DH in my point of view this is just stupid... I mean some of the story are interesting but most of the time I cannot follow this series because I can’t accept the ideas of the Sicfi
At the same time though it can go either way. Arrogance often leads to less innovation but can quite often have the opposite effect and lead to more innovation
In fairness to Captain Jack Harkness, he did get cornered on a space station, ran out of ammo, and he had no way to get out of that one at the time...and he didn't cry or break down. He gave a last witty one liner and accepted his death with some grace. AND then he was brought back to life, but he had no way of knowing that would happen
The Daleks actually did manage to create a dalek human hybrid that solved many of these issues but then they killed them because of ego and hatred, thematically it actually works quite well , their evil, ego and hatred led to their own destruction and continued weakness, had they been more accepting of new ideas and others they could have become better versions of themselves and been led into a golden age.
“It’s almost as if Dr Who isn’t supposed to be taken seriously” he says halfway into an almost 30 minute video talking about the problem with a race in Dr Who
They were and are a civilization, at least that is what they think. The problem is they were created by an insane scientist. They are an extreme metaphor for a flawed civilization built on war and hate that refuses (usually) to acknowledge its weaknesses. A more accurate dismissal of the video would be to say "The dalek civilization being too stupid to exist is the whole point of the daleks."
Regarding the Dalek's limited ability to interact with technology, I think this is why the older series almost always had them using humanoid slaves, servants, robots, pawns or such. But in the new series you have huge numbers of Daleks with no slaves or such at all, which makes far less sense. I think another issue is that, whilst the original Daleks definitely had weaknesses, most of their weaknesses were pretty intuitive. When shooting any creature, you generally aim for its vulnerable spots - and a Dalek's eye-stalk is an obvious target. Likewise, since they lack legs and roll/hover very close to the ground, you might well expect stairs and rough terrain to pose a problem for them. And it does. However, in the newer series, these problems are (sometimes) solved, but then their new weaknesses tend to be whatever is convenient for the plot. Which leads to a lot of stupid retconning and baggage that they're then stuck with forevermore (like the nonsense about saying 'Exterminate' to reload). Now, yes, the original weaknesses probably should have been removed. However, there is a reasonable reason why they weren't - the Daleks killed their creator. Davros was, after all, still working on the Dalek design at the time - but was forced to accelerate his plans when the doctor and others attempted to have his work suspended. Hence, the current Dalek almost certainly wouldn't have been the final model. Indeed, Davros even says to the Daleks that the men with him are scientists and can help them (again, probably thinking of refinements and such), but they ignore him and exterminate those men. And you could (and do) argue that this makes the Daleks too dumb to exist. The thing is though, that could well be (or have been) the *point* of the Daleks. Especially in the aforementioned Davros episode (Genesis of the Daleks) - they are so consumed with pride, hate and purity that they destroy those who could actually help see their plans to fruition. This was repeated again with Dalek Sec. Basically, the Dalek's own mindset dooms them to failure, civil war and self-destruction.
But Daleks are one of the great genius races of Doctor Who. Master engineers and scientists They don't need Davros to build them better bodies, they're smart enough to engineer their own.
The Daleks are actually pretty great, it's just that the show is very inconsistent in how it portrays their abilities. The orbs on their shell have sensors, so they can detect movement in a 360degree field around them. The Eye stalk is for spotting and targeting so they know where to aim the weapons. You shouldn't be able to sneak up on Daleks because they could detect you. You also can't touch them because they have a shield and a corrosive shell casing. They are space tanks, extremely tough with hefty firepower but bulky and not great manoeuvring. Relying on protection to compensate for their poor movement. They might not be the best at aiming quickly or shooting lots of targets, but they can take time since they're so durable. Also, they have slaves. If they need stuff built quickly and technology that requires manipulation with digits, they just create clone servants or whatever to do that stuff for them. It's often what they do with prisoners on worlds they enslave. I agree though their weirdest thing is their inability to breed which affects their purity. For a race of fascists they seem to really like putting inferior race's DNA into themselves. The emotions thing is horribly inconsistent also. They aren't supposed to feel anything except hate. So asking for mercy or forgiveness makes no sense, they fear nothing & regret nothing. Look at the Dalek Emperor - Faced with a delta wave mass annihilation he still called the Doctor's bluff. Didn't chicken out or cower, just sat there and said "do it". Because he knew deep down the Doctor wouldn't do it, and he didn't fear death.
Yeah, I agree with all your points, especially the emotions thing. I mean, yes, if they have Hate as their default primary emotion is something I can absolutely accept. But if they don't have fear when they obviously show it? No, it's just the show inconsistently showing the opposite side of the spectrum.
Richie 1138 I just kinda disappointed that it is kind of just a flanderization of the fascist mentality. I mean, I have no problem with evil Nazi villain, but if you want to say anything nuanced outside of cheese, you got to at least give them a simulacrum of them being possibly right. For example, the borg are not an innate evil, and from a specific stance you may say they are right. Though it’s understandable since the daleks were created so long ago when doctor who began.
And that was some of the best trash talk between Doctor Who's villains Dalek: We are superior beings. Cybermen: Incorrect, You are only superior in one thing. Dalek: What is that? Cybermen: Dying. (punctuated by Cybermen blasting all the Daleks)
The Daleks were far FAR superior to cybermen, don't you remember that episode at all? Four daleks fought through the most heavily defended building the cybermen had, from the basement to the roof, and not a single dalek died, but hundreds of cybermen did. They did all this whilst escorting a box that couldn't fight too.
Not really the point of the comment, but now I can't help but imagine Daleks having built in iTunes. They probably listen to Ride of the Valkyries on full blast every time they go into battle... which, come to think of it, would explain their need to shout all the time.
I do enjoy this series and it’s analysis of pop culture civilizations. I think what makes most of these civilizations seem “to stupid to survive” is that they’re not. Most of them are neither civilizations nor surviving. The Daley’s for instance aren’t a civilization. They’re artifacts of a fallen civilization. The remnants of a failed weapons program from an originating civilization so wide sweeping and entrenched that their inevitable decline takes thousands of years and costs billions of lives.
@@LadyDoomsingernot really. It just means you live just above the red line of death. Everyone is dying really slowly, the questions if you live a comfortable death.
11:25 to be fair though: that hacker was an insider (a malfunctioning Dalek). As mentioned somewhere around the canon of Doctor Who, normal Daleks are somewhat limitted in what they can possibly think of doing. Those limitations may have been removed or loosened from the hacking Dalek. The Daleks assume their design to be perfect though, meaning they would never expected the existence of such a Dalek. Thus in their IT-security-design they would operate under the assumption that an insider could never be the attacker. This false premise may be a very obvious one, but false premises are a very common source of failures, especially in IT-security. Also if you assume that every insider is friendly and always operates perfectly, then there is no reason why these perfect friendly insiders should be denied administrative access, since they would (according to your assumption) never be hostile and never make mistakes.

