Now I understand better why handmade stuff are so expensive.
I was just thinking the same thing. Yesterday I saw some expensive ceramics and ask myself: how hard can it be? Searched and found this. The answer: very.
@@comradedogo2441 how much is that in dollars?
@@Ivy-or3wi 30 turkish lira is 3.48 usd
Not only is it much harder to do than most people comprehend, but there’s the hours and hours of work that goes to make it even feasible to produce numbers of pieces as similar as possible. There’s the experience that makes the lips of cups comfortable to drink from, or spouts that are capable of pouring. There’s working with the glazes, which trust me, isn’t intuitive. Most glazes don’t look anything like their fired counterparts, look different depending on temperature, and can be radically different depending on a reducing or oxidising kiln burn. Then there’s paying for the power for the kiln. Be it gas, electric or even wood fired, the fuel has to be paid for. Glazes can be bought or compounded by the potter, but either way, it has to be paid for. Clay body has to come from somewhere. Even if the potter digs and purifies their own clay, it costs money to dig raw material, store it, purify it. Or you can buy it prepared, and accordingly more expensive. And finally ofc there’s actually making the pieces. A production potter brings that time down to a minimum, but it’s still an important expense, plus there’s the electrical power used to produce pieces, for light, heat and the wheel. Tbh very few handcrafters are paid what their work deserves, but settle for, hopefully, something that is livable.
Yes and him much skill, knowledge, studying, and equipment (which is expensive) it requires.
I can't believe I am watching this for free

Imagine someone sharing A-Z of their business in such a detail.
In conclusion: Pottery cannot be done by everybody. It is the talent and years and years of practice. And he knows he’s the best at it
Yup, this goes for a lot of creative, personalized works. It’s unique to its creator. Even ppl in the same field would end up w/ a different result since they’re working w/ their hands, their minds. Through that you can see traces of their experiences and viewpoints. It shows through their works. It’s really interesting how our personal creative process can make products that are uniquely us.
Hmmmmmm
And a kiln lol

Knowledge is not enough. This takes real practice.
It is as if i'm listening to an audiobook novel. Very comforting.
sameee
I discovered your channel after my first pottery class. Next week I’ll be signing up for an 8 week class and I plan on documenting my journey.
You’re an inspiration.
The filming and narration is done so beautifully and elegantly i didn’t notice 25minutes passes by 🧡
What I thought this was only like 10 minutes
It was so satisfing i just realised from your comment

I had to look at how long the video was after you mentioned it.
There's a local Japanese store that sells handmade teaware... Yeah, I'm definitely buying a full set after seeing how much goes into making this beautiful ART
Cn u please tl me about that Japanese store

I am not an artist and not even remotely a potter, and still I watched the whole 25 minutes of your video without skipping. Such a careful, meticulous process, narrated scientifically. Such great work! So amazed to learn how the humble cup is made.
You’re too kind. Thanks for watching!
It was 25 😳 i never noticed untill saw ur cmnt
Really relaxing, I feel like artisan cups add to the experience of whatever you're drinking
That's certainly true I think. All my favourite cups to drink from were made by my friends and potters I aspire to. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Very soothing and yet complex!
From now on, I’ll see my cups, plates differently, with much respect to the artists who made them
I doubt many are handmade though
most of them are mass machine made....hand made are expensive
I was so excited for him to open the kiln and find all the beauty inside. Thank you for this video. Enjoyed every minute of it ❤
Thanks so much for watching! 🙌🏻
I felt exactly the same. thanks for being there.

This video makes me want to buy from smaller businesses. You can almost feel how everything is made with love and a lot consideration. Every piece has his own unique touch to it and i love that. 🥰✨
Only few people think this way. I’m glad

