It is ALWAYS the best idea to support developers like this! The more people who adopt a software that is being well maintained and updated means it gets the updates and improvements it needs much faster than it will if only a few people are willing to work with them!
Been playing with Edge the last few weeks and I love it! The touchscreen is way faster than the buttons to work with. Just a ton of work to set up all the widgets exactly like I have it on opentx ....but that's just nitpicking. Can't wait for the next update ...and hoping for some lua scripts to get touch functionality.
Been running EdgeTX since they released 2.5 on my TX16s and love it. Touchscreen support is great to have. Best feature, touchscreen keyboard for entering the model name, hated doing that with the scroll wheel.
I bought the TX16s Open TX 3 years ago and have not had much time for the hobby with work and baby arrival. Edge TX. I ordered a new TX16s for a buddy of mine and Edge TX is amazing. I will switch mine now to Edge TX. Thanks again for your great videos and updates!!

I felt a massive improvement in simulator after installing edgetx on my x9d-plus ! I can only recommend it.
I definitely think we should always remember opentx for the incredible software it is but, as its development has slowed, others have picked up the slack
I know you cover this in other videos, and I've fully moved to edge, but the otx devs don't owe us anything. Otx has been a driving software and has been ripped off by frsky and the like. It's still important to thank the otx devs who have done good work, and perhaps have moved on, or have no need for any of these new features because they're still flying old, unresponsive airplanes. Thank you to all the open source developers that make this hobby possible
this helped TONS with DRL simulator, ( Radio: Eachine TX16S) I figure winter is just starting perhaps I can learn to fly throughout winter and be ready to build in the spring I had been playing DCL for a while and all the drones seemed to handle so differently in that game in DRL, whenever I was inside I'd barely touch the throttle and I'd hit the ceiling but after updating to Edge TX now it feels more normal and more responsive now I can hit really tight small gaps and fly much better inside buildings
I was hesitant but after seing your video I switched to EdgeTx. I have X9D+ and runs ELRS on R9M module. I was about to solder the 1K resistor because I have constant telemetry lost warning and now with Inebit, it's all good !
EdgeTX is amazing. Huge credit to the OpenTX devs for the starting point. Standing on the shoulders of giants for sure. It's crazy to think back to the four channel FM Futaba radio I got into the hobby with. Channel 52 baby!
Been useing edge tx for a month now and love it. Super nice to use the touch screen. And the UI is nice looking and easy to use. Then there are also the performance benefits so I'm happy with it
Joshua, I switched the day you did the Edge TX install video and have been extremely pleased. Touch Screen makes this Transmitter (TX16S) sooooo Easy! Quick to get things done and just as easy to correct those goof-ups your dreaded to re-approach. I sincerely believe Open TX should give up the ghost to Edge TX and call it a day.
I have it sitting here on an SD card ready to go, but haven't hopped over yet. I love how fast they work, but I also don't want to be updating my radio every week!
I would advise in that case to stick with the release builds... those will be roughly only every three months, as well as being more rigorously tested ;)
Then dont update every week. If it works for you stay at one version that works for you. This staying up to date madnes is nonsense in most life cases.

I recently got a FrSky X9D Plus SE 219 because I didn´t like my Tango 2 at all and I flashed EdgeTX out of the box. The radio is perfect for my taste now :) Full Crossfire and ExpressLRS support - full size hall gimbals - all I want!