You forget that they are an evolutionary failure in every respect, yet they think they are superior to all other life. So they antagonise superior beings and get defeated every time.
To be fair, we have seen Daleks be some of the most dangerous foes on the show. And you wouldn't want to meet one in real life. Just imagine these things rolling past your window on the streets shouting "exterminate". Don't tell me you wouldn't shit your pants. Also, apparently they are much stronger in space, in controlled environments on their own spaceships, for instance. They just seem to be more incapable than they are described as because we always view them through the doctor's eyes, and he always wins.
@@Mr.kai1999 You've got to remember we've seen the whole slew of Dalek History, some can be beten by a good headbut, others would need a nuke to even be slowed down.
I usually consider Daleks to be laughable moving pepper shakers you couldn't possibly be afraid of. Until I did the "Doctor Who experience" and walked down a dark tunnel and suddenly saw one at the end.
Its inside the forcefield. That's why they have to "concentrate" fire on it. They have to overwhelm the forcefield. Everywhere else there is no guarantee that you'll cripple them. Blinding them is the easiest method. Although the periscope design is really dumb.
It is not outside the forcefield. Concentrated firing to one spot may penetrate the force field. I mean "Penetrate" in a way 1 bullet might go throught randomly. This doesn't make a hole in the forcefield and it does not reduce it's effectivenes. The 1 bullet would not damage any other part of the dalek armor.
The forcefield isn't very strong. C4 will kill any dalek. They immune to small arms fire which isn't hard but most energy weapons and heavy ballistics will overwhelm them.
I'm loving the compilation of Daleks flailing and falling off shit. The Daleks survive and thrive solely through plot armour. They are so stupidly impractical, and it's ridiculous how they're supposedly such a threat
Expected maybe a bit of competent writing in one of my country's most renowned tv series Them being mass produced trash is the reason we don't expect them to be a threat, but the show itself treats them as if they are, and creates contrived reasons for them to be such in spite of this That's where the problem lies.
@@themostbritishpersonalive868 Did you watch the video? and have you watched Doctor who?? Daleks have been rendered almost extinct numerous times, and the reasons they keep coming back were ridiculous. The one time they almost took over Earth properly, they had to open up a portal in time to retrieve the daleks from the time war. There were very few left. They were then all thrown through another portal out of the universe the Doctor lives in. The entire reason that had to happen is because Rose turned all Daleks to dust in Bad Wolf. This is what we mean by contrived reasons for the Daleks coming back and in numbers. They have been purged from the universe at least three times on a massive scale in the canon of the Doctor Who reboot. One during the time war, then in Bad wolf, then after taking over Earth That was the Daleks mass produced ancient army. Any left were stragglers with no way of actually rebuilding their numbers without the help of others. As a show of sheer force, the Daleks need the writing to bend in order to justify how they even keep reaching that power The whole plot of the human Daleks being that they can't reach considerable numbers and powers without fundamentally changing as a race.
On the depth perception thing, notice in the shot at 3:48 that the Dalek is seeing things at multiple depths and resolutions through the one eyestalk. The show is displaying it as an overlay, but presumably the Dalek brain sees all the depths simultaneously and composits them. It's a different form of depth-perception than we use but it should theoretically work just as well.
@@william3100 Daleks are cyborgs utilising technology in advance of anything we can imagine. If you're going to question that, you might as well ask if the sonic screwdriver or the TARDIS would actually practically work. We've seen that Daleks' sensor stalk gives them peripheral vision, focussing and presumably depth perception. How does that work? The same way as many things in the show: Sufficiently advanced technology.
@irrevenant3 yeah, but unlike the sonic screwdriver and TARDIS, the daleks eye stalk that is supposedly very superior despite being so painfully obvious that it wouldn't work, is too much. They didn't take the sonic screwdriver, and TARDIS, in a way in which they REALLY talked about the logistics of it, but they somewhat did that with how the daleks single eye could. As well as how the sonic screwdriver and TARDIS are more on the fantasy side in how they work, whereas the daleks eye stalk feels closer to reality in terms of how it would work. It's not fantastical enough to be ignored, and it's not realistic enough to make sense. Plus, it just adds to the rationalization of fear when it comes to making the daleks scary. Instead of making something that has good enough realism to feel grounded but still is scary and subtly adds to the terror, it just kinda sticks crazy stuff to small things that so obviously realistically wouldn't happen like a cartoon. Give the daleks actual arms? Nah, just give them a convenient impenetrable force field and a tiny laser that can destroy ANYTHING and perhaps can destroy the entire world just by shooting it in the ocean because why not(I know that doesn't happen in the show but it extremely exemplifies what my problem is with the daleks and how the show tries to make them scary)? It's like in a cartoon where we have a tiny box-shaped robot that can't be truly threatening at all, but the writers give it a whole arsenal of space weapons that are 50 times its size that it can pull out of its small three foot body? That's how I feel about making the daleks scary. If it's for comedy, it would work, but not for something that is meant to provoke real fear. The more the writers add to the daleks, the more silly and cartoony they seem to me. If you want scary daleks, give them an actual arm but still having the plunge-like hand(but less obviously generically plunger-like), make them bigger and heavier-looking, ditch the singular eye for multiple on all sides, give them a bigger gun that has multiple guns on it so it can destroy things in different ways, and give them new abilities like gravity manipulation, weather and climate control maybe, and other stuff to make them seem like the ultimate threat that the doctor has every right to fear.
@@william3100Basically anything is theoretically possible with sufficiently advanced technology. If this particular thing breaks your particular suspension of disbelief that's fine, to each their own.
@irrevenant3 there are limits to that, though. Things like super intelligent ai are possible in time, but things like perpetual motion machines are done right impossible. Also, how good daleks perceptions are is inconsistent. In that scene you referenced, it seemed somewhat good, but in other point of view, dalek shots, like towards the end of the episode "Bad Wolf," the daleks depth perception looks more realistically limited and poor. In a cartoony, obviously non scary sense, it's fine, but when it comes to showing that these beings really are this powerful force that even the doctor fears, it kinda takes that away, because you can't help but notice how terrible their vision is. Did I mention they can get rusty, too? Because in that same episode, the doctor says the dalek will get rusty if it stays under the sprinklers, and that perhaps the only reason it didn't was because it fed off of the DNA of Rose. Implying that other daleks don't have such luck, or bad luck in this case to them because this DNA mutated it. You would think such a highly advanced race who fought in a time war against other beings would at least be waterproof.
As an editor for a review series, I can say that hunting for clips in a TV show is the absolute worst, and definitely gives me a much greater appreciation for those clip shows everybody hates. You, meanwhile are editing Doctor Who and quote mining Star Trek... You can take all the time you need.
It's nice to find someone who understands my pain. My eye starts twitching every time I have to do a TV show civ. Mining ST quotes is my 'leisure time' activity.
I used to have to make TV trailers for the BBC - Oh, I know your pain and I was just the VT operator ! The berk who chose the clips in my day was often bored and rushed so just picked the flashy parts - wrecking the show. I admire your stamina !
[12:58] I always assumed the daleks retreated because they were scared of Rose mentioning The Doctor. Now I realise they were just backing slowly away from Noel Clarke.
To be fair to the Daleks, some stories portray them better than others. I love Remembrance of the Daleks myself, though several Daleks do get killed with a Rocket Launcher to the eye stalk and the Supreme Dalek does kill itself at the end (though I heard somewhere that it partially does so because of it's link with the little girl, but I can't find a source). Like Darth Sidious says though, the Daleks are massively inconsistent. I dislike a fair few of the most recent Dalek stories because of all the Deus Ex Machina nonsense, the Pathweb being a load of [insert expletive here] as is the whole "Daleks can't say I love you" which contradicts one of Moffat's own episodes. That being said, the Daleks do deserve a bit more credit. In the Classics, they only tried to invade Earth trice and twice they did indeed succeed (Dalek Invasion of Earth and Day of the Daleks respectively), only to be defeated by the Doctor later, so the Daleks were atleast slightly competent. There also a few other facts you missed out. The Kaleds were always going to become the Dalek blobs because of all the nuclear radiation from their 1000 year war with the Thals. This is why the Davros was allowed to do his experiments, to allow the Kaleds to survive beyond the war. No one tried to stop him until they realised the Daleks were devoid of almost all emotions, except hate and and the will to survive, Davros having removed everything else. Daleks are created via production lines, these production lines probably being built by slaves or specialised Daleks, who probably build everything else too. Then again, it could be my love of the Daleks blinding me from their incompetence. Though saying that, Doctor Who probably has a dozen more far, far more incompetence villains.
And that's all skipping the fact that for the most part the only parts of Dalek society we ever see are the remnant clone soldiers of a basically dead society. They aren't really a society of their own in most versions we see of them. They are just remnants following ancient orders. most of what made them capable of taking on the time lords is never really seen or explored. We're just given a basic history to them.
i mean even within their own universe the daleks have an almost identical but incredibly superior race :the cybermen. i mean they are basically just the human version of dakeks but heres the best part OUR VERSION ISNT A SENTIENT GODAMN TRASHCAN
One important overlooked factor - When the Daleks were originally programed for their mission of Total Conquest and Anihiliation , there was no conception of Space flight and Time Travel . They were designed from the start as a weapon , a kind of living smart tank - not as a Space conquering civilization . The Dalek program and strategy worked as long as the Daleks had the help of the Lakeds , their enemy was the Thals and they remained on Skaro
You’re right, but the clip you used of them showing their plan was actually them exploiting this idea to trick the doctor into allowing them to create superior daleks
Someone had the kinda smart theory that the Daleks couldn't just kill the Doctor because otherwise they would not exist, seeing as the Doctor has become entangled in their past. So history made them unable to kill the Doctor.
The Doctor has in-universe abilities that are literally plot shields. He claimed that the physical form of the caillou was a mere fragment of it's vast "multi-dimensional" form, and that - like the proverbial iceberg - most of it went unseen by the human eye, existing in a mysterious realm he liked to call "meta-space". The Professor would point out (at great length, as any of his students would testify) that wherever a caillou was found, remarkable coincidences would occur. "When a caillou's life is threatened, or it finds itself in a situation where escape seems impossible, curious episodes transpire as if by chance." he'd written in his treatise On the Habits and Occupations of Astral Personages. "Weather conditions inexplicably change, distracting the enemy long enough for the caillou to slip away. Mysterious thrid parties just happen to pass by, inadvertently saving the caillou from its fate. Even when put in a place of confinement, doors which are thought to be secure are found to have been left unlocked, and competent guards look the other way at precisely the wrong moment." Professor Hulot would insist that these things weren't accidents at all; the caillou's invisible influence was at work in "meta-space", he'd claim, pushing people and objects into convenient places though it's three-dimensional form might seem to be "sitting on it's backside doing nothing at all". The above was written by Steven Moffat. Time Lords essentially bend probability around them, and the Doctor has that ability taken up to eleven. They literally cannot help but listen to him talk. See what happens when the Doctor passively affects a human with this plot shield ability The words rushed out of him in tone that was warm, casual and authoritative all at the same time. Before anyone could get a word in, he started to speak to the nurse who was with him. 'Nurse Tyler-' he turned to Weronika and grinned, and it felt like the sun emerging from behind black clouds- 'and you, pleas put him on a trolley.' Weronika found herself obeying as if it was the most natural thing in the world. As she and the other nurse lifted the boy onto a trolley, she heard on of the doctors give a sigh of relief that was almost pained. 'Acromegaly,' he said. 'Of course.' 'Yeah,' said the stranger, 'its a tragic debilitating condition and I, Dr Table, am the greatest expert in treating it. So you can just call off all these silly soldiers and let me help this man. I've got an ambulance parked outside, so...' By this time he was already following Weronika, Nurse Tyler and the trolley out into the corridor and towards the lift. 'See?' he said brightly, addressing Nurse Tyler. 'Told ya. So relieved when someone comes in with an answer and sets their minds at rest. Doddle.' He shot a glance over at Weronika and read her name badge. 'Hello, Weronika. How's Krakow? Haven't been to Wawel since I slew that dragon, about thirteen hundred years ago.' Weronika found herself smiling back.

