Goth Kids - Sept. 1993 TV news magazine report

- Goth Kids are discussed and interviewed in this September 1993 TV news magazine report that includes club promoter Shawni Sullivan. The BetaGems channel also has "5-29-92 vampire teen goth girl on daytime TV talk show."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, old TV news segments, made-for-TV movies and documentaries, religious programming, variety shows, talk show interviews, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on UA-cam or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.
that girl who said she'd rather be dead than conform was so real
Lol
Real
I love being Goth. It’s an way of self expression and gives me confidence with myself. With the music it’s on the inside, a connection with the lifestyle.
Youre probably a poser
@@EricTheActor805shut up eric
Or maybe, hear me out. Go to therapy so you won't need to be in subculture to feel confident?
@@niqa246 shut up dude
It looks awesome
goth never die
Nope, we went into hiding.
Fuck this world and it's society . . . . . .
Only posers dies.
Those two Goths are now in their late 40’s-early 50’s. Gen X rocks.
original goths are Boomers
I love being goth. I love how welcoming the community is. I love the music. I love the style and how they respect you if you don't use it. I love architecture. I love politics. I love gothic ideas, films, books and icons. I love the respect they have for the baby bats. 🧛🏻♀♡
my left ear loved this video
I got to meet Shawni when I went to see Twin Tribes a few months ago. She looks so different now. She’s so awesome 😊
I love seeing my friends young again!
even though people love to ridicule them, I’m just glad that these videos are made so that we can go back and see some people even lost loved ones 🥺
Two years before I was born! And I’m goth now! I love seeing it wish I could’ve experienced the 90s as a teen instead as a baby
Well that sucks but me being a child of the 80's the most I experienced in my teens was Nickelodeon, Power Rangers and the SciFi channel. I wasn't aware of the Gothic subculture until at least '99 or 2000 maybe if memory serves.
the first half of the 90s was awesome.....the late half was insanely lame.
Same, I was born in 98 and I wish I was able to experience the simplicity of the time.
90s goths were already posers.
@@Wormdysease I have no idea on where you are from, if it's a popular city or a small one, but goths were usually a very small community in big places (where the majority was in England). So, it's not uncommon if you did not know them until the late 90s/late 2000s, which was the worst decade for us, since you know, Emos.
goths are always good looking
I've been in a few Goth/vampire coverage. They always made us sound.... dumb. 2 hour interview and they give the dumbest points.
seriously! it wasn't some interview but some lady kept asking things like ''do you think you're a vampire????? do you kill people???? do you know how to speak??'' 💀
So great to see. Thanks for posting this!
Ok but like, the new lady has the craziest hair of them all lol!
I was born in 1993, that was the time I grew inside of my mother in September of 1993. I didn’t know goth subcultures as a baby back than, that was way before, lol…
The world is even weirder now we need Goth people to unite again and end the obsession with clout
Can I time travel and be besties with all of them😭😭😭
Damn natalie was so pretty at work
Yes, House of Usher when it was at Thunder Bay. Those were the nights... even when it moved into the City it was Magik.
You and me both - Thunder Bays main room was pure magic. I still think about that club often.
I think goths are cool
I use to..........HA!
Good for you
Thank you, we appreciate the compliment.
i think it´s weird you´re all styled like all our cultures from several eras lol
@@dorym.tomaselli6739 gawd what you see as goth today is what i wouldn´t see as goth
Listened to Bauhaus once 🖤🎸☠️💀🧛🏻♀️⚰️🎼
In 96 ahh 😱 my Baby Bat 🦇 years mid 90s until late 90s got into Goth subculture never forget about back then damn Columbine High School shooting blame us for being part Goth Subculture I didn’t go to Goth events and clubs into 2010s Is music Based Subculture before clubs I Supported still Goth music still do I’m looking for support my scene! I miss my Goth friends miss you can’t go see you there at Goth events and clubs.
Where are you from?
@@MitcheryUpdate in Riverside, California I been going to Goth Clubs and Events Post Covid Pandemic I met my old friend from High School and his partner is into Goth Scene.
The guy who said being a goth is a show and a theater and people get their fifteen minutes of fame clearly states poser. Its a way of life dummy
Maybe you should bring it back. Try opening up your own goth club.
@@skyisthelimit1898 It's never died in the big cities. LA has a great scene but as you can imagine covid has fucked things up for the last year or so.
@@skyisthelimit1898 Not dead tho, some of us still enjoy the macabre
wonder where they are now
why didn't any of them talk about music and the lifestyle, it seems like they think being goth is all bout appearance but its not😭😭😭😭 i wanna see them talk about siouxsie and the cure and shit like that
0:33 rob zombie reference?!?!?
2:37 wonder what beauty supply store is that
30 years ago.. These people are in their mid-late 40s or so now, that's always an uncomfortable realization.
0:54 i wonder what she's doing now she reminds me of a friend I know

Hey this is really sad if u listen to what they have saying...
it is sad, but is it their perspective that is sad? or something more?
@@darrenconrad5405 dunno.i can't remember. I'll have to watch the video again

The good old days before the manosnites took over
😂you mean Mansonites
Goth girl here 😊
where the fuck can i find stuff like this in the modern day, i want to go to a place wearing monochrome clothes and hang out, sounds so awesome.
The girl at 2:24 is pretty cool eldergoth also that guy who said Goths are mostly theatre kids I don't necessarily agree with that because you're most likely saying that we doing this for attention or playing a character
Don’t be a ducking conformist!!
Heebie Geebies. Night fever night fever
goth girls are hot.
Seems shallow and focused on "the look" more than anything else...
@TUbIuyola so that makes it ok? what i said didn't apply to me and others i knew even in the 90's as i'd imagine there are still younger people now who aren't all about the look. there's people like this in all scenes club or otherwise...
