Florian, I've made it this far. These 40min flew by in a blink of an eye. I am amazed of your work itself and your effort to show the whole process. Very well edited and narrated. Thank you a lot!
I've been dreaming of making a teapot for a while now, it's incredible to see the whole process and all the detailed work involved. Thanks for making this - I'm guessing filming and editing a 40 minute video takes almost as much effort as making the teapot!
As a tea enthusiast I am glad to see all the details that must be taken care of when making a teapot. A good teapot must feel natural, an extension of one’s hand and allow for clean pouring and easy maintenance. It’s that combination of little fits, chamfers, angles and bores that make or break a pot.
There are no words to describe your work, the amount of atttenttion to details, the perfect process you mastered, you are so good that you make everything seem easy ( and we all know thats not the case at all xD), greetings from Brazil, keep up the wonderful work
This was randomly recommended to me and I really definitely didn't think I'd watch 40 minutes about how teapots are made. But I did and loved every minute of it. It is a beautiful, relaxing, fascinating and informative video. Very well done and thank you for gifting us with this quality content ! 🙏🍀
Amazing craftsmanship. This showed up on my feed randomly and watched all off it. It's always awesome to see how much time, energy and passion people put into their work.
it’s beautiful to watch how meticulous you are with your work! incredible being able to examine your handiwork from beginning to end. i usually enjoy videos like these without any voiceovers but this time is an exception. this time hearing the artist’s voice explain what they are doing in a way that was calming, informative, and easily understood really enhanced the entire experience. i find myself desperately wanting a tea pot of my own!
Your work is stunningly gorgeous and your heart is not afraid of giving your experience to strangers. That's something money can never buy and you have my utmost gratitude and respect.
The number of steps is daunting yet also rather soothing, taking each so methodically and precisely in turn. I am a new potter and learning so much from watching you. Thank you for so generously sharing your process and expertise. 🙏🏼
Seeing the process of your ceramics increases their desirability sevenfold. Seeing you gradually hollow out just the right concave for the glaze to pool has solidified for me why I'll be purchasing one.
The meticulous attention to detail and flow of process is truly inspiring Florian. Incredible content to continue to learn from. My fiancé and I started taking classes in January 2020, and your videos are an education in themselves. Thank you for making such great content and pots!
watched it the whole way thru and didnt even realize 40 mins went by, this inspires me so much as someone who wants to work in ceramics more :D thank you for the lovely content and beautiful work
That's decided me. No teapot making for me. Your videos are brilliant. No music just a brilliantly articulate, detailed description of what is involved. Thanks so much for taking so much care.
This is the inspiration I needed to take the leap into learning ceramics. I really appreciate the time you've put into making these videos which is a huge help for many of us entering this intricate and rewarding craft. Thank you.
it’s absolutely crazy to see just how much goes into making these sorts of things. really gives you not only a new perspective of where small business items come from, but a massive boost in appreciation to the love and attention that goes into each piece. i knew it was hard work before but man…..just incredible. you’re a gem for sharing this with all of us, i can’t tell you how much i loved watching you work!
I have my first wheel-throwing class in 2 days. I can't wait to feel the clay with my hands and apply what I learned from you in my class. Thank you for creating these videos; it's beautiful to watch.
I made it all the way through -- which is nothing compared to the work you and other potters do. I really had no idea how much skill and effort and thought and care these beautiful items took. thank you!
This video was so beautiful. I used to take pottery classes when I was younger in a local studio shed with incredible artists working just in the next room over. I recognized so many of these steps and techniques but your mastery and craftsmanship made it so mesmerizing to watch, just like when I was a kid peeking into the artists’ open studio hours. It’s making me want to take classes again! Thank you for such a wonderful documentation of your process.
i started this video thinking i was just going to skip around a bit, but i ended up watching the whole thing your narration is very seamless, and this whole video was very informative and interesting to watch!
From beginning to the end, yes I did watch your video. So much careful detail technique. Thank you for showing me how passionate, how methodical you are to creating the most beautiful teapot! Wonderful, amazing!