To be honest, Daleks did once acknowledge the fact that they cannot defeat Doctor alone and teamed up with basically every Doctor Who villain species EVER to lock the Doctor inside the Pandorica box and, in their own words: "Save the universe from him"........although unfortunately, they didn't realize that removing the Doctor would cause TARDIS to explode, so.....yeah, they ironically blew up the universe.
The whole case-speak actually poses a serious moral issue. If emotions trigger the gun and they can't say what's on your mind, how can you tell if a Dalek actually meant to kill you? What if all this time they're trying to communicate with the Doctor but can only say evil phrases and shoot at him anytime they get frustrated/scared? So how great a monster is anyone who blindly kills them?
Tbh one of the most frustrating parts about the daleks in my opinion is that the eye stalk which has good elevation and depression doesn't have some sort of gun or cannon attached to it. putting a gun on the eyestalk could make sense, as it would provide the dalek with more defence, and the eyestalk could double as a sort of sight for this eye stalk gun.
As an American, the first time I heard a Dalek speak, I fell out of my chair laughing. But really, even after that initial reaction- the Daleks are so much fun and can be intimidating if portrayed by someone who knows how to make them scary... but last season a spaceship's oil spill took one of these tin cans out no problem... I'd like to see a writer reinvent them and make them in to a mortal enemy the character like the Doctor deserves. You can always bring the old Daleks back, like we saw with the cybermen last season finale.
As a normal person the first time I heard a yank speak I had the same reaction. Still puzzles me how anyone could take Jimmy Cagney seriously with all that "...you dirty ratting..." going on, coming out of that inside - out pin cushion excuse for the face of a so called gangster? ? Fucking pathetic
With the point of the design, Spacebattles says this: Essentially, yes the design is stupid and they know that. But Daleks essentially run on spite. Yes, hate in general, but spite very much in particular. That design is roughly what they looked like when Davros first built them, and when the very laws of practicality said that they need to change, needed to become less Dalek, in order to survive, they responded with a raised middle plunger and a "CHALL-ENGE AC-CEP-TED". The vision impaired thing was because they were blasting away with anti-Dalek weaponry for a very long time, and they successfully take down one. just one.
over-analyzing to the max but enjoyable. although you did make one mistake, the daleks did conquer earth, and in a practical way too. in their second appearance in 1968 or 9, dalek invasion of Earth, they did conquer the world with a single ship, first they just bombarded the planet with meteorites laced with plague, then waited for humans to start fighting with themselves, once a majority of the population was destroyed they reached an arrangement with the surviving leaders then betray them and enslave the rest. they did this because they wanted to turn our planet into a warship. and are tectonic plates apparently made it possible for them to open up the planet remove the core and replace it with a propulsion system. now if they would have kept that same level of thought throughout a lot of the other episodes you would have a truly terrifying species 2 watch, but the writers are so inconsistent nowadays is not even funny.
the Daleks are just symbols - -for the British always think about WW2, that's all they ever think about - - so the villains in their Sci-Fi are always Nazi's - - one way or another, to one degree or another - - Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarrins, The Rutans, Village of the Damned(with its platinum blonde uberkinder). Dr Who is just insipid PC junk for little kids, much like Lost in Space, and Star Dreck(animated series from 73). In the end, there are no aliens or robots in science fiction entertainment, just caricatures or reflections of humanity , good or bad, to make some social allegory. THERE IS NO SCIENCE IN SCIENCE FICTION
While I do agree with your comment, what would you propose for a science fiction story? Yes, Foundation is a parody of the Roman Empire to a certain extent, 2001 mirrors some of our ideas on evolution, Dune is an allegory of the 1970s Oil Crisis, and so forth. But how can writers write about things that actually they don't know about? What would actual science fiction be like?
I don't think I'd say they're badly constructed. They're just not designed for close range combat, they're designed to be an army of small tanks that just roll up while blasting at other large armies at a distance. And as far as that goes, they're pretty damn effective, being able to take out millions of Cybermen without any problem with just four Daleks. The problem isn't really their design itself, modern Daleks are damn hard to kill and can just one-shot whatever they want. The big problem, though, is that the universal nazis can't just destroy all humans, so there has to be something to stop them each time. It's sort-of like no matter how big or crazy Doctor Eggman's stuff is, it still needs to be vulnerable to being hit with a small rodent, you know? Except with the Daleks, each time it's some random BS that would be impossible for pretty much anything to actually survive because at their power level it has to be that nuts.
dracocrusher but why would such an "advanced" race not create different "exosuits" for situations like close quarters combat? Also even for long range combat, things like their bad field of view or the placement and range of movement of their main weapon are still serious tactical weaknesses
Well there's a few problems with different exo-suits. First, Daleks are kind-of partially molded into their shells. Like they actually have computer-like machinery hooked into them. They're not just piloting a machine, the machine's specifically just an extension of their body with specific mechanics to control their emotions and stuff. So I'd be surprised if they could just straight-up unhook all that stuff on their own and just be carried into another suit. Which might sound like an even bigger oversight because 'what happens if their shell is damaged', but a Dalek's mechanical shell can actually somehow repair itself if it absorbs genetic material through touch.... Which it can just kind-of do somehow.... That being said, it would be completely possible for a Dalek inside their normal body to hop into a bigger machine of some kind to pilot, but... honestly, I don't feel like there's really that much use for that outside of space travel. Despite how much they appear, the Daleks seriously are a group of tough bastards in the modern series who can shrug off a surprising number of things because of their energy field. And because they can just sort-of swivel their body and head around however they want to as well as fly, range of movement isn't that huge of an issue unless someone's like right next to them. Even then, though, there's not really any latches or easy entrances to open up the shell, so it's not like you can just kick the thing to death, really. You'd just have to keep running around and hope the thing doesn't eventually get its gun pointed at you. You could probably make an argument for like "It would be better if they could do this or that", but, really, a lot of stuff that's like comforts aren't really issues for them at all. They're durable as crap and they can just casually one-shot other science fiction races because if you go at them with a gun then they're going to just see you coming, rotate their firearm into position, and just go for it. It's less about what a race would logically want to have and more about what they represent. They don't look humanoid at all, they can't feel or really empathize, they aren't even seeing the world as it really is and it's impossible for them to really just show any gestures or personality. They exist purely to just go from planet to planet shooting things while making bigger plans in the background and... yeah, honestly they do that super specific task pretty well, all things considered. Plot armor aside, if something's a problem then they'll just shoot it until it's gone and then move on with their day as they shrug off a million bullets because of their localized force field.
The Daleks main problem is that they get writer who aren't interested in writing for them. Moffat has been known to say that Daleks do not interest him in writing hence why his stories are sub-par with stupid ideas such as the "Exterminate to reload". They die in droves because The Doctor has been written to be "the magic man" in that episode. Honestly this video feels more of an attack on their current shows writing than their Empire.
Even in the Hartnell era, the Daleks were going up stairs without an issue. (they just didn't show them going up, only that they were at the bottom, then next scene, on the top)

