  • A man gives an account of a tornado destroying his house.
A split-second decision may have saved a father and his young son’s lives as a tornado destroyed their house in Arabi, La. Tuesday night.
Jason Dickerson said he was in the den when he first heard the tornado.
“The wind and rain was blowing on the side of the house and it quit…I opened the side door and it quit and just went quiet," he said. "I knew that wasn’t a good sign.”

You're exactly right. 2004, head-on collision, car spun uncontrollably for what seemed like forever before coming to rest feet from a light pole. My words in that moment, just seconds after impact: "God, please, no. My kids." I had 4 babies at the time. (5 now. Oldest 25, youngest 15). God is mighty, loving, and merciful. He spared my life that day.

I had just reserved a spot for 7 days at a state park ...to camp out in a tent.. Yesterday was my first night.. but i was concerned about the bad weather all today.. and i already had the tent set up..but for some reason when i saw a tornado watch on my phone at 11am this morning for new Orleans...i decided to leave work early and hurry to break down the tent..by that time i figured it wasn't smart to try and work all day then wait late when the rain is coming down to try and break the tent back down...so when i arrived at the park.. it was only strong winds...and a park worker asked why i was leaving...i said because there's bad weather for tonight...and tornado watch for the area...but she said aww that's normal...it usually isn't that bad..and recommend that i stay despite that.... but i was steady packing and loading up..so when i arrived back in baton rouge and saw on my phone that a tornado touched down...i was so happy that i did what I did.. sometimes you have to go with your instincts..and trust God.. He'll lead you ..i hate tornadoes...and wasn't playing with that

@@sillyworm I really don't know why unbelievers feel the need to berate those who do believe. Maybe it's because you want to believe but you're angry with yourself that you don't and then you turn that anger on someone who had more faith than you. To answer your question, though, the Word of God explains that in this world we will have trouble. It's a sin filled world where bad things happen. Everyone has to go through bad crap and everyone will die at some point. God didn't even save His own Son from a tortuous death on the cross so to blame Him when people suffer in this world doesn't make any sense at all. Satan is responsible for the evil and bad that exists so if you need to blame someone, blame him, but just stop being rude to people who believe in the same God that you don't believe in. Believe me, our faith doesn't depend on what you believe and nothing you say will ever change our faith. It's pretty pointless to belittle others for their faith and all it really does is show your poor character to your fellow human beings. Maybe try scrolling past the comments you don't agree with instead of stopping to criticize for no good reason.

Ironically, we had a similar experience last summer. About 1:30 in the morning 1 of my 2 cats bugged me to go outside. So I got up to let her out. There was a light rain and I heard the siren go off, but didnt think anything of it because that’s how they call the volunteer fire department. All of a sudden it got dead quite. The lights started flickering and the power went out. I went to wake my husband and my other cat started screaming like something I never heard before….my cat knew somehow! Then it hit , trees crashing down and a door to the outside was bowing out and shaking. It didn’t hit me it was a tornado. We ran into the basement and waited for the crashing to be done. 2doors we’re blocked by trees and you couldn’t even walk outside there was so many downed trees. We have an 1 1/2 acre lot and had 25 trees down…like god just mowed down the trees. Some trees were twisted like cork screws. It ended up being a F1 tornado and I couldn’t imagine any higher. We thought our other cat was dead, but she showed up a few hours later…don’t know how she survived that unharmed. You never think it will happen to you.

EXTREMELY unsafe. Please, please remember - even though the 'power is off' - doesn't mean it is not dangerous. If someone were to hook a generator up incorrectly, it can backfeed the lines, the lines could still hold some power. Never trust a downed powerline - it can be a lethal mistake.