Joshua I'm so happy with EdgeTX. It's so easy to work on. To change stuff it's all there by a touch of the screen 😁. I started to support them too. Because I would like to give them something back too. Thanks again for your time and support to make the hobby enjoyable
I switched after your last video, it's mostly been good. Had a bit of fun having to re-bind my models and that Crossfire bug with the fast flashing bind light. All sorted easily enough. :)
I ended up having to switch to EdgeTx on my TX16S so I could use ELRS! Whenever I would enable CRSF the radio would grind to a halt and become basically unusable. So far no issues, just the steep learning curve switching from my baby's first transmitter FlySky i6x to something as fully-featured as the 16s. Looking forward to getting further into the hobby and getting my quads (and planes) working on something from this era :D
Hello JB, I have the following inexpensive drones: a TMYES EC110 Drone, The S116 Drone, The Black Falcon Drone, and the Lanusa Mini Drone. Like I said, they are all inexpensive, beginner drones. I’m hoping that there is a single remote that I can use to operate all of my drones. Can you tell me if the Radiomaster controller would operate those drones? I have been looking for a list, but I am new to all of this, so I haven't had any luck finding a list that Radiomaster will control. I look forward to your response. Thank you!!
A quick note on low input resolution messing with your feeling in simulators: this is not just an OpenTX issue, many transmitters are simply not sufficient (sometimes on the hardware side too), it has a massive impact on your sim experience.
Im gonna do it in the spring when my full time flying season is back, i only have a few good weeks left in new england and everything is great right now. Ill keep watching videos and maybe play with it in the winter
1:02 Not all Radiomaster TX16S have the touchscreen. The standard model comes (came) without either Hall gimbals or touchscreen. Adding EdgeTX does not magically make the screen become a touchscreen, unless you already have a touchscreen.
Good morning, I recently got into the hobby(2 months) and bought the Nirvana 3rd hand. I have been using it just fine and it's still OPENTX. I being a noob have no real idea of what im missing. I fly TH2 and i think im doing fine.Can i get some input from the group OTHER than just do it? I am trying to understand and learn,got a grandson trying to fly a basic lil Walmart whoop,and im sure he be hyped to fly with Gramps. The guy that got me involved flaked out on me,and left me out here alone trying to figure this EXTREMELY hard hobby to get into. I watch all kinds of videos on subjects,from various content creators in the hobby.
the Radio Master TX16s is my first modern radio. And I jumped right to edgetx. so far no complaints. For info: my previous radios were a futaba 4 channel (cheapo), a JR x-388s (currently broken) and an v.1 Spektrum dx6 (working).I flew Helis (not well, and like 10 years ago) and only recently picked up quads (thanks DJI, bastards :) ) and love them. i have found that the JR and Spektrum are effectively non-function for the new drones.

Realizing the rate limitation on the X9D+ and now OpenTX is the selling point. TX16S is probably my next radio. Time to say sayonara to new Frsky stuff and OpenTX.
#6 is very good reason. An active and responsive developer team and community feed off each other. This is good for the hobby, as everyone more focused on what the enjoy.
Seems like the only advantage to the qx7 access is reading the sticks at 500hz. Access model doesnt need hardware or software mod and all the other goodies wont really matter on the b&w non touch screen. If im missing something fill me in. Lol
I bought my TX16S a couple months back and flashed Edge TX first thing. It's worked flawlessly on both my sim and my quads. Not sure I would have bought the TX if I wasn't aware of Edge TX and touchscreen capabilities.