Thank you! I have hated them because they have such a laughable weakness. Four people just looking at one could stop them in their tracks. I figured this out in my head during "Blink" with the knowledge of how often and for how long people blink.
Well, you forgot to mention: Daleks don't need to build or repair things by themselves. They have slaves for that. - In another timeline they conquered the earth and guess who was digging into the ground for the core? Yes, humans of course. They enslaved the Spiridons, they conquered other worlds so I think a lot of those races are on those spaceships - but were never shown. ;-)
Ah, you've discovered the secret to Doctor Who baddies: terrifying appearance combined with with little actual power. As Neil Gaiman paraphrased G.K. Chesterton, "Fairy tales are more than true - not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.” And that's the real point of the show.
Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of things about these guys; Doctor Who can be a bit funny with its continuity. I especially remember one thing on TvTropes about how they were initially written as robots perfectly designed and suited for the city they lived in; their being unable to climb stairs doesn’t mean anything when they have lifts and elevators everywhere instead of stairs. It’s only when they were turned into universal conquerors that they had issues.
Which I think was done on purpose as a move to teach the Daleks the lesson from War of the Worlds about what happens when you go about invading other people's planets.
Honestly, the Daleks would be a lot more threatening if they DIDN’T say “Exterminate” all the freakin’ time. Half the time in the show it seems like they have to actually say it to shoot their guns at all. ... Oh wait, Steven Moffat retconned it so that actually IS how it works. Because he didn’t add enough stupidity to the series during his run...
Wray Day They didn’t have to before; there’ve been countless episodes both from the classic and new eras where they shoot countless times without squawking their catchphrase once
Or Missy could just be lying to Clara to make her say 'exterminate' to complete the effect that she's another dalek and trick the doctor into killing Clara.
Honestly, Daleks have become less and less scary over the new series. Started in series two, series three was no better, series four rescued the Daleks some, Julian Bleach as Davros was awesome and totally frightening. Series five ruined the comeback of The Stolen Earth and Journey's End. Nonexistant in series six, series seven had a decent Dalek story, but series eight's Dalek story was so lame they lost all scariness. Seriously, crawl around the insides of a Dalek? Would've made a great video game, terrible as a story. Series nine's two parter Dalek story was decent, minus the lame sewer-regeneration plot device. Davros playing with the Doctor same time Missy was playing with Clara was awesome. Series ten and eleven had no Dalek stories. They need to return to the terrifying aspects of the Daleks in the first series. Whoever replaces Chibnall needs to return to the essence of the Time War, where no one was good. Timelords evolved into monsters during the Time War, and the new show runner needs to show the timelords attempt to return to the basic doctrines of noninterference they used to adhere to. Dalek stories need to be rarer.
The daleks were not supposed to be a legendary bad guy. In their first ever appearance, they were all killed off since they were supposed to be a "one off", and that probably accounts to some degree for their overall ridiculousness.
'Hive mind' is a misnomer. Real insect hives don't immediately fall apart when their queen dies. In fact many hives have multiple queens simultaneously.
Dalek episodes can be split into ones with millions of daleks and ones with one. If there is only one dalek in an episode, the chances of them being much, much more terrifying and effective zoom upwards. It's as if on their own, daleks are a horrifying threat to all life on a planet, but get more than 4 in a room and they go utterly braindead. Although there's an exception to that as well. If there's millions of daleks and Davros is there, they seem to achieve all of their goals easily and then are stopped right in the nick of time by some Dr who timey wimey wack.
Michael Bay was an infiltrator unit created by the Daleks to destroy humanity from the inside. However, due to yet another timey-whimey shenanigan, he forgot his first mission and decided to become a film director, without understanding anything but explosions and basic stereotypes of humans (emphasis on basic). Now, he's bent on destroying humanity by breaking its psyche to the point of explodium-filled oblivion.
Yeah I remember seeing Death to the Daleks as a kid and thinking "how the hell do the daleks see out of that thin metal tube?" cos they actually show it as a thin metal tube. As a kid you could just use a cardboard roll from the cling wrap to be a dalek. Even at 7 tho that kinda made me think, lol. Good work Terry Nation and/or whoever the effects designer was at the time.

