Bingo! You just gave me the missing puzzle piece for my sisters, nieces, etc. W e are very sensitive to insulin. That is why, within 1 or 2 days of eliminating carbs (keto diet) we find ourselves in DEEP ketosis. This might be the missing factor in our fat fight.

That's intetesting because that happens to me too, but I get sick, even with electrolytes and eating clean. Do you actually lose weight or fat?
I get into ketosis quick...like 1 or 2 days of cutting carbs, 24 hours if I drink acv or fast, and keto strips are DARK, but I dont ever lose much weight or fat in ketosis. It's hard on my kidneys and I cant go longer than 3 weeks because of blood pressure spikes even while upping potassium & electros. I might lose 1lb a week even while intermittent faating & minding calories, IF I'm lucky after I drop about 4-5lbs of fluid then nothing else.

People stare. They think that it's just a lazy person's fat, someone who doesn't care, and brings it upon themselves. Never complain, never explain. Normies...unless they're interested in the subject...wouldn't understand.

So Lipedema is maybe a dysfunction of the insulin production/fat storage system? Too insulin sensitive?

I've read and seen videos that lead me to believe lipedema may be due to estrogen dominance as well. Estrogen encourages the body to grow and store fat. Estrogen also feeds cancer, and causes extreme periods as well. Typically people who have lipedema have either pcos or endometreosis, as well as have abnormal fat gain in the "typical" problematic areas for women like legs, hips, thighs, triceps, and breasts sometimes. You normally don't see men with it, unless they are morbidly obese in which those men typically have "man boobs" or breasts. So that says those men are also producing more estrogen than testosterone.
Also look up endomorph pear body type, as well as ovary body type. They have the same body structure as women with lipedrma and both body types are due to an over production of estrogen. Estrogen feeds cancer, and cancer produces high levels of estrogen..it's a viscious cycle. Insulin also feeds estrogen as well which is why women cramp worse when they eat sugar on their periods.
I have read that iodine may help as it causes the body to dump excess estrogen. BUT selenium must be taken with iodine to protect the thyroid. So increasing wild caught fish consumption, or sea vegetables (safest way) if people dont eat animal.
I seem to have all the signs of lipedema but cant get a diagnosis because doctors here havent even heard of it or they think I mispronounced "lymphedema" and ignore me. My legs are 24.5 inches around (sometimes swell to 25.5 inches), ankle is 14 inches, triceps 19 inches, breast grew from a c cup to an H cup for no reason as well as a 60lb weight gain in 4 months! Never pregnant! It's always been very hard for me to lose weight or fat. Doctors didnt believe how little I was eating until I was in a hospital for malnutrition at 350lbs and was being told to "eat more" to stay healthy. Even though I've been told consistently to "eat less to lose the weight, because calories in calories out."
But I notice when I eat salmon, sardines, kelp, and just recently started adding selenium and Lugols iodine on days I dont eat iodine in my diet. I have been dropping weight pretty consistently and havent changed a thing! Still eating well and just walking 45 mins a day. I haven't measured my legs since. But it hasnt been a consistrnt month yet since starting this new regimen. Been about 15 days and I'm down 10lbs from my start weight, but fluctuate about 2 to 3lbs if I eat past 5pm, dont mind my salt intake, or eat something that's not homemade.
UA-cam search Dr. Berg Ovary body type and watch those videos. Also search "endomorph pear body type," and "iodine estrogen dominance." Getting insulin under control helps some but my body HATES being in ketosis and once I drop the water weight, I dont really lose fat anymore. I went about 3 weeks in ketosis and lost only 1lb, stayed having high blood pressure and pulse spikes even though I kept drinking electrolytes and eating healthy. I cant do keto. But I have eliminated things that cause blood spikes like processed grains, flour, and processed sugars. I am mostly plant based now, and sometimes eat fish 2 or 3x a week and occasionally I eat diced chicken breast on a salad maybe once every other week.
Research first though before taking any supplements I might have mentioned. Just sharing what I learned. Hopefully my long comment posts and doesn't get filtered out lol. Best wishes ♡

Early lipedema the fat is very sensitive to insulin. Later insulin resistance may develop.
