Great way to add functionality to those trim switches. I combined this with the CLI VTX configuration to switch video channel with the trim switches. Check out JB's video on VTX control on a switch
OK.....*THIS VIDEO* (out of all the help you have provided) is the one that caused me to sign up and become a Patreon. (you are my very first) Good Job!
I haven't used Betaflight for about 3 years now but have transitioned over to iNav. In iNav, there are tuning parameters that can be displayed in the OSD and the values can be changed in flight by using the same trim button technic as JB described in the video to change the values of the individual parameters displayed in the OSD.
Nice thats good to know. I have BF on my Drone's now but im putting together an FPV Wing plane with INAV & ELRS so im going to use some sort of FC board. Are you flying a drone or a plane with the iNav?
Wow, this is awesome as I am wanting to use a momentary switch to control the gimbal on my quad rather than the knob. With using the knob I have to take my fingers off the sticks and so cannot perform certain shots. Now I will be able to do it with the momentary switches, left one for up and right one for down. I just had not sat down to figure out how to achieve it and this video saves me the time of working it out.
The extra trims are very handy for airplane use if you use a gyro. I use the SxR series from FRsky and I assign the T5 trim as my gyro sensitivity. I don't like knobs for this function because when you switch models you will lose the gyro setting. Since T5 is a digital trim it will remember the setting for each model.
Yeah, I also like seeing the process of working it out. This helps me to understand it better and cut out some steps when I do it but need different parameters than those in the video.
VERY Nice, I made some logical switchs to check for ARMED position(s) first & then being a modifier for true OR false...added some Mix(s), and gained SOO much functionality, gr8 stuff! -Tango 2 user
Okay, this is jus AWESOME! Joshua, here's a video idea for you: (On the Radiomaster TX16S) using T5 to change the vTx band, and T6 to change the channel; and then maybe the six buttons for vTx power...oh, oh, then record new sounds that say "Band A", "Band B", "Band E", "Band F", "RaceBand" as you click T5 up and down, and then have it say "Channel 1", "Channel 2", etc., when I click T6 up and down....and "Pit Mode" (maybe?), "25 milliwatt" etc. as you push the six buttons. THIS IS JUST TOO COOL!!!
Very useful info. I've used this logic to toggle the TX master volume to off, med and high. On a trim it makes sense to just use both directions, but the idea of a momentary / reset is clever.
🤔🤔🤔 I’m wondering if momentary switch can simulate stick input…ie full roll for the amount of time, that based on rates, needs to have a full 360 degrees roll, Auto trick mode on😅
When I saw the title I thought some might have been suffering a bug or something, my trims are not useless, I use them on all my 11+ fixed wing craft and on my giant scale rc truck!
@@JoshuaBardwell why or what are some of your other channels and in-between mixes added in for on your TX mixes menu list? I’ve noticed you used Disarm on channel 5 at 100% MAX and your ARM is on some other type channel symbol + circled with -20% MAX on power symbol SF arrow up. That’s not looking normal to me but is your arming and disarming on different mixes? And what’s that at the top of your mixes menu, the 25% S1 SC- ?? What’s that do? I was learning about the symbols some time ago and forgot what they mean. Thank you Joshua
Joshua, if you know of a way to use a USB flight controller (like the T-16000M joystick and throttle) to control different radios like crossfire or whatever, I'd love to see a video about it. Perhaps even making a portable base station that plugs into the DJI analog goggle input and can be put in a pickup or on a trailer for some "immersive" piloting.
I was able to do it with my radio master tx but with the radiomaster zorro, when you set up the gv value back to 0 it just stays there. hard to explain but doesn't work on the zorro. this would have made the useless SD button they have, more functional.
Many moons ago you showed how to tune the drift in hover. So with this logic the trim switch could actually be a trim switch(s) on a quad! See There😜 I did learn something...maybe

I am already using this for rates on an x-lite. 200 divided by one less than the number of positions for the switch is the best value to use. I also added a second global that gets incremented by 1 so I can have it display so I know which rate I switched to. You made a 3 position switch for example which would be 200 / 2 and that is what you set.
Dang, I would love to have my normal freestyle rates plus a super slow super exo mellow rate that I can do on a switch, But I don't understand how you did yours?
@@definingslawek4731 it’s similar to how the OSD is switched but you set to change rates instead of OSD. There’s a command line setting for 6 pos switch so you can use all 6 rate profiles. On my larger transmitter I just use the 6 position switch but the smaller transmitter does not have one. The step amount for 6 pos switch should be 40. Use that instead of 100 and you will have a 6 pos switch. You can loop back when you get to the end of the range or have the other direction on the trim switch subtract 40. You can combine looping with the other switch as well if you want both.
There is always a tradeoff between power and difficulty, you can do anything, but nothing is simple. Give me power, and I can figure it out (with help).

Yeah but I think that's better on a three position switch. If you crash somewhere and video signal is completely gone (but RC signal isn't), you can just throw your switch to 25mW to keep the VTX from burning out without having to check your radio what value it actually is at.