Dark Helmet No, you British live in the past, always going over past glories. If you want to see what an actually well designed Dalek looks like, look at the Gravitals from All Tomorrows. They're basically indestructible spheres with extremely powerful telekinesis.
21:35 Survival. It may not be a very fulfilling existence, but evidently the Daleks consider it enough to survive knowing nothing could ever threaten them again if they completed their goal of universal extermination.
The whole 'exterminate to reload' thing was so ludicrous even for new Who and that's saying a lot. Great video and amusing too! I'm a huge Doctor Who fan (especially Classic as I'm sure is evident here), but some of this I wondered about myself many years ago! Part of it is the same problem all running villains have. What do you do with enemies that have to keep losing? They become a bit of a joke like we see here.
21:32 Propably the Daleks would then turn on each other, and their definion of purity would get narrower and narrower until everybody was dead. Which the nazis would propably have done if they had somehow won.
the only reason why the daleks always comeback is simply because they are to angry to go extinct with diginity, I want to see a doctor who episode were a dalek knows it going to die due to it damage suit, no way of repairing, slowly decaying due to radiation overdose and very much have no cards to play, and instead of simply going out in peace it just straight out try to blow up the entire planet or even solar system simply because it know it going to die and just wants to go out in pure blazing oblivion, i think that will make a good episode but i do agree with you, heck in the cannon lore the daleks struggle when fighting an alian empire that was the same level and power, and the daleks loss the battle it only when they lean to trickery they won, the daleks always will survive simply because they just wont die easy, still I love them.

