Credit where credit is due. You were the first one I can remember talking about this band. And they are one of my newer favorite black metal bands. Have a debt of gratitude towards you 🙏🏽 🤘🏾
oh i agree, usually if Sarah recommends something, there's a really good chance that its gonna be awesome and that i'll like it, can't say the same for the rest of the banger crew
I'll be listening to this and the new Demiser all day today. I already like this one more than the last. I understand everything that you said, but I like it. I still like the second album better, but I dig this one. Thanks for the video, Sarah!
Love Sarah… but I disagree… the overall sound is completely different. More punk, bass heavy, two things that are lacking in BM. The first track, Fevers and Suffering, starts with a riff that is completely different if non existence on their last album. In fact that whole track is original! Even switching to the B side of the album sounds completely different from previous Spectral Wounds Albums. Love Sarah, but sorry don’t agree with this one!
yeah its different, when the first song hit, it's definitely have black n roll vibe, but the thing is for long time fans, expectation can affect listening experience, that's why i struggle to listen everything new from Blood Incantation and Tomb Mold, im forever stuck on Starspawn and Manor. also The album is way too long, The Horn Marauding and 'Less and Less Human...' is way too overkill
Great review! It's basically how I felt, too. I'm torn here, just how I can see you were torn. On one hand, it's everything that made me fall in love with Spectral Wound. On the other hand, it would have been nice to see some adventurousness in the songwriting. It's still 100% a no-skip record for me so far. They've definitely nailed their sound, and - in a vacuum - the record doesn't miss at all in my book. That said, I hope their next album is a little more adventurous, but not too much lol
Good day for black metal yesterday; not only did we get a new Spectral Wound album, Norwegian Koldbrann finally released their new LP "Ingen Skånsel" after 11 years. Great album as well for those who can't get enough of icy cold black metal!
While it's not their peak, I do still enjoy it quite a bit and it will likely end up in my top 10. Still need to spend a lot more time with it though. Also given the (completely justified) criticisms of SW, the Darkthrone shoutout was interesting, as they are the definition of not reinventing the wheel IMO. Their only modern release that strikes my fancy at all is Eternal Hails. I thought the new one was super boring.
i love montreal and toronto venues and ive seen spectral wound a handful of times. fricken sick. cant wait to hear this live. chris from profound lore is releasing amazing shit
She never said it was crazy she said it was weird, which it definitely is. I just listened to the first two songs and they're pretty technical with strange vocals and a claustrophobic production, I think Sarah summed it up pretty well
I wouldn't call it pedestrian, but I agree that I don't understand her take on it. I'm glad she gave it a shout out because it's great and I've listened to it like 5 times in the last day and a half. Maybe I've just listened to Vertumnus Caesar by Malokarpatan too much, but I just don't find Negative Plan to be that crazy. I think of it more as if Mercyful Fate were black metal.
Haven't really been down with Spectral Wound's "evil dinner table" series, but I think I enjoyed this album a bit more than Diabolic Thirst on first listen, but that being said it's still Infernal Decadence at the top for me. You really got my hopes up in the shoutouts that there was a new Stormkeep album on the way
I only listen to black metal with good headphones that way I can hear more of the treble static in the background 🤘🤘( im a black metal fan btw but I don't take it over seriously)
Everybody is raving about Zeal & Ardor, but I am not getting it yet....need more time. The new Nile album and this one is on my potential album of the year list
Always love a Sarah review I like the record, but it doesnt grip me the way Infernal did, and it certainly doesn't have anything as ear-wormy as Frigid & Spellbound on the last record.
Can anyone recommend more bands like SW/mgla/sargeist? Love all three of those and think the comparison is apt. In terms if the punk/BM crossover I do still listen to YAITW. Also agree with what was said about having stadium riffs, seen them play twice and walked away both times thinking “these guys need to play in a bigger room”. Total command of an audience, nonstop energy, just great stuff!
I’ve found black metal is all too often pretty interchangeable. It’s a great sound, and there’s times - particularly when it’s raining because in the hot temperate rainforest where I live, that’s the closest I’m likely to see to the “frozen north” in terms of vibes - where nothing else will suffice, but I rarely find myself hearing black metal and coming away with the conclusion that a band is special.
100% AGREE! (and i never agree with most reviews from BTV, no offense ) but "SoB&M" suffers the same fâit as Necrophobic "In the Twilight Grey" -- great, but same, same, same, nothing new that's better than before. it doesn't make it suck or bad, it's just not as memorable as their previous. which is same here. Did i say same? SAME!
Sarah looking svelt (not that it matters). this album is badass, very memorable. I think it’s fine to keep making great BM, not having to reinvent yourself.
This album sadly was a 3.5/5 for me. Half the tracks were really good and the other half just sound like whatever riffs they didn’t use on the last record. I also wanted this album to be way better than what I got tbh. I so strongly disagree with your opinion on their previous record though, shit was bangers back to front.
Seeing you struggle to give this band a fair review my heart goes out to you, sometimes as metal fans, being honest about the quality of what we listen to can be tricky people are very sensitive while I absolutely love the second album. These last two don’t really compare. Good albums just not great,
I'm sure Sarah knows this guy but if you're looking for cool black metal of the anti-fascist variety; Jan van Berlekom aka Winterherz and his one man band Uprising released III in july. great melodic but raw black metal
4th album huh? Filosofem? But how can those people be objective when the 3rd or 4th sentence out of their mouths is that the album was released on antifa label (who gives a shit? We talking about music, not record labels). I really enjoyed A Diabolic Thirst, for me it was their best album, even a contender for top 10 albums of 2021. Album like The Furnaces of Palingenesia not only didn't make the best album of the year category but was ridiculed by banger based only on one member "suposed" beliefs. So I know that the reviews are not solely based on music on this site. Your beliefs and voting choices must also align with banger for the album to get a good grade. Weak!

