I said I'd make this video four years ago and here it is. I ran into the problem of trying to soundproof my electric drums so the people below me wouldn't hear me play. I found that some people were making soundproof drum risers using tennis balls. I looked into it then I made my own version of it. I added layers of interlocking foam mats and elevated the stage by placing square pieces of acoustic soundproof foam underneath. it worked well with never hearing any complaints from my neighbors. The trickiest part was elevating my throne to the same height as the stage because only the drums are placed on the stage. I used many layers of foam mats to raise my throne. One thing to get use to is that the stage will jiggle when you're playing the drums. Not a huge deal. Just something I noticed. I hoped you all enjoyed the video.

Dude that intro was awesome! And of course thanks for the details steps for the riser.
This intro informercial is beyond goals. I'm loving your drum series, I feel like it's slowly edging me to actually try drums some day!
Thanks man. You should! You'd make an awesome drummer.
I actually had the same situation in my apartment. My dad and I made a stage using cardboard, foam tiles, and 2 carpets, surprisingly, it worked and can play my electric drums easily now.
That's great! I'm glad that worked out.
How do you not have more views?
The humour and production quality are spot on!!
MAy the Algorithm grant you fame and fortune
I thank thee, kind sir!
Poor Doggy wants those tennis balls - great build mate going to do this this weekend now :)
Hat off good sir! Great intro, great info and wonderful humor! I hope we see more of your videos soon.. Cheerio!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I love the intro wahah! Great video all around! The sound effects are nice too! :D
Theeenks! That downstairs neighbor sure was pissed
@@donutdrums he's intimidating! especially his scary hair whooshes! B)
That funny puppy
The goldeneye sound effects was a nice touch haha
one of my favorite soundtracks
Very, very cute and informational!!! Loved it! Surely you finally gave the dog his OWN tennis ball(s)?? LOL
Thanks! I sure did. At the end of the video I let him take all the tennis balls he could ever want :D
Awesome video! Thanks!
Thank you!
This is too good.
:D
My favourite part is the gc controllers with custom triggers. You know this guy mains Falco.
at first I thought that you were a heartless creature, you felt sorry for the ball for the dog, but the last frames of the video returned my faith in people. From Russia with love. PS: the board is better to take MDF 20-25mm
Awesome!!!
Thanks!
The throne that is better to step on the floor or on the platform;
It's best to keep the throne separate from the platform. If your throne doesn't extend high enough you'll need to find something to place underneath it. I used a stack of foam tiles in this video.
I built my own tennis ball riser last year and was pleasantly surprised that it completely absorbed the vibration from the bass drum pad! On the other hand it turned out that the walls in my apartment building were made of (I'm guessing) cardboard, physically hitting the pads made a lot of noise and my neighbours still complained FeelsBadMan
Aw man. I'm sure hanging some acoustic blankets or lots of soundproofing foam could help.
@@donutdrums Probably, but I did the power play and moved out. Check mate, neighbours!
very nice
How many tennis balls will I need for a 55 "* 48" (140cm - 120cm) mdf platform?
Good video!
Thanks!
Am i am the only one noticing the Final Fantasy 7 music in the background as up 0:52.
Seems like not as many drummers are nerds!
Good ear! I love that song, well, soundtrack for that matter.
@@donutdrums The whole souundtrack is phenomenal.
Came here for the drums, stayed for the dog
He'll be happy to hear this
What if you use just multiple layers of rubber mat just like what you did on your throne, instead of going full diy on tennis ball riser? Wont 4 layers of rubber mat have same effect as the tennis riser?
I know it's been 9 months, but maybe someone finds this answer useful.
It's not the mat that absorbs the vibrations, the riser serves as an air gap between the kit and the floor. Having mats and tennis balls absorbs vibrations going into the riser, none of the vibrations go through the floor.
4 layers of mat still connect to the ground without an air gap. This means that while it absorbs vibrations, some of it still gets through the floor, and these vibrations will still be more audible.
i just came here again to watch boone with the dang tennis balls LOL
LOL
It isn't the sound from the drums so much as the vibration from the drums, going through the frame. I had this happen to me once. The downstairs neighbor later told me, "it wasn't so much loud, but I could feel the vibrations coming through the ceiling."