The Daleks may be logical, but they're not rational. Their "logic" is based upon Davros' madness, so their reasoning is always inherently flawed.
Daleks are about as logical as Klansmen on meth and oxy, that's what dooms their conquests to failure but also makes them so hilarious. 😂

Virideon they also have a civil war against Davros and daleks loyal to him.
Yeah, pretty good take, that makes sense because they're space Nazis.
You had the pig slaves in Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks as somewhat silly they look.
But Daleks are one of the great genius races of Doctor Who.

To be fair, isn't "surviving" basically the same as "dying really slowly", no matter the situation?

*WHAT? So the Dalek’s eyepiece is outside of the force field? That IS stupid.*
Also it's more like a periscope because a Dalek is a octopus like creature outside of the machine
I always figured that was the force field projector or something and it could be overloaded with direct impact
I'm loving the compilation of Daleks flailing and falling off shit. The Daleks survive and thrive solely through plot armour. They are so stupidly impractical, and it's ridiculous how they're supposedly such a threat
They are ancient AND were mass produced what were you expecting
Expected maybe a bit of competent writing in one of my country's most renowned tv series
Them being mass produced trash is the reason we don't expect them to be a threat, but the show itself treats them as if they are, and creates contrived reasons for them to be such in spite of this
That's where the problem lies.
@@alexbenavidez4500 there's alot of them they were VERY mass produced which is why they were a threat
One during the time war, then in Bad wolf, then after taking over Earth
That was the Daleks mass produced ancient army. Any left were stragglers with no way of actually rebuilding their numbers without the help of others.
As a show of sheer force, the Daleks need the writing to bend in order to justify how they even keep reaching that power
The whole plot of the human Daleks being that they can't reach considerable numbers and powers without fundamentally changing as a race.
@@alexbenavidez4500 they were mass produced DURING the time war never any other time
On the depth perception thing, notice in the shot at 3:48 that the Dalek is seeing things at multiple depths and resolutions through the one eyestalk. The show is displaying it as an overlay, but presumably the Dalek brain sees all the depths simultaneously and composits them. It's a different form of depth-perception than we use but it should theoretically work just as well.
It "should" "theoretically" work but would it actually practically work though? I don't think so. Most animals don't have one eye for a reason.

Who is more incompetent, the Daleks, the Empire or the Borg?
And that's all skipping the fact that for the most part the only parts of Dalek society we ever see are the remnant clone soldiers of a basically dead society. They aren't really a society of their own in most versions we see of them. They are just remnants following ancient orders. most of what made them capable of taking on the time lords is never really seen or explored. We're just given a basic history to them.