I see Sarah i click
Me too. Her taste is the most similar to mine especially with black metal and traditional metal
Same
Loving this new Spectral Wound album, it's so damn catchy, while still fierce BM.
Of course it's Sarah reviewing this album. Once again proving Sarah has the best taste of the Banger crew 😂( no shade tho )
@@antonioprovenzano5130 just an opinion my dude. Metalheads get so defensive ( unless it was a joke lol )
@@JoshieMadhattna dude i feel its more than that thus my reply but if Im mistaken i withraw my comment
Best album of the year so far🤘

Same! New Demiser reminds me of Wraith a lot, dig it. New Spectral Wound rips.
Love Sarah… but I disagree… the overall sound is completely different. More punk, bass heavy, two things that are lacking in BM. Yes, agreed !
I fully agree with you here!

I love Sarah's honest reviews.
Love how the cat made itself known! Great review and I'll now check out those other albums that are in my "watch later" list! 🤘

Super stoked for this album, Nile, and Zeal and Ardor. Today is a good day!
Even Demiser and Fleshgod Apocalypse
I was listening to this album yesterday, it sounded so sick, I'm going to listen to it again and again
Love this album! Their best IMO.
i love montreal and toronto venues and ive seen spectral wound a handful of times. fricken sick. cant wait to hear this live. chris from profound lore is releasing amazing shit
Strange I find this to be their best album by a long shot
Hi Sarah. The Negative Plane album you mentioned favourably? My goodness, what a pedestrian affair! Not sure where all the craziness you mentioned is.
She never said it was crazy she said it was weird, which it definitely is. I just listened to the first two songs and they're pretty technical with strange vocals and a claustrophobic production, I think Sarah summed it up pretty well

Infernal decadence is maybe my favourite black metal album. It's a lot to live up to and sadly I haven't been blown away by their following albums.
Migwa? That hurts me, and I'm not even Polish.
For real, I thought she was talking about Mogwai
I only listen to black metal with good headphones that way I can hear more of the treble static in the background 🤘🤘( im a black metal fan btw but I don't take it over seriously)
Everybody is raving about Zeal & Ardor, but I am not getting it yet....need more time. The new Nile album and this one is on my potential album of the year list
As a Canadian fellow, very canadianese to deliver the verdict but agree 100 % keep the good work.
Always love a Sarah review

Great review, thanks Sarah!
Yeah!!!! I saw Spectral Wounds new album cover and I got excited!!! Can you do Unfathomed - Red Cast Sky EP next? It's this band from Canada
Nothing like some good ol' Cascadian black metal in the morning.
they're from Montreal
Seen Spiritual Possession with Spectral Wound Spectral Wound blew their socks off
I would give it 2-2.5/5 personally. All the shout outs are WAY better!
100% AGREE! I was listening to this album today. Great album! It is not too different or far out from the norm though

I love that album. It's pretty awesome imo
Finally a new Sarah review!! \m/ :D
It’s an incredible album. 10/10. Great review! 🤘
Let's make Sarah great again.
I have been listening to this album All day and I think it’s sick
Seeing you struggle to give this band a fair review my heart goes out to you, sometimes as metal fans, being honest about the quality of what we listen to can be tricky people are very sensitive while I absolutely love the second album. These last two don’t really compare. Good albums just not great,
Bro this album rules.
It's AbBHAT
Not Abbath.
I know. I KNOW.
I'm sorry 😂
These guys rip, killer album on first listen. Great review as always Sarah
I think this album rules... totally carrying the Sargeist torch.
While the Abbath set at Helsinki was great he didn’t play Where Dark and Light Don’t Differ like you said
Outstanding shootouts, Sarah!! 🤘
What is the exception 10:10?
Spectral Wound has that razzmatazz
Agree
Please also review Demiser.
there's alot great black metal album these days, but memorability is hard to find
Too harsh IMO. This is easily 4.0 and I would give it 4.5. Great album. 👍
was that an album review or an encounter group?
I thought Spectral Wound were great at MDF this year (2023)
Reminds me of Windr. Am I the only one?
Fug this albums rips 💀 🔥
I'm sure Sarah knows this guy but if you're looking for cool black metal of the anti-fascist variety; Jan van Berlekom aka Winterherz and his one man band Uprising released III in july. great melodic but raw black metal

It gets 5 out 5 skulls your crazy
🤘🤘

I'd love to see a Blayne/Sarah dual review or discussion.
quality band
don't find anything compelling and unique in Spectral Wound
Ban calling bands "outfits."
This review was waaaay too long due to the rambling
I prefer when the ladies do reviews.....the dudes are cringe for one reason or another.