This is one of the most captivating videos I have ever experienced. I didn't give a shit about pottery going into this, but I watched the entire video because of how great the narration was.
Thank you so much for taking the time to film such a lovely and thorough video. Each step in your process is so deliberate and your work is flawless.
You're too kind, thank you so much and I really appreciate you taking your time to watch it all!
I started doing pottery and someone in my class suggested Florian's videos, and said it's super helpful to learn as a beginner. It really is, thank you very much.
I swear watching this is so relaxing
A world of difference between handmade and factory-made. Hand-made has so much love in it. Factory-made is loveless.
The first is art.
The second plain mechanics.
This video is done in expert fashion.
Must be shown in pottery/ceramics class.
this is easily the most smoothest thing my ears have listened to in a long time! my gooooosh. just beautiful everything! everything is just beautiful!
Tom Scott brought me here and I'm REALLY pleased to se such master craftmaship explained in this way. Beautiful products and beautifl video!
You speak like art feels.
This is one of the reasons why I'm addicted to UA-cam!!! 👍
SO RELAXING 😌
Thank you, Florian! This is a breath of fresh air here on UA-cam. You've explained every step and the reason for it in more than adequate detail. I have a new appreciation for the pottery cups that I use daily. I will happily pay the price for a well-formed and processed cup. You're a Master Potter!
Thank you so much Frederick, you're really too kind. 🙌🏼
This has the same energy as “you’re a wizard, potter!” Heheheh it does look like magic tho!
*yo we appreciate you and everyone who does this... this isn't easy to do so thank you*
ceramics are an absolutely most beautiful creation of humanity.
i spent the last month volunteering at a studio ran by an older (& miserable) woman in hopes to learn more about this medium & how to use a kiln.
i left one week ago after weeks of being yelled at for calling student's pieces "beautiful", or not knowing how to do something i was never taught.
also, she never used this wax but it does miracles. wow.
i am now learning & unlearning everything from your videos.
thank you for sharing, i am at peace after watching this.
You tube is the best! For showing free education. Way to go UA-cam, I love you!
Going to be really studying your videos this semester. Ceramics has always been daunting to me, and now I have to take the class to meet the class requirements for my major. So far it has been astoundingly helpful in assisting me with understanding the overall process. I feel that with your videos as reference, I may just survive this. Thank you on behalf of all of us struggling students.
So pleased to hear that Gala, I hope my videos have some useful information in them somewhere! Best of luck with your potting and major and thanks for taking the time to watch.
How does UA-cam know I love hand made mugs and cups and bowls , hand made pottery is so beautiful is like they have individual character.
OMG, bless you! For making pots and cups ORIGINALLY. I Wish we will not let a 30.000 BC year old craftmanship go away. Love these video´s! Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
Lots of love from The Netherlands!💛
i could watch him make bowls, cups and plates for hours omg it is so calming
His words are so poetic. Such lovely work
Right ! I know 🤣😍
First time viewer here... I clicked on this video fully expecting to skip through and just get the gist, but oh my god. I was absolutely transfixed by everything about this.
It's magical how a person can make this out of dirt
As a person who is fascinated with ceramics and somebody who wants to start doing something with stoneware in near future I would have never imagined that I would find a video with so much practical knowledge packet in it. Thank You.
i’m in my last semester of senior year and i’m only now taking ceramics and really falling in love with clay! i love these videos, thank you for showing us your incredible process :)
Must be nice that your school has ceramics
The skill of pottery, business and video making at display. You sir, are an artist.
I don't know why UA-cam recommend this to me but it was very satisfying to watch. Very soothing voice too.
I've just recently started my pottery journey and trying so hard to learn. I watched your step by step video the whole time I was practicing last night. Pottery is NOT easy but your videos have helped me to keep going with it. I'm still so awful at throwing and have caught myself getting so frustrated at myself. Thank you for sharing your amazing tutorials, they truly have helped me so very much. I love your work!!
This again is so informative and generous. You are a fantastic teacher.
I love to watch these before i sleep. :3 your voice is so soothing.
Clever people make the best creatives.
Your voice is so calming and honestly,it reminds me of audiobooks
I have a school art project that involver pottery and watching your videos gives me so much inspiration these are easily the highest quality videos for pottery i have seen thank you so much because you just sparked a passion that may last a life time and i cant wait to start
Your tallent and perfection is unbelievable these 24 minutes are the worthful minutes I've ever spent on UA-cam
Now I know why they're so expensive.
I know a lot of people don't appreciate this kind of job they need to see this video just to know.
Why there are expensive.
Watching the amount of skill going into these coffee cups makes me appreciate my local potters' works even more. Usually as artists, we get questioned why our works are so expensive. However, I think it's important customers and clients understand why the cost is as it is- the amount of skill, the time spent refining those skills and producing these creations, etc going into a product/piece.
Exactly what I Subscribed for, absolutely love these videos, informative and relaxing. Keep up the amazing pottery work, or whatever else you may be working on, much love.
Can believe i paid 50$ just so i could come home and teach myself how to make mugs.
Love the video! Keep it hard
Artist, technician, businessman, educator…brilliant dude. Thnx for all this!
Thank you insomnia, for giving me time to watch this video at 3:00 am
Your videos are like poems. Thank you.
I’ve just watched this again after losing my pottery mojo 😢 I’m feeling inspired to keep trying so thank you 🙏
watching this i'm actually quite embarrassed, because i used to think u just put all the glazed pottery in the kiln, set the temperature to 1200°c and call it a day..... it's crazy impressive how much work there is behind professional handmade pottery. this video was amazing to watch and makes me appreciate work like this SO much more. you're doing such a great job!!
This is such a lovely video in so many ways. The time taken to show every step, your very soothing narrative, and your description of every step makes it as though I’m reading one of my favorite books.
Thank you for sharing. I’m only learning this process myself and this was the most thorough and helpful description I have received yet.
Another first rate experience. Thank you for your generous collaborative spirit!
I can't emphasise how surprised I am at the quality of your video! It's very rare to find decent quality videos on UA-cam!! You are amazing!
I love the sound when the kiln is opening. Like a magical twinkling.
5:33 I can think of an easy way to describe it 😏
thank you now i dont have to say it 🤣
I came here looking for this comment

