Wow! I have watched Julien Baumgartner use washikozo in the restoration of paintings. I will never think about this paper in the same way again. Thank you, Mr. Mizota, for all of your efforts.
@@andrewlyke3973 it's the paper he uses as part of his process to stabilize an extremely damaged painting where the paint is peeling from the canvas. You can see it near the beginning of his recent video Lifting the Veil if I'm remembering the title correctly.
exactly why washikozo is so highly-valued. the only other kinds of paper that can compare as far as strength:weight are hemp and linen, and neither are so translucent.
This is the best and most educational way to make paper. Paper made today has an industrial feel. If more younger people were to get involved in this, I would say, this paper that is made in a natural way will prove to be better!!
I can't imagine that he is unable to sell literally everything he makes. The care, consistency, and quality are simply beautiful. No craftsman like a Japanese Craftsman!
Mr. Mizota, I must say how enjoyable you were to watch doing your work. I was so sad when it was over. I could watch you do your work for hours. I became interested in washikozo paper from watching Julien Baumgartner's painting restoration channel. He will ONLY use washikozo because it's the best and some of these painting are worth millions of dollars. But, I am so drawn to you as a person, a good person and I would love to know if you have done any other videos that I could watch? Thanks again, Mr. Mizota, you are wonderful!!! Your friend, Beth 😇
This was the best video on the process of paper making I have ever seen. All others did not have enough information and left me wondering how many parts of the process are done. Thank you for creating this excellent video.
That is absolutely amazing to watch. It is a true shame when those with such knowledge leave the world without anyone else to take up the mantle. A true artisan craft and a treasure to have seen only a small part of.
Najlepsze pozdrowienia z Polski. [If there are miracles before our eyes, then your work is a miracle before our eyes! Best regards from Poland.]
Thank you Mr Mizota, for keeping this ancient craft alive. I hope you will be able to do this until 80 like you wish. And that you will find someone to take over and keep it going. Lots of respect to you, greetings from The Netherlands.
This is TRULY ARTISTRY AT IT'S FINEST. Amazing beyond words, centuries old culture still being used today, although slightly tweaked. BEAUTIFUL TO WATCH and SO RESPECTED!
While learning lithography in 1973 I was tasked with making my own paper. I wish I could have spent time with you to learn how to do it correctly! Mine was far too dense in comparison. I am impressed and truly enjoyed watching you! Thank you. Hontoni arigatou gozaimasu
I always find the process of making paper fascinating. I love how the final effect looks, I hope to get my hands on a paper like this one day (although I would probably be too scared of wasting it to use it)
Dear mr . Your's working to arrived papers it's super art , art from a to z . It's not easy to finishing this papers , and it's taked long and long time to arrived perfect . Good luck with best wishes . From my country Lebanon best regards .👏👏👏👏
Thank you for showing us this meticulous beautiful craft! You make it look easy, I'm sure it would be very difficult for me. It's important that your craft be valued and conserved! I worked in a company making paper. Huge machines and processes, but basically doing these exact same things. Fascinating. Writing from Seattle, Washington State, USA.
Mizota-sama, thank you for sharing the traditional art of making washi-kozo. The world of fine art restoration relies on this paper to preserve the history of all of us, and washi-kozo is a critical piece of that work. Your contribution is significant.
Mr. Mizota infuses every single sheet of gorgeous paper with all his heart and soul. He makes every step of the process beautiful, and it all adds to making the final product divine.
This process is incredibly intriguing. It seems like the video was cut too soon, what is the paper in its finished form and what is it primarily used for? It is a real shame so many traditional things are going away these days .
WOW! the effort that is used for just one piece is mind numbing, but the quality is superior to anything that a machine could do! It is my hope that you have a wonderful life with many blessings! Thank you for sharing your craft.❤
I am from kolkata, India , is watching this beautiful old Japanese technique of paper making and I am speechless. So beautiful amazing way and totally hand made, just unimaginable. Salute to my Japanese brother and request to continue it for 5 lakes years or crore I don't know generations after generation, or teach the Indian ( 140 crores population) the secret technology. Stay safe and fit. Bharat maya ki jai. Vandemataram. Jai hind. INDIA AND JAPAN FRIENDSHIP LIVE TRILLION YEARS.
Preserving handmade crafts of any type is honorable. I understand even those who make pottery no longer have heirs who desire to continue their own legacy. I trust you have personally prepared for such an outcome.
Beautiful paper, Mr Mizota....I would love to have some of it to paint on.....your paper would be so lovely to work with! Thank you, sir, for showing us your process for creating this marvelous paper! 😊🎉❤
My respectful greetings to Mr. Mizota, for his dedication and effort in preserving an ancient tradition. The times and technical advances seem to subdue those artisanal works, but they lead us to think and deeply respect the persistence of noble and distinctive activities of a people, its history and identity. I also salute the makers of this video, for witnessing this valuable activity. Greetings from Argentina!
It would be nice if this “originality” of the people did not translate the invaluable resources of nature into impractical, expensive and extremely unreliable crap, the only purpose of which is to please the vanity of old people. Paper for building houses is a tradition that is now simply a transfer of resources. Creating the appearance of such a coating from modern materials, but using heat saving technologies, is an order of magnitude more rational solution.
I can not imagine how wonderful it must be to use this paper for art and creativity. A great deal of knowledge, passion, skill and patience, amazing to watch
Thank you for sharing your skill with us, Mr. Mizota! The paper was so light and beautiful when done, it made me think you had reached up and captured a cloud to bring it to earth ☁☁☁☁☁☁........thank you, Sir!.........(me bowing low)🙇♀
Incredible skill involved in producing this paper. Very labour intensive also. I would have no hope of doing this day in, day out. Beautiful work. 👏👏🙏🙏🇦🇺
I'm Italian, I say that coffee is good at every hour. But seems that You start working when is still night.. But Yours is a very interesting job; I like this video very much as there's is always something new to learn. Thanks for doing it and "THUMB UP" to You.👍👏
Thank you all for your messages. I will do my best to keep the washi culture alive.

Wonderful. Thank you Mizota-san. Your hard work and dedication is inspiring.
Mizota-san, much respect. You are a true craftsman. Seeing your work reminds me of my visit to Japan. Fond memories
Wonderful work!
Wow! I have watched Julien Baumgartner use washikozo in the restoration of paintings. I will never think about this paper in the same way again. Thank you, Mr. Mizota, for all of your efforts.
I was thinking about his videos while watching this, I wasn't sure if it was the same kind of paper until they said it was mulberry.
Haha… the ONLY reason I watched this was because of Baumgartner!
Absolutely amazing craftsmanship!!
Never heard of it before watching Julian Baumgartner.
@@andrewlyke3973 it's the paper he uses as part of his process to stabilize an extremely damaged painting where the paint is peeling from the canvas. You can see it near the beginning of his recent video Lifting the Veil if I'm remembering the title correctly.
I wish him all the health and success he deserves. He wishes to keep making washi paper until he's 80 and I hope he can. Wonderful work.
My respect for your energy to keep this ancient handscraft alive👍Best wishes from Germany🌞
Wow, the final product was so fine it was translucent, yet it could be handled like that without tearing - amazing craftsmanship!
exactly why washikozo is so highly-valued. the only other kinds of paper that can compare as far as strength:weight are hemp and linen, and neither are so translucent.