One important overlooked factor - When the Daleks were originally programed for their mission of Total Conquest and Anihiliation , there was no conception of Space flight and Time Travel . They were designed from the start as a weapon , a kind of living smart tank - not as a Space conquering civilization . The Dalek program and strategy worked as long as the Daleks had the help of the Lakeds , their enemy was the Thals and they remained on Skaro

yeah they might even stop talking to the doctor like he is an old friend and just kill him instead.
Even when put in a place of confinement, doors which are thought to be secure are found to have been left unlocked, and competent guards look the other way at precisely the wrong moment."
Professor Hulot would insist that these things weren't accidents at all; the caillou's invisible influence was at work in "meta-space", he'd claim, pushing people and objects into convenient places though it's three-dimensional form might seem to be "sitting on it's backside doing nothing at all".
The above was written by Steven Moffat. Time Lords essentially bend probability around them, and the Doctor has that ability taken up to eleven. They literally cannot help but listen to him talk. See what happens when the Doctor passively affects a human with this plot shield ability
The words rushed out of him in tone that was warm, casual and authoritative all at the same time. Before anyone could get a word in, he started to speak to the nurse who was with him. By this time he was already following Weronika, Nurse Tyler and the trolley out into the corridor and towards the lift.
'See?' he said brightly, addressing Nurse Tyler. 'Told ya. So relieved when someone comes in with an answer and sets their minds at rest. Doddle.' The most intimidating the daleks ever were was in season 1 of the reboot, one lone dalek and the doctor was that terrified
With the point of the design, Spacebattles says this:
Essentially, yes the design is stupid and they know that.
The vision impaired thing was because they were blasting away with anti-Dalek weaponry for a very long time, and they successfully take down one. just one.

as a massive whovian, I'm kind of interested to see how you deal with a TV species that the writers have been incredibly inconsistent with.
over-analyzing to the max but enjoyable. although you did make one mistake, the daleks did conquer earth, and in a practical way too. in their second appearance in 1968 or 9, dalek invasion of Earth, they did conquer the world with a single ship, first they just bombarded the planet with meteorites laced with plague, then waited for humans to start fighting with themselves, once a majority of the population was destroyed they reached an arrangement with the surviving leaders then betray them and enslave the rest. they did this because they wanted to turn our planet into a warship. and are tectonic plates apparently made it possible for them to open up the planet remove the core and replace it with a propulsion system. now if they would have kept that same level of thought throughout a lot of the other episodes you would have a truly terrifying species 2 watch, but the writers are so inconsistent nowadays is not even funny.
the Daleks are just symbols - -for the British always think about WW2, that's all they ever think about - - so the villains in their Sci-Fi are always Nazi's - - one way or another, to one degree or another - - Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarrins, The Rutans, Village of the Damned(with its platinum blonde uberkinder).

But how can writers write about things that actually they don't know about? What would actual science fiction be like?
I assumed those were just badly constructed "quantity over quality" war bots, but this is far more stupid than I expected.
Time war era Daleks were much stronger.
I wanna say this time though:
This is; unlike with other Franchises; on Purpose,
to make Fun of Racists and N-zis.
It is a Show known for relatively Smart Writing;
though nowadays, thanks to Chris Chibnal,
all Writing has Died and the Show is Dead.

Wishful thinking does nothing.
Sorry, but you cannot ‚disagree’ about Reality. You dont have the ‚Admin Rights’, so to speak, so you just cant.
Objective fact is that Chris Chibnal is a ridiculously bad Writer and the Franchise is in Shambles. If you ever want to inform yourself about Doctor Who, how about the FREE and HOUR-LONG Essays that were created? Instead of just wishful thinking, maybe something more substancial, like 'Jay Exci' or all the other 'real' Fans have something to say? Some made even fact-filled Essays.
@@slevinchannel7589 Well, let's see. Unless you can demonstrate that there will not be any more Dr. Who ever made, the show is not dead. I admit, I'm a bit behind, I've only just finished Chibnall's first season, so it may take a downturn after that, but thus far, I'm favorably impressed. The throughline was weak, I'll grant you, but other than that, it's been pretty good.
What Chibnall basically has to do is last long enough for people to get used to him, just like Moffatt and Davies did.
Oh, and I don't give a damn about 'real' fans. As far as I'm concerned, if you like Dr. Who, you're a fan.

which makes me cringe.
They constructed an army to conquer the universe that was completely destroyed if you threw one switch. The switch was at the heart of their base. But still they built one lever that destroyed their entire army.