I've just stumbled on this channel and it's a hidden gem. As a soapmaker myself, I can begin to understand practicing a craft that isn't well known and I'm beyond happy to see how well you've done and how you're managing to introduce so many to this ageless craft. Hopefully I can catch the next sale and get one of these beautiful teapots!
I'm lying on my sofa, sick, and totally enjoying it to fully immerse myself in your videos. there's a delicacy to your videos, as well as your pots. superb!
That was one of the best, most informative ceramics videos I've come across. Extremely well done. The shoot and narration were really excellent. Thanks for sharing it!
Wow. Thank you for making this video. I’ve enjoyed it immensely. I’ve started throwing and I’m already utterly addicted. Beautiful beautiful teapots. Absolutely stunning.
The first video I see from your channel. Delighted with these 40 minutes learning something I didn't really know, well explained, done, recorded, and narrated. Thanks for your effort and your crafts!
Such a beautiful process, that not only creates a lovely piece, but also gives a story and an identity to each one of them, as an architecture student, I would love if my study plan included workshops of hand crafts such as pottery, woodwork etc, i believe that it creates a relationship and a deeper understanding of materials and how to develop their own expression and their own voice, not just simply choosing from a catalog and using them. Thanks for sharing your work!
This takes me back to my ceramics classes. And your voice is so soothing and instruction really spot on, covering why things might happen and why it's done a certain way. :) A master craftsman
This is the first video of yours I watched and I stared at it with awe. My mouth slightly opened and I was quite overwhelmed by a calm feeling which is usually what I feel when I look at a craftsman work wheter it is forge or ceramic but it was the first time I witnessed the making of a piece from start to finish including glazing and firing. I found it beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for this.
Your teapots are gorgeous! The fact that you spent so many hours on each of them is incredible. It's a very long drawn out process, which you explained really clearly. You make really beautiful pottery. I only discovered your channel today because I was looking for videos concerning air dry clay projects, so the algorithm decided your video was the same, which it's not, but having said that, I am very glad your channel was suggested to me. I have subscribed today and intend to learn more of what you do. I love clay of all kinds and the different ways they can be used. Your videos look really interesting.
@@floriangadsby I copied your design for making teapots I am not going to sell it out of respect I'm going to keep it but I made a few of them and I'm going to keep all of them or give them to my family perhaps. The design lends itself very well for production work. Every time I walk by it and look I have to stop and look at it for a while. I'm having trouble finding a high iron content clay that doesn't turn almost black when firing if you have any suggestions I am open LOL. I have 10 or 12 bags of red art clay I just don't have any good recipe for cone 6 or above
So much intentionality in the process. I really enjoyed how you showed the function of the teapot. The end result is such a high combination of skills.
Loved it all the way through! I used to know a potter who I marvelled at how even he could keep the top and bottom of a glaze firing! Then I saw him reach and bend the last cone on the bottom with an iron rod! Sneaky, cheeky potter! We didn’t have the beauty of a kiln you have! What a beautiful video! Thanks!
I assumed it was an ASMR video but was surprised it had commentary and explanation. The showcase of year long skill and knowledge kept me watching the whole video. Thank you for this video! Greetings from Germany
This is the first video I saw from your channel. I intended to watch more of it. You have a great skill to make a beautiful masterpiece, no doubt. I also like how you are organized. Your wording and delivering the video is also captivating. In a way, the video is relaxing and helping me to enjoy my break in between my tedious job. Thank you for making a great video..
Currently in a wheel throwing class, I love seeing the culmination of the basics and fundamentals that we've been practicing in class being demonstrated here as well! a wonderfully condensed video of the whole process
The last 6 minutes of the video was an ugly realization of how much money I need to spend to have such a fine product! That Gas kiln is probably more expensive than a vehicle! I don't do pottery, but love watching your videos before I go to bed. A true craftsmanship with smooth delivery!
You don't have to start with a gas kiln! You can start making pottery with much cheaper, electric kilns, and use small amounts of commercial glazes that are brushed on, so you don't have to mix up big batches like I do. Thanks so much for watching!
