    just celebrated my 5th keto-versary this month! lost 110 pounds over 2 years - slower than most and on purpose to really just make 1 change at a time and make it a habbit before changing something else. Then I maintained for almost 3 years, and 2 months ago I stopped dairy and almond flour and lost 15 more pounds! crazy! there are so many versions of keto and so many options and more recipes available than you will ever have time to try! my goal was to try 1 new recipe per week. keeps it interesting and adventurous! keto has given me freedom from 27 health issues! including type 2 diabetes and low thyroid! I'm never hungry and never have cravings because I actually give my body the nourishment it needs, all while out-eating the men in my house! haha! I just can't imagine ever going back to my old life! keto for life!❤🎉

      Same for me. I started in August with keto and only found out a month ago that I have lipedema.
      My doc fat shamed me a d told me to take diet pills. Which thankfully idid t take.
      I have been in the emergency services in hospital few times for my swollen legs, they didn't know what was wrong with me, but just wanted to give me Cortison.
      I refused.
      Today I ha e lost 3 sizes on the keto.
      My legs still swell but I have bought some compression leggins and massage my legs almost every night. Since I lost weight I can really feel the diseased fat that was hiding underneath 😢
      It's so sad.
      I am getting more compassionate with my body which is awesome and I'm even starting to exercise (trampoline) which give me happy hormones 😂

    Thank you Rebekah for sharing your experience and information. I was never medically diagnosed with lipedema but the more I learn about it, there is no doubt that I do have it. And I agree with you and now it makes more sense than ever why diets never worked for me until I stumbled upon the keto and carnivore diet. They are the only diets that i see my body react to, But unfortunately I don't see that the adipose clumps really go away and maybe the only way to intervene on them is surgically.

      there are compression leggings [ on amazon and elsewhere] that help as well. there are medical grade and also much more comfortable ‘normal’. compression leggings WITH POCKETS! and patterns. if you add those to everything you’re doing, they will help, tho’ ultimately yes, surgery is the only treatment that buys time by removing enough so that it’s a reset.

I then transitioned to no wheat, no potatoes, just brown rice, whole grains (rye, barley, buckwheat) and it was a LOT better (basically mediterranean diet). Due to the keto, I had developed a b12 deficiency anemia and am severely D vitamin deficient. At the moment, I'm eating normally, avoiding only processed foods and sugar, taking high doses of B12, vit D, zinc and magnesium and I can function so much better, no food sensitivities, BUT the weight is back. @Trilingualeks it sounds like you might benefit from working with a lipedema-informed nutritionist to get to the bottom of what is going on. Send me an email through SturdyWoman.com if you want help finding someone. The key seems to be finding and getting rid of everything that gives you inflammation. Keto works for some of us, but people also have success on versions of Paleo and the Rare Adipose Disorder (RAD) diet.

      View Dr Ken Berry: beef, butter & eggs. However, he states that franks, sausages, lunch meats, and hamburger are better than junk foods and work as well as high priced meats because you need the protein & fat without carbs😊

    Keto never worked for me. Actually not tried carnivore. Meat prices here in Canada are outrageous.

      Food prices seem to be outrageous everywhere @rosaliecahoo425! One of my favorite low-cost meats is bone-in skin-on chicken thighs. They give you a lot of bang for your money. I hear you though! One thing to keep in mind is you will find that the longer you do keto the smaller your appetite gets and the less food you end up buying in general. Good luck! ♥

    Those food sensitivity tests are not accurate! They can react to foods you’ve most recently eaten.
    It is better to just do an elimination diet for a month or 2 and then add only one food back for a week or two and see how you react.

    • @sturdywoman
      @sturdywoman  3 місяці тому +1

      @samanthakitch4736 you are 100% right that recommendations should be paired with an elimination diet. However, the tests can provide a nice starting point for people who are unsure where to start exploring possible sensitivities. They are also a nice option for those who are uninsured, have limited access to health care, or don't have a supportive provider.

    Have you heard there’s more success with keto than carnivore? I’ve been on carnivore for 2 months, and some success, but not weight loss yet. Suggestions?

    • @sturdywoman
      @sturdywoman  3 місяці тому +1

      @joelsvision not necessarily! Everybody's body is different and you may have to experiment to figure out what your likes and how you feel best. Expect your body to go through a healing stage that can take a few months. Importantly, remember that the scale lies. I didn't weigh myself for months when I first started but I DID take pictures and measure myself. You can see how that went in my before and after video here: ua-cam.com/video/MwK_aUNbG-Y/v-deo.html Keep up the good work!

      @connieyoung9740 here is my video about fasting ua-cam.com/video/5FJynEQd8Xg/v-deo.html and my fasting playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLGrmXtIzhSGK55AI3LAV---shjqSfkuus.html I fast on and off when it works with my life, when I want to deepen my keto, or when my body tells me it wants to. There are a lot of different protocols to try, so find one that works for you. I like alternate day fasting because I don't like looking at the clock, but I've also recently done a few 3-day fasts which gave good results. I certainly don't do it all the time and take breaks, particularly during stressful periods. Make sure you spend a good amount of time getting fat adapted through keto before giving it a try.

      @connieyoung9740 I do some sort of movement everyday, whether it is running, walking, or strength training. For me, exercise is not about weight loss but rather stress relief and lymph flow. I understand that you can lose a lot of weight doing keto, but it's concerning that the diet has been ranked worst for heart health. Keto diets more than double the risk of serious heart problems. Fiber, which keto is lacking, is important for so many things, including the gut microbiome. I know people who do keto say they feel great, etc. but not much is known about its long-term effects. From everything I've read, it's not meant to be a long-term diet. There are safer ways to lose weight than keto.❤️

      I was told that Keto should not be done long term when I was told that I had Lipedema.. If you have heart disease or any other heart conditions, than Keto is not advisable but everyone has to find out what works for them, one size does not fit all. Sending hugs to everyone in our community x

      Hi @jessica3636! You might want to check out a book called The Big Fat Surprise amzn.to/4bSgZgI Nina Teicholz does a great job breaking down the science, history, and politics behind our current diet recommendations. Speaking for my experience, I can say my lab results have never been better and I'm certain I am healthier than when I weighed 300+ pounds. Good luck finding what works best for you and your body 💕