And i hope you would make a "review" of the 2.7 release once the final version its ready for release. Maybe even show how to update without loosing models and settings. Thanks a bunch.
Just noticed on Edge TX on my Jumper T18. I have special function that plays the value of channel 5 based on the designated 3 position switch . Channel 5 is my Gyro gain channel I fly helicopters. On Open TX it reports the value of Channel 5 output correctly. On Edge TX the special function plays the value of Channel 5 from its previous value. So it seems it is polling Channel 5 output before it changed . It not doing it on consistent bases.
And just like that I’m now running edge tx. Thanks for pointing out these reasons. It was what you said about the telemetry disconnects that convinced me (I’ve been noticing that a lot on my x9 lite ever since I started using expressLRS and it always scares me to hear). Obviously touch screen support is inconsequential for me but nothing else was holding me back.
If you already have the inverter mod on the QX7 and install Edge onto it, will that affect it? Or would you need to take the inverter mod off to install edge?
Perhaps not "fully supported", but it will be more than "preliminary", now that we've had more feedback from users and more testing done ;) Plus we will be getting feedback from Flysky themselves soon on any bugs or missing features soon, which will be a big help also.
please please please run battery down as low as i gets. i had no warnings and the tx16s crashed and in wont power down. need to disconnect battery and it keeps crashing after. battery tester said 19% remaining thanks joshua bardwell
to be honest, the only thing for me that would be beneficial is the touch screen, but the fact i rarely do anything other than changing models ... meh... would take just as long for me... as far as gimbal polling rate, not that much of a big deal as i only fly cinewhoops and fixed wing now.... havent flown my freestyle quad in months.
I fly mostly fixed wing these days and I would say making the switch is worth it. Even when selecting models the workflow is a lot better. Editing things like rates and expo is also better. So don't discount the benefit of the new ui. It is super easy to try it and revert back if you want to, so I encourage you to at least take it for a spin.
..and I wanted to switch two days ago, just didnt come around to it. Now I'll just watch this video to give you a view, and maybe to solidify my decision even further =P
Hey Joshua I wanted to ask you a question. As of right now does this affect a Tango2 ? In respects to the 500 Hz polling of the gimbals? If I picked up what you put down correctly you said that crossfire is going to support 500 Hz. Could you elaborate in your response if you have time to?
I switched after watching your simulators live stream the other day. I feel a little less latency, but it could be placebo effect. But even though, I enjoy Edge TX and have no problems with it. (TX16S)
Not every TX16S has a touch screen.. The TX16s SE and TX16S standard versions use a 4.3-inch color display (non-touch screen). The TX16S series currently sold in official stores are Industrial grade 4.3 inch IPS 480*272 Screen with touch. I'm talking about the official touch screen TX16S series products, including TX16S MAX, TX16S NEW COLOR SELECTION, TX16S HALL WITH TBS MICROTX, TX16S HALL.
Not fully working on nirvana yet. After struggling with models, I etead the info last night, 2.5 is just a preliminary version for the nirvana, and the models don't work yet. Should have read the manual....
Have had Edge for over a month. FlySky PL18 gimbals. That was the original reason I switched. They're better than the V3 Radiomaster gimbals and the installation is as simple as installing the adapter kit and then installing the gimbals. That's literally it.
@@JoshuaBardwell Good Inav one works but I've a Yaapu one on a Rover under Ardupilot with an Frsky receiver and Mavlink - Not sure whether that would work and no CRSF V3 yet either. Gave my Taranis X9D to grandson so only a TX16s now. Probably have to give it a miss, for now...
Hi Josh I just switched my radio, I been flying the Xlite and I just setup my X9D to EdgeTX and I have a crossfire transmitter the smaller one, but I had to replace the battery. I purchased a new FRSKY 2s 3000mah and I was wondering if I should get the 3s lipo instead ?
Hm, it surely looks great. The only worry I have is whether there will be some issue when I have already done the invert mod on my QX7. I quess it will be no problem, but I just want to be sure. Could somebody give an answer for that please? :)
Thanks for the vid, I have made the switch but for some reason my betafilght lua stopped working. Also, are there any benefits to increasing baud rate? Running 400k on qx7 with tbs tracer and I see that it could go way higher than that :)
Are you saying that it hasn't had an update in over 2 years or it hasn't had a major release come out in more than 2 years? I see a release for 2.3.14 in July 2021? I'm new to OpenTX though.

Without opentx there wouldn't be an edgetx so they contributed a fair amount I'd say.

Edge tx has been amazing for the past week. I used the touchscreen way more than I expected I would.
Me to, the touch screen is really great. I wish the LUA scrips would run. Everytime I execute on the radio crashes with a coloured snowy screen.

Colour touch screen was one of the reason's that I got the tx16s, actually being able to use the touch screen made the switch to Edgetx a no-brainer.

I made the switch and I very happy touch screen has cut setup time in half
I just got a TX16s with AG01 gimbals and decided to start using it on EdgeTx right away so its now running 2.5🤗

Switched to EdgeTX. Everything looking fine for now. Tested in sim. Using QX7 and get later crsf or tracer or expresslrs.

Widget on screen shown wrong names of the output channels. But in overall, it's great! TX is TX16S, like yours.

Reason 2 was what made me switch. I’m still having some issues with elrs that I didn’t have with R9 but I’ll deal with it for now

Is it worth for Taranis X9D+ (the old silver one, before 2019)? This radio doesn't has Touch screen.