When I was a kid I thought that spinning orange clay like this looked delicious. I guess I still do, lol. Excellent video. Watching the work that goes into something as small as this makes me want to use hand-made objects like this every day :)
Easily watched the whole video. I am starting again after 5 years of not throwing, so this was like a good college lecture that was full of information that you wanted to listen to. Great job my friend. Hello from San Diego, ✌🏼🦁
It's a grace to watch a master. Watched the whole video as if time was nothing. Thank you for your videos. I'm in the process of watching and re-watching all of them.
Your devotion to your craft is amazing to witness. I happen to be one of the people in the world who feel a great calmness inside myself, when I find a wonderful tea pot, with a beautiful pour and feel of the pot, as the tea fills the waiting cup. It is hard to put into words. There is a point in the tipping of the tea pot, when the tea just starts to pour over the lip of the spout. The pot is not to far tipped over, and not to little tipped over. A point where you feel you have full control of the location where the tea will pour at. Then, when you stop the pour, the tea has to rush back off the lip and back inside with no drips, (or maybe one). It seems like a petty thing to most people, I can not explain how or why this happens to me when I pour my cup of tea. It just does. Thanks for the time it has taken you to film, and edit, and upload, this journey of yours. A snippet of the time spent as a potter. Wonderfully done and presented Document to your craft. Cheers from Michigan USA.
I would love to do this I hope to start it soon. I would love to add my creativity to some of your pots. I love how simple they are but so much work and patience and luv go into them👌 Really helped my anxiety watching this. Thank you 🙏
I made it "this far" And I am very glad I did. I enjoy your voice, the quality of your work, the educational value, and all the other pleasant aspects of this video. Thank you.
your videos are always a treat and i love learning about how you make everything through your content. you always make something so pretty and perfectly replicate it every time, and it always starts of as something so blank and bare. thank you for your content :)
Thank you for the great explanation. When I learned to make teapots we were told to measure the tip of the spout with the top of the teapot in order to insure proper pouring. But yours are perfect, so it seems like you have that aspect down pat. Your teapots are beautiful.
Even though I can’t afford your tea pots... you’re not charging enough! So lovely, so very lovely... and yes I’ve watched it all the way through. (Didn’t get to hear the music of the pots when you opened the kiln 😔)
Thank you very much... and sadly no, not this time, I opened the kiln after a whole weekend this time, so it had another full 24 hours to cool down all the way to ambient room temperature, when that happens there's no pinging noises. The tinkling sound only really occurs when I open the kiln at 150ºc or so.
I've taken multiple pottery classes as part of my college degree and just a few of your videos taught me more than those classes ever did! This makes me want to give pottery another shot!
Beautiful work! True artisanship. The beauty shots at the very end do show them off, but seeing them in context on the boards somehow I find even more beautiful. You did give me a minor heart attack at 26:40, casually removing that entire shelf of pots :-O
Though I have never made a single pot, something about these videos is just so... beautiful, not just the pieces themselves, but everything else as well
Yep watched to the end, wrote down all the materials and tools etc I need to purchase and saved the video fir when I’m proficient enough to begin making my first teapot. Thank you my teacher!
i made a bird figure meanwhile watching this! Your calm approach in your videos really is perfect. I listened, and made my 1st clay model (Wich, it was like a sparrow with a long beak.) Keep on doing these man!
I’m editing a novel. Somehow watching this video made me so excited about being even more precise with my work. Such motivation. You’ve gained a new subscriber 👌🏾
That 40 minutes flew by in what seemed like 14. Just incredible work, thank you for the video. I now feel inspired to take as much care and consideration with everything I do today... from washing my hands to buttering the toast! ☺️
FASCINATING!!!! The whole process and your precision is really amazing. I have dabbled with pottery and found the process therapeutic and enjoyable. You have shown me how professional potters can achieve repeatable results. Thank you for the GREAT video!!!🤗
Brilliant… quite therapeutic to watch… thank you… I’m not a potter, however, I have done it years ago at art school, and I used to experiment throwing with porcelain very tricky, thank you, you’re an inspiration
I took 2 ceramics courses in college and know how much skill and experience it to make pieces that are this precise. I unfortunately am not cut out for ceramics work. The adhd doesn't like the waiting, the endless amount of small steps, and often the rough texture of the sand that feels like, well, sandpaper on the throwing wheel. As a result I never actually successfully threw anything because I was constantly overwhelmed by the hellish sensation and I couldn't concentrate on the type of pressure i was using. They always collapsed. It's so different from watching someone else make ceramics. This is a long winded way of saying I respect the hell out of you and your work is gorgeous. You deserve to be rewarded for your work as a fellow artist and craftsman. I hope to make enough money to buy something like this to support you and the community.
