    My deepest condolences to that young man's family. Back in April 2002, I was coaching my daughter's softball game. To the West, an ugly dark blue cloud with constant lighting came towards us. We called the game and all scrambled home. I just made it in the garage and turned around to see this white wall of wind down the street destroying my neighbors garage. I ran in the house, picked up my dog like a fumble in a Super Bowl game and ran in the basement. It blew past they say at 55mph. Did $25,000 damage to my house. If I had been a minute or two later, the neighbors Gazebo which blew into my garage doors probably would have killed me.

      They’re downplaying the severity of this storm, I believe wholeheartedly it was an EF-4 tornado, an EF-3 would leave the structure while dilapidated still standing. You’re correct and I concur, wouldn’t be surprised if in other areas it categorically registered as a very high end EF-4 if not the beginning of an EF-5. The dimensions and width of the funnel that were captured on television broadcasts showed how menacing it was too. It was not just an EF-3..

    People don't realize how a tornado causes that type of damage. It's literally intense air pressure that is rapidly expanding and shrinking, so yes, that's why you'll see this house that looks like it literally exploded. It did. I've seen damage from tornados... a tree that was vertically through the walls of the 2nd story, from side to side, and you look at it, wondering how it happened without the house being damaged except for the tree going through it. The tornado expanded the wood of the house so that the tree literally went between the molecules of the house.

      Please if you don't mind explaining...if this young man's house had a basement (not sure if it did) would the outcome been different?

    • @LouisianaAstroRambler
      @LouisianaAstroRambler 2 роки тому

      @@captainjack5668
      No basements in NOLA, the city is literally sitting on marsh lands, so flooding would be a constant problem. But yes, if he did have a basement, that most likely would've saved his life. Hell, If his house had been flush with the ground and anchored to a concrete slab, he would've most likely survived by sheltering within an interior room as well. The house would probably still be standing too. I mean, It would've definitely lost it's roof and probably an outer wall or two, but the majority of the structure, especially interior rooms, would most likely still be standing. But, it was sitting off of the ground, so the wind was literally able to get beneath the house, which caused the house to lift up just enough, maybe a foot or two, to be pushed off of the blocks it was sitting on. It's clear the structure was unable to take the force of being shoved to the ground, causing it to cave in on itself while being ripped apart by the winds at the same time. I'm sure this guy was either crushed by debris, or he was tossed around after being sucked out of the house.
      By the way, this is my personal assessment, I am not an expert, so I could be wrong about how the house was destroyed. I've just seen what tornados can do to mobile homes and houses that sit up off the ground. It's the last structure you would want to be in, there is literally no safe place in a structure like that. Evacuating to a better structure a few hours before the storms are predicted to hit, would be the best thing to do. Unfortunately, some people don't have that option. Anyway, I hope that answered your question.

      @@LouisianaAstroRambler yes thank you so much for your opinion...this is sad ...I'm wondering if he knew about the dangers of being in this type of structure ( or lack off) ..I watched another video (Arabi, LA) of a man who grabbed his small son and in his quick decision he went NOT into the bathroom but a small closet that had bearing walls..that saved his/sons life..
      Terrible what happened to this young man .
      Thanks again for explaining..

    Talk about a lack of empathy and gratitude on the part of the man who was speaking from across the street of the young man who lost his life. All that father could talk about was his experience and his son's situation, and he just did not seem to recognize that another family lost their own son and that the loss to his own son's home was miniscule by comparison. He is just one example of what is so wrong with so many southern people today (not everyone in the south, but far too many). They just lack empathy for others, and can only think about themselves, even when the home next door is GONE and their neighbor DEAD. smh I mean, my god, that's just one self-absorbed, cold individual right there, walking into a home that is still there, habitable, and everyone in it is still alive.
    I feel sorry for anyone raised by that cold, self-absorbed man. He is one self-absorbed, son-of-a-bitch. He couldn't even FEIGN empathy for the parents whose son died. All he could do was minimize what occurred. Thank goodness the reporter on scene immediately stepped in and interjected, "...to say the least!" showing that he was entirely incapable of articulating the gravity of what occurred just across the street. smh
    Bless this reporter's (Leslie) heart, you could hear the heartbreak in her voice as she was speaking to the anchors in the studio. I hope that she will have her trauma treated, so that she doesn't develop PTSD months on down the road. People don't understand that witnessing natural tragedies like this can give witnesses secondary PTSD, as it's incredibly painful for people with a conscience and empathy for others to see so much human tragedy. Decent human beings just cannot see stuff like this and walk away unaffected.
    Both of these achors handled their colleague's heartbreak with compassion. Thank you to the producer, as well, for recognizing that she needed some time to process what she was seeing. We need compassionate reporting, yet we also need to make certain that we don't also psychologically harm a decent human being just to bring us the story. Please do make certain, WWLTV, that you get Leslie some EMDR treatments. We don't ever want to leave someone psychologically harmed, if we can at all avoid it.
    We sure as hell don't need more self-absorbed a-holes running around the world like that man she was speaking to initially. We need to keep as many Leslies as compassionate as they naturally are.

      Until you go through a tornado and crap all around you is torn all to heck and you know you cheated death and your mind is still spinning, save your judgment for how someone reacts. I can tell you from experience that the reporters want you to tell YOUR story and what YOU experienced and how YOU feel.