It was what you said about the telemetry disconnects that convinced me (I’ve been noticing that a lot on my x9 lite ever since I started using expressLRS and it always scares me to hear). Obviously touch screen support is inconsequential for me but nothing else was holding me back.
Did this fix your telemetry loss message as having the same on my x9 lite with ELRS

If you already have the inverter mod on the QX7 and install Edge onto it, will that affect it? Or would you need to take the inverter mod off to install edge?

Perhaps not "fully supported", but it will be more than "preliminary", now that we've had more feedback from users and more testing done ;) Plus we will be getting feedback from Flysky themselves soon on any bugs or missing features soon, which will be a big help also.

please please please run battery down as low as i gets. i had no warnings and the tx16s crashed and in wont power down. need to disconnect battery and it keeps crashing after. battery tester said 19% remaining thanks joshua bardwell
to be honest, the only thing for me that would be beneficial is the touch screen, but the fact i rarely do anything other than changing models ... meh... would take just as long for me... as far as gimbal polling rate, not that much of a big deal as i only fly cinewhoops and fixed wing now.... havent flown my freestyle quad in months.
I fly mostly fixed wing these days and I would say making the switch is worth it. Even when selecting models the workflow is a lot better. Editing things like rates and expo is also better. So don't discount the benefit of the new ui. It is super easy to try it and revert back if you want to, so I encourage you to at least take it for a spin.
opinion on upgrading from FreedomTX to EdgeTX that comes stock on the Tango2? Should I? Benefits?
Sorry but the Tango 2 is not yet supported by EdgeTX
..and I wanted to switch two days ago, just didnt come around to it. Now I'll just watch this video to give you a view, and maybe to solidify my decision even further =P
Yub JB. Made the switch a few days ago. So far all is well. Looking forward to more goodness from the EdgeTx developers.

In respects to the 500 Hz polling of the gimbals? If I picked up what you put down correctly you said that crossfire is going to support 500 Hz. Could you elaborate in your response if you have time to?
Edeg TX has been awesome, switched for ghost support, stayed because you don't have to use companion if you don’t want to.
I switched after watching your simulators live stream the other day.
I feel a little less latency, but it could be placebo effect.
But even though, I enjoy Edge TX and have no problems with it.

Not every TX16S has a touch screen..
The TX16s SE and TX16S standard versions use a 4.3-inch color display (non-touch screen).
The TX16S series currently sold in official stores are Industrial grade 4.3 inch IPS 480*272 Screen with touch.
I'm talking about the official touch screen TX16S series products, including TX16S MAX, TX16S NEW COLOR SELECTION, TX16S HALL WITH TBS MICROTX, TX16S HALL.
Not fully working on nirvana yet. After struggling with models, I etead the info last night, 2.5 is just a preliminary version for the nirvana, and the models don't work yet. Should have read the manual....

Have had Edge for over a month. FlySky PL18 gimbals. That was the original reason I switched. They're better than the V3 Radiomaster gimbals and the installation is as simple as installing the adapter kit and then installing the gimbals. That's literally it.
Lua and Lua C stuff work? If not useless for LR stuff.
Of course. In most cases, Lua scripts are 100% compatible. In a few cases, the script needed to be updated. The iNav script works fine for example.
@@JoshuaBardwell Good Inav one works but I've a Yaapu one on a Rover under Ardupilot with an Frsky receiver and Mavlink - Not sure whether that would work and no CRSF V3 yet either. Gave my Taranis X9D to grandson so only a TX16s now. Probably have to give it a miss, for now...
Hi Josh I just switched my radio, I been flying the Xlite and I just setup my X9D to EdgeTX and I have a crossfire transmitter the smaller one, but I had to replace the battery. I purchased a new FRSKY 2s 3000mah and I was wondering if I should get the 3s lipo instead ?

If I could lock the display from accidental touch I'd switch but I'm too clumsy for a touch screen

I wanted to switch. Tried to on Sunday but couldn't get it to switch to the EdgeTx boot loader and am stuck on OpenTx 2.3.11.

Are you saying that it hasn't had an update in over 2 years or it hasn't had a major release come out in more than 2 years? I see a release for 2.3.14 in July 2021? I'm new to OpenTX though.
A major release. 2.3.0 came out in late 2019.