I appreciate your attention to detail which makes such an obvious difference in the end result. Mindfulness is not an easy skill to achieve but by your explanation of each step I see why it's important; I am helped to understand the necessity which moves me to apply it to my various hobbies. Thank you for your videos.
I am always amazed at how little regard is given to studio pottery it is truly an inspirational art yet very rarely appreciated. I am often able to pick up superb pieces of studio pottery in second hand shops or charity shops for very little money. Hopefully your video will help people appreciate this craft more.

It's pretty stunning how many concepts carry over between machining and pottery: lapping, using a turning wheel to create concentricity, and how similar trimming is to turning on a lathe. This is by far the most comprehensive, valuable, and enjoyable pot-making video I’ve ever seen. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Beautiful explanation and a great video. I admire your work and respect your work ethic. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge every week 😊
Thanks Ranjit, that means a lot, especially all the kind comments every week!
@@floriangadsby You are my teacher 😇
Unbelievable and meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful and perfectly descriptive commentary. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Thank you.
Appreciate the generosity in sharing your knowledge and expertise. ::)
This video, and the teapots featured, are masterpieces. Incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. Thanks so much for sharing!!
this was by far the most relaxing video i've ever watched. thank you, your art is impeccable. please make more!!
It is odd... this video was realesed on my 59 year of life...and I am a tea lover... so thank you... was very nice to see!!!
Thank you! I think I’d be a pretty good waiter with all the experience I have moving precarious boards of wobbly pots.
Though I have never made a single pot, something about these videos is just so... beautiful, not just the pieces themselves, but everything else as well
…absolutely love and look forward to your videos 🥰🥰🥰
So pleased to hear so - thanks for taking the time to watch! Especially with this weeks upload...
P.S. I made to the very end!
beautiful video, i couldnt NOT watch it all the way through. The magic that is the before and after, from beginning to end. Stunning work.
I don't know why but every time he picks up that wooden planche with that much clay work my anxiety goes through the ROOF
Yep watched to the end, wrote down all the materials and tools etc I need to purchase and saved the video fir when I’m proficient enough to begin making my first teapot. Thank you my teacher!
This is my first time watching a clay craft tutorial. I don't know why this was recommended to me, but you have a soothing voice and nice handiwork.
i made a bird figure meanwhile watching this! Your calm approach in your videos really is perfect. I listened, and made my 1st clay model (Wich, it was like a sparrow with a long beak.) Keep on doing these man!
I watch this whole thing during my free period at school, what a pleasant way to pass the time :)
Understanding the details of the process builds an appreciation for the price of such workmanship.
Meticulously included every lil details.
You’re a legend with a beautiful work.
FASCINATING!!!! The whole process and your precision is really amazing. I have dabbled with pottery and found the process therapeutic and enjoyable. You have shown me how professional potters can achieve repeatable results. Thank you for the GREAT video!!!🤗
Florian always goes the extra mile. Impressive craftsmanship
Really beautiful artwork that can be cherished over many generations! You have a true gift. ❤ watching until the end was wonderful
Brilliant… quite therapeutic to watch… thank you… I’m not a potter, however, I have done it years ago at art school, and I used to experiment throwing with porcelain very tricky, thank you, you’re an inspiration
Your entire channel is just pure gold... You explain so well, this is easily the best pottery channel in youtube, congratulations.
Of COURSE I watched until the end… beautiful work, and I hadn’t the idea so many tedious steps are required.
I am always amazed at how little regard is given to studio pottery it is truly an inspirational art yet very rarely appreciated. I am often able to pick up superb pieces of studio pottery in second hand shops or charity shops for very little money. Hopefully your video will help people appreciate this craft more.