We had the same thoughts ig XD

Such a beautiful and also painstaking process, really makes you appreciate pottery. Just beautiful. I would love to have a cup of tea out of one of those gorgeous cups.
I want to make mugs for Christmas for my kids and grandkids. Boy its going to be a big job. I would love to have my own potter's wheel, kiln and everything else. I will have to do it at a studio school. He has given me some good ideas.
Happy to see his store is almost completely sold out :)
Im a fan of the glazes‘ color. Also I learn so much in every video. Thank you! I personally have issues with throwing so I am grateful for your tips.
Your art and your work are both so relaxing
We've watched whole video with our 6 and 4 yo daughters on Sunday. Awesome. Thank you.
Wow, who knew making a pottery cup required so much skill and patience! Impressed by the dedication of the artist here. Definitely makes me appreciate handmade crafts even more now. 😊👌
What an interesting trade. Gotta be honest, I envy those whose living exhibits creativity and passion. But then again, I can only imagine the sacrifices and discipline put into such work.
Absolutely beautiful work! Love the colors of the cups!
To watch this was heaven. I had a tumor removed and don’t really have the strength to throw a pot. To watch this, was as if I were sitting in front of my own wheel. Thank you. 🦋💖 wonderful channel.
You are powerful and strong!
I hope you are doing okay!
I haven't been this completely enthralled and captivated in so long.
I love the whole process! This is actual work of art!
This has been one of the most relaxing videos I've seen in a long time. Your voice is soothing! And the repetition is not boring but rather comforting. Thank you for sharing your talent. ❤️
I loved watching the process. I’m holidaying in Muskoka Ontario in Canada, I visited many potters and bought these dark chocolate mugs and bowls. I gravitate toward hand made. They feel cared for and they mean something… like a connection. I spoke with the potter he was lovely and now I’ll think of John when I’m enjoying my coffee.
Unreal. Drinking tea out of a similar mug and had no idea it took so long. Fascinating.
Fascinating and very much appreciatively informative. Loved watching this.
Love to see your work and listen! Thanks!
after reviewing so many pottery crafts at Chinese e-markets, i can tell the real fine works from the mediocre ones. your pottery really catch my eyes with their beauty.
It’s really satisfying when he was pulling the clay down with his wet hands
Excellent everything :). Pottery, filming, narrating it’s all perfect 👌
Thanks so much!
Beautiful craftsmanship & soothing to watch. Your art is amazing. It shows how much you love what you do.
I never give likes to videos, but your video, it made my thumb to like your video, the process might be traditional, but your way of making and presentation is magical
Still can't believe this is not one of the most popular channels
One day maybe! I haven’t been posting for all that long on UA-cam yet.
Awesome video, truly makes feel like getting back into ceramics
I’d love to learn, love keeping my hands moving and seems therapeutic and relaxing
Thank you so much for this! This has been such an experience to watch, and the care that you put into making the pots and this video is really something to look up to!
Wow thank you I am a self taught potter have'nt done any for over 20 years now due to (life) getting in the way but I really enjoyed your videos thank you for getting me reinspired.
I will have to get potting again.
Absolutely FLAWLESS pieces of functional art. 👌
I really appreciate how thorough you are in describing the whole process from humble lump of clay to fired glazed mug.
Amazing video and amazing work. Watching your production is soothing and informative at the same time. Love it.
every precaution sounds like either an important life lesson or a famous quote.
I never -in my life- thought I'd be interested in pottery one day! Because of your great art, I joined a hand-building complementary course in the college I go to (unfortunately it's not as "hands-on" as I'd hoped for due to covid restrictions, however, I still played around with some clay at home and it was so much fun!) I see myself trying it out further -hopefully in better circumstances- in the future! Truly inspirational :D
That's so wonderful to hear, I imagine learning ceramics in person at the moment must be a real pain due to the restrictions, like you said, it's so hands on. Best of luck potting at home and I'm so glad to hear you've been enjoying it!
This is one of the best video I've ever watched on UA-cam ❤️🌸
Thank you for such an enjoyable video. To the point and poetically worded. I look forward to watching more.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for taking me on this journey! 😊
Love these long videos! Your efficiency is incredible.
Cheers Samuel - I think I need a break though, these long narrations take me hours!
Love the cups and the colour.😀
Wow, thank you very much for your honesty in passing on all the information related to pottery making to us, you are wonderful🌼
I just love how informative and detailed you are. You don't miss a beat!!!!
This is satisfying and amazing to watch. I’ve been wanting to learn how to make clay mugs/potteries for so long and this video would b rly helpful. Love tht you showed it all down to the small details unlike many tutorials.
Thank you - hearing that really means a lot. I’m so pleased you liked the video. 🙌🏻
I can't believe that I found this video today! You are my new idol ! Amazing video! So Relaxing, yet so Informative and ... Poetic at the same time ! 😂
I was deeply impressed. Thank you for sharing your work.
This was so fascinating to watch! So detailed from start to finish, all while being soothing, interesting and satisfying. The results are so beautiful, one of my favourite colours actually. I love that each pot is slightly different and have such distinct character. It made me appreciate the fantastic art of pottery 1000x more than i already did.
Definitely going to watch some more of your videos, after finishing some of my artworks now that i have newfound inspiration.
Thank you for sharing!