They seem to be designed for ease of TV production
AHHHHHH the old stairs myth,
Daleks are shown hovering as far back as The Chase.
Honestly, Doctor Who has enough stupid sci-fi species to last this series a lifetime
it's funny cause it's the most powerful sci fi universe... and that's not just my opinion
the have a guy that can do anything. Kill gods, entire fleets in one episode without a weapon
Josh Simpson most powerful? Boy you need to go read 40k or something.
The Dr Who is a parody of sci fi tropes.
Comparing it to anything is as useless as compering cartoons to modern military.
@@jarreldoomis3502 the Doctor vs the Imperium? my money is on the Doctor. Give the Doctor 5 minutes and he'll have the Primarchs reevaluating their lives and Khorne choosing to spend the rest of existence gardening.
I don't mind the slow update rate, since you're doing quality work. It's worth the wait.
Rahhelthethird
I can't imagine him going any faster.
The daleks doesn’t want to evolve to keep themselves “pure” cause they were programmed like that by davros.
You should make one on the weeping angels. It’s ridiculous that a species that turns to stone when looked at hunts in big populated cities.
I know right? My joke is that if they were actually in America, it wouldn't be long before they got blown up or smashed to pieces. Can't kill stone but when you blink and it's in pieces... it isn't going to be alive.
They don’t really have a civilization, their just wanderers.
@@Meggsie Imagine if they got what they deserved: the same fate dealt to the innocent Gargoyles, being shattered as they sleep.
Casual CraftMan yep
They enslaved the Spiridons, they conquered other worlds so I think a lot of those races are on those spaceships - but were never shown. ;-)
Pretty sure what Missy said about reloading was a joke, but you know.
She was trying to trick Clara into saying exterminate a lot as part of her plan to make the Doctor think she was another Dalek and kill her.
Nice pfp
*extermination intensifies*
Ah, you've discovered the secret to Doctor Who baddies: terrifying appearance combined with with little actual power. As Neil Gaiman paraphrased G.K. Chesterton, "Fairy tales are more than true - not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us dragons can be beaten.” And that's the real point of the show.
I don't see how a fuggin trash can with a plunger attached to it is supposed to scare me lol
Vashta Nerada?
Neil Gaiman is a monster himself.
Fred Jones well, they have to say it, but, they don’t need to say it so loudly.
@@OktoberSunset I just assumed she was lying because she thought it would be funny.
Daleks are based on davros's madness, they're inherently flawed from the begining
That’s an excellent observation. 👍🏼
They should stop having millions of daleks. Whenever they have entire armies, they will get easily defeated and look weak and incompetent.
Dalek Sec, the only Dalek deserving of Respect.
They keep being killed off by a single unarmed time lord
Unarmed? He has a sonic screwdriver!
... and (gasp) stairs!
Perry Dowd then they should coat them with wood to stop the screwdrivers effects, I mean cyber men can do it so why not these guys
Because the Darleks are too stupid to exist.
Perry Dowd and his tardis
Michael Bay was an infiltrator unit created by the Daleks to destroy humanity from the inside. However, due to yet another timey-whimey shenanigan, he forgot his first mission and decided to become a film director, without understanding anything but explosions and basic stereotypes of humans (emphasis on basic). Now, he's bent on destroying humanity by breaking its psyche to the point of explodium-filled oblivion.
"you would make a good dalek" sounds like an insult lol
Fun fact, in one of the Doctor Who books, there an alternate universe where the Dalek are nice
Wait what?

Yeah I remember seeing Death to the Daleks as a kid and thinking "how the hell do the daleks see out of that thin metal tube?" cos they actually show it as a thin metal tube. As a kid you could just use a cardboard roll from the cling wrap to be a dalek. Even at 7 tho that kinda made me think, lol. Good work Terry Nation and/or whoever the effects designer was at the time.
Daleks are just symbols - -for the British always think about WW2, that's all they ever think about - - so the villains in their Sci-Fi are always Nazi's - - one way or another, to one degree or another - - Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarrins, The Rutans, Village of the Damned(with its platinum blonde uberkinder).
Um, thanks for the er, reply that I wasn't asking for. Old Who used to be written better, the new stuff is a post modern nightmare. There's nothing wrong with having an imagination and enjoying stuff and you know, not being so critical of everything. So? Someone likes music I think is insipid? So what? Let them enjoy it. Who cares. It's just light entertainment.
@@Jeffrey314159 As I said before, Terry Nation grew up during the blitz. The whole thing terrified him. Ergo, the Daleks. Please stop embarrassing yourself. We moved on from the war many decades ago. Maybe you should as well?

No, you British live in the past, always going over past glories.
More to the point, the science fiction genre is stuck in the past, recycling gimmicks and cliches, that were just that, over 40 years ago. This genre of entertainment is as rank as slasher films. With very few exceptions, there are no new ideas in sci-fi. ALIEN was primarily a horror film. That was its narrative after the first act.
@@Jeffrey314159 I know I don't, so not all British do. Come on mate. 😅

The daleks are living proof that anything can be creepy with the right music.
Daleks: Humans in future need these suits to live!
Daleks in the future: Anger and contempt are the only emotions. I am superior. Exterminate. Exterminate! EXTERMINATE!
If you want to see what an actually well designed Dalek looks like, look at the Gravitals from All Tomorrows. They're basically indestructible spheres with extremely powerful telekinesis.
Dalek: [ YOU ARE INFERIOR ]!!!
Gravital: proceeds to crumple Dalek like a tin can

Thing is. Whenever you call the daleks too stupid to exist, remember the 1940s.
21:35 Survival. It may not be a very fulfilling existence, but evidently the Daleks consider it enough to survive knowing nothing could ever threaten them again if they completed their goal of universal extermination.
They don't just 'wanna survive. They want everybody else dead.
21:32
Propably the Daleks would then turn on each other, and their definion of purity would get narrower and narrower until everybody was dead. Which the nazis would propably have done if they had somehow won.
"Your sewers are revolting." What an obvious statement. Every sewer is revolting. This instigated the great _Sewer Civil War_
11:20: Yeah, By Little Miss Deus Ex Machina - Clara! You can't blame the Daleks for Clara being a broken OP Mary-Sue!
The fact that young me thought these tin cans were actually a threat proves how dumb kids can be

I agree. I love Doctor Who, but I agree. Next week: the Time Lords.
The time lords were a bunch of stupid assholes sitting in golden chairs. That's why they all died out.
I love Doctor Who and stupid hats, but I agree that their Time Lords over there caused their own demise by being boring.
the only reason why the daleks always comeback is simply because they are to angry to go extinct with diginity, I want to see a doctor who episode were a dalek knows it going to die due to it damage suit, no way of repairing, slowly decaying due to radiation overdose and very much have no cards to play, and instead of simply going out in peace it just straight out try to blow up the entire planet or even solar system simply because it know it going to die and just wants to go out in pure blazing oblivion, i think that will make a good episode but i do agree with you, heck in the cannon lore the daleks struggle when fighting an alian empire that was the same level and power, and the daleks loss the battle it only when they lean to trickery they won, the daleks always will survive simply because they just wont die easy, still I love them.
